I have been a member of Ancestry for 1 year. I will update it from time to time. I payed by pay pal and decided this month to pay by my secondary payment feature which is my credit card. Two days later I got an email that said my payment info needed updated. I called Ancestry, got my credit card put in as desinated payment. The person now tells me that my payment is now 24 plus tax instead of 19 plus tax. I said no way! Then they say they will let it stay at 19 but next month it will go up to 24 plus tax making it around 26.00. If I would have not changed my payment plan, it would have stayed at 19, I just know it would have, and told them so. This is not right, and I will discontinue using Ancestry after this month.
I purchased for $194 a gift membership for my wife that is all access for a year including access to Fold3 and Newspapers.com. I was led to believe that this was, in fact, all access. It is not all access and the only information available to her is information that she provided or already had in her tree when she previously had a subscription. She hit a paywall when trying to access anything new and when the gift was purchased they said nothing about certain content being excluded from the ALL ACCESS. Because it is a gift membership, that was activated, they are refusing to refund even a portion of the money. I told them that as she will not be using it at all the account was useless since it was not as was represented. Since she HAD logged in three times for a total of 45 minutes (where everything new she wanted to see needed an additional subscription) I would accept them lowering the gift to a single month. Abysmal customer service.
I know my family history and can yet my DNA results could be for someone else it is so different. First agent said that I must be adopted! I believe the DNA results are simply a compilation of other family members that have Ancestry accounts and requested DNA. No other logical reason since I was not adopted
I ordered a kit back on November 8th that I have not received yet. After 10 days I called and let you know that it was not received, I was told that another one would be shipped. Now the second one is lost in the system also.
I was on the phone for over a hour and then the rep came back and said she would be back and hung up on me. These kits still are in limbo and it looks like I am out the funds that I paid
I was pretty active in my DNA search, read and responded to the community (since Ancestry offered NO FREE help) and this is a year out of my life I won't get back!
For a site that advertises high percentage connections, I am no closer to learning about my lineage than I was a year ago. I believe they are a business first and foremost, and their "help" is only for wealthy people with lots of time and money to buy Ancestry's lies and deceit. Shame on the Mormon church and their misrepresentations.
I expected Ancestry to automatically fill my tree when my DNA results came, NOPE! All persons I share DNA with their tree is either locked or they don't have one. 23andMe provides broad DNA results and fills your tree as well as provide a list of all your relatives where you can compare your results with them. Navigating through Ancestry is frustrating, it's not worth it.
I used their free trial for a few weeks and found the site confusing with nothing of intrest regarding my family. I could not find any place their web site to cancel so I called and canceled. They assured me my credit card would not be charged. It turns out that they never canceled my account and have been charging me for the past 10 months. When I called they agreed to refund only 3 months. I'm contacting my credit card to see if they can get back my unauthorized charges. I'll call the BBB as well. I can't believe all the negative reviews!
A few Years ago I was able to use Ancestry.com to help me research my deceased mother and father's dates of birth and even their parents for a security clearance. Now, the only thing it will allow me to do is find out who my mother was married to. That's it. I had lost that information and needed it again for a passport. No luck, it will only give up spousal information and nothing else. Not only that, the site is annoying with it's constant pop-ups. The one and only pop-up points you to a useless search that will give you spousal information. You can't search for birth or death certificates. It's a waste of money and I canceled on the first day of my free trial.
BEWARE. They lie I signed up for a free trial. They said I didn't I canceled 3 days later and they still charged me $19.99. I could not view a document because I have windowsxp and can't afford a new computer at this time. The rep Bill was rude. I live on Soc. Sec. And my budge is very tight. I was trying to get to my late husbands DD214 form so I could send it to the VA. I believe I'm entitles to some benefits but can't do anything until I get the form.
Received a kit from my grand daughter for Christmas 2023. Took the test, registered it and sent it in. Waiting and waited and waited. Went on the site and logged in and nothing. Went to my grand daughters site where she purchased it for me and nothing. She got an email end of February 2023 saying to enter the code for resulte. There is no code except on the vile that was sent in. NO WHERE on the package states the code must be kept ONLY to activate it on their website which we did. This company is a joke. No way to contact them either.
I have done my research on my dad's side and I know the his father's side is part German, why was there no trace of that on my test? It's like it's all my mother's traits but I was doing research on my dad's side and came across some Jewish names which the test picked up a trace of that but not the German?
I cancelled my monthly NON-SUBSCRIPTION in February 2021 only to discover they were still taking it out in April 2021. The website and customer service have been painstakingly researched and refined to NEVER allow a customer out of the payments. I re-cancelled (which is like a maze of pages on purpose to foul you up-are you sure you want to cancel? Are you positive? Really... click, click, click) anyway on 4/29 and logged back in only to find it still set to monthly "pay as you go". I called the customer service and was told "Ohhhhhhh we can't cancel unless your husband calls too." Then I said I wanted my credit card info removed and was told "No ma'am we need your husband to call also". I had to call my bank and cancel my card and do a charge back for unauthorized charges. If it is worth all that headache to you good luck and God Bless.
