I own a second home and decided to use American Home Shield to help avoid major costs of system/appliance breakdowns and also to protect me from being price gauged by contractors when they see out of state tags on my vehicle. Well. That was a mistake... Last year my AC system stopped working and the circuit breaker kept popping. I called ahs, they dispatched the first contractor who diagnosed the problem, replaced a capacitor which seemed to work until the two months later when we arrived and the house was over 90 degrees. We immediately contacted ahs who once again wanted another $133 service fee because this repair was one day beyond the 60 day warranty. After several escalations they agreed to waive the fee. Sent the same contractor again who diagnosed the problem as a bad compressor... he explained that ahs would be responsible to replace the compressor but the air handler would be my responsibility. That was fine... the terms of the agreement were understood however, ahs refused to pay for the compressor and wanted another contractor to come and assess the situation which took almost a week... due to the extreme heat we were unable to stay in the home, had to rent a motel room... and was only reimbursed for one day by ahs... once the new contractor was assigned, he rewired some stuff in the compressor and modified some compacitors to make the system work. This lasted for only one month then the circuit breaker blew again... the second contractor came back and this time told me the circuit breaker was bad so he replaced it with an oversized breaker... The system immediately began to freeze up and he said to remove the filter. Net net. The system/compressor was no good. The gas was low but the contractor never did any diagnostics. Just patches. I finally sought out a qualified AC company, they confirmed the freon and oversized breaker were both mistakes... I purchased a new system and fired ahs. They are not worth the money. They are in business to make money which means patch not replace. The solutions were not comprehensive or safe... they are not good. Run away!

American Home $#*!
November 7, 2022

AHS; is definitely not worth purchasing, the contractors they use are the lowest rated and absolutely will upsell any issues. The services they actually cover are typically handyman or diy (you tube help) fixes. Anything above that you will get the run around and the representative "escalates the concern" then quotes the contract, (which is very wordy and misleading), rep states its not covered, but by the way, the contractor will fix it for x amount of thousands of dollars. By the way i has the highest plan.

I called TO CANCEL, that is a NIGHTMARE in it self. You will have to leave your number for a call back, than 30-40mins later a call back from someone who asks for all your info and they transfer you, because of course its a different dept that takes care of that. Transfers -then the connection is horrible & disconnects (or they hang up) before you can actually cancel. Any reps you get on the phone continue to say i have to be transfered to the retention dept and it disconnects.

Once you finally get a rep in the "correct dept", give all your info again, they will keep you on the phone FOR OVER 1 HOUR and constantly put you on hold, OH someone in the
"cash out dept" has to input some phantom numbers in a phantom system for processing, lol, you have to laugh, finally CHARGES A FEE TO CANCEL

In August 2021, I contacted AHS to file a claim on a leaking water heater. They opened a service request and it had a "pending" label for over a month. I called and got the poor customer service hold line. Finally, they said they would give approval for an outside contractor in my case as no one was available from them. I found an outside contractor, but COVID and lack of workmen delayed their service trip. I finally got an appointment. I went back to file the paperwork on my choice of contractor and AHS had deleted my service request! So I had to start all over and pay another $100 fee. By now it is December 2021. I refiled and they once again sent me the notice that I was approved for an outside contractor. So I got an estimate from the same one I had hoped to use before. When I sent the estimate along with the info they required me to file, they responded by sending me two of THEIR approved contractor, who both called for me to make an appointment! That would be another $100 dollars and I already had an estimate from one they said was approved who could do the work in a day! I still have not resolved this. I called them today (1-21-2022) and pointed out the mistake they had made. They said they would have to check with their "boss" and would call me back in 15 min. That was about 8 hours ago. I am tired of having a water heater that has to have pans under it and wondering when it is going to just quit completely. This is lousy customer service all around, and I cannot recommend this expensive company that does not even know what it is doing. Every time I call I get a different customer service rep and I have to give all my information all over again! At this point I have paid 3 times for someone to come out and they just keep starting me all over. I am done!

