I recently had the unfortunate experience of hiring Comfort First through American Homeshield to fix our AC unit, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. From start to finish, this company proved to be incredibly unreliable and their workmanship was downright shoddy.
Firstly, scheduling an appointment with Comfort First through American Homeshield was a frustrating ordeal. Their customer service was unresponsive and disorganized, making it difficult to even get a hold of someone to discuss my AC issues. It took multiple calls just to book a consultation, and even then, they didn't show up at the agreed-upon time.
When the technicians finally arrived, they seemed ill-prepared and lacking in knowledge. They spent minimal time diagnosing the problem and rushed through the repair process without any attention to detail. It was clear that they lacked the necessary expertise and skill to handle our AC issues.
To make matters worse, the repairs performed by Comfort First through American Homeshield were far from satisfactory. Within a few days, the same electrical problems started to resurface, indicating that their "fix" was merely a temporary band-aid solution. It was evident that they didn't take the time to properly identify and address the root cause of the issue.
What added insult to injury was the exorbitant price they charged for their subpar service. Not only did I waste valuable time and energy dealing with their incompetence, but I also had to pay a significant amount of money for a job poorly done. It felt like a complete rip-off.
Throughout this entire ordeal, I found Comfort First through American Homeshield to be unprofessional and lacking in integrity. Their workmanship was abysmal, their customer service was abysmal, and their overall approach to business was abysmal. I would strongly advise anyone in need of AC repairs to steer clear of this company.
In summary, my experience with Comfort First through American Homeshield was nothing short of a disaster. I regret ever hiring them and would urge others to seek out a more competent and reliable service provider.
I was with AHS for close to 5 years. My monthly payments were automatically deducted from my checking account so were always on time and never missed. I made my first claim last week only to find out that they were denying it. It was a Friday after hours and my A/C had gone out. The rep told me I had chosen the plan without A/C coverage. I knew it wouldn't do me a bit of good to argue so decided to sweat it out over the weekend and call main office Monday. Well I did only to find out that they were telling me the same b. S. I was given the run around between a few people, disconnected a couple of times and the final story was that EVEN THOUGH I HAD A CONTRACT FROM THE COMPANY stating my A/C was covered they were now telling me it wasn't. To add insult to injury, they stated they would be charging me a $34 "administrative fee" because I was cancelling "per my contract". WHAT? The contract is meaningless when it comes to my protection but not theirs? Not only can you NOT take them at their word but it is now obvious that their contracts mean nothing as well. Do not even consider these crooks!
My hot water leaked on a weekend in the middle of winter. I had to get it fixed fast. AHS had no live agents and the automated system wanted me to pay the deductible with giving me any idea if I would be dispatch an emergency service etc. I would not pay for something without knowing exactly and approximate time of receiving the service. I went ahead and did the job on my own and AHS (even though they asked me to fax the receipts) never responded not any of the managers when I repeatedly left messages. Wait time for all calls were at least 45 mins plus and 80% of the agents did not understand English very well. They start with apologizing profusely and the lines are generally cut when they cannot solve the issues. VERY IMPORTANT - the only time you get USA agents who are more experienced etc is when you inquire for new memberships - that's where the sugar coating starts. AHS claims generally hide behind offshore agents etc. I was lucky to get hold of a AHS local agent who I only got through when I posed as a new customer, she was very good and tried to talk me out of cancelling my policy and said she would give me some local numbers to call etc. I think the management hide behind bogus email addresses. ( because none of the email addresses published online worked in my case) At the end, I got nothing, last agent tried to talk me out of cancelling again. More embarrassing was I had also encouraged my neighbor to join AHS long before my claim and their hot water went down too. It took AHS almost a week to come and check and they said it would take a further week and a half for repairs. The neighbor kicked out AHS also lost money and they had to pay a couple of thousands to get it done elsewhere. I was so embarrassed because I was the one that recommended AHS in the beginning. AHS has lied to me in my case, did not reimburse any repairs, did not return any correspondence or phone calls. I would never recommend this company to anyone. They might seem the best of the lost but its the opposite. I tried and got short changed badly.
