  • Roaman's

I have shopped with Roaman's for decades. My husband recently purchased a suede coat for my birthday from them which did not fit. I carefully followed their return policy when I shipped the jacket back to them. I specifically requested that the original form of payment, a credit card, be credited with the return amount. More than a month after the return was shipped I get a letter from the umbrella company "Full Beauty Brands" that I have a credit with Roaman's for the amount paid for the jacket. They did not credit our credit card as requested, but gave me store credit instead. This was not acceptable. We contacted them to complain (conveniently there is no phone number on their correspondence) they credited our charge card. However, even though we'd already spent close to $30 on postage sending this jacket back and forth, Roaman's informed us that the required an additional $10 restocking fee. None of this is stated at the point of purchase. The whole ordeal seems rather scammy. Fortunately, there are plenty of other sources for women's plus size clothing since Roaman's customer service has now become so poor. They have lost a longtime customer. I hope it was worth the $10.

I have been a Worldwide member of Ancestry since 2007. I recently attempted to get a DNA test for my 90 year old mother. As is the case with many 90 year-old people, Mom is not computer literate. Therefore, I thought I could just manage her DNA test for her. I would send her the test, she would take it and mail it in and I would do the computer stuff. Unfortunately, Ancestry requires that every person taking a DNA test have an email and an Ancestry account. I could not use Mom's information with my account. I don't want to other accounts in Mom's name and explaining all of this to her would just make her nervous. I can't be the first person with an elderly relative who is skittish about computers. I don't understand the need for these separate accounts and question the "protection" they afford since they could easily be faked. I don't see how Mom would be more protected by this system. I will say Ancestry is refunding my money, but this was disappointing and really a hassle. This was supposed to be fun. It wasn't.

Furthermore, Ancestry currently seems more interested in getting people to take DNA tests than people interested in genealogical research. In fact, Ancestry is flooded with the results of people who have no genealogical research connections to their DNA results. Without this research, all an Ancestry DNA test will give you is a few cultural percentages and probable immigration patterns. It may suggest a few cousins to you, but without additional research you will have no way of knowing how or if you are connected to these people.

BTW-- I've been a Worldwide member of Ancestry since 2007. I wish there was another service I could use besides Ancestry. The direction the company has taken in the past couple of years has not been positive.

I started out liking Zulily. I did. The shipping was slow, They packed things in an unprofessional manner and there was a 50/50 shot that anything glass or ceramic would arrive broken and something in your ordered would be wrong. Hats arrived crushed. Their clothing sizes were all over the place and their size charts were inaccurate to say the least. They were pretty cool about returns, but it was a hassle. They had some good deals and I gradually learned what brands fit and which ones didn't, so I put up with it. Gradually things started going downhill and their prices steadily increased. In July they sent me the wrong shoes. I followed their new return procedures to the letter and sent them back with several other items. The items I sent other than the shoes were all credited to my account. The shoes seemed to be missing from any refund. Since I payed by Paypal and was having no luck getting a response from Zulily, I contacted Paypal and filed a dispute. Zulily rapidly refunded my Zulily account, but not my Paypal account. I dropped the dispute because I felt this was an adequate solution and I was tired of fighting with them. Today, several months later I went to purchase something from another online vendor and I was unable to use my Paypal account. No idea of why. I contacted Paypal and my account was negative $19.99 and I needed to transfer money from my bank account to Paypal or I couldn't use the account. Why? Because Zulily put in a claim for $19.99 because I dropped the dispute. First they sent me the wrong shoes, secondly they refused to refund said shoes until I filed a complaint with Paypal, and now my funds were tied up that I wanted to use in another store because they wanted $19.99 from my Paypal account! I guess they were punishing me for filing a complaint. So, today was the day I had enough. I closed my account with Zulily and requested that everything on order be cancelled and refunded to my Paypal account. I've bought a lot of merchandise from Zulily, however this was the last straw. I will not be bullied this way for $19.99 by any company. Zulily is a hot mess. Use at your own peril.