Service and Qulaity
February 17, 2022

My experience with AHS has been worst ever as they did NOT provide the services they claim
Before signing the contract. They deal with worst contractors who are NOT professional at all, I
Had to replace AC unit and a Water Heater. The assign me a contractor for replacing AC (ALL RIGHT Mechanical Inc., Roseville CA) who was 200 miles far from my home and same contractor made 3 trips before they figure out that AC is dead. I did NOT trust this Contractor so I got my own licensed contractor (5* rating) to replace the AC which cost me 9K and out of 9K AHS gave me 1K for AC repair.
Second water Heater contractor (Street Plumbing and Rooter san Jose CA) came 3 times and
Could NOT fix the problem then I called AHS again about the same issue and they said you have to pay $100 deductible again for the same problem and they automatically deducted $100 from my account to assign another contractor ( Pennington Plumbing Services - San Jose CA)
that was assigned to me. The did replace the water heater by paying $800.00 from my pocket. I have a duct connection problem with Water now as it did not pass the city inspection I called the contractor and he does not respond I am still waiting.
Finally after getting so Frustrated with AHS I cancelled the contract with them.
Please be careful in selecting this company as your Home Warranty, They be OK with small fixes
Where your deductible covers those small fixes but when it comes to major repair like mine they
Are No good.

INCOMPETENT
February 18, 2021

I have used HSA home warranty for 13 yrs in St Louis and had A&E come to our home for repairs time and time again with no issues. We moved to FL 2 yrs ago and need repair on our fridge. We called HSA, which contracted A&E to fix it. The repair man came on Jan 16,2021, diagnosed the issue and ordered the parts. They scheduled a revisit on Jan 29 to install, which they never came and never called. They also said on their system that we were not home. This is a total lie. I have a disabled husband and we are home ALL THE TIME. We called several times after the visit window ( 11a - 2pm) and were told they were on the way. At 6:30pm the agent apologized saying that there were no more agents in our area. Rescheduled for Feb 5 (sorry this is our next apt), to which they did the same thing. Never came and never called. Again for Feb 12. Again for Feb. 19 - which should be an apt tomorrow, but when I called today to confirm, I was told that no agent will be in this area and that the next apt is March 1. HSA will not send another vendor because the parts are from Sears. A&E keeps playing schedule games with me. So, as a consumer, I am completely screwed because I cannot get another vendor to come to install the parts and I am without a fridge for over a month now. Mind you, when the monthly draft is due, HSA happily takes the money out of my account. When I schedule a service call, HSA requires a pre payment. What is a consumer to do? My kids told me not to write a review because I could "sound like a Karen". What does A&E care? They will get paid regardless of when they come. Tomorrow or next month. What does HSA care? They get my monthly payment. And you know what? If I decide to cancel my insurance, They will not miss my $600/yr premium AND I will have to start from scratch. So there it is my friends... A sad story of a broken refrigerator and a broken-hearted house wife who just wants people to do their freaking JOB!

AHS is a scam
April 30, 2020

My water heater suddenly not working on Saturday morning. I called AHS. AHS assigned Drainco Plumbing and I paid $75 services call. I waited. Nobody call me. I called Drainco many times, nobody answer. I check consumer reviews. Drainco has very bad reviews (1 star). I called AHS on Monday. AHS assigned another plumber call Plumbers Inc. Again I have to call them to get an appointment. They also have very bad reviews. The plumber came out on Tuesday. With less than 2 min. He said my water heater is missing couple parts and it needs to be replaced. The cost is $2350 (I know it should not cost more than $1000, because I did it in another house). He doesn't think AHS will cover the replacement and he will report it to AHS. Then he left. I called AHS. AHS said since you have missing parts, the insurance won't cover. You only have 2 choices, either pay the $2350 to Plumbers Inc to replace it or AHS will assign another plumber to inspect it, but I will be charged another $75 service call again if the 2nd plumber say the same thing as the first plumber. I said I don't trust AHS plumbers any more. I feel this is a scam. AHS plumbers will make up a reason that the insurance won't cover so they can charge the customer more money and AHS is happy they do that so that AHS don't have to pay for the service. If I ask for an 2nd plumber, he will say the same thing and I'll pay another $75. So I call up couple other plumbers, both of them said there is no missing parts, it is just the ignition part need to be replaced, but since water heater is very cheap now. It is cheaper to replace the whole unit than fix it. One plumber quoted me only $950. I went with him. He replaced it with coupe hours. I tried to talk to AHS to get back my $950+$75. Their response is it is not covered by the insurance (even on the contract said water heater is fully covered). Therefore I believe AHS is a scam. I'll tell all my friends don't buy their insurance. It is waste of money.

