I ordered a logo from them on 8/11/18. After I chose a logo, the designer sent it to me. Except that I couldn't use it at all; the file was compromised in some way. After a couple of attempts by the designer to fix this, he gave up and ignored my emails. I contacted 99designs directly to try and resolve the issue. At first, they promised to make it right, then, they also dropped the ball and stopped responding to me. I have a logo, but I can't use it anywhere on anything because it's blurry and one line of the text in it is too small to read. Bottom line? I wasted $338 on this inept, rip-off company. I'm now attempting to get my money back from Paypal except that I might not be able to do so. 99 Designs was smart enough to string me along until I could no longer request a refund. My next move is to obviously bad-mouth them everywhere I can. Maybe I can save someone else the agony I lived through with these incompetent "designers."
I was a bit nervous at first about running a design contest on 99Designs since I wasn't really familiar with them. But I'm so glad I took the chance. The level of talent on the site is amazing, and it was great fun to be presented with approximately 25 potential covers. It was very tough to pick a winner. It's also really nice that you can set your own budget. I'd definitely use them again.
I guess you get what you pay for. Not only does this site rip off designers, it also offers bottom of the barrel work. You are way better off finding a freelance designer or a design agency and paying real money for real designers.
I had only a very rough idea for a business logo. Thus, I started a competition and received great ideas. I was astonished how many suggestions came in within a very short time. The discussions with the designers were easy and most of them could provide further ideas based on my suggestions. I ended up with 3 winner pictures.
Therefore, the pool of designers is great. Way of communication is easy and I had a lot of fun.
99Designs was recommended to me by a friend when I needed a logo design and business cards for my new company. I've just received the final design and I am over the moon with it. In fact, I had responses from over 40 designers within a matter of days - which gave me plenty of options to choose from. The designers are all highly responsive to feedback. I am very happy with the process, the support from 99Designs, the quality of the design work and also the pricing. Highly recommend it.
I hate to leave a negative review for an Australian company because I use to live here. Their designers are really stupid and dumb. They miss spelled my company's name on the logo. You could of even copied and paste it from my brief? Duh? Support doesn't want to help with back and forth useless information. They job is not protect the stupid designers so they too must be stupid. $450 wasted for some idiot and dumb company.
99Designs is a great interface to work through for reviewing entries during the contest. The idea of having designers all over the world submit their takes on your brief is such a great idea and results in a high end final product. It was an exciting few days as I rated designs and sent messages back and forth. Be careful of giving a design four or five stars too early on. What can happen is less innovative designers rip off a design that got 5 stars with their own take. This results in numerous submissions that are similar instead of continuing the variety of submissions. Message designers you like directly to work with them on edits versus always giving them 5 stars and then publicly messaging the comments. It was an action packed few days and I couldn't be happier with the ending design.
What a brilliant company to create an affordable contest that brings multiple designers to the table. It was a positive experience from the beginning to the end. It led me to a fabulous logo. The company has thought of everything you need to know, has great customer support and prompts you with emails for next steps in the process. Highly recommend 99designs!
I was almost scared off by all the negative reviews, but I had the most amazing experience! "KCRS" (screen name) was my designer and provided not only a 5 star logo design, but provided it in multiple different formats, sizes, with text, without text... etc. I highly recommend this sight to anyone who can not afford thousands of dollars for a design company. It was the best $300 I've spent.
I had the account for 3 years, but didn't login, last week I submitted 2 logos and both of them are in the final round (with 5 stars from clients), today I couldn't login and got a mail with: "The current quality of your work does not fit our site standards. As a result, we have put your account on hold."
Hi Michael,
I understand how disappointing it is to see your account placed on hold. We certainly did not mean to demean you in any way, shape or form. Hopefully, you can see by our email correspondence that this is not a permanent hold. We only ask that you submit a portfolio because your current entries do not appear to represent our minimum quality standards.
99designs is a professional marketplace, and we are dedicated to cultivating a community of designers who are consistently creating unique, well crafted designs. To this end, each designer account is reviewed personally by a 99designs staff member. In order to remain objective, we do not judge quality on things like education, certifications, or even contest ratings but rather on the actual quality of the entries themselves. We use these basic, universal graphic design principles as our forms of measurement: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204862935-What-are-99designs-quality-standards-
During this period of absence, we encourage you to work on your designs skills. Your suspension is *not* permanent, please make note of this. You will be able to re-apply once we open the application period, so you have a chance to reinstate your account.
Best of luck - we hope to see you in the next application period. Feel free to contact our support team with any further questions: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Staff use racist and homophobic insults when dealing with disputes. Truly a disgraceful business
Upon doing a one to one project, the work was so bad it could have been done by a child. Had to laugh it was so bad otherwise the only option is to cry.
There is no way out then, even if the work is bad. You have to pay those disgusting sums of money for work that a toddler could do better.
A scam of a company with a disgusting attitude
This has to be the coolest logo design platform by far. It was absolutely seamless and the designs that were being submitted were so cool it was hard to just pick one. I viewed hundreds of designs from designers all over the world and managed to pick a design from someone I would of never connected with had it not been for this company. 5 stars!
