You wont be able to cancel. They wont even service your appliances. DO NOT sign up for this scam. I had to get my attorney involved.
This company is a scam. We purchased their highest teir of coverage because we were buying an older home with a lot of pre-installed appliances. Not only have they refused to cover any of our claims, they a incredibly dishonest about it. Most recently our glass strove top broke while we were boiling water on it. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a normal pot of water. When the glass broke, we weren't even in the room. They made us pay $85 dollars for a service guy to come out and take pictures of it and then after nearly a week, they said it couldn't be covered because it was not normal wear and tear. Apparently, boiling a pot of water on the stove is not normal wear and tear. They told me that the service person reported it that way, but the service company told me they did not say that. They said I would have to pay another service call to have a second opinion but would not allow me to choose the company. This is only the latest of their terrible service and I cannot stress enough that they are scammers and liars and you should not give them your bussiness.
Do not waste your money or your time. They are THE WORST, absolutely the WORST WORST WORST. I could never in words describe how bad my experiences with them have been. Long story short, I have been without an oven since November 2020! Lies, mistakes, errors, lies and more lies and still my oven is not repaired. I have spent countless hours of my life on hold with AHS, hours that I will NEVER get back, hours that I could have spent with loved ones being happy, only to be on hold with them to be told lies! I really think they are hoping I go away so that I can keep sending them money every month and they can collect their paychecks. SCAM! Take it from me, save your health, save your money. Just take the money you spend every month with them and put it in your sock drawer. It will be utilized there.
I should stress that I have had this problem with them at another of my properties a few years ago with my refrigerator. They ended up having to replace it, it took two years of me fighting with them, and ended up with a Fridgedaire to replace a Viking, then they dropped me as a customer! Then on this property they fought me over a garage door opener which I finally gave up on and replaced it myself. I am NOT giving up on this oven. But shame on me for giving them this many chances. What good is a home warranty company if they won't fix anything? Oh, just to take your money. TOTAL SCAM!
We have had a 2 contracts with them for over 7 years. We've had a few repairs here and there but nothing big. Our dishwasher broke last week right before guests arrived for a week visit. First, we had to schedule an online assessment... seriously? Can't be scheduled until 5 days after reporting the problem (ok, there was a weekend in there) on Tues, 5/4 at 1 PM. Had to call to remind them. They determine what was needed and said they'd order the parts. Today, 5/6 at 1 PM - 2 days later - I get a call from the order department to let me know the part won't be in until 5/30? And ends with, ok?
Of course I said no, it's not ok. I would like to speak to a supervisor. She continues - so do you want me to cancel the service? No, I would like to speak to a supervisor. Ends with, I don't have time to argue with you, call the (800) number and hung up.
I called the (800) and spoke to 'John' - off shore rep who was extremely difficult to understand. On the call forever. Finally got to the point where I think he said, they would give me a cash out to get it fixed myself. Not sure what amount that would be since we needed a heating board AND a problem with the top shelf fixed and he said there was no record of any other issue / problem than heating board. So if we move forward with repair they'll send someone 5/30 (over a month after reporting the problem) and they won't be able to fix both problems at once.
We've had minor things repaired over the years without the hoops and barrels. But here's the deal. Their business plan must be - we've had this contract for 7 years and it's likely they might start having issues with appliances, etc. so it's time to move to a different tier of service.
Put in a service request for our Refrigerator Ice Maker July 2020. AHS sent out a Sears repairman 2 weeks later, he ordered a replacement Ice Maker. Three weeks later I had to call AHS to get Sears to come back and put in the new Ice Maker. The replacement Ice Maker was not the problem. After a couple weeks I called AHS again and told them the replacement did not fix the problem. AHS then called another repair company, two weeks later that repair company came out and diagnosed the problem as bad door seals. A month later I am still waiting for this repair company to get the door seals in and make a repair appointment for me. This morning, Sept. 10th, they finally called and said 1/2 of the parts order had come in, but they expected the rest of the parts in early next week so they made an appointment for next week to make the repair. I have called AHS 3 times in the last month to find out what is going on and when the parts would be here and when the repairs could be made. Each time I called I was put on hold, with hold times being 1 hour to 1 hour and twenty minutes. I left my call back number each time. Each time I got a return call and the Customer Service person assured me if we got cut off he would call me back, each time I was put on hold for 15-20 minutes while they supposedly called the repair company and the parts company, each time I was hung up on and each time I got no return call. WTF. Terrible Customer Service. Three months now waiting to get Ice Maker fixed.
AHS is a ripoff company. I filed a complaint about my AC unit that stops cooling after about 45 days when I bought the policy. They refused to repair the AC claiming that it is a pre-existing condition. The Tech told me that gas has been leaking and condenser my need to replace and informed that leak may have started long time ago but you will know only when the gas has drained completely till that AC will keep cooling and that is what happened and as per Tech it may take one week to months or a year for the gas to discharge completely it depends on the size of the leak. On the website of AHS it is written that "Undetectable pre-existing conditions" are also covered.
When I called they told me you could have discovered this by simple mechanical test by switching off/on the AC, I asked why I would switch off/on the AC when it is cooling? And even if I do that how I will find the problem I am not a Tech & don't know much?
