I ordered a book titled 'perennial vegetables' by Hanna Krem for 7.11 GBP and received what is only a very simple pamphlet. Also purchased what was described as a book and its a MP3 audio. Yes, there is a returns policy apparently, but air freight return would cost as much as original purchase, and then I would have to wait for refund. I have regularly ordered books from other sites, totally without incident, but this is a new experience, and one to be avoided in future.
Ordered a book at a much better price than I could find elsewhere. They confirmed the book was in stock. Book never showed up. When I asked for tracking or any proof of shipment they claimed to have mailed a $100 book without any tracking. I believe they realized other people were asking more for the used book and never shipped it. All the answers I received were nonsensical. Avoid this place like the plague unless you are willing to be scammed.
I order a book in October and have contacted the seller 2x and no response from anyone. There is no way to call anyone and they do not respond to email now I am out $25 I know it is not a lot but every bit counts. I will never order from them again thrifty books is a better way to go and the make sure you are taken care of.
After ordering almost $50.00 of books and changing my address at the same time of ordering, they chose not
To update my request. Worst customer service. They had e-mailed me it was taken care of. And much to my surprise, shipping is going to old address and feel they are not accountable for return.
Bottom line... buyer beware
I've purchased from this site in the past but this is the last time! I recently purchased a book at their website. I received a book that was an international copy and it was shipped from India and the ISBN number didn't match. When I try to return the book, abebooks dump me on the scam of a seller who has several reviewers who got scam exactly like me. Abe doesn't care who sells in their site, don't get scam like me. Go elsewhere for your textbook, like me.
They are a nightmare. Awful communication. Bought book on dec 30. They sent me shipping information that told me the book would arrive on the Jan 24. No company needs to wait 25 day to give you your product. I needed the book by Jan 10th so I had to buy it through my campus bookstore. A couple days later the book arrived and they refused a return/refund. Now i'm out 80 bucks.
I ordered my book a month before my class was set to begin. My class is now ongoing for two weeks and I still have not seen my book. I tried contacting the company and they took forever to reply. They claim to have resent another book but that has not been over a week ago and there is still no sign of a book. Don't waste your time on this company!
I only ordered from AbeBooks because I couldn't find a better price any where else. Of course, this was too good to be true. The price marked was $40 something but my card was only charged $4.99? I thought maybe it was a mistake and they will charge more to my account later. This morning I log in to check my order and it says it has been "refunded." They didn't even bother to send me an email to let me know and I haven't received this "refund" yet.
Ordered a set of books from this company on Dec 3,2020. Company immediately charged my credit card for the purchase and never shipped the books. The only communication I've received stated that the books have been shipped. In mid January contacted the company and sought a refund. They agreed and repeatedly lied stating that a credit of $151.21 had been issued. It never was. And never will be. I disputed this with the credit card company and after a 45 day review they decided in my favor. Never again.
I ordered a specific numbered book (new) for a class I was taking. It was $30-$60 cheaper than all other places I researched. Of course I was abit apprehensive after checking out the reviews, like on here. But I figured what did I have to lose. I gave it a whirl. So glad I did! Of course this is only my experience, but as we all know, many times reviewers are often the disgruntled. And the happy never say a word. So just abit of noise from a happy one. :)
I sent an email inquiry about an error they made in my order (sending it to the wrong address). No response at all. I found a "customer service" phone number and called it. The automated voice said to send an email. Terrible website. Order at your own risk.
It has been three weeks and my book is not shipped yet. Terrible company, bought from them because it said the book was available in NJ and I live in NY. I thought by a week max I should arrive to me. Awful, buy a book from somewhere else not worth the wait.
Do not trust this website at all. Booksellers are unreliable and either don't send you exactly what you want or they don't send anything at all. They asked me to cancel my refund request when I've been waiting 20+ days for a textbook and THEN they decide to tell me it's been shipped.
I've ordered probably a couple hundred books (novels) from AbeBooks. They are getting worse in that 30-50% of the books I receive, now as compared to a few years ago, are not described as book club editions when in fact they are. For the most part I never have a problem in receiving a refund, it's just a pain. Although last week, most recently, they asked for 3 different pictures of the book (this was directly from one of their participating dealers ThriftBooks).
Ordered a textbook for a course. Received e-mail that order was processed. Next day e-mail that book was shipped. Tracking information said USPS waiting for item and that was it for three weeks. Contacted seller, stated that they had a problem with shipper and that the book would still arrive within 14 business days. Those days came and went and still no book. Seller said that they would update tracking information within 24 hours. Never happened. Only after several attempts, seller issued refund. Complete waste of time and money. Look elsewhere
My textbook was supposed to arrive a month ago. I stupidly didn't check the reviews for abebooks before- if i did i would have spend the two extra dollars (literally) and gotten my book from somewhere else instead.
I have emailed the seller, and have not received a response yet!
My teacher is penalizing me for every day I don't have my book by lowering my grade.
I hate Abebooks!
I didn't think to check customer reviews before ordering from abebooks--rookie mistake. I usually check reviews, but I slipped. Of course, now I regret that I ever ordered from them. I was promised that the book would be delivered within 3-7 business days. It didn't happen. Now, I simply hope it comes before I have to order this book from a reputable, reliable company to avoid bigger problems. This will no doubt be my first and last time ordering from this company--cheap can be costly.
I ordered a book for my daughter's school. After a month, I received a hard stock envelope, which was odd for a book since it was flat. When I opened it, there was only a label saying "thank you for your order". Order number and order date, order detail, price and total. It also said: "please note that if there are any books from your order that are not in this parcel. They will be delivered in a separate parcel". So we waited, and waited and nothing arrived. We called them but it says that they can't take calls. So we emailed them and they said it was delivered (on the same date we got the empty envelope). We've been emailing them every day and they keep making up excuses. Obviously they are a scam. I've read other reviews with my same problem. They take your money and they don't send the book. I should have read the reviews before I placed the order.
I bought a US$50.13 academic book from Collina Books at abebooks.com, order number *******. The book was not delivered and I did not get a refund because I delayed complaining since I thought the book was delayed due to Customs processing. It is so frustrating because Abebooks protects incompetent booksellers who rip-off considerate buyers by depriving us of an opportunity to rate such sellers on their website. Stay away from Abebooks and Collina Books!
I used to like this site, and I bought a few good books from here with no problem. But the last year I've gone on this site, the books are so expensive! Their books cost more than Amazon! What's up with that?!?
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
AbeBooks has a rating of 1.6 stars from 715 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with AbeBooks most frequently mention customer service, tracking number and credit card. AbeBooks ranks 39th among Used Books sites.