I recently received 2 emails from AHS stating that they want be back. REALLY?
They send horrible contractors and customer service is a joke! I had the worst experience and I hope no one waste their money.
Do NOT buy American Home Shield - COMPLETE RIP-OFF!
My AC unit went out a month ago. When I called in they did send a contractor 2 days later. The contractor determined a new unit was needed because the broken part was no longer available.
For the next month, I spent atleast 10 hours on hold/talking to AHS reps whom all promised to escalate my issue.
Each call, AHS blamed the contractor for not giving all the info needed for a replacement unit. Meanwhile the contractor was blaming AHS saying they can't wait for an hour on hold to give them the needed info. The contractor actually gave me their AHS special "pre-authorization" ID# and I called AHS and impersonated the contractor. I passed along the info AHS said they needed to the contractor a week ago and nothing...
So then three days ago I called to cancel with AHS. They put me to a "recovery specialist" whom promised she would escalate and even get their field acct manager involved. Of course no promised call back has occurred.
So now I'm going thru Home Depot and canceling AHS. I am betting any positive reviews on here are fake as well. People do NOT buy with AHS. You are better off saving the $50 premium and having your own rainy day fund
I recently had an issue with my washer and contacted American Home Shield (AHS) for assistance. Unfortunately, it turned into a frustrating and inconvenient ordeal that took a month to resolve. While I appreciate that the issue was eventually fixed, the process was not easy.
The first contractor that AHS sent came and tore my washer apart, but then it took two weeks to get back to me about the parts that were needed. When they finally returned to install the parts, the problem was not resolved. I had to call AHS again to explain the situation and advised that the contractor asked that they send a GE technician to fix it. Instead, AHS assigned a new contractor who was unavailable for another week, which meant that I had to wait three weeks without a washer. They again assigned another technician, but to make matters worse, the new contractor assigned did not contact me within the promised 4-hour window; three days later, someone finally reached out to me.
During this entire process, I had to make multiple calls to customer service and was told, "I understand; I apologize but there's nothing else I can do." I escalated the issue to the executive level by emailing individuals. When I asked for compensation for the additional expense, inconvenience, and frustration it caused me, the Executive Relations employee responded, "American Home Shield is not obligated to cover any additional expenses that resulted in the time it took to complete the repair."
I am disappointed with how AHS handled this situation and the lack of consideration for the inconvenience and extra expenses that I incurred. I hope that AHS will take this feedback to heart and improve its contractor selection, customer service, and willingness to compensate its customers when they fall short of their promises. I would caution others to consider their options carefully before choosing this company for home repairs.
This company should change its name to American Home SHAM. I've was with American Home Shield for 3 years, but decided to leave because they are TERRIBLE and their contractors are totally unreliable. I submitted a request on 8/1 to a dryer serviced. It was asigned to Sears (ATL). I made an 6 different appointment w/Sears and each time they never showed. I requested the cash-out option through AHS, but they claim the Sears tech has to submit a report first. It's neen an absolute nightmare.
