Very shady company, I would never use them again! They don't take care of their customers and send out sex offenders to peoples homes.
I have been on their site for years, with a grit your teeth success rate. Now, I get a "client" who has never done business with us give us a 1 star review because we hadn't got his bid done yet. Thumbtack not only allowed it, but WILL NOT PICK UP THE PHONE AND THERE IS NO EMAIL COMMUNICATION AND THE ONSITE MESSAGES GOES NOWHERE. This should be criminal. Absolutely criminal. Save yourself the grief and stay away. Plus, a 2 star average? Another red flag. Thumbtack is a scam. I am suing the "client" who wasn't for defamation and I am adding Thumbtack for letting it happen. I know, good luck, but I will waste their time like they wasted mine.
I would rather shoot myself in the head or set myself on fire then use Thumbtack again. In the last three days, one of their employees did not call me back. The guy that was supposed to give me a price on painting my deck was a no-show on Sunday. It was great to sit on my $#*! for two hours, waiting for snow when you show up as I write this I was going to get some tack warmer chance in this guy supposed to be fixing my cement wall you're supposed to be here at eight that is currently almost 1030 My Pl. Is it spend the extra money on Angie's list and to have somebody that knows what time is show up. My feeling is the people that post that are looking for work and wanna be paid well but they do not want to show up.
Terrible customer service, can't even change your email address without going through absurd verification polices that you have already done. Business model is terrible, they charge you for made up leads. They will charge you twice for made up leads (the same "person"). You will pay for leads to customers that don't respond/ghost you probably 50-75% of the time. Customer service is outsourced, doesn't really understand English. This is a complete mickey mouse operation. Avoid!
I started a new videography business in December. I decided to use thumbtack to help find leads. However there is no support for customers or pros. They charge you and match you with overpriced leads. Leads that are impossible. Leads that do not match the parameters of what you have submitted as a pro through their app. They rob and harm the people that make this company money. They took away all of the support so you cannot talk to an employee. I chatted briefly with a manager after asking to speak with one for over two months. He told me that there are no flaws with the company and if I complain about it then he is kicking me off the app. I have only 5 star reviews and provide a great service. It's much worst than what I have explained awful company.
This company makes up things as they go along. They claim I chose to pay for any lead they gave me. Charges of $ 9 hundred dollars plus for leads I didn't even ask for because I'm not that type of professional. Then told me because I went through the bank first they can't do anything. Don't do business unless your ready to lose your money. Customer service wasn't any help. And they refuse to give me their corporate office, which is in the states, and customer service is in the Phillipines. Total disappointment.ill never do business with them again and won't ever refer them.
THEY ARE THE WORST LEAD PROVIDER. THEY CHARGE TO MUCH PER LEAD AND YOU HARDLY GET REAL JOBS. FOR CUSTOMERS,THE ONLY PROS ARE START UP COMPANIES THAT ARENT VERY PROFESSIONAL OR EXPERIENCED
Leads are very poor quality, we're an hvac service provider, consumers on thumbtack are looking for companies that are selling their services below market value, why else would you use thumbtack not just google a business? Every lead was a price gouger, or had work no one else would take. I've declined leads on thumbtack, no refund. Currently of 16 leads 2 produced revenue, all in all in the negative with thumbtack.
As a contractor i can say it was biggest waste of money and scam! Please dont waste your time on this and money!
Basically they rob every pro that gives them money. When they deliver a bad lead their response is "oh you paid for it already sorry"
I did notice they sold out to a bunch of investment groups. What's that mean? Well it means they don't care about anything BUT MONEY. And honestly it all started making sense. Their customers are not the pro's. They use the general public to rack up all of the fake calls, shopping calls, sometimes the people have no idea how you got there number: thumbtack is garbage and I can't wait to see them fall
They will sign you up acting like you have a budget of 120$. Then charge you hundreds of dollars without your consent. It takes a hour plus to get on the line with customer service.
Thumbtack sell one lead 3-4 times. This is bad, but it worked when I could get a refund. Over the last month, Thumbtack took $400 from my card and I had one client with a small job less than an hour for $50 and minus $18 for a lead.
The contractor pays to be on the site. You may never actually see the person. You will see an unskilled unqualified laborer. Your job will be high and may suck. Beware
No one is actually licensed. We hired workmen to do repairs, they stated out good then went steadily downhill
Number 1 to use the Lead Service. It takes about 10 days to 2 weeks just to get online to except Leeds. You have to get past customers to give you reviews and get up to 10 reviews on there before they start giving you leads then the leads that you get some of them don't respond because it's mostly by text or through the app, nothing is on the phone. It's very hard to get a hold of the customer I had the service and I was getting familiar with it and then they cut me off and blamed the reason why it was cut off for another company service. I guess they didn't pay them and they've decided to shut mine down and told me and Tall. This other company has fixed would need to be fixed I would be closed anyone looking for this type of service I would not recommend thumbtack terrible service. You can't get nobody on the phone everything is done by text message. You can't talk to a person it's all done by a computer
I cannot say NEGATIVE things enough about Thumbtack. It is such a pain in the $#*! for contractors and pros. They charge you twice for the same lead, they send leads even if you block off your calendar, opportunities section is full of fake leads, they never ever speak up for the pros. If you have a brain, please use Google ads,Yelp or other social media platforms instead of this fake company. Oh, last but not least their customer service is in the Philippines and you can only reach out to them via text message. It takes at least 2 days to hear back from them.
I think they are scammers and just taking money from hard working contractors! I haven't received a quality actual job since February but they just keep hitting my card and actual clients will not respond!I've requested refunds well within bounds and according to their guidelines! I called to talk with a representative, sat and waited for 30 plus minutes! Terrible company!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
