Help Rescue in AR is a great rescue! I adopted my 3 month old chihuahua mix from them (and they were transported to CT). I was very skeptical at first because I couldn't find too much detail about them when I googled the group and I wasn't sure about the validity of Adopt-a-Pet. Tonya, the president of the rescue, addressed my concerns and provided me with their veterinarian phone number, paperwork, and videos of the puppy I was adopting. Their website is currently outdated but it is in fact legit- they understandably spend their time rescuing rather than creating a fancy website. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process and I'm happy I adopted from them!
A few days ago, I attempted to adopt a dog in my area on the *******@Adopt-a-Pet website. The email I received for potential adopters states: "Most people looking to rehome respond within 14 days. So now, we wait!" Really? Two weeks? Why not have a policy that places a three-day time constraint to the pet's responsible party to answer either way? If the pet's owner/rescue is non-responsive, then the profile gets deleted from the website. Serious lack of working neurons behind this website.

When contacting someone about rehoming a pet, ask for a Youtube link on videos about the pet you want. I adopted out two cats on this site. Videos really provide a lot more info. Shelters in Houston, Texas area are usually full of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies needing homes. Good luck! AG 02/07/2021
Tip for consumers:
Ask for a YouTube video of the pet you wish to adopt. If you wish to re-home a pet, add photos but also take short videos to help potential owners know that the pet is available fo adoption.

Do not fill out the application! They are a total scam and most likely selling your information after you submit all your personal info. There is no way to actually contact them. Shame on them for taking advantage of people who are actually willing to help these poor animals.

It's a scam to get your personal info

I am an officer of the state of California for the last 19 years and this is totally a fake site. They text you and they wanted to deliver the dog to your house but they just change it out each and every time and talk to me on the text and then when I asked to speak with his wife at 4:30 there was no call as he promised then they say they sold the dog, but there is no dog
This is a scam website. If you are looking to rehome they'll charge you $50 and never post. They have no contact at all which is a red flag. Will dispute the charge. I don't understand how these sites are not shut down.
UNRELIABLE. POOR SUPPORT.
(virtually non-existent as far as I can tell)
I lost an opportunity because the site failed to work when I needed it.
I posted a pet profile in detail and finally got an application from someone who wanted this cat. Somehow Adopt A Pet simple lost my pet profile and the applicant adopted somewhere else. For me, Adopt A Pet is a good idea and would be a great asset if it were RELIABLE but ended up a disappointing waste of time. I could not quickly reactivate the pet profile and lost a rare opportunity.
I applied for an interview and was granted but adopt a pet says that I was denied for the reason of dangerous enviroment. I request an explanation so that I could correwct and havenm't got a response in 3 days.

I took in my son's cat but due to health issues could not keep her. I did not want to leave her at a shelter so the humane society suggested adopt a pet. The site charged me to list the cat but then it would not update photos and even though I verified the account it would not publish the profile. Total scam rip off and I am disputing the listing charge!