By suspending accounts and not offering a different way to participate to improve, is not very encouraging of designers to want to come back and participate.
Funny how I was in the running to win one contest, and received very good feedback from another and now somehow after 2 years, the quality of my work is what? Bahahahaha
With sites like designhill, designcrowd, there is a whole world where I would rather participate and I do and make money.
Don't bother with 99designs, not like they pay benefits or support people working.
I've used 99designs a couple of times to source designs for ebook covers. The creativity of designers is sometimes hit and miss, but it's always fantastic to get a wide range of designs, and it's great to be surprised when a creative designer comes up with something fantastic that I hadn't even thought possible. I plan to use 99 designs for all my future projects. Ideally, one has a good working relationship with a fantastic and creative designer that understands your needs - but, that's sometimes hard to find. When you don't have someone like that in your network, 99designs fills the role spectacularly.
I used 99designs.com for their basic logo package. It was fun and fascinating to see my vision come to life from the designers perspective and then work together to create a professional finished product. With respect to the logo project, I consider the 99designs process the best overall value on the market.
Hi Barry,
We are very excited to hear that you had a great (and fun!) experience. Thank you for coming to us for your design needs!

99designs is such a fantastic site! You get so many wonderfully diverse designs to choose from (artists from around the world!), the interface is very user-friendly, the designers are easy to work with -- even with tight timelines. I definitely plan on using this resource every time I need graphic design work. Thumbs way up!
I am a designer with experience in the field. I had a profile on this platform for 8 years that was more than successful, I had more than 100 contests won and many successful collaborations through the one-on-one option. My profile has been closed because I simply did not meet their criteria!
I want to say that 99d is not the same platform it once was, they don't care about the designers they just care about money and nothing else. They literally act like you are in a Nazi camp.
The design support is so cruel and arrogant, if you are a designer they just don't care about you (not to mention the unprofessional staff working there).
I want to point out, compared to before, the number of contests has been reduced by more than half (if there were 1000 active contests before, now they are down to 400) which tells in which direction this platform is going, in my opinion this platform will not exist anymore long.
Frankly, I do not recommend you to use it either as a designer or as a client. Go to some other friendly platform.
All the best.
I am a designer that focuses on Book Covers. What I have learned since joining, is to choose your contests wisely and try to be original. The experience has given me more tools to be a better designer. The support team has been great, and sometimes it may take time to get a response, but it all depends on the situation. Choose wisely, be original, think outside the box, do not copy anyone and you will find a more lively and enjoyable experience. I am 100% happy with my decision to join 99designs. I am a better designer for it!
I pulled my contest after the CSR's response to my questions started to give me heartburn. I noticed the use of "already" at least four times in one comment (e.g.'" if the contest is completed already, and you have issues already, Jimdo would handle that already."). This bothered me... my questions at this stage were not confidently answered and CSR had to check for answers to basic questions (e.g. Do you provide support for back-end issues on the website). I think I'll just go with a basic site and look for a private designer.
This site screwed me over as a designer. A few years ago I entered a contest and after multiple (and I DO mean multiple) revisions, emails, messages from the client (I'm telling you, I lost track of the time I had stuck into this logo - I mean, the guy was SO demanding, he had me nearly in tears a couple of times), I was told I was going to be chosen as the winner. The time came for the contest to end and lo and behold, I was not chosen as the winner. Ok, that was a waste of time, but no big deal, right? Wrong. Come to find out, the company used my logo anyway! They saved my design, created a vector version of it (something any designer could do) and used it. It was on their website, on their clothing. It was their whole identity! I contacted 99designs about this problem and they basically told me, "Suck it up buttercup. There's nothing we can do!" Never again will I work with 99designs.

Answer: Hi Ernest, Thank you for the question!:) While we require payment to be done prior to launching your design contest, we do offer a 100% money-back guarantee, no questions asked. Simply call us before you decide to guarantee your contest or move yourself into the final round. More information can be found here: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204108729 There are a few instances you will not be eligible for a refund: - Once you decide to continue working with up to 6 finalists, you waive your right to a refund -If you "guarantee" your contest when you launch (under Contest Options), you will not be eligible for a refund as well. Keep in mind this option has to be manually "ticked" - You must call within 60 days of launching your contest I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please reach out to our Customer Support team at: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so we can respond to your inquiries at a more timely manner. Sincerely, Jerlyn from 99designs
Answer: Hi Devon, Thanks for reaching out! If you do not see a bundle package that fits your needs, we suggest starting with one contest and then work with your winning designer via our 1:1 Projects for additional design needs you may have. I would recommend starting with either a Logo + Business Card Contest (https://99designs.com/logo-business-card-design) or Logo + Social Media Image Contest (https://99designs.com/social-media-pack). Here is some additional information on our 1:1 Projects: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204760975 Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Support Team and we can explain the options in more detail: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
99designs has a rating of 2.1 stars from 412 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with 99designs most frequently mention contest holder, graphic designer and current quality. 99designs ranks 491st among Graphic Design sites.