But they keep telling me we can not cover this repair as it is pre-existing. I wish I had check the ratings before I found they are no. 5 on one website and no. 3 on another one and my friends also warned me about AHS that they do not cover many valid claims. AHS is a RIPOFF COMPANY DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Please, please don't wash your money down the drain with this company. Place that $84.99 in a savings account and use it for home repairs. This product will NEVER pay for itself.
1) The companies they contract with are nearly always 1-star kind of places that are neither reputable nor honest. That's no wonder, as AHS is horrible to its providers and pays them pennies on the dollar. Reputable repair companies (I've spoken with several) have all broken ties with them. You cannot choose your own repair company. There will be ONE vendor in your area available, maybe 2.
2) If you have a big-ticket item, it will not be covered. Your contract will say that it is there to cover normal wear and tear. But not if it's a $3,000 evaporator coil. They'll pay for labor and a few other things. You'll owe $3,000 of the $3700 bill.
3) You will WAIT and WAIT and WAIT for repair. The repair company will indeed call you within 24-hours per contract, but they will not be able to come assess your leaking water heater for 3 more days. Then they will need to put you on the schedule for replacement once AHS approves it, which will take another 2-3 days. So plan on being without hot water for a week. You will call AHS and find that there is no "emergency" or "escalated" importance process for claims. You contract will state that your vendor does not have to arrive at the residence before 7 days. And I promise, as a warranty claim, you are not the priority. A friend will be able to call them separately for service and they will magically be able to respond the following day.
4) You'll still have to pay - a lot. Even if the cost of the water heater is covered, there will be elements that "must be modified for liability" that will cost 75% of the total cost of replacement ($1400 - we replaced on our own for $2200 the next day instead of waiting a WEEK for water).
Friend, it's just not a wise investment.
I have multiple properties with American home shield for many years. Recently mine water heater broke and I submit claims and they assinged to one rooter company. They came and submit report and when I called them they say it is under manufacture warranty and they will only cover for instalation cost. The plumbing came up with lots of modification and side cost. I said okay I can approve it and it was $1045. Then I placed order and 3 days no response and I cannot take shower. Then I called and ask can you give me and provide me the installation cost so that I can hire outside plumber and they said they cannot and I have to go with assigned plumber that does not respond.
With no option left and out of heat water, I hired and replaced my water heater with outside contractor by spending $400 in one day.
This company is cheater and they took all my money for years on multiple properties and when I really needed service they left me in dark and no support.
The actions should be taken on AHS. I am canceling all my service from them
I would give them zero stars if I could. I have a full year length home warranty currently that I already pay $65 per month for. Whenever you put in a request to get something fixed it's $100 on top of your monthly $65. We have a water leak from our hose outside so I was putting in a request for repair as the water bill keeps getting higher and higher. There was no specific place on the repair request to put in an outside hose water leak so I had to choose pipe leak. There is also no where to describe problem in this particular request. So anyway they say the contractor is home choice. They send a text to schedule a time to come out right away. Great. They even call the morning of to confirm. At this call my husband tells them it is a leak from the water hose outside. They said okay we will put it in a note. Then when the contractor comes to our house my husband says the same thing. It's a leak from the water hose outside. The contractor at our house says that's not covered in the contract he can't do anything and leaves. When I call American home warranty to get my $100 back since no service was provided they tell me that was for the contractor to come to the house. Never mind we had already told them on the phone what the problem was and they could've told us then it's not covered and there was no need to come out. This is money that American home shield is getting and completely in their power to return. They would not even let me speak with a supervisor on the line. They say one is supposed to call back in 24 hours, we will see. Also when I tried to leave a survey after the call the line stays on empty no survey ever comes up, I waited at least 10 minutes. Horrible company. I will have to go through my credit card company to get my $100 back for no services provided. I would save your money and find another home warranty company.
Horrible rip off worse contractors with long service wait times. Reason NO ONE would bite the contractors they contract with " other than AHS"! Be forewarned HRRIBKe!
I've been with AHS for over 4 years. My contract started off at $40+ and now it's $61+.
1. Hold times are usually long.
2. Speaking with someone you can understand is hard.
3. If you need to escalate an issue, they leave you on hold hoping you will hang up so you won't do the end of call survey.
4. I wanted to cancel my contract and they told me they will charge me an "administrative fee".
5. My A/C is not working. When I scheduled the appointment I was told I would have to wait 4 days before the repair company could call me just to schedule the appointment. When I tried to cancel that appointment and reschedule with another company I was told by AHS due to AHS regulations I could not schedule with another company. I made one phone call and found a company to come out the same day.
6. I had another experience with AHS where my hot water heater needed to be replaced. The repair company came out and put in a request with AHS to have the water heater replaced because it could not be repaired. Once I received the estimate from the repair company, I would still need to come out of pocket over an additional $600, and they were trying to charge me for parts I didn't need. Once I questioned the repair company they stopped returning my calls so I bought a water heater from Home depot for something over $500 (cheapest they had for the size I needed) and paid someone $350 to install it, including the additional parts needed. AHS sent me a check for $474, which didn't event cover the cost for the cheapest water heater comparable to what I previously had.
