Long response time
April 26, 2020

Long response time is not what we are looking for in these towns of course we understand people are understaffed. But it seems in these times since they're understaffed at the office they would pay more attention to their website and their responses to people that are trying to save animals. I've waited over two weeks for a response. On top of it they're one of the only people that are requiring pay for their adoption by seniors. In times like this it seems like they would be more lenient and have a better response system since they're at home in front of their computers but that's not the case. I don't know if it's because of my last name or where I live but I have not received a response to date.

We applied for 3 puppies in our area, got a call from one foster mom that was NOT in our area, she was 5 hours away, ONE WAY! It's been 2 months and never heard back about the other 2 pups that are supposedly in our area... Adoption fee is really high for this kind of customer service. It seems they had good intentions when creating the company but when I applied I got shuffled to several other places including a company owned by Bissell. Yes, Bissell the carpet cleaners. Don't we have enough corporate giants over reaching all aspects of life on this planet? NOT interested, I'm sure I'll find the perfect pup in my area without the help of this organization.

A scam
October 1, 2023

I found a Beagle named Mimi was adopted last month after I signed she notified me in less than 5 minutes. Everything she stated did not click. I found the dog on your website last week. You need to check out to remove your pet is legit. I'm going to get a dog from a rescue league.

Adoption Fee
March 21, 2022

After perusing the adopt a pet website and available dogs I was actually quite astonished at more than a few of the adoption fees. There are almost three thousand dogs available for adoption in the Cumming, Ga area and so far each one I have clicked on the adoption fee has been $330! That is absolutely ridiculous. I am a single mom and to adopt a dog that was either abandoned, found or just given up for that amount of money is highway robbery. How is it that pets at the Cherokee County Ga Animal Shelter have a $100 adoption fee and the adoption fee for other places is so inflated? Are you telling me that costs to chip, vaccinate and take care of animals is different elsewhere? Give me a break. Stop trying to milk people for all they have and give these animals a real chance at a real home instead of trying to line your pockets.

Pups & Persians
March 23, 2021

I have been waiting on a response from them and nothing. We took the time to fill out this long application and for what. I don't understand if the whole purpose is to put these pets in loving homes why there are no returned phone calls or emails. This is truly sad. This place only have a few animals at their rescue and there should be no reason why they could not contact me. We fell in love with one of their pets and we are still waiting. Hopefully they will contact us soon if not we will just move on with another rescue. So sad for these animals at this rescue.

I posted my purebred kitten Scottish breed on that website and received several applications. I started review and selecting the new family for the baby. Made an appointment with one lady, with name Megan Orr. She behaved suspicions, insane and inadequate. Looked at the kitten like it was something disgusting. I didn't like her questions. Instead of asking about the diet, supplies required and other questions which are normally asked by the responsible adopter she started blaming me that I could fake vaccination records and didn't do vet exam. I understood that this is the typical "Karen" and decided to leave and decline her application. She started texting me with her weird messages being rude. As far as I understand she complained about me this web site and they removed my account. Dear "Adopt A Pet" I will not give my kitten to mentally ill person. Better check your adopter for mental consistency. Сrazy people can be very convincing.

You are giving your address name etc to a mostly volunteer organization that you cannot see or talk to. I have had my computer crash twice when trying to fill out applications. One application actually asked for my social security number - think about that. I did not give them my Social security number and my computer crashed. So these people who you cannot see/talk to and they don't get back to you have an awful lot of info about you and your family. I got security risk flash on my screen two times - both times they were from either adopt a pet or pet finder. These organizations are a security threat as well as worthless when trying to adopt a pet.

Waste of time
February 28, 2020

Contacted 3 different listings about adopting a cat. The first one was already adopted but never deleted the listing after several months. The other two listings wouldn't respond at all, even after several messages. Waste of time, find pets somewhere else that actually makes an effort.