They are a deceptive, "REPAIR" company. No matter how long you wait, or call, or email, they will never pay to replace your broken item. Instead, they will tell you they have escalated your request, or that someone will call/email you in 24-48 hours, but you will never hear from them again. AND, to make matters worse, when you call AHS to find out what happened, someone will tell you "ma'am/sir, Im sorry. I have contacted the contractor and they will be calling you in 24-48 hrs. I have also escalated your request to our escalation department…"
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
Every time I deal with this company, it is an entire procedure. My dishwasher was deemed to need to be replaced. I spoke with an American Home Shield rep, who gave me a cash-out number based on the old dishwasher I had. Ok, so far, everything is good. As per their instructions, I find a dishwasher I like, order it, pay for it myself out of pocket, get it professionally installed, and email them the invoice to the email they gave me. Moments later, I get a confirmation email that my invoice was received and I should expect my check within 21 business days. Ok, no problem. This was Feb. 7,2022. 21 business days pass and no surprise, surprise, no check. I call the company, am assured that they will look into what the delay is and if I could just be patient for another couple of days. Ok, no problem. A few more days later, still no check. I call again and ask to speak to a supervisor. Their supervisors always seem to be out to lunch. Anyway, I get told that they will escalate the issue and a supervisor will call me 24-48 hours later as per their protocol. So a week later (no call from a supervisor and no check), and I call back. That brings us to this Monday. The rep keeps telling me that they will escalate the issue, but finally does connect me to a supervisor, who tells me that she will also look into what the issue is and get back to me as soon as possible. She gave me the number to her direct line. Ok, we hang up. She calls back a couple of minutes later saying that they've already issued the checks last year and in January. I bought the house in October so last year was for previous owners. In January, the check was for my oven (which was also a long project to get reimbursed). I explained to her that this was for a dishwasher and invoice was only sent Feb 7 so how could they have reimbursed me for it in January? Anyway, don't hear back from her yesterday. Called her back on her direct line today, left a message and no call back. Their business is fraud!
I requested service on my tub 9*/9/20/15 and I dont have it repaired as of yet I am told they are ordering a part for it now how long does it take forJ &K plumging to get a part.
06/ 24/ 22 we started our claim water in floor ac vents and after paying for second opinions, sending us plumbers when we clearly stated was an ac issues, a trusted AC company came and left us a copy of the diagnosis coil inside furnace needs to be replaced DUE TO WEAR and TEAR American home shield denied the claim on 08/15/22 stating is not a normal wear and tear?! A coil is inside a furnace how can we possible bend it, it is old and they said no we live in Las Vegas and after all this they just said no. Customer Service is oversees nobody cares they hung on on you we have spent hours and hours trying to resolve this, they said a Supervisor will call you, that is not truth nobody cares they first lost the diagnose for 2 weeks we needed to all contractor to re send it and first they said they needed to see the words "due to wear and tear" now they have it and they said no it is not a "Normal" wear and tear common due yourself a favor never do business with this company water has been staggering in my vents for a this time I even have respiratory problems they do not care Stay Away worst company Ever for real.If you need to see paperwork I am willing to show it
First, I want to cancel my plan effective immediately after this month. The customer service has been horrendous since I've been dealing with AHS. It was something I just dealt with due to the fact I needed service requests, but I have reached my last straw with them.
I have called repeatedly since Saturday, and have not got any help at all. My house has been 88 degrees upstairs and 85 degrees downstairs, and I placed a work order online on Sunday and even after they advertise 24/7 emergency help A-USA air conditioning was not available. I called about 10 times today to schedule service/get a recall done from my LAST SERVICE THAT WAS NEVER REPAIRED, just to be told that my 30 day period was up on the 20th yesterday so I would have to pay another $75 even though the issue was never fixed. How can that be fair if I scheduled yesterday AND called just to be hung up on yesterday. Today, I tried to escalate the call today twice just to be hung up on the first time, and still charged the service fee the 2nd time.
Also, the vendors suggested are not available until July 1st, so they are basically asking me to burn up until then. Does nobody understand the urgency of an emergency? Either way I am completely sick of AHS, the crappy vendors you assign, and the extremely insensitive and unhelpful customer service. I will be much more happy to go spend my money with a company that actually cares to take care of their customer in a timely manner, and doesn't charge for issues that were never fixed.
I have had multiple claims over the 2 years I had AHS and every encounter has been "over-the-top" terrible. Customer Service reps strictly follow their "scripts" and don't listen to the logic of your particular issue, escalation to an "on shore" representative does not exist, and their contractors are often incompetent, necessitating a second opinion.
