Reddit claims they want to improve things. Their idea of doing so? To restrict control of potential common interests to scumbag moderators like XenesisXenon with a "first come, first serve" system. You better hope that said moderators will not accuse you of harassment, hypocritically at that, while letting racists like Gippy run around claiming "diversity for its own sake" of a game that has no reason to mention skin color in the first place, or they WILL ban you from talking about a game series you have interest in. You're not getting around this by creating alternative "subreddits" either, because the Reddit admins will ban those with no warning OR explanation.

Equally problematic is when Reddit believes in power to the TYRANNY OF the people, particularly aggravated by a voting system where if you get hit by downvote bombing because people are defensive from your paragraphs that are warranted by THEM being nasty, you lose access to being able to post multiple messages in a given timeframe, preventing any terse or improvised posting or the ability to respond to every post in an acceptably timely manner. Reddit, quite simply, acts in bad faith in interest of supporting the mob.

Couple that with how the general content is BORING and you're not losing much of value there. Reddit has had many chances to shape up and it's just not going to do that whatsoever.

Tip for consumers:
Stay away from this toxic cesspool of bias claiming to be democratic while proving themselves anything but.

When you need help with dealing with an abusive landlord, you will be met with nothing but hostility intent on driving you out of your neighborhood by the likes of California's hivemind. When you call out the abuse by the membership, YOU get moderated and suspended.

I had requested help on escaping the landlord when I desperately needed it and was, before the request was of course being deleted, instead met with accusations of being DRUNK. Sorry, Richmond, CA region, but I don't drink alcohol and I have reason to not want to. You, however, want to be drunk and have my parents' house, already a mess caused by pluming that wasn't my parents' fault before the red tape complicates things, being the symbol of your sins to show for it.

It just amazes me how these people think that everybody living in this God awful disconnect already full of territorial paranoia could make a good society. NextDoor definitely enables this mess to continue via the same toxic hivemind.

Tip for consumers:
Stay away from this toxic hivemind and NEVER, *EVER* rely on them. *EVER!*

The userbase and admins are the same as that of the subreddit for the related games. And these people are intent on fake claims such as saying that they're vehemently against the rapist known as Mangs, to which their actions show that they're willing to conduct behaviors such as refusing to directly present evidence even when actively pressed and even allowed low-key advertisements of Mangs to run around uncontested. Their star player, GipFace, has also victim-blamed a guy named Matthew Pyke, only "apologized" 8 years after the fact, and THEN claimed again in a later subreddit comment of his that Pyke, a resident of England, brought being stabbed 86 times by a resident of Germany upon himself. This is on top of rhetoric implying developers to be including "diversity for its own sake" despite how farcical claims like that are. Xenesis Xenon, the head admin of Warsworldnews.com, has REFUSED to ban GipFace, undoubtedly sycophantic behavior on his part.

The site itself isn't worthwhile. It's just another information site, and it's pretty awful about that notion as well. The ONLY remote attempt at appeal, the involvement of ROM hacks, is undermined by the ROM hacks themselves being willing to sink into difficulty for its own sake, just because the first Advance Wars had the "best" hard mode, which trust me involved inexcusable map design points. This could be fixed, but as I stated above, these people want to be full of hubris and that prevents as much from happening.

Tip for consumers:
Use Game Boy Wars Network or the Advance Wars Wikia instead.

This is a platform that allows for posting videos of varying concepts. With recording equipment, it becomes easy to post things such as display of skill or evidence of problems. Comment control is also around to disrupt trolls from posting whatever they want to unwelcome effect. In combination with an administration uninterested in power trips, thus contrasting GameFAQs and TVTropes.org, this is a good site for managing a voice, providing you can get the view/subscriber count.

I have to knock down 1 star for each of 2 problems that seem related to each other, but trust me, they are different problems when all is said and done.

The first problem is YouTube's unwillingness to hear out criticism when they establish rules that scream favoritism of the rich. They are stationed in California, a democratic state and thus they're supposed to care about the little guy. When YouTube sets up rules that inevitably favor the wealthy just for being wealthy, that goes against the point of YouTube: to reward the notion of effort that displays the worth of the working class. I will cite that I, being local to the San Francisco Bay Area, went down to YouTube's HQ on December 6,2019 hoping to call this out citing about my parents' house, also in the region, being a God awful mess with the community refusing to help in fixing as much, a problem that YouTube is supposed to be built to address. This attempt failed miserably because the intended idea was treated as a joke by all other relevant parties despite being a God awful joke creating an atmosphere of unwelcome fear in that case. The simple issue is that YouTube doesn't even care what happens in their own backyard.

