I am a host on air bnb and I absolutely despise the company. When guests ruin your home the "host guarantee" is complete bull$#*!. They offer anyone refunds for any reason and quote "extenuating circumstance". I am removing my listing with them as they are terrible.
The quality of airbnb depends solely on luck. You might get some amazing people who try their best to accommodate you and make the staying experience as fun as possible or you get absolute apathy from people who only care about getting some extra money in their pocket and only see you as a means to an end. It can be used if you're in a hurry, but if you have more time look into cheap hotels, booking in advance might turn out cheaper.
First off this app asks for a lot of information and there is no evidence that the same is being asked of the host. If you value your safety don't use this app, host kept house doors unlocked 24/7 as opposed to having a room key, that's unacceptable. Host also didn't have control of her animals living in the house. Host requested outside contact information. Overall the stay was low quality and didn't feel like a 'bnb'. Overall I would not recommend this app.
Host was very intrusive and weird. Sent an email wanting to give tour of a 2 bedroom apartment. I didn't request a tour and operating an exhaust is not difficult which was his excuse for wanting come in the space we rented. He knocked on the door 9pm at night. He literally tried to push his way through but I blocked the door. My family was very uncomfortable so we left late at night and had to find a new place to stay during a graduation weekend which meant places were expensive. Understand this we are African American in a predominantly white environment which we had to be mindful of how we handled this man who probably knows all the police due to it being a small town. So even if we had a valid complaint against this man what's the likelihood of us getting justice or treated fairly. The safest thing for us to do was leave this man's property
Based on my experience this company engages in discriminatory practices, locking/shutting down accounts (my account) without good cause or due diligence.
Customer services are farmed out offshore and are nonexistent.
Airbnb business practices are questionable, to say the least, and I would be more than happy to join the class action law suit against this company.
You really have watch yourself here! First non refundable cancellation, that alone should send bad vibes through your bones. Second, these owners are scam artist, these guys are in the electric and water business too. Don't expect to just pay the electric bill, they will charge you more, up to 3 times what the electric company charges. Water, maybe trash in some countries, expect to pay top dollar. So what seems like a good deal can cost more in the end than just paying for a motel. Plus you don't have some idiot trying to intimidate you and wreck your vacation, oh yea not good!
I just want to vent my frustration at the Airbnb website process. I understand the motives for checking out potential customers but the process of uploading documents, videos and looking for social media history(of which I have very little) is so time consuming and tests one patience to the limit. In my case it was beyond the limit as I gave up after hours of trying. I wonder how many more there are like me and how many bookings are being lost by airbnb hosts. On top of all that to get an email after the verification process had failed and the booking cancelled to be told that my account had been debited and that there may be a delay in refunding it to my credit card was a shock to me. An awful way of doing business and I will not be attempting to use this site again. If this is the mess that they make of the registration and booking process I wonder how secure their storage of customers data is. Beware!
Rented a place for a friend's wedding because all the hotels were booked d/t events in the area. Owner cancelled at the last minute because they sold the place. Never disclosed it was on the market. All the hotels are full so we're stuck driving long distance to and from the wedding. Airbnb says owners are free to cancel anytime so no guarantees. Tough luck!
They sent duplicate tax forms for us to the IRS, so the IRS thinks we owe them twice as much as we do.
Airbnb has been totally unresponsive, giving us the runaround, and then dropping off the map.
What a shameful company you are. Between the legal problems we can get from using them, the risk of random people using and abusing your lovely home (as they have in the past), and then Airbnb making you pay DOUBLE the amount of taxes you owe because they screwed up is nuts. Stay away from these vipers. Their mishandling of this very serious matter was disgusting and legal action will be taken on our part.
I have not taken my Paris vacation yet, which we have booked through Airbnb. But I can tell you that they charge the full amount at the time the rental is booked. Also, they charge a relatively large fee on top of that.
I asked Airbnb customer service to redeem the interest charges for the four months that they are holding a couple of thousand dollars of my money, and I got a rude answer back. So, their business practice is very unusual and I won't be using their site anymore.