Contractors have also misdiagnosed problems that meant the repair was not covered under the terms of the policy (assumedly, so they could charge me more for the uncovered repair). When I brought in my own contractor, my suspicions were verified, but AHS would not reconsider their findings because I didn't use THEIR contractor(s) for the second opinion.
Also had a contractor that wouldn't fix the open ductwork in my attic until October because he said it was too hot in the attic in July when the repair was needed. (Avg. Daily temps where I live is 100+ degrees in July.). Wait till October for air conditioning with these temps? Really? Learned from an honest contractor that this is a well-thought out plan by the contractors to shift peak business to the non-peak months so the tech staff has year-round work. Getting referrals from AHS is desired, but evidently only desired by these contractors in the off-season.
If you ever opt for their cash-out for a repair, so you can use your own contractor and/or replacement choice, you're offered penny's on the dollar! If this is the amount paid by AHS to their contractors for work, I understand why the previous issues prevail.
Bottom line, run, don't walk away from American Home Shield for your home warranty needs. Life's too short for that amount of stress and frustration!
Overseas, difficult to understand, will talk loudly over you and threaten to hang up to keep you, ignore your attempts to cancel, impossible to quit subscription, now threatening to send me to collections. I SOLD MY HOME IN CALIFORNIA WHERE I HAD THE WARRANTY, MOVED TO COLORADO, AND STILL THEY WON'T LET ME CANCEL MY PLAN. And I believe they've targeted my phone number to leave me on hold indefinitely, when I do still try to call in to cancel AGAIN when they send me threatening emails, so I never get to speak to anyone now. DO NOT PURCHASE AN AHS PLAN UNLESS YOU PLAN TO PAY IT FOREVER. Also, while there were a couple of times that they covered small things without pushback, the people they contract with seem to be sub-par. One guy was good, but several others not so great, and they give you NO SAY IN WHO YOUR CONTRACTOR IS. What you save is little in the long run, if anything at all. You spend WAY MORE IN YOUR TIME - WHICH YOU SHOULD VALUE MORE than the savings is worth (with calls to "customer service" only to refuse, pushback or deny requests, frustrating you even more. It's not worth it. Do you research on local contractors, pick ones yourself with good reputations, and be cognizant of the wear and tear on your appliances, maintaininbg where you're able. A MUCH BETTER APPROACH. Keep filters replaced regularly, if something seems off on a control panel, don't find a work around or press it 8 more times until it registers, call someone of quality asap that you've vetted yourself. You'll be MUCH BETTER OFF!
No one calls me i ask for my service fee and i canceledl my policy. Please check all their contrator reviews before... they are three star rated?
One call for plumbing issues. Another call months later for electrical issues. Out $85 each time, and that's it. Don't bother with this scam.
Bottom of the barrel contractors, horrible customer service and they choose not to answer the phone when you are trying to cancel the contract.
American Home Shield is the worst home warranty company. Don't buy their warranty when you buy a house! We bought the Shield Complete and the list of things they cover looked like it would be a good deal. First off, you'll pay $75-$100 every time you call to have service even before they know what is wrong. I had two plumbing issues - the first one two days after we moved and the plumber came out. He couldn't fix it and said he'd submit the work order to AHS. AHS wouldn't cover it so we had to pay the plumber $675. They have so many loopholes and some of them are so vague that they will quote you a section and say it applies. Then we had someone from AHS call and tell us our policy #, address and our plumbing issue and told us to call back the company- that our policy covered the plumbing issue. I was basically called a liar when I called the customer service and the call didn't end well. I should have cancelled the first week and then I would have recouped most of my $675 but I didn't thinking - well, they'll cover some other issues. So... after Thanksgiving guests left we had a stopped up toilet. I looked at the policy - they cover the toilet, replacing the wax ring, and stoppages. I called, paid the $75 service fee and the plumber again couldn't fix it in the 25 minutes he was here. The plumber submitted the work order to have the toilet pulled and snaked and AHS gave me the run around for over a week. I waited for a plumber until 9 p.m. when I was given a new dispatch order. Plumber was No Show! AHS had cancelled the appointment and the next day told me it wasn't going to cover pulling the toilet. They sited two areas of their EXCLUSIONS but neither spelled out that they wouldn't cover it. I argued with 3 customer service people and finally cancelled. I got this worthless warranty on Aug. 2,21 and I'm getting back less than half of the $675. If we have another toilet paper shortage, save this warranty for use because it isn't worth anything else. Don't buy AHS- it's worthless!
