Tonight I called Audible to cancel my monthly subscription. I'm too busy to read one book a month, so I've got 7 credits sitting there still to be used. My experience up until this phone call had been fine.
However, upon calling a member of their customer service team I was informed that if I cancel my subscription - I'll lose my 7 credits! What the actual $#*!. I've already paid for those 7 credits. It's that bad it's almost funny.
Audible is basically a scam beware! On my Amazon account I have several cards, Audible charged my 70 yr old friends credit card, every month since January 2022 through June when she happened to be looking over the charges. I have never even purchased a book but they charged her every month. If it had been on my credit card I would have notice and canceled much faster. Be very weary of this company very dirty. I did reimburse my friend 80.00 and canceled the so called membership I had never used but paid for. Very dirty practice on their side and reading all the comments I see I am by far NOT the first person to have an issue.
It would be nice if it were possible to have a few options with respect to those reading aloud. Some are truly horrible. Flat and boring, adding absolutely nothing to some of the top rated books. Additionally, if we're paying their monthly fee, throwing in some sound effects would not be a bad place to start. I honestly get more out of my free podcasts than I do out of this subscription. One can dream, I suppose.
I drive so much and listening to books is the best way to get through those long hours. Audible is exactly what you want as a customer. Customer reviews along with critic reviews. Free downloadable App with great options like adjusting narrator speed.
Awesome pricing plan. I pay $7.49, and each month I earn a credit to use on any book I want. I'm basically getting $30 books for $7 and change.
Amazon appears to devote zero time to this website. I don't know why they bothered to buy Audible.com and then ignore it. I have sent in suggestions to improves the site, after using it for five years and listening to 50 or so books. All I got was a canned response with no follow up. They tell you about listener reviews including how many and listener ratings. However, if try to read more than the first three or four reviews they show, forget it. It is impossible to find them. I recently went to the listener page and clicked on tell me what I might like and got a message that the site did not know me well enough yet to make recommendations. 50 or so books is not enough? I am going to search for another site that actually cares about their product.
Audible is such a scam, I'm honestly shocked. They make it so that you buy "credits" that get you the book but you're not buying the actual book. Your monthly subscription of $15 goes toward 1 credit, or 1 book.
Once you start a membership you can only "pause it" for a few months. If you cancel it you lose everything you paid for, you can no longer access anything in your library. It's all gone. Audible is just one giant sinkhole for your money. Save yourself and go buy a real book or download an MP3 that you can keep forever.
Amazon has the market on audio books and uses extremely difficult processes for the user to change, understand, or cancel trials. The user interface sends users on a stressful journey of leads. This is very purposefully deceptive and yet, the Amazon of a company gets by with it. Cancelling Amazon account.
I will also add that this site, Sitejabber, does something similarly deceptive in that after a review is written, they then want you to form an account. Nothing upfront to let you know this.
Audible places arbitrary credit storage limits! They keep charging you, no problem with that, but they throw away the credits you paid for because it's over the limit! I've been stockpiling credits so they'll be available as an accompaniment to the written text to help my slow-reader at school. It is outrageous that after 12 credits are reached, they will throw them away on you. If you call to complain they will put the credits back on, so buyer be aware. In addition, it's annoying that you cannot sort search results based on price, etc as you can on other sites. You are also unable to edit a review. Ever. The actual product and number of titles are the only thing good about this company. Shame on you Audible!
The selection of books is pretty good. It is not an entire library though. It downloads on amazon kindle very fast. On any other device it is more than slow. If you do not own a kindle forget it. Over 3 hours to download a book on all my devices except kindle. They will not answer problems when brought to their attention. I was a customer for over 3 years before laid off and forced to quit subscription.
I'm a canadian so without my knowledge there is also a US account with the same email?. If you cancel one the other will still be there and continue to charge? At least I check my credit card statements and they refunded.
Cannot permanently cancel subscription unless on a desktop, yet they offer the option to pause the subscription for 3 months on the mobile app and website.
What an absolute joke, scam, and I will not be giving any more of my own money towards this joke.
I have been purchasing audio books from Audible for a number of years now and find their selection great and their customer service outstanding. Whenever I've written to them about something, and yes, they actually have an email contact us, which is getting harder and harder to find on sites, they have replied to me by the next business day. And now, they're even better because, if you don't like a book you've purchased from them, you can actually return it and they will allow you to exchange it for another book. This is a great site.
So many bugs.
The desktop app doesn't work at all in that it won't play back any of the content that I have paid for.
The desktop app tec support doesn't work either and just gives cryptic error messages when I try to lodge a complaint.
I received a "Gift" with a code from a friend. The code did not work. I then had to spent over an hour with a hopeless customer service guy named "Will" and he kept sending me to all these pages, none which would work...
At the end of it, one hour of "bug fixing" for them, he wanted to have a phone conversation too! I just had to hang up in sheer frustration. It doesn't get worse than this.
You should never use the word FREE. Free means getting something without giving something in return. Why do you want my bank information if it's free. There's the first flag.
If your company is legitimate, have a site that lets anyone read free for 30 days and another site if that person(s) wants to continue reading for a fee. Anything different from this format is (99%) dishonest.
As a compulsive reader I am blown away, it could just be me but the only nock I have is when say the second or third book in a trilogy becomes available they don'y tell you and since I have over 300 books it is hard to keep track.
I have wireless ear buds so I can listen to books all day at work
I was sceptical about this site at first as it's ads are everywhere. And I never knew that listening would be as good as reading. Well maybe it is not as good, still prefer a real life book to read but I love listening to audio in the car. Even started listening on my treadmill.
Definitely would recommend staying far clear of utilizing this company's services. Discovered close to $400 of unauthorized charges on my credit card (entered manually) by Audible for services which were neither ordered nor utilized. After repeated, in-depth conversations with their customer service reps, I was unfortunately not able to get the full amount charged credited back to my credit card account. I am now having to utilize the disputed charges process directly with my credit card company.
For what it's worth, the customer service reps are friendly, but unfortunately unable or unwilling to process full credit card refunds
I would give them 0 stars, if I could. After paying £7.99 per month, for 70 months (£560), I still only have 6 credits (6 months worth)! And I only listened to a few books, in total. All of which I will also end up losing. Absolutely criminal!
I enrolled with the annual plan which gives me 12 credits a year. It turns out this is more than what I can read in a year. However the plan keeps billing me year over year. Even worse, only 6 credits can be rolled over each year. I was planning to use up my existing credits and continue when I need more. But all their options were bad:
1. Keep the membership as is, they will charge me again on the next billing cycle and make the situation worse
2. Cancel it, they will take away all the credits immediately (18 credits in my case)
3. Accept a downgraded plan of $10, you will take away 6 credits every six months
What a crazy strategy! I think broader audience need to be aware of these issues because it was not obvious in the signing up process.