The other issue, one that seems related, is even worse: YouTube will refuse to disincentivize proven bad guys such as Mangs. Mangs has effectively confessed to rape and attempted to blame alcohol for as much, then tried to sweep the whole incident, which also includes evidence of him additionally turning a pseudo-African character into an offensive African AMERICAN stereotype, bashing on the intelligence of Africans/African Americans, AND naming a custom item after a slur in a public stream, in addition to the mistreatment of women that includes encouraged catfighting with a "Mangs Points" system, all under the rug. His reward was being able to break the 100,000 subscriber mark as a result of being able to get a monopoly on Advance Wars content. While YouTube's staff members aren't the ones at fault for the actions of either Mangs OR the related communities, they ARE at fault for allowing him free reign of the algorithm up to and including provision of monetization, even to present day. I have heard that Mangs isn't the only one to undeservedly benefit from this case of sloth on YouTube's part, granted that he's the only one that comes to mind for me.

Obviously, both problems involve the problem of "the rich get richer." The key difference, however, is HOW that happens, which is important when there's no sign of INTENTIONAL bias. The first is shutting out criticism, akin to TVTropes.org, although to a mercifully LESS abusive degree than them. The second is enabling whoever would rake in the ad revenue without acceptable background checks, which is what enables Mangs to run around. This is ultimately a sign of failure to manage due diligence that warrants the 2 Star loss. I have enough problems with other parties involved in the politics already surrounding my parents' house not caring about that idea, thank you very much.

There is another problem worth bringing up. Although it's more of a nitpick and thus not worth knocking off a 3rd Star, it IS worth bringing up for the disruption it's capable of providing. When a user gets blocked from another user's channel, the blocked user's comments on the blocking user's videos all get hidden from public view. Blocking can happen for ANY reason, including declaring the target user "100% a troll" because the blocking user wanted to keep subscribing to myopic apathy, as I had experienced with the user RoahmMythril. Keep in mind that my comments had been throwing about good humor or providing game design commentary, or sometimes even both. It's rather bogus to let history be held at the whims of the popular, no matter how wrong THEY are. Mercifully, YouTube does have workarounds by its very design, which is what makes this minute in comparison to the other 2 problems I called out, but this doesn't change how abusive the conduct here can be and how it contributes to the "rich get richer" issue that I complained about with those 2 problems.

YouTube is still a good platform for the variety of interests and signs of fairness, but still suffers from the laissez-faire design applying to key points where it shouldn't.

Tip for consumers:
Useful for managing a voice, but call out the lack of criticism acceptance by the higher ups, and do NOT support rapists like Mangs

(Crossposting my Review of what is simply the same site as this.)

In the past, TVTropes.org was once consisting of believers of more genuine democracy. Though resulting behaviors of the userbase were still around, the site was run on an interesting concept of patterns in the media that we consume. Back in the day, I had done the YKTTW (now referred to as Trope Workshop) entries for a few tropes, most notably Savvy Guy Energetic Girl and Monster Allies. Then the dark ages came, signified by how the admins would ban whoever they didn't like for arbitrary reasons, up to and including grammar errors on a site where that would easily be fixed by something they called Wiki Magic. I was one such victim of this inane practice.

More draconian practices would come into play, in an effort to manage organization for its own sake. The points the administration would have are undermined by their renaming tropes into more generic titles as well as their continued practices of banning users with the same arbitrary reasons, claiming they have no validity on the site, and also dismissing other sites as inferior copies. This isn't even getting into how the admins and key users such as LightySnake wanted to be claiming to be democratic, which is a disgrace to the idea of aiding the little guy, an idea contradicted by their elitism. Their brand of hypocrisy has resulted in a user named ChrisX being left feeling unwelcome just for his opinion of World of Warcraft. One additional note is that these ill practices of the TVTropes.org administration are intent on forcing everybody to be happy, despite how that asks for a stagnant, unstable position intolerant of different opinions.