I GOT SUCKERED INTO A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY BY THEIR FANCY TV COMMERCIALS. AFTER PAYING MONTHLY CONTRACT FEES FOR TWO YEARS I GOT A LEAKY KITCHEN SINK DRAIN. I CALLED THEM AND WAITED ON HOLD TILL I GAVE UP. I THEN WENT ON LINE AND PUT IN FOR A SERVICE CALL. THE CLOSEST THING ON LINE FOR A LEAKY DRAIN WAS FAUCET. I PUT IN MY REQUEST AND PAID THE $100 SERVICE CALL COPAY FEE. THREE DAYS LATER THEY SENT A COMPANY CALLED JUDIAH PLUMBING SFO BAY AREA ( AVOID THIS COMPANY ALSO). THE GUY TOOK PICTURES AND LEFT. AFTER WAITING TWO MORE DAYS I CALLED TO ASK AHS WHAT IS GOING ON. THEY TOLD ME THE CASE WAS CLOSED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. AFTER MUCH CONVERSATION I FOUND OUT THE PLUMBING GUY TOLD THEM THAT A HOT WATER HEATER DAMAGED THE DRAIN WHEN IN REALITY THE DRAIN IS 35 YEARS OLD THE THE METAL RUSTED OUT. AHS REFUSED TO REFUND THE $100 AND OR SEND OUT ANOTHER COMPETENT COMPANY TO FIX IT. I WENT AROUND AND AROUND WITH AHS AGAIN AND FINALLY I JUST CALLED A LOCAL PLUMBER WHO CAME AND FIX IT FOR $149 PARTS AND LABOR. TOOK THEM 45 MINS. I AM CANCELLING THE AHS CONTRACT NEXT MONTH WHEN THE CONTRACT RENEWS. I WASTED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THIS COMPANY. I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THEIR RATINGS BEFORE PURCHASING.
This is a complaint about American Home Shield (AHS). I have had several plumbing problems. In each case, AHS has sent out plumbers from Plumbers Incorporated, a company in Riverside. The technician from Plumbers, Inc will diagnose the problem, and then no one gets back to me. When I call, there is always some sort of excuse: "We needed to get authorization" is a common one. The left hand does not know what the right is doing. When I call, the AHS phone service operators have no idea what Plumbers Inc doing. The people on the phone at Plumbers, Inc clearly do not want to give good service. Recently AHS arranged for a technician from Plumbers Incorporated to come to my house on 1/14/22 to look at a toilet that was leaking at the base. He made the diagnosis, took my $75 from my credit card as the service fee, and said he would need to get the parts. I received a phone call on 1/15/22 which stated he'd return on 1/16. He never came or called. And yet the job is listed as "Completed" on the AHS website. I called Plumbers Incorporated. They said "Of course he can't come. That's a Sunday. We don't work then." Then why was I told he'd come then? No call or email since then. I finally called Plumber's Incorporated yesterday; no one picked up in any of the several times I called.
I then called AHS. The person on the phone was barely comprehensible.
AHS schtick is to blame everything on the subcontracted technician and pretend that this is the problem.
They have no desire to give good service.
Both AHS and Plumbers Inc give you the runaround. A toilet needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY. Plumbers Inc needs to go out of business. And then, nothing. No phone call from Plumbers Inc. Today is 1/26 and nothing.