Negotiated adopting Chewie with owner on Thursday. Agreed to pay adoption fee after seeing Chewie and meeting owner. Owner resides in Wesley Chapel, FL. I live in the Orlando area. The owner stated that ahe would be happy to meet me half way between Orlando and Wesley Chapel. We were to meet the owner the next day, Friday at the Longhorn parking lot to take Chewie and exchange funds. We tried to contact the owner but she never answered our inquiry. We ended up driving 5hrs for nothing.
I was interested in adopting a 2 year old cat I saw on this site from a rescue called Passion Animal rescue in University park, Tx. I emailed a question and received an answer right away. So when they asked for an application with a $35 fee through cashapp or zelle, I did so even with some qualms. When I asked for notification of receipt, no answer. Another question about the cat, no answer. I made inquiries through the AdoptAPet site and straight to the rescue. A week later I got an email asking if I was still interested. I said yes. Then, nothing. I notified the site and they said the rescue was legitimate and just ask for the money back. I did. No answer. I will say their customer service was fine. They responded quickly and addressed my concerns, but then I filed a complaint form with site and have not received any feedback. The cat is still on the website.
Bottom line, AdoptaPet allows scams on their website. I lost my $35.
After messaging donnas canine rescue, as per her request, not even a phone call, I realized this is purely a scam and my neighbour agreed as well since he was out $900 and no dog arrived at what they call "Toronto international airport". At least get the name of the airport right. Stick to a reputable agency.
I posted before about their website, how slow and cumbersome it was to use. It still is but I can live with that. What I can't live with is them allowing a private party to post a mixed breed mutt with a price tag of $1600. When I contacted them they told me if I wanted a lower adoption fee to go to my local shelter. This has nothing to do with me wanting a lower adoption fee, and everything to do with allowing people to use animals as personal income. I understand having an adoption fee but this is beyond ridiculous.
If Adopt A Pet is going to run an animal adoption site they need to take responsibility for what's posted on that site, period, especially if they're made aware of an issue. Just because you're actually adopting from a private party, rescue or shelter through their site doesn't mean they should sit idle and allow people to use animals in this way.
When you start your search a "new pet alert" pops up where you can sign up to get email notifications. There's a choice of free or $10/month. There's also a box that says "don't show me this again". Don't bothering checking that box, it doesn't work. You have to X out of the alert to continue your search. Then while you're searching the new pet alert pops up again. And again. Yes I emailed them about it and no, they didn't do anything to fix it.
Also I'm searching for a dog by owner. Some owners put little or no information and there's no way to contact them with questions. I also emailed adoptapet about this, I was told I should fill out an application then the pet owner can get in touch with me. Why would I waste my time completing an application when I have no idea if the dog is a good match? Or if it's even still available?
Too much frustration and time wasted, I'll be looking elsewhere.
I had my lovely cat advertised on this website for several months. I got NO interested families, emails, questions, etc. How is that possible? Could it be the $50 adoption fee? Either way, It seems like they need help in attracting people / families to the website. There are many people with legitimate reason as as to why they need to Rehome their pet. This website does a great job making it appear that no one is interested in your pet, so that you can change your mind and remove your account. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for someone to adopt their pet. It needs improvement.
Tip for consumers:
Don't waste valuable time trying to get your pet adopted using Rehome by Adopt a pet.com. Do your research and find another way because I don't think it's legit.

