I previously wrote a 1-star review of Acorn TV and would like to comment. I mentioned before that I enjoyed watching the series/movies that Acorn has to offer, but the service and streaming were a big minus. I subscribed for a year but could no longer view anything after 3 months. Customer service didn't respond. I have since subscribed to the Acorn TV Channel through Amazon Prime Video and am pleased to say there are no service issues. I would not recommend subscribing to Acorn directly. Acorn has a lot of series/movies worth watching. I plan to switch to another channel, like PBS, at some point. Switching channels back and forth offers plenty of viewing enjoyment. Acorn is now one of my favorite channels, as long as the subscription is through Prime Video. Oh, and eventually Acorn did issue me a full refund.
If you get on at all, the videos stream through in seconds. Totally impossible to watch. Constantly does beyond video you want to watch to the next in the series with no way to go to the one you want. Doesn't matter though since plays in a couple of seconds instead of the 90 minute episode length. Then it says can't play videos because there are too many people using account, when there is only one person using one device.
Wow, tried to cancel AcornTV because we keep getting a "player error" when using the app on both a new Samsung Smart TV and an updated Amazon Fire TV. We enjoy the shows on Acorn but after 15 errors and the nightmare it takes to temporarily fix it, we decided to cancel (after trying to get help from Acorn's support) only to find out you get no refund if you pay annually. Even though the app is unusable, we get no pro-rata refund of our annual fee. I guess the lesson for all subscribers is to not purchase the Annual Mode.
If you pause or stop viewing or just because, acorn randomly stops the presentation of the show and then you have to restart viewing again. Happens on every Roku I've seen. Shows are good, offering a variety I don't get elsewhere…
Manhunt also was good, but got too "R" for us sometimes, but we watched to the end. George Gently was good. We watched Madam Blanc which was cute until the woke sexuality indoctrination Episode 4, then we shut it off. Similar with Larkins which was ok at first, until I realized that it glorified a criminal family who didn't pay taxes, and used their daughter sexually to corrupt male tax collectors. More woke, society-destroying garbage. Heartguy, we didn't bother as it's about a egomaniacal doctor's drug and sex life. We're shutting down tv more every day since there are few morally decent and creative writers. Just vulgarity and easily dicerned "plots" throughout all tv broadcasting today. It's basically syonymous with the moral corruption of society. Need to get back to God and decency.
I activated the service 4-9-2020 for the 1 month trail to see if we liked. Gave credit card info, contacted them per their method as to how to do an annual service if we decide to keep and got NO RESPONSE? Then got charged for a month usage on 4-16-2020. Resent another ticket (EMAIL) today 4-24-2020 asking why I did not get a prior response, was charged for a month and not directed how to do an annual purchased fee if we decided to keep. Time will tell if they read this review or if customer service will return from their hide out?
I really resent paying for commercial free streaming and then having to watch commercials that break in mid sentence in the show.
Love the shows, hate the blurry pictures. Lacking the crispness makes for an unpleasant viewing experience. With all the other choices out there, if they don't improve I'll canx.
This new version of the app won't let me cast to the TV anymore. Been waiting for two days to hear from the help desk. Tried reinstalling, no joy. It would be a good idea to have help staff available when rolling out a major app update.
So, three stars for the catalog and minus two for failure to beta test app updates
Reason as above bought to watch that particular program but could not find it so was very disappointed
I see that they finally marked the episodes watched but why couldn't they do that before releasing the new version. I still prefer the previous version, it was so much easier to deal with. Still a big problem with the closed caption. When i stop watching in the middle of an episode and then go back to it, 9 times out of 10 the CC is way off.
This company has to be the most unprofessional of the streaming channels.
Agree re bad customer service.
Shows are great. Terrific. FANtastic.
BUT, the support sucks big time.
I'm having trouble watching on my Samsung Smart TV.
Sent 4 inquiries in the past 4 weeks, got 4 responses that the e-mail was received and an Acorn representative will respond to your request shortly. Not a word yet and the problem persists. They should do better.
No way to get a human on the phone.
Totally disgusted in NJ.
