There is a very good reason why Alibris does not publish a contact phone number or mailing address. They want to hide behind a "customer service" email address where the only response they give to any complaints is to either ignore the problem or deflect it by giving a stupid answer. Whatever you do don't send them any money. They frequently overcharge for shipping and then refuse any refunds. I recently ordered through them and they charged $50 for shipping but it only cost them $10. When I asked for a refund I just got a series of stupid emails pretending to not understand what I was talking about. This company is dishonest and will steal your money. DO NOT USE ALIBRIS.
Never use Alibris to buy anything. They will rip you off. There is a very good reason why the only way to contact them is by email. They don't want your phone calls or letters from lawyers requesting refunds because they never pay them. They charged me $50 shipping for items that cost less than $10 to ship. When I contacted their "customer service" they just played a game of not understanding what I wanted. They either employ very stupid staff or they work under instructions to never engage in a discussion about refunds and certainly never give them. These people are unethical, dishonest and will steal your money. Do not use them.
Sitejabber doesn't seem to allow me to reply to the nonsense posted by Alibris so I'll add here a few facts:
- Alibris does not allow you to change an order once it is placed. However they can change your order. In my case they cancelled one item but did not give me any option to cancel the rest of my order. As a result they then charged me the full rate for two very small items (equivalent to 9 sheets of paper). So if you are happy to be locked in to an order that you can't cancel but they can change then go ahead and use them. Or maybe you should look elsewhere.
- Alibris is independently described as "a large shopping portal that has been in business for over 15 years". In that kind of business customer service is a major part of what you do, however Alibris state that they don't want to spend anything at all on a phone service so they just don't have one. Instead they only have an email system where the operators cut and paste answers that simply avoid the hard questions. If you are happy to risk placing an order with a company that refuses to spend money on customer service then go right ahead and risk your money by placing an order.
- Alibris claim that they have sent me a refund. The fact is they have not. NOTHING received here. Nothing at all.
If you really want to order anything that Alibris offers then I recommend using ABE.com or Biblio.com. They are not perfect but they have customer service and they operate with some honesty and integrity - unlike Alibris.
Alibris is great. I love that they have just about any book I'm looking for, and it supports small book sellers.