American Home Shield
We called to report our HVAC system was not working on 7.4.23. Cool Factory was dispatched on 7.6.23. The technician added freon to a system with a suspected leak. He also stated that the system was old and needed to be replaced. He said that he would put that in his report but did not do it. Adding freon to a leaky unit is not recommended by most reputable technicians. He did not check for other problems in a 29 year old system. It worked for a few days and failed again on 7.14.23 and Cool Factory was dispatched again to fix the problem. The same technician arrived on 7.18.23 against my request. He began checking with Mrs. Pharr observing him. He again stated that the system was old and needed replacement. She started recording because of her lack of knowledge of what he was doing. She informed him that was only for her records for future reference. He became agitated, reported this to his company and left without completing any type of diagnosis.
The next company to come out was United Air Temp. Their tech did a thorough inspection and stated the damage was due to a power surge. If this was true, it would have been visible to the first tech and he would not be able to charge the system because it wouldn't run. He turned in his report and AHS denied our claim.
We protested and AHS sent out a third technician from NOVA HVAC to diagnose. He saw that the compressor was locked up due to age and reported the system should be replaced.
AHS only offered us only a $500 trade in credit and a minimal discounted HVAC purchase price. This is far from their ads stating they will replace if it can't be repaired.
We're 20 year customers of this company and need to report them for their misleading ads and for ripping off their customers. There commercials state repair or replace if not repairable with no listed disclaimers visible.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS IT'S A RIPOFF!

My refrigerator started acting up. I tried to reach a human being. It was extremely time-consuming. It took 3 days of calling to get to a real person. Prior to that, I tried using the online service to file a claim, but was notified that my policy had expired. This wasn't accurate. Less than a month before the call, AHS had extracted money from my bank account. After speaking to a human, I received a confirmation code and was told that in 48 hours I'd be contacted by a repair provider. 48 minutes before the 48 hours was to be reached, an AHS representative called to explain that AHS had not received a return call from their "vetted and approved" repair service. I stated that I knew a service provider that I new was not more than 10 minutes from my house, that was professional, competent, and honest. The representative told me that unless the provider was vetted, that they couldn't authorize a repair. I responded that their corporate policy wasn't a "me" problem, and that the corporate vetting procedure didn't seem to be very effective. The representative told me that my preferred repairman could service the appliance if I'd pay them, then submit my invoice to AHS for reimbursement. I asked how long it would take to be reimbursed by AHS and was told it would take between 14-21 days. I told the representative that 14-21 days was unacceptably long and fell outside of my acceptable guidelines for timely reimbursement. RECOMMENDATION: you'll receive more benefit from your money by using it to line bird cages. AHS counts on policy holders cancelling their coverage. They make their money on those who do so. Stay far, FAR away from American Home Shield and be all the happier knowing that the negative reviews are accurate, and have saved you a significant degree of frustration, money, and peace of mind!

Plumbing Issues
July 29, 2022

I have had this policy since Dec. Of 2020. This is my fourth plumbing issue. The first two in March of 2021 they sent a plumber from Norco, CA which is over 260 miles from where I live in Bishop, CA. The plumbers only came up this way once a week. They fixed the first issue the first visit. The second issue in late March took them 3 visits or weeks and they still did not fix the problem. It was for a clogged kitchen sink. I ended up calling a local roto rooter company and they fixed it in 15 minutes. The 3rd time was in May of 2022. AHS sent a plumber from Mammoth CA which is only 1/2 away. He fixed it with no problem. It was a pipe leak under the kitchen sink. Yesterday, I requested service again this time for a pipe leak by the toilette. I looked on AHS to see the status of my request. It said there was a problem, so I text the company for help. The girl I chatted with said she would expedite the request and someone would call me back within 4 hrs. No one did. I called them and learned that they do not have a plumber in this area and they would send me an email as to what I should do to contact a plumber directly. They started to give me a list of plumbers I cannot contact. One being Dean's plumbing here in Bishop. I still have not received the email with the list of plumbers I cannot use. However, they did request payment of the fee from my back without making sure I can use the insurance. I am on hold trying to call them back as I type this. I will not be renewing the service in the fall. I guess if you live in a large metropolitan area it would easier to find venders. Sorry for ranting but I am very frustrated right now.