Oh, and in case you think the site holds themselves to their high standards? The image I provide is of Game Breaker for Kid Icarus Uprising, a page that is VERY overdue for cleanup even without the example I highlight. Said example, it should be noted, basically claims that all 3 Powers can be used simultaneously, which long story short is not possible due to technical details that I won't go into detail about here, although I will to anybody who inquires. This is more evidence of why the site's suddenly draconian and democratic-in-name-only standards fail: it shuts out needed voices for calling out these problems.

The way things are, the needed reformation process is unlikely. TVTropes.org, which I henceforth prefer to call vanilla TV Tropes particularly due to the generic renaming of tropes, is unlikely to repent. It could happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Tip for consumers:
Don't expect the moderators to play nice. AT ALL.

  • GameFAQs

12/27/21

I forget why GameFAQs becomes so appealing, and only know how it likes to appear so often on search engines due to a lack of a good competing alternative, one that would be needed amidst the glorified elitism of the moderators. The moderators have recently deleted evidence against a group of rape apologists in a discriminatory attempt to silence the person who provided said evidence. Evidence can be found on the petition "GameFAQs needs to stop supporting rape and discrimination" for anybody interested, but long story short, they are willing to keep enabling not only the YouTube user named "Mangs", an unrepentant rapist who has over 100K subscribers on YouTube despite the fact, but already shady characters in their own right who also claim to be against the rapist but at best refuse to directly submit more active proof of their actions which sabotages the credibility of anybody else attempting to go up against Mangs for additionally OTHER nasty behaviors, ones that don't even have anything to do with women.

The fact that the deleted posts were preemptively Archived also make it clear that the moderators' conduct is not new. In fact, there is an entire blog that posts VARIOUS actions by the GameFAQs moderators, the latest one of which (as of writing) implicates a proven doxxer known as "Flintlock Staff" who was made moderator. Worth noting is that "Flintlock Staff" would come from Kid Icarus Uprising, where the board involves the submitter of evidence having had his topic providing a Christmas gift basically celebrating a sort of character family choice met with unblockable bullying by "Flintlock Staff."

It is quite possible that "Flintlock Staff" was behind the false moderations, but there is no way to prove as much OR call as much to attention on the forums themselves even if you don't get arbitrarily suspended. Why? Because the punishment system is completely biased in favor of the moderators' whims; it is impossible to tell which moderator is responsible for an individual post's deletion without them giving a signature point in the first place, and even if you can dispute the moderation, they can Uphold without giving ANY reason and prevent any further attempt to dispute it. There is no calling this out in public either, because the "Ask the Mods" forum disallows talk of individual moderations, and the "Site Suggestions" forum bans calling out site policy. The admins don't even care either, only siding with the mods whenever something, ANYTHING, comes up.

This isn't even going into the brand of material that is allowed to run around. That second image was admittedly dug up via searching a line I remembered, no matter how stupid I am for remembering it, but believe me, that sort of content is TAME as far as what you can expect to find on GameFAQs without the mods caring to put a lid on as much. Reporting these messages is useless as well because the moderators are too busy picking on whoever they want to, assuming they aren't in direct support of the inappropriate material in the first place. Again, there is a blog that indicates how the moderators will themselves post less than welcome material, not all of which even involving objectifying women in the first place.

The clincher is when, like with TVTropes.org, GameFAQs will claim to be about democracy. They're a different form of the corruption of democracy: where TVTropes.org shut out necessary voices for healthier organization in a hypocritical zeal, GameFAQs runs on mob rule, which definitely makes it even worse particularly when it's still a bigger site. Red Ventures and C-Net, both allegedly in support of diversity, also warrant some of the blame for letting all of these problems run around unchecked.

It's also worth noting that the intended key appeal for the site, the guides themselves, have become increasingly more mediocre. This does NOTHING to offset the abuse of power in the social aspect that has become predominant in the usage of GameFAQs, and thus they deserve this BARE mention.

At the end of the day, if you can avoid GameFAQs, do it. Dealing with it unnecessarily at all is not worth the hassle of this mess. It's a testament to how much the internet needs to morally improve that dealing with it becomes too constant a necessary evil.

Tip for consumers:
FIND VIABLE ALTERNATIVES AT ALL COSTS. Also, advertise said alternatives to users who don't indulge in degenerate behavior; they will thank you for doing that.
