No word... this should not be part of education system. What happens to one on one teaching? It's definitely time consuming and lack of using aleks because I do have bunch of another class. If they're too lazy to help out student with math, then it's proves it's not a good teaching methods. I'd say 90% of students felt the frustration as me and it's not ability to succeed. It's ability to fail.
I feel as if once i get toward the end of the Pie the program tends to say my answers are wrong and forces me to keep doing the same topic. Over and over again. And the knowledge checks? Only push you back further. This is possibly one of the worst ways to learn math.
I hate this program. In my class we have to do 60 topics a month and 400 minutes it doesn't sound like a lot but it is. You learn nothing from the topics. I don't like it takes away points from your progress if you get it wrong. No one should have to do Aleks
Worst education site known to man. The explanations are garbage and $#*! the knowledge checks. You will literally want to commit suicide if you get a question wrong and it is $#*!ing torture and lazy work for teachers to give you this.
Aleks is so amazing that it gave me mental health issues. *eye roll* aleks is the reason why i want to flush my computer down the toilet. It's also the reason why i had to pay a two hundred dollar fine for breaking my computer. :) (im using a different computer to write this review)
Ok im gonna be honest, what the hell kind of $#*!ty website is this? Because of this website, i have never felt more un-happy in my entire life. This website gives you and me so much bull$#*! that its unbelieveable.
If I could rate this zero, I would.
I am stuck using this crap program at Arizona State University. I have never been so unmotivated in my life to complete a class. I am a 4.0 student and am struggling with this software. ALEKS gives one brief example, then expects you to complete 5 in a row perfectly which are much more difficult than the example they showed you. Anytime you miss a problem, even for something like a negative sign you miss that problem, AND they take away a previous one that you got right. It. Is. Horrific. To make things worse, I am not actually learning anything. This program relies on rote memorization, but doesn't explain the "why" of anything. I can not believe this is where higher education in math is at.
I hate this website i never want to see it again ive never had such a horrible experience with any website in my entire life id rather jump off a cliff then type this website into google ever again even looking at this site brings a tear to my eyes and i quiver everytime i hear the name "aleks" you will never be hearing from me ever again if i dont respond just know alkes did this and i will cry and cry and cry. If i could give -******* stars i would thank you for your time :(
This program is definitely for the patient people, and patient people only. I DOES "teach" a lot of math, but in an ineffective way. First, it doesn't show you which parts of a question you got incorrect. Secondly, the lessons may teach how to do it, but a problem may arise that is a different situation than taught. When you get one question or part of a question wrong, it will take off a full point, and won't tell you which part. Additionally, knowledge checks only add more work, and does little to show where a student is. Overall, I wouldn't recommend ALEKS to any teachers that teaches high school or below, as it causes frustrations and has ineffective teaching methods.
The only reason I chose one star is because I am pretending it is a throwing star that I can chuck at Aleks's nonexistent face. The only reason teachers would utilize this program is to torture their students. Stop being lazy and teach your students. You want a pay raise? TEACH YOUR STUDENTS! Aleks is really good at taking a simple topic and turning it into a horrendous nightmare. This is by far the worst learning experience I have ever had. This does NOT make me want to learn at all. Aleks only pisses me off and waists my $#*!ing time!
All I can say is I have actually been looking at what aleks does for about 2 and 1/2 years now and my findings may make parents who pay for college classes cringe. What this simple input/output program does in effect is give you a pie with questions. After you complete the pie (answer all questions correctly) you then take a test to move up to the next level. Here is where the problems start, The assessments put questions that you have already been tested on into a current assessment. Now if you miss one of these questions it will be added to your workload even though you have already taken a test to advance to whatever current level you are in. So what aleks is doing is penalizing the user for material they may have forgotten. This is how the program wastes students valuable time and in the process if the student really needs to get to the next course well the student gets to spend even more money on an aleks extension. Fair? Super Scam? You be the judge. Just an FYI. :)
This website does help you learn but some explanations and some features are just confusing, also the teachers give it in such huge doses like 25-30 topics a week. I am in only the 7th grade and our teacher just gives us this. Also the knowledge checks are just so worthless. Sometimes the only way to get past a topic is to use a calculator. Some of the topics on here are so mind boggling and annoyingly hard that for some topics even my mom who took two extra years in algebra cant even do some. This seriously needs to revamp the way they work the knowledge checks and explanations.
Im taking geometry voluntarily over the summer before 10th grade, and it is actually the worst thing in the entire world. I end up spending up to 8 hours a day trying to complete the weekly mastery goal. The way they try to teach you and explain to you is actually useless. The most annoying things is that i type in the answer and it says im wrong but when i check it, its the exact same thing i type in. Also, the knowledge checks are actually hell. I end up spending hours trying to finish like ten or fifteen lessons, only to have the knowledge check and spending another five hours recouping the ones i missed. Also, i had to complete 412 topics in just about a month, Around 80-100 topics a week. Completely literally impossible. I would not suggest using aleks at all It will make you so frustrated and confused. I hate aleks more than anything.
The aleks math program is very difficult. My teacher requires me to do 15 per week, as the trimester goes on the Aleks get more and more stressful rendering me enable to do the topics because I do not understand them. The feature of having to do the topic over again constantly when you mess up on a problem is frustrating and gives me anxiety.
It is just a garbage site overall and does not help teach anything and causes pain I know plenty of the kids in my class are all suffering and I myself would like to nuke the people that work there multiple times. Also, it is a scam of my money and I would rate it -******* out of 10.
ALEKS is almost a never ending homework site that in some schools can be 50% of their math grade. You have to do that in top of the homework you all ready have. Never to forget those random, time wasting knowledge checks that can be 25-30 questions long. Most students are having extreme levels of stress due to the endless amounts of homework.
If you want to spends endless hours doing math problems only to have your progress taken back for a program glitch or an accidental mistyping this is your program. Making a computer teach is an absolutely stupid idea. Without the human element, learning is lessened. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, but for me personally and many others the structure of this class just isn't conductive for learning.
I have to use ALEKS for my precalc class and it has induced so much rage from me it's ridiculous. The fact that it detracts progress every time you get a problem wrong is not only frustrating, but intentionally so, which is bad design. I cannot express, with every word in the English lexicon, how much fury burns in every fiber of my being every time I use it. Every little typo or tired mistake wastes more and more of my time, for which I can confirm that ALEKS is the most unforgiving, anger-inducing, stress-building piece of garbage I've ever used for homework in my life. But it's automated and *technically* works, so that's a star's work. Yay.
If I could rate aleks 0 stars I would it is a horrible website. I promise you, you will not retain anything this site makes teachers lazy, it explains topics terribly, it will bring your grades down, and knowledge checks will set you back. I don't recommend
This is the most terrible horrible no good very badest thing ever. It does not help students at all it makes students stressed and there are many other ways to help students learn. You can use it to assign a topic that you want your students to learn but overall very stressful.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