I have subscribed to Ancestry.com a number of times. The new format is terrible! Why do they keep changing it... always for the worse. At this point, I am looking for other avenues to pursue. I much prefer the old layout... much easier to work with for one thing. It is very difficult to see additional members, notes, etc.
Ancestry you really need to revert back to what you had and fire the people that came up with this new layout.
I am cancelling my subscription and encouraging others to do the same. Until this is changed, I refuse to submit any more information for your use.
I AM ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO CANCEL THEIR MEMBERSHIPS AS WELL.
This site has been up and down more times than a yo-yo at a tournament these past couple of months - ever since the roll-out of FTM2014. Several weeks ago, my tree was mangled during an FTM2012 sync. I just got it fixed. Two days ago my tree got mangled AGAIN during a sync operation. I'm wasting my subscription time repairing a mangled tree over and over again instead of getting research done. A complete waste of money and time.
The service is good, but the cancellation process is complex. It doesn't work with Google chrome. I had to get out an old Windows computer and use Internet Explorer to cancel. The telephone cancellation process doesn't work if you use Paypal. And the wait time for a customer service rep is very long.
And you have to navigate about 5 pages to even get to thre right cancellation option, and the pages obfuscate the options necessary to actually cancel.
I purchased a DNA test for my son as my other son and myself had done this and we wanted to see how it compared. I purchased it as a surprise birthday gift, but upon receipt, he wasn't comfortable. He called to return, was told I was the purchaser and would have to call, which I did. I was told he would have to call, which he did for the second time and again, was told, I'd have to call, I spent over half hour on the phone with someone who kept giving me different advice! She also stated that there was a charge for shipping, handling and $25 to be deducted from the refund. Shipping I can see, but 25 for a box and tube? So out of the $69 I paid, would be getting less than 30 back! And I was also told I could not give to another person to use, as was in his name. So, BUYER BEWARE!
Three days ago I shut my computer down for the night and the next morning when I started family tree maker it would not sync with my online tree. Finally 3 days later i got it straightened out but losing some of the links to 50 records (I do not know which ones.)
I have been using FTM and the online tree for months with no syncing problems. I do not believe it was my mac that caused the problem but some hick up in ancestry's database - has it become to large and cumbersome to be useful and looking at reviews and FAQ's I am not the only one with this issue!
They said I canceled too early, wtw, took money from my account and they refuse to put it back, not good. They that hard up for subscriptions they put stipulations amongst all those small words and they think it's ok, well its not. So i wouldn't advise any one to try the free trials, that's where they start billing. I am not writing anything false, i had it happen to me, and i was not HAPPY!
My sample was received on January 19th and I still haven't received my results. I've been waiting for almost 10 weeks now. My portal stopped showing an estimated date 7 days ago. I've contacted 3 support people — Ian, Mary, and Reigna — and none of them could tell me an estimated date of when my results will be ready. They said my results were already extracted and analyzed, but couldn't give me an estimated time. I asked them to reach out to someone who could and they said they can't do that. Very un-impressed. I've complained to my co-workers and they all said that 23 and me got back to them during the pandemic within 5 weeks. I'm wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. I'm so frustrated that no one can help me.
Ancestry.com used to be wonderful but the pages are now so cluttered and unchangable, I am ready to cancel. With advanced technology, a user should be able to turn on functions that the user wants and turn off everything else. For example, I don't don't use Connections and have to keep deleting them. I don't use Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and have to use external software to block. Now they have added Story View. If they add anything else to the screens, I would be able to see my ancestor any more! Get a software package and use other online sources. Thenmaybe you can read your own reseach results.
Answer: I agree... so many current complaints yet they seem to be more concerned with signing up new, younger members who are more deeply engaged in technology. It is business to these folks and they have to get younger people joining to make more money long term. Baby boomers though are their natural market and as more boomers retire and have more time and discretionary income they will be the ones who will be likely to join over the next few years.
Answer: Hi Joan, I see Karen above has answered your question regarding the old site. Full that box in Joan, tell them why you are leaving, give it to them straight. Write what you have put above, and more if so inclined. I have told them exactly what I think of their new so called experience! I think they have got a nerve inflicting this on us without even asking. They have made so many errors on the profiles, I know I shall have to check through every person on my tree, the mistakes they have put on are unbelievable, maps have been added that have nothing to do with the person. But the whole new set up is not enjoyable to use at all, the background colour is very hard on the eyes. I hate this new site with a passion! They should give us the choice of the format. From feedback I have seen, most of their long term customers much prefer the old site, Ancestry don't seem to realise what a great unique format they had, it was really classy, I loved working on it for hours and hours. They should listen to their customers, because they are going to be leaving their site in droves when the old ancestry is not available anymore. I shall use the old site as long as possible, then look for somewhere else to do my researching
Answer: Go to the right side of the page up at top where you sign in, and in the pull down menu there will be a place to go back to the old, classic ancestry, you know however, soon they are pulling the plug
Ancestry has a rating of 1.6 stars from 635 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Ancestry most frequently mention customer service, free trial and credit card. Ancestry ranks 13th among Genealogy sites.
