I have been using wunderground for over 15 years, but it has gotten to almost be unusable. They used to have the best radar on the web, but now it doesn't work half the time. The radar will not refresh, or is unavailable. What a shame. It used to be the best weather site on the web. The weather channel really screwed it up.
When it was run by expert meteorologist founder Jeff Matthews, Weather Underground was the best in the business with a great tropical weather discussion blog. Now that it has been acquired by IBM along with the Weather Channel, it is nothing close to what it once was. The hurricane blog is a dead duck and it is, at best, an average quality weather service. In the prime time hours even during the heighth of the hurricane season, it runs sensational junk commercial and sensational programming. It is like the weather version of USA newspapers lite news. It is all about the lowest common denominator and the almighty dollar.
Painfully slow now. 76 mbps fiber optics in my home and it takes 15 seconds to load the page. When it does finally decide to load the new layout is so user unfriendly it wasn't worth the wait. Never again, off to Intellicast.
I wrote wunderweather many times and finally got an answer lol the dude was unapologetic for the crap they put up now, he said it was permanent and accused me of being abusive for being truthful about how I feel about the site as it stands... completely ruined as far as i'm concerned... no reason for the change offered and he wished I would leave wunderweather! No problem there I don't know why any one would stay with an attitude such as he has, I hope they fire his usless $#*! but the site being what it is they won't... Lee Burkhart
WTF are you people idiots? Change it back! I don't care what the weather in Sofia Bulgaria is doing You bunch of asshole programmers think this is funny?
I used to always respect the quality of Weather Underground, especially over Accuweather and Weather Channel, but recently it has been terrible. Even though I am a subscriber, it attached my local station to one not near me, 10 day forecasts load or not load, no reason, and I still will get ads, even though I pay to not get them. I think the parent company The Weather Channel should spend more time on the quality of their sites, and less on pushing the global warming agenda, at least until they get their websites right...
I'm not aware of what Wunderground used to be or didn't used to be. All I know is that Intellicast was my go-to weather site for years, and Intellicast was 100 percent problem-free and user-friendly. Upon being taken over by Wunderground, this site is a complete joke. Computer usage 20 years ago wasn't this slow and choppy. Two minutes into your visit, you need a Xanax. Weather Underground should be ashamed of itself. And sadly, I can't find anything close to being equivalent to Intellicast.
Been a Wunderground fan for years - great data, local sites. But sucky performance after the acquisition by Weather.com (greed, exacerbated by amateur implementation) has made it impossible to continue. Stuck around as long as I could, but can't keep rebooting the browser just because I forgot to close the Wunderground tab. Off to NOAA.
Wunderground used to be an awesome site. A city's view contained current conditions, radar, a graph-based 10-day forecast that presented a lot of data in a very friendly way, and some other data as well. You could set it to metric or English units. I would have given site site a 5 out of 5.
In the September 2017 redesign, the graphy forecast has been replaced with regular-old text weather, a commodity I can find on a hundred other weather sites. The graph is still there, but it's a page-load away and not co-located with other data I like to see.
To add insult to injury, the units setting is remembered, but isn't respected. If you jiggle the setting, it'll switch to Celsius for the current session, but reverts to showing Fahrenheit next time you visit--even though, if you check it, it's still set to Celsius.
Reduced utility and buggy... this is not an improvement.
Where do I start?...
1. Wrong units displayed (mix up mm and cm all over the place)
2. Location search doesnt work
3. Random locations (miles away) selected when city is chosen from a list
4. Select a city, you get wrong lat/lon location displayed. Select lat/lon location, and a totally unrelated city is displayed, nowhere near the lat/lon you keyed in
5. Setting favorites does not work
6. Setting home location does not work
The list is endless
The site is broken and not getting fixed
So happy they reverted to a previous format. The latest was sooo dumbed down & incredibly annoying that you had to scroll through bunches of info you didn't need to see what was important & had to change page to get to an extended forecast. Never had a reply to my customer service input but given this change just maybe someone is listening. Would love to have a customizable menu of what goes on my landing page :)
Running a search to see if other people are encountering WUnderground staff completely unresponsive, I am saddened to see it's endemic of what is likely the end of WUnderground.
In my case, I have been reporting reliable rapidfire data from a personal weather station KVAWINCH30 for 5+ years. Over the past 3 months, Wunderground has apparently stopped publishing my data for local reports as it is not receiving the "quality" flag for consistent and accurate reporting. Somethings wrong on Wunderground side as my data is clearly reporting ever 1-3 seconds and is accurate.
Emails have gone unanswered for months now... Crickets. Time to look for an alternative...
I have used WU or years, however now I cannot save my home station and have sent many emails which none have been answered. I am totally disgusted with the site now. I can go to the PWS web page I prefer and get the current conditions without using WU.
The renovation of the new site made it worse than worse. I used to enjoy the site but now it's just a hazard to go to. So much for a paid subscription again. The site couldn't get much worse. Will try something else.
Local weather stations disappear when you go to a bigger view of the US. A one time, web cams would show up but can't find them now. The original Wonderground app worked great on my IPAD. The Wonderstation app is still on my IPAD but sends you to the Wonderground app when you try to add layers. Bring back the web cams. Bring back to easy of seeing all of the personal weather stations around the world. Even the weather channel app is screwed up now (terrible format) compared to the older version. Fix it so it is user friendly for people than want more than a glance.
Wunderground was the go to site for years for precise forecasts as well as many other features. Since IBM took over it has become a $#*!hole. I do not understand the logic in IBM wrecking a fantastic site.
The new "updated" version of this app is so blatantly trying to make it unusable it is stunning! There is nothing about it that is user friendly in the least! It is garbage that needs to be taken out to the trash because it is stinking up the kitchen! Jeezuz!
I guess intellicast is now weather underground. NOT a good change. Intellicast had great radar... don't know what a "wundermap" is, but it doesn't give me any information that is of any use to me. The search is on for a new weather site. Sometimes mergers aren't always for the better.
Just take the Wunderground crappy radar and ditch it -- and put up the Intellicast Interactive Radar in it's place. Come to think of it -- might as well do the same with the Satellite and the 7 and 10-day forecast too. There, problem solved. Wasn't that easy!?
Keep it simple stupid and bring back the Intellicast maps formats. Wunderground is for home station fanatics. Some poeple just want to see the storms brewing over their local area. Keep it simple stupid!
Wunderground became my go-to site for weather when the weather.com website became far less focused on the weather and cumbersome to use. Now that Wunderground is affiliated with weather.com, it has undergone an radical overhausl and has many of the same problems as weather.com.
I am looking for a new weather site similar to the old Wunderground. The new Wunderground design is terrible!
Answer: This was deliberate calculated sabotage for some reason
Answer: It won't come back. IBM bought The Weather Company to get at the data so they could package and sell that to their corporate customers using their "Watson" cloud services. Individuals mean nothing. That they've managed to so thoroughly destroy what was once the premiere weather site says a lot about the incompetence behind their core "Watson" products. You might want to tell IBM that.
Answer: They hired a bunch of idiots to manage and design their new site. This included removing features and gutting the radar.
Answer: Yes. We have many employees who come to work each day desperate to appear productive and relevant. We ask them to destroy functional lean websites with bloated nonsense. Meanwhile, our executives require more money so we like to devastate communicative websites with ad-infested infestations of pus-riddled idiocy. Thanks for asking!
Answer: Pointless giving feedback/complaints. I tried this and got an automated reply telling me how much better it was!
Answer: Your local Tv station meteorologist.