7. AHS makes it very hard to leave a legitimate review. Don't be fooled by all the "positive" reviews you see. I will be cancelling my contract.
A home warranty isn't worth it. Especially not with American Home Shield. Dealing with the hold times. Scheduling service calls online doesn't always answer all your questions. Repair companies that are not vetted, who take advantage of customers. $100 per service call plus additional costs for parts IS NOT WORTH IT!
At this point I am so disinterested in even having a resolution done on this, I would like to be reimbursed for my warranty that I paid for, cancel it from renewing and receive a reimbursement for my deductible paid for the ceiling fan call.
The sheer fact that when I asked Greg Long a simple question regarding one of my clients issues: "Is your companies stance that it is OK for a client with a pregnant wife to be without AC for 2 months due to your inability to have it contracted from a reputable company and get it installed in a timely fashion" and that answer was "Yes, that is our company's policy, it is not what we strive for however." I will NOT affiliate myself with a company who has so little regard for a client and who cannot even get a simple reimbursement correct. A very simple authorization to use a local company due to the circumstances should have been made, in order to keep good faith with a customer and a real estate partner. I will make it my business to tell every single agent I know that uses HSA about this, how their customers will be treated and I am sure that my client will do the same in even a more public forum. It says volumes that you have facebook groups dedicated to people hating your company and all the issues they have encountered; not to mention your service vendors who specifically put off clients of HSA because they get paid so poorly. While I appreciate Greg taking the time to speak with me on the phone regarding the issues, the answers were corporate and did not change or help the situation. Filing this claim on my own fan to see how the process worked myself solidified the fact that your company cares far more about the bottom line than they do about actually working with customers and real estate agency partners. I WILL NOT risk my reputation in this industry with agents or clients for a company who does not care about their customers or their clients. All of us agents are the face of your company, without us, you won't have a company. It may be time to revisit your corporate philosophy regarding treating customers and agents with decency and humanity, rather than hiding behind a corporate policy.
I've called on a Sunday to inquire about an electric service and was given an appointment for the next day (Monday). They only create appointments but we need to agree to their terms and confirm the same. Just before the appointment time, got a call from their customer service that they have had overbooked and can't send a technician in the scheduled time and cancelled the appt and asked me to reschedule on a later day of the week. Went back to their website to make another appt and made one for Tuesday. It felt great that their appt system is so current with not lot of time to wait. Again minutes prior to the appt, got another call from their customer service with the same reason of overbooked and can't make it up to the appt and asked to schedule another one. Not sure even the 3rd one will be honored and do not want to take chance waiting for them to show up and gave up with this terrible company with pathetic appt systems. Didn't even get to review their workmanship or the skills of their technicians.
It is a scam - they repair the low-cost items and tell you the high-priced items are not covered! Don't waste your time or $$$$
I called AHS on 04/06/2020 to cancel my contract due to their contractor's performance. I have had AHS for more than 2 years and during these 2 years I rarely used their service. When my refrigerator broke down, they sent out a technician who came into my house with an attitude. He spent less than 10 minutes to diagnose the issue and wrote down his observations on a piece of paper. When my wife asked him what the issue was, he explained in a hurry and immediately left. I was VERY UNHAPPY with the service and called AHS the next day to find out what was going on. The Admin on the other side told me that they were still waiting for the report to come back.
Unhappy with AHS for this incident, I called them to cancel the contract on 04/06/2020 and today I received a letter from them that they would be charging me an extra $52.99 for the Administrative Fee.
This is a total ripoff and I will NEVER hire them again. DO NOT BUY American Home Shield HOME WARRANTY. They are useless and worthless for your hard earned money.
The government needs to step in and shut them down! Total fraud. I paid my policy 11 months for nothing! First time I needed service for electrical issues related to my ceiling fan. Lights goes on and off and makes a popping sound. Per contract they're supposed to fix issues within 48 hours from service request. The Gail to do that. They kept referring me to the same contractor that's over 45 miles away from me and only services my area once a week instead of finding a contractor from within the HUGE metropolitan area that's only 15 miles away from me!
This company is running a scam! Spent 4 hours on the phone yesterday and was promised another contractor with the condition I authorize another $100 deductible payment which I did. Anyway, this gets done by the system so you guessed right a human cannot change to who you're assigned and guess what? I was assigned the same contractor who's too damn lazy to service my area more than once a week.
Meanwhile they have 100s of contractors closer to me in metropolitan Houston just 15 miles south and the system won't assign me anyone. They SUCK! The trying to cancel my policy was a total nightmare! With a crazy Spanish speaking woman shouting at me like a demon then when I finally get the person who will cancel she told me I would be refunded $48.99. A minute after the phone call was completed I get this email full of bs with an "Amount Due" PDF document enumerating how much I had paid to date plus an administrative fee for cancelling and the total amount I should've paid for remainder of contract and now they're saying I owe them $30. Mind you, I'm on a month to month basis and you can't sue them by the way! Now I'm out of $600 and a faulty electrical issue with my ceiling fan.
