My son's flight was delayed at Miami International Airport going to Dallas, Texas to catch a connector flight to his final destination Ontario, CA. He missed that flight as his flight was delayed for 3 hours in Miami he finally landed He assumed he would be given a hotel voucher as he was told he would have to take another flight tomorrow. They also said he was to use his own charge card to make reservation for a hotel for overnight as they ran out of vouchers and didn't direct him to hotel to stay at. They told him he would get reimbursed by AA if he submitted the receipts. Who dropped the ball? Not a good way to build customer satisfaction. He will think twice before flying with American Airlines next time (so will I) American Airlines certainly isn't "GOING FOR GREAT" when they treat their customers like this.

We lived abroad for six years and I have flown ALOT. We recently flew to Hawaii with American. This seriously was THE WORST airline I have ever flown on. Our tickets were over $1000 a piece for a family of six. Ten minutes before we were to board they announced that there would only be food to purchase in our 8 hour flight and there was not going to be sufficient for everyone on the plane to purchase! EIGHT hours and American is allowed to not provide food?! We ran around trying to purchase food last minute at the airport for our EIGHT hour flight with four children. When we got on the plane, we were delayed on the runway for 45 minutes. When we were in the air, the only entertainment provided was ONE PG13 movie and a few adult talk shows after. I even asked the stewardess if they were going to show some children's shows and she said no. The airplane did not provide areas to charge our own iPods, iPads, etc... personal entertainment, so after an hour or so, my children had NOTHING to do. The eight our flight on the way home was the same - except this time we were prepared. There is nothing you can do to prepare for the tiny seats that are too close together and the seat backs that hardly go back because the seats are too close together. American Airlines needs new planes, should include a meal for any flight over 4 hours and should provide decent entertainment or a place to charge your own devices for any flight over three hours. I am a small person with short legs (29 inch inseam) and I found this confining - can you imagine how my 6 ft, 210 pound husband felt?! We have flown from Europe to the US many times which was a shorter flight through Continental and Delta and have always been served food, TV/entertainment on the back of each chair, and never felt so squished in my entire life! Fly anyone but American - it was like being tortured!

If you ever have a problem with American Airlines - don't bother looking for a real person to call. They only allow you to send an email with your complaint. Then they take several days to respond back saying they're sorry for the "inconvenience" of my connecting flight being cancelled and causing me to be six hours late for my arrival.

The "customer service" rep gave me an unspecified number of mileage points. It could be five or five million from the information I received. When I checked my mileage points with them, he had given me 7500 - not enough to use for anything at all.

Needless to say I would rate American Airlines / US Airways as total zeroes when it comes to customer service.

I would rather drive than ever use this airline again.

Extra charges
June 4, 2015

My sister get charged for a seat when I bought the ticket? She was told they would not print out a pass until she bought a seat... I thought when you buy a ticket it came with a seat because they will not let you fly standing up. I kinda understand the charge for baggage but pay for a seat. When you call them to see why you get the runaround. They don't tell you all you have to do is show up at the airport and they will give you a seat. Then good luck getting the extra charge back. I wonder if Delta does this? I don't remember them doing this but then it might be a new rip off.

Terrible service!
May 31, 2015

American Airlines are the WORST, very rude customer service. My flight from Miami to New York was delayed for almost an hour, they did not even bother to apologize for the inconvenience. Upon boarding my boyfriend was carrying my and his carry-on luggage, and they asked him to check in one of the bags. I explained to them that one of them was mine and I traveled with this bag as carry-on through half of Latin America but she rudely ignored me and just kept repeating what is the name for the bag? At that point I asked her what bag she was referring to and she abruptly said "whichever, you have to check in one of the bags." Then I saw they were letting other people pass with the same sized bags, so it was just a matter of principle for her. She saw my boyfriend carrying two carry-ons and didn't care that one of them was mine. When I pointed out that there were at least ten people with bags probably bigger than mine, the American Airlines employee just said I had two options "either to check in my carry-on bag or not board the plane." No apology, just grabbed my bag and turned away. Rude, unprofessional, horrible customer service.

No Stars...
December 10, 2014

No Stars... I have a US Airways credit card in which I have spent $100's of dollars in order to gain points for travel. 1st you can never us the points. Yes we have all hear this one always just shy a few points. So I purchased tickets yes paid for them. A medical situation occurred and I needed to change my flight, not cancel simple change. Well I might as well take out a loan. A $200.00 yeas you heard me in this day and age of airlines wanting passengers a $200.00 fee. I had spent enough money to have a companion pass. We all know what this means someone is able to ride with you. This is usually a courtesy for people who buy enough or fly enough. A fee to change this as well. Yes I am serious. And when you speak to the "customer service" and then a supervisor all you get is there is nothing we can do as sweetly as sugar. Sorry we take your money and will not give it bak but also charge you to change. Another interesting point put in one way flight and then a round trip, yes the one way is $30 more. The flights that are considered refundable are double. They take your money any way they can.

I purchased round-trip airline tickets through Expedia and their travel insurance. When I tried to change the last leg of the trip, I was told by U.S. Airways that it would cost me $759 up front and then file the claim through Expedia's insurance. Really? When I became upset and, yes, sarcastic, I was disconnected.

I make all my flight reservations for American on aa.com and it is the best of the airlines websites. It also has the best service for flight notification texting you when there are changes. Mobile app is also very very good

So their system is so old and backwards and apparently way too complicated to bring into the modern age that when you book your flight all payment transactions happen hours if not almost a day later. Well I got really burned by this because I booked a flight and got a confirmation email saying everything was confirmed. Then a day later I got an email saying there was an issue with my credit card (fraud alert, thx Wells Fargo) and the transaction did not go through. Well I was out of town and away from email and did not catch this for a few days. Of course by the time I did the flight was fully booked and American would not honor the price. I had to rebook on another airline and it cost me an additional $200. Miserable. If they would have just told me there was a transaction issue WHEN I BOOKED THE FLIGHT I could have solved this whole thing in a matter of minutes. On the plus side by not flying American I got to sit in a plane that had been reupholstered within the last 40 years.

I try to find cheap tickets overseas. And all site, i use before have big price, and not comfortable connection. So i go from kayak to AA.com
And find ticket $300 less that minimum in all sites. On a site it option to live # and in 20 seconds they recall me an help me all time. In this time site machine start to work and i with agent help find ticket. Interesting, that price from site was lower like 20% from agent price. So i buy it direct, and after they help me with special(kosher) meals and place. For unknown reason it impossible to do on site, as most airlines. But they help by phone

Horrible airlines
November 14, 2011

Horrible airlines. I never in my life have flown long haul with such an antique plane and have actually asked for a refund on my return portion so I can fly with another airline.