I booked a room for a week, but has difficulty uploading my ID so the transaction was never finalized. I then booked somewhere else and suddenly the first reservation was confirmed without my final approval. I cancelled the initial reservation within minutes of it being finalized and was still charged a fee. Of course, there is no number to call if you have an issue. I will not use air bnb again.
Have spent over 250k on airbnb and have 19/20 perfect reviews.
Today without a reason the owner told airbnb they wanted me out. I didn't break any rules whatsoever.
Airbnb instead of helping just said "once the host wants you to leave we can't do anything." Absolutely insane a host can just kick you to the curb whenever the want without repercussion.
I'll never use airbnb again.
AirBnb is the worst! They do not care about their hosts and it's so frustrating. Our home was trashed (items damaged, stolen, blood and drugs left everywhere) and we were harassed by a horrible guest. The cherry on top was this guest left a false and slanderous review after I requested money for excessive cleaning and the damaged plus stolen items. Learned my lesson there! I reached out to AirBnb MULTIPLE times about this horrible review after the worst guest experience I've had to date. They gave me the go around and never reached out. I sent an email to the CEO and funny they finally reach out a MONTH later... to say it doesn't violate their policy? What? Such a joke! They do not care about the hosts who are making them money!
Use Airbnb at your own peril. I have heard of friends using Airbnb for years with mixed results. I have a family event this month where we needed housing for a fairly large group (12 people) so I decided I would try it. My wife and I spent a few days reviewing search results and found what looked like a good match. When I proceeded to reserve the property one of the items Airbnb required was a digital picture of a government-issued ID. ARE.YOU.KIDDING.ME? Their justification was they wanted to make Airbnb safer for everyone. It certainly doesn't make it safer for me. Far down in the justification they say you can delete the pic 90 days after you complete your stay. A lot of good that does. Has anyone heard of backups? My credit rating and identity are not for sale to make the Airbnb experience "safer for all". Needless to say I did not book the property and will never book one through a company that has such a blatant disregard for my security.
I dont know if anyone uses airbnb but they are probably the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. I have been dealing with an issue for 2 weeks now and i can't even get a supervisor. I got one on the app and then he disappeared. Said he would call in 10 min and it's been 40 now. On hold yet again to speak to someone and I won't be getting off the phone until this is resolved. This has been such a nightmare I will never rent from this pos company again. Wait time said 15 min been waiting 40. Never again. This company doesn't even screen the places that they allow people to rent. I was being sub leased and forced out 2 weeks early and they won't even help me get my money back. It clearly isn't my fault they allow illegal things to go through their company.
I used Airbnb one time and regret it completely. They post only positive reviews! Customer service is non existent. I will spread the word to anyone who who considering using it. THE most scandalous business model ever.
Angie's Airbnb in Denver was exceptional. It looked exactly like the pictures. She had all the amenities as posted on her site. The bed was so comfy and the view spectacular. I will definitely stay there again!
Airbnb is a rip off! I booked a place and was unable to stay and checked out the same day because I had violent ghetto house mates, who bullied me off the property. I contacted the host and Airbnb for a refund and both refuse to reply to me. They took my money and refuse to help me so it's a Lose lose situation all the way around the bored. I will not be using this app ever again in life….
I recently rented to a guest that threatened not to pay because of false advertising. They, however had Moore guests than the contract allowed. I was very uncomfortable with. Them staying in my house. I wanted them to leave. Airbnb simply ignored me. Kept assigning me to a new support manager. They just want their fee and don't want to help their guests feel safe about renters in my home. I was so disappointed. After the current booked guests leave, I am through with them! It is not worth ruining your house over it.
Apartment owners be aware of airbnb renting your place and not paying you!
I posted my apartment in Rio de Janeiro with airbnb, they rented for a month, they got paid from the guests and 10 days later they have not paid me yet! So my apartment is occupied by people I don't know and I have been obligated to call airbnb every day to try to get paid. All they can tell me is a generic answer that somebody will get back to me. Very stressful, never again I will do business with them.!
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
Airbnb has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,084 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Airbnb most frequently mention customer service, credit card and full refund. Airbnb ranks 442nd among Hotels sites.