Got it mostly for the last season of Foyles war but checked other things while I still had it. The content is fairly good, alot of the series can't be found elsewhere in Sweden (where I live), so that's good. However, the app for Apple TV is a joke! It's hard to navigate, it reacts super slow to browsing, and after each episode it freezes so I had to restart the app to watch the next episode. For the price the content is really good, but if the app doesn't work you can have the greatest content in the world, I'll still keep to Netflix and HBO.
So far, I'm still on the one month free trial. After reading about all the billing issues, I'm going to carefully monitor my credit card.
I wish they had more offerings. It's still fairly limited. On the Feature Friday section, they say there is a new movie available each week. I've checked for the last two to three weeks, and no new movies have been added that I can tell.
On the plus side, I was able to watch the final season of Doc Martin.
I like many of the programs and for the most part they stream fine. However, I have had some issues where the streaming stopped and I've had to back up and start again.
The website is really poor: they need to list more information about the shows, including the actors and the date of the production. You can add shows to your watchlist, but trying to find your watchlist is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It's not listed as a link on the home page, and seems to be buried somewhere. I found it once and now can't find it again.
So the jury is still out for me...
I opted to try Acorn tv after disappointment with Britbox and requested the free trial. After the one week "free" my account was billed for $5.99. Fine with it. Three weeks later billed again for $5.99 meaning there is NO free one week trial. Contacted Acorn and ignored. Will binge watch this month and cancel.
I really like the Brit TV and movies. However, I'm amazed at what terrible service, and what a chaotic website Acorn TV offers. As for service, don't expect to ever get a response from any email you send them on the Contact Us page. In the rare instance of getting a response days or weeks later, it will have nothing to do with what you asked.
As for the website, they continually put up selections that they don't have--click on it to watch it and you get "you must have typed it in wrong, no such page." Or the other frequent one--that it's available only it's not. It's coming, only it's not.
Amazing how little they care about decent customer service!
One will find that streaming Acorn TV with Amazon Fire TV is impossible, not so with other devices. I do not know who is responsible for the app (Amazon vs Acorn), but if you plan on streaming Acorn with Amazon Fire TV save your money. Also, those whom wish to contact Acorn customer service may do so at *******047.
I have made 2 complaints about programs having problems loading while viewing. Never had any response from Acorn. It is the only streaming service that I have trouble with.
I do everything they say, specific browser, clear cache, etc. Still very unreliable. Update: They suggested Chrome. Turns out Safari was the correct browser. Works better now.
I wrote this E-mail to ACORN awhile ago. Still no response: Dear ACORN:
I am not a happy customer. I placed an order via mail on November 18th for a Irish Walking Sweater that cost me $169 (including shipping). A few weeks ago, I received an E-mail informing me that the sweater was back-ordered and I would get it by Christmas. Last week I called a customer representative who told me it was in transit and I would have it by today, Tuesday, December 22.
So far, the UPS, the FED Ex and the USPS have come down my street and no sweater. I just called an ACORN customer representative again who now tells me that the sweater was back-ordered for a second time and I would not be receiving the sweater until January 15h, the earliest.
I sent an E-mail to you ab out 10 days ago inquiring about the arrival of the sweater. You have not replied. You never informed me about the 2nd back-order. Instead I am re-assured that it is in transit to be delivered by today. Have you noticed the date? Today? It is December 22 and this sweater is a Christmas gift. I certainly ordered it in a timely fashion - November 18th, and you certainly took my money in a timely fashion. I am very dissatisfied with your customer care. You have not been upfront with me nor responsive the way any retail business should be to a paying customer.

More programs I can not watch than can. Particularly the most pushed by acorn.
Love the programmes I can watch. Any calls to customer service where unhelpful
No one likes the weekly release of shows! We like to binge watch but it takes 1/2 a year to watch the best series! WE HATE IT!
Acorn TV is a subscription streaming service offering the best British TV on-demand, commercial free. Shows include favorites like Poirot, Marple, Midsomer Murders, Vera, Foyle's War, Doc Martin, Jack Irish, Agatha Raisin, The Level, and many more. Fre...
