My entire Intermediate Algebra class was comprised of this pointless program. The deadlines are borderline impossible to reach. 30-60 different types of problems should not have 2 week deadlines, especially when a student has other classes and life situations going on. Personally, I'm really bad at math, and this program only beats down my belief. My professor simply sat around on her phone and did nothing all day. The worst part is that schools sneak in this program in the lecture category. I walked in expecting a teacher to explain these concepts to me, but instead I got a $#*!ty, time-consuming program that may very well cause me to have to retake this class. Thanks a lot $#*!.
Whoever design this website is the most vile odious disgusting puppy kicking $#*!er in all of history if people see this review know that i only made an account to express my absolute hatred for Aleks if i could give a zero i would
A short review that attempts to stray away from the mindless stress-indulged rambling I have seen on many other peer-reviews.
This is going to be a short, technical overview of the site in as little words as I can manage.
UI isn't great, stutter issues and freeze-framing prevent certain user registries from getting put-in whatever class database your account is connected to.
Layout is complicated and messy, notifications go away after about ten minutes - along with this, tests and other "my path" assignments are jumbled, with no chonological order for which they have been put on the site itself.
Overall, it isn't that great. I'd suggest just... using Khan academy, it doesn't have as much technical issues as this one.
By far the worst online homework system I have ever used in my life. Frustrating, picky with answers, time consuming, and encourages cheating and memorizing answers over learning. Not worth a single second or cent i have spent on it. Destroyed any enjoyment I previously had of chemistry.
Many students have a hard time learning from aleks. It's ridiculous how when you get almost through one series of problems completely and you make a mistake on your last one you have to go back and redo at least three more. For example in chemistry if something has two different chemical names and you don't submit the right name you have to start all over again. It's the same way if you have spent tons of time figuring out math problems all the work you had done doesn't count anymore. It's a poor inefficient learning source that is hard for students to excel in. It could be helpful by changing a lot of things but unless you are just trying to make your students hate the subject not a good program at all.
I've spent over two months trying to finish this stupid thing and the questions are so ridiculously hard I can't even remotely answer, them even with outside help! Also the line of best fit is impossible because they want a very very specific number and how the heck am I suppose to do that while on a tiny screen? It's so ridiculous and will ruin my gpa
I really like how this program rewards success by deleting it once you have a sign error on the next problem. Repetitive testing really drives home the concepts. Not. If you ask for help in this program, you get points deducted. Makes so much sense to pay out the@$$ for this program to tell you you're wrong. Teachers are so keen on using this program because they rely on it to teach you, but all this does is further the corruption of learning by testing rather than teaching. Question after question, test after test, and for what? Am I supposed to learn something from that? Absolute garbage, and as others have said, if you see a professor is using this program, drop it IMMEDIATELY.
ALEKS is a very bad way to help your children/students learn math. They usually give you confusing problems, and students can be stuck on one topic forever because you have to get three correct in a row or it will keep taking points from you every time you get one wrong.
It also doesn't explain clearly what you got wrong, it just says Try Again. It gives students a lot of depression and anxiety and makes them dislike homework and math itself. I believe ALEKS somewhat gives you math knowledge, but plan on helping your kid with half of the topics. I don't believe the money is worth it at all.
This is nothing but a way for a business to make up for the $#*!ty state of our education system. People don't want to spend money training and hiring qualified math teachers so we get this garbage instead. It teaches extremely inefficient, drawn out ways to do math problems and provides no lasting information. Once a topic is completed it is likely that the student is going to completely forget about it. Professors and teachers end up centering their entire class around this stupid program and pretty much do nothing. Aleks is a perfect example of what's wrong with schooling and education today. Plus it's way too expensive. Thanks a lot $#*!s
Hey, thanks you horrible homework platform for giving me 350 topics that snowball into 1500 problems if you literally get every question right. Screw that, I'm not wasting my time with this garbage. I put my time into a little bit of tutoring and it helped me much more than this, I get B's now. If I get one question wrong while I'm learning each subject I would do an additional 350-700 questions because I can't move on without getting everything right. Is this an engineering class? No, it's college algebra. Sorry, I didn't think that I had to have a 100% to consider myself eligible to move on.
I had quit smoking for over two years now. Picked it up back up, during a respiratory disease pandemic because I just can't handle the stress that this thing is constantly loading onto me. Everything about this website seems like it's designed for sadism. I can't wait until this horrible thing is out of my life for good. Nicotine withdrawal won't even be able to compare.
The best thing about Aleks are the bad reviews. Teachers and parents wont listen to us because were just kids or whatever, but this website must be taken down. It gives awful and unhelpful explanations, and practically kills you when you get one question wrong. I'd rather kill the creator of this $#*!, or kill myself, both are better than doing another topic.
Although it helps me learn for the quizzes and exams, it takes up a lot of my free time. 20 topics can easily turn in 100+ questions of math homework, and who would want to spend 10+ hours doing all of that? There were many times when I wanted to punch my monitor in. The only reason why it gets two stars instead of one is because I actually learned for the exams and quizzes, although, If I don't finish the last couple topics, that will heavily impact my quiz / exam grade, since the hardest topics are guaranteed to be on quizzes / exams.
P.S. This is my third semester using ALEKs and currently I am doing Trigonometry.
Two questions, who tf coded this garbage program, and who gave them their degree. This program probably wasted a combined 100 hours of my time over the past year. It deletes your progress when you get one question wrong, many of the answers they have as correct are not correct. It is evident that McGraw Hill is only in business through bureaucracy, as they are incompetent in every venture. Hate this company with a passion, they are ruining kids interest in learning. Useless company and software. Didn't learn a thing through their resources, had to rely on software that actually works.
I am a considerably intelligent 6th grader, I have had my share of crapping teachers and software programs in my learning carrier. None areas bad as aleks.com I do not even get graded for it and my mother forces me to stay inside and work on this horrid site I honestly wish the developers would get charged with the "virtual abuse" if you ask me.
I punched my laptop so hard while working on this fantastic website that it completely shattered my screen! This was great because I've been needing a new computer for a while and now I finally have an excuse to get one. Thanks Aleks! (Real story btw)
This app is horrible. It tries to teach math through monotonous repetition, without actually teaching concepts aside from having you do unnecessarily long questions without break. If anything, it's doing it's best to make everybody hate mathematics as much as possible.
Without even talking about the actual content or topics or how absolutely garbage they are, let's talk about the site's programming.
It's awful. This is the most buggy, piece-of-trash, laziest excuse for a program I have ever used. Buttons are unresponsive and take forever to load.
The site is poorly designed and should be completely reworked to not be so punishing to students. As someone with adhd, the way of punishing the student by taking away progress or having us repeat lessons we struggled with at the very end, had left me feeling like I was stuck in an infinite any time I lost grasp of every single concept. The entire process should be reworked. The explanations for answers are vague and even feel rude at times with a passive aggressive tone telling us that, maybe next time we should read the explanation, followed by some unhelpful explanation to solve a problem with multiple steps being completely skipped. As a tip for any other students being forced to use this site, download a camera calculator as soon as possible.
Aleks math not only just sucks, major $#*!, but it literally teaches you nothing. You go over maybe two or three questions per problem, and all depending on how many you get right, it could be more, could be less. Besides the fact I hate math in general, this made me hate it more along with my entire life and high school career. I actually dropped out it was so bad, and then I decided to try a new school just to find out they use Aleks as well.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