STOP THIS NOW. REHOME IS THE WRONG MOVE. I have adopted from adoptapet website in the past, but this is horrible. Owners will buy animals and then send them on their way when they're done with them. The first dog I came across "we had a baby so we don't want the dog" YEP this is what REHOME IS DOING. STOP THIS NOW.
** DO NOT ADOPT FROM "REHOME" - AND they want YOU to pay the PRIVATE OWNER A FEE? NO WAY ** HOW IRRESPONSIBLE IS THAT!
Been searching and searching for days and weeks. Private owners don't respond to the first person, they will actually skip over you even after filling out applications. It states ask questions if you not ready to adopt and if you ready apply. Well, I was lead on 3 times. One owner stopped responding and declined my application after someone adopted when I was literally down the street from her. The second person sent me emails back and forth if I wanted to see dog before adopting and we setup meeting place for next day. A few hours before meeting got an email stating they ran into a snag with his plan to give the dog up for adoption, so he is putting off for now. I responded with aww okay, but will she be up for adoption at a later date and time and no response. Finally, I find another dog similar to what Iwas looking for filled out application and everything that was posted about the dog was what I was looking for. Go to meet owner we talked, I asked questions and was given dog the same day. However, she then ask me could I pay her cash or through Vemo. I stated no the site specifically states we have to pay through the website by you providing me the link for the adoption paperwork and then they take payment. She says okay well do you have Zelle. I still insisted hey I cannot not. She then says okay I will send you over everything when I get home. She says the only thing is car rides if you ride around too long just give him a half tablet and he will be fine, I stated ok fine. I retrieved dog and got him home. He was whining which is to be expected beings that he has to get use to a new home and environment with kids which it stated he was good with kids, already housed trained no issues. Well I called the vet the next day to find out about his health history, and about that medication and little did I know he has anxiety issues and a corneal ulcer in his left eye and was given cream to help him with that 2-week prior. Anxiety medicine has to be given to him almost daily and ulcer issue was never told to me and when I contacted owner she was like and yeah I forgot. Like what the hell? This tells me that the site fails to screen what these owners post. If I wanted a dog with these issues, I would have gotten one, so I am highly upset my kids and I cannot enjoy our dog the way we would like since he needs special care until I can find out from my vet if this is something that will go away. Glad my job offers pet insurance. I was on the verge of giving him back, but my daughter was like mom let's just keep him and take care him. He is already going through alot with being in a new home and then put him up for adoption again who's to say he will be treated good and loved. I feel so bad, but at same time he is adorable, and I want to help.
These phonies, hiding,
stating dogs/ cats/ pets are Being put for adoption, these furry babies are being dumped at shelters, even kill shelters, the amish will breed them without regards, and throw away the ones they can't sell and adoptapet.com posts pictures of those babies being sold, they're irresponsible, will never show you the breeding place, the mom and dad, you meet in a parking lot somewhere! They wouldn't meet with me at the breeders, I recorded conversations, they're terrible and adopt a pet doesn't care or they'd never partake in this!
And if you truly love furry babies, stay away from these people, I'm writing a letter to our congressman in Ohio to change these pitiful laws that do not protect these babies! The amish, they're going to hell before any of us for how they abuse " animals" they're the real animals, going to church as often as you do, Won't save you, don't waste your time, furry babies are the angels here! Look at the pictures, they're all from amish country, New Philadelphia in OH, always the same person holding many different puppies and they won't allow us to meet anyone, it's always a parking lot exchange!
Sincerely. Monica.
A very clunky website. Almost impossible to actually see what the settings generate. The ever present free or pay option seems to override search.
Again, a waste of time
I found a Beagle named Mimi was adopted last month after I signed she notified me in less than 5 minutes. Everything she stated did not click. I found the dog on your website last week. You need to check out to remove your pet is legit. I'm going to get a dog from a rescue league.
I listed my puppy & someone adopt him. However 2 weeks later i get a very nasty call that a lady paid the adoption fee n wanted the puppy. I said he's gone already n should have been removed n threatened she had cops involved n i was a scammer. So she sent copy of contact n it hady name n city i live in so it comes up on Google exactly where i live. N they are note returning calls or emails even through they put me in danger.

Adoptapet.com, like Petfinder.com is more like Craigslist for pet adoption than anything else. You are not adopting from the site, you are adopting from the listing organization. They just provide the marketplace to help you find listings and to communicate with the pet advertiser.
Adopt A Pet supposedly vettes the organizations that list on the site, but this seems limited to a Vet Reference and they do not require proof of 501(c)(3) status or that documentation to prove you have required permits to operate a shelter or rescue in order to list on their site. There standards are not transparent and there are a lot of bad actors and wackos to be found.
The only mechanism they provide for complaining about an organization is via email and that information is way too hard to find. This lets a lot of bad actors and wackadoodles stay in business and make pet adoption far more frustrating than it should be.
PetFinder (and all the pet adoptions sites) really need to provided a rating and review system like eBay, This would quickly identify the organizations to avoid and save people heartache and frustration.
They should also require a link to the adoption requirements and applications on the site.
If they were to do these two things, I believe the majority of the complaints about pet adoption could be avoided.
We have been looking at several dogs and no one returns our calls, let us know if the dog was adopted or even responded to an email. You'd think with all the dogs they say they are overrun with because of people surrendering their pets that they would be a little more people friendly and trying to get these animals actual loving homes. We have hit more dead ends with these people than anyone we've contacted. We found a dog we really liked, filled out the application, emailed a couple times... nothing! Very upset!