I think this is the 3rd time now in just a few months that our refrigerator's water dispenser stopped working. AHS has sent out contractors-- I won't even discuss the previous issues, but this time, I called the main number and could not get in contact with a human being! No matter how many times I said
"representative", it just kept ignoring me (i found out about an hour after all this bulls--- that the magic word is "agent." If you say representative or anything else, it will ignore you!

So I finally chose the option for someone to call me (when it finally gave that option, at least 15 minutes after holding!), and kept waiting for at least another 20 minutes. I stepped away literally for maybe 20 seconds to let my dog out of her crate, but could hear the "hold music" continuing. When I came back and looked at my phone, there was a sudden missed call from AHS! Meaning, since I had my phone on speaker and never heard any beeps, the way I would have if another call was coming through, that someone basically just called and hung up! So I cancelled the service request online and it said it will take 48 hours to get my refund. I'm still on hold and it is now 5:03 pm. I have been trying to get in contact with AHS since 3:43 pm. THIS IS A SCAM! If I ever get to talk to someone and AHS does not make this right and PROPERLY FIX MY REFRIGERATOR without charging me, I am immediately cancelling and will ensure that my best friend, who is a customer too, will cancel as well! What a terrible business! These are the kind of businesses whose executives are all going straight to hell and I cannot wait for such a day so I can rejoice!

Buyer Beware!
August 14, 2021

Buyers Beware! This company is a big scam and needs to be investigated and taken down considering all the horrible business practices it does to all of its customers. Our washer machine broke down over a month ago and American Home shield (AHS) sent A&E Factory Service contractor on 7/10/21 contract # ******* & contract # ******* on 7/25/21 to fix our washer machine but due to the age of the washer unit, the parts could not be found or ordered and according to AHS policy they will be required to replace the washer machine. AHS did not do so and their excuse was we did not receive the diagnostic report from A&E Factory Service. I called A&E Factory Service many times and asked them to please email AHS and send a copy to myself which they did but up to today 8/14/21, AHS still denies of not receiving the report and will not accept the diagnostic report copy I received from A&E Factory Service. So AHS sends another contractor which now says it may take 1-2 weeks for the part to arrive and may take longer if they find other issues. Our washer is still not repaired and this issue has been dragged on for over a month and a half for a family who has to manage a disabled bed bound adult person living with MS and requires this washer machine every few days. We have constantly made AHS reps and their contractors aware of our situation but they do absolutely nothing about this issue. Is this how a company should treat its paying customers? This is called customer abuse.
Furthermore AHS Representatives delete reports/notes from their customers portals to hide evidence from being audited for legal issues. For instance they have deleted 2 other additional contractors besides A&E Factory Service who canceled and did not show up during this past 1.5 months of waiting. It is obvious American Home Shield's main objective is to maximize profit and to be in absolute disregard towards its paying customers. It is a shame that so many customers have suffered and not a whole lot has been or can be done against this company.

Worst Nightmare
June 14, 2018

I requested AC service on May 19th and the contractor came around 25th but said they needed to speak with AHS to determine what and how the work can be done. Since then Ive been waiting, calling and texting to get an update. AHS did send me a letter 2 weeks later stating that the access needed to repair the AC wont be covered. Well, I didn't want to argue, all I want is to get my AC fixed asap, even it will be out-of-pocket. I passed this info to both AHS and contractor and was told that they will work on it to get me a ballpark cost and timeline. Another week past by and I found out that the contractor has been lying all this time. They were supposed to meet with the HOA but never showed up and they twisted the story saying that they couldn't get a hold of the HOA to get an instruction as to where to mount the replacement freon line. HOA confirmed that they have been waiting for the contractor to come in but as of today, no one showed up. Well, its June 14th, almost an entire month without AC and my folks are seniors who have various types of health issues. AHS failed their customers big time for assigning such a dishonest contractor and failed to offer any solutions. I paid the service call fee for nothing but wasted one month without AC. You cant live in Texas in the summer without AC in your house, I'm calling someone else for service and canceling my plan with AHS.