Private owner only
January 6, 2022

Don't say I didn't warn you - adoptapet is one of THE WORST. Right up there with petfinder. There was a pet that was being processed through a transportation service. Local adoption was not even available. Its all about the money with most rescues. Also, they emailed saying our dog who passed away was available for adoption. The listing was from 10 years ago and if you clicked on the link " no longer available". The best places if you are able to care for a pet is private owner. These are just people who can't have a pet for whatever reason. Its inexpensive and there's no funny business.

A site of scammers
May 18, 2022

I lodged an ad and have received nothing but a bunch of scammers. I paid a fee to place this ad and have spent hours trying to discern who is genuine. They do send alerts but it does not tell you who is the actual scammer and if they do know why are they allowed to still bombard genuine consumers with this rot.
This site should be shut down.

I found a dog that was perfect for what I was looking for to add to my family. I submitted an application and the next day I received a contract asking for my credit card information to pay the adoption fee. I had never seen the dog and I have no idea where the dog is but they wanted $100 from me. Don't be fooled! Do not send them money! I am savvy enough to know that it was a scam and did not provide any credit information. They should be ashamed of themselves.

A waste of time.
January 8, 2020

We spent days on the site applying for dogs. We were sent to Hands of Hope in Great Bend, Kansas. We have excellent pet fences and 20 acres of trees and ponds to go on walks with our dogs. If you are in a rural area and large dogs are outside dogs, forget it. The site is only for those wanting a 100% house dog. The organization is in error by not clearly stating so. High energy dogs like Labs must be house dogs in their view. I'm a wildlife biologist and high energy dogs need to have some room to run in and play. A house is prison for them.

Worst experience

We used Adopt-A-Pet to find a new dog, and thought that if they post ads from Rescues, it must be legit.
WRONG!
We got a dog that was aggressive and had been returned by a previous family. In five days he bit both myself and my husband and when I contacted the Rescue they told me there are no refunds ($600 adoption fee), then blocked me on facebook and aren't responding to emails. I tried googling the rescue and operator and found a long history of being banned by agencies and an outstanding arrest warrant for animal cruelty!
(BTW, we were sitting watching HGTV last night and I got up to go get a drink. As I walked past the dog, he lunged and grabbed my foot. There was no warning, and no food or toys in the room. It was completely out of the blue, which is what the previous family claimed too.
Stay away from Adopt-a-Pet and Give 4 Paws a Second Chance.
Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

I am writing this out of total outrage & frustration. I recently had to put down my rescue dog of 15 yrs. I am so missing having a dog in the house that i went searching for another dog to rescue. I found a dog on adopt a dog website & filed out the application. As if the application itself was not enough of an invasion of my privacy they responded w/more questions. Because I was not able to provide annual proof of vet visits I was denied adoption from there site. I loved & cared for my dog like i cared for my own children. I am an RN of 45 yrs who@ the risk to myself & my family has just worked in the hospital setting through this pandemic for the past almost 2 yrs. I am appalled that a person from an organization like this would have the ability to judge me as unfit to adopt a rescue dog. Shame on the organization & I guess the beautiful animal will have to spend more of his days in a cage instead of in a loving home. Good job adopt a dog. Avoid this organization like the plague!

Frustrated
November 3, 2019

Tried for months to adopt from many different rescues. Had my yard fenced in ($5000. 00). Apprently what held me up was my veterinarian of 40 years retired and I used vet pet at tractor supply, that wasn't accessible to them. I found a dog from the Amish for $245.00, Australian poodle mix.

This site attracts fraudulent postings by alleged "private owners" who claim to have a purebred cat or dog for adoption. Poorly written descriptions, cropped/misleading photos, unanswered questions, etc. These scammers are trying to collect upfront fees and get peoples' email addresses for spam purposes and/or phone numbers for robocalls. Administrators of the adoptapet site do nothing to screen or investigate suspicious postings, even when alerted; they're either incredibly naive, or they don't give a damn.

In contrast: the pet adoption agencies and rescues that utilize adoptapet are largely legitimate and trustworthy.

Long response. Asking for a lot of personal information including phone numbers of references, address, even education. They have declined my application just because I used to purchaise the medicine for heartworm disease not from my doctor, but bought independently. You will never hear real people talking to you. Just auto replies.
