I love Writing.Com. There are so many ways to express my love of writing. And every day there are new activities to inspire me. I am so grateful to have found a site like this.
With that said, the site is a bit daunting for newcomers. However, the tools and features are well worth learning. Customer service is great and there are resources such as articles and forums for developing one's own writing style.
As a member since 2000, I can tell you that not only has this site helped me grow as a writer; it has also become a second home. First, I want to clear up a misconception. I've seen other reviews bashing the membership aspect, but I don't think those users understood the concept. Membership is free. Yes, you can purchase different levels for extra features. But at $10 for 3 months (or 1 year for $20), a basic membership is pretty darn affordable. We also have a couple of angel groups that can help out with the cost for those that need a little help. Not to mention the contests with memberships as prizes. I personally won a 1-year Premium membership. Twice.
Whether you enjoy writing for the fun of it, are looking to polish your skills before publishing, or just looking for something to read, I encourage you to give it a chance. In my 20 years, I've come across one unfriendly user. That's it. Our members and staff are always welcoming. There is literally something for everyone.
Writing.com, or WDC, offers many many ways to write, from novels, to poetry, to essays and countless more options., but also to do nothing but read.
There are also many ways to interact with other members, readers, writers. Get reviews and ratings for your work or rate and review others, take part in competitions or forums or review clubs and so much more.
Membership can be free or there are several, affordable paid memberships which offer a lot.
I can't imagine my life without WDC. It's home for me.
Thank you very much, Marian!
The writing.com site is a place where all manner of aspiring and published authors can practice the craft of writing. There are contests, newsfeed, blogs, prompts, forums where like-minded people come together to learn about writing, and to socialize. Indeed, if you are just wanting to read some great material, writing.com is the site for you! Reviews and encouraged. The site is extremely member-driven and not micro-managed. The best user experience can be found with an Upgraded membership level, which is very affordable, but you can join for free and see if you like it. Many people will help, you have only to ask. Many of us have been there for years, and one thing WdC definitely ISN'T is boring--you will always have an almost overwhelming amount of things to write about, join, read, and enjoy. Creativity at its best, and I consider it my online home. Enjoy!
My favorite writing site, a home for writers of all skill levels to share their words. There are all sorts of tools available to help make the writing experience truly your own, with the opportunity to have your work reviewed, as well as provide reviews for your fellow authors.
Thank you very much, Mike!
I love to write, but my crochet business has kept me pretty busy. I hope to get back to my writing soon. WDC has been great and the members are so encouraging and helpful. I never thought I could write anything, but entering contests and receiving honest reviews from fellow authors was just what I needed. I hope to be back soon.
I've been on writing.com for six or seven months and I absolutely love it. The community is engaging, people are kind, and opinions are respected, unless it's harmful to anyone. It's an incredible site for writers and I would absolutely recommend it.
Thank you, Miranda!
I've been homeless many times, and had to throw away my writing because I only had physical copies of it. Now that I have a membership at Writing.com, I can store my writing as I work on it, and if I move, I don't have to worry about carrying physical copies of my work with me.
The staff are helpful, I've been a member off and on since 2000. It's a real community, with people who are creating stories and sharing their work and their positivity.
The site is a safe space for exploring your creativity and expanding your writing skills. There are members with diverse interests and there is a niche for everyone. It is a good place to find like-minded people even if your mind is like no other.
Thank you, Pamela!
I have never seen such a great arrangement of writers and customer service all at once. Before I had the good fortune to come across writing.com, I have always felt either the lack of good writers or the lack of good customer service. They undoubtedly bridge this gap for me.
Thanks for your kind words!:-)
Writin.com is one of the best site I've ever come across and undoubtedly one on the best sites writing sites out there. Really friendly community, fair critiques, and so many aspiring stories make it an awesome place! You might think it's boring, because its just a writing site, but there are so many things to do: writing and non-writing tasks- that it's really addicting. You MUST check it out, even if you ain't an aspiring writer. It's the closest thing to an ideal world in my view.
Thank you, Moksha!
Writing.com is a very enjoyable social site for writers. There are lots of contests, writing prompts, specified clubs and of course, things to read written by other members. I am currently an upgraded member.
This site has provide a vibrant and continuous flow of ideas, prompts, suggestion and opportunities for writers both young and old to critique each other. Gain exposure by sharing works. It's a natural beta reader site, as anyone can post, receive reviews and experience how their work will be received.
Thanks! We appreciate your kind words.:-)
I've been a member for nine years now, and I can't see any reason as to why I would stop. From the beginning I was met by (mostly) constructive criticism of, help with and support in my literary pursuits. The site is full of contests, niche groups and workshops all geared towards making the budding writer feel welcome and improving their writing skills.
Are you a writer? A poet? Do you enjoy fiction of a particular genre and looking for examples of works to read? All the above?
Then Writing.Com may be for you. With over a Million members, I thought I'd give this site a try. Now two years later, I've found not only a spot which provides valued feedback on my writing but a community which allowed my talent to grow. Offering contests of every flavor, writer's reviews, prompts, and much more, Writing.com is everything you'll need to expand your ability and find a community of like-minded, helpful individuals.
Whether you have been writing prose or poetry for years, or are just starting out, Writing.Com has the best tool to help you improve. Constructive reviews by others who are also learning. Yes there are some extremely competent and noted writers on this site and their guidance is invaluable. Also, you can read and review other peoples writings, because regardless of your writing experience, you know what you enjoy reading. There are fun competitions for those who like a challenge and you get to set you own degree of privacy or social interaction. Can highly recommend to any budding poet or author. Just one warning, you will enjoy it so much, you won't have time for facebook or twitter lol.
Real people from all over the world come together to share their dreams. How can that not be good? It is free to join, but worth the money to upgrade when ready. I have been a member for several years and love it!
This site has been a haven for me, my home away from home. I have been afforded opportunity to meet some wonderful folks, write stories, poetry or whatever I felt at the time and receive reviews as well as give reviews of others works. I have had fun through the activities they offer and felt apart of something much bigger than you or I. It is a good feeling to know you can honestly share your thoughts about someone's writing and encourage them to continue. Others have done as much for me, a new writer, for which I am ever grateful. Writing.com has been nothing but a PLUS in my life, and I'm so glad I found it! Linda
It seems some people have had bad experiences with Writing.com. While I've had one or two bad reviews on my stories, the positive aspects of this community have far outweighed the potentially negative ones. On this website I've found a friendly, helpful, and caring group of people who are genuinely interested in improving and helping others improve. I've received invaluable advice that's helped my poetry and fiction. The site's owners and moderators are easy to get in touch with and helpful. And I happen to like the "outdated" layout and look.
Yes, you do get more reviews when you first sign up. After that, there are countless other ways (available to all levels of members) to receive quality reviews. I have never felt like a contest was rigged, and I've entered plenty. I've also never noticed any snobbery on the parts of paid and / or higher level members. Your experience is what you make it, and I've had a fantastic one.
So long as you are interested in writing as a whole, I think this site would offer a fairly nice experience. It has a competent set-up and more or less allows for any type of writing, regardless of genre or maturity, so long as you've marked it correctly. If I had to mention an issue I have it would be the minimum ways of commenting on something. The only means are through either reviews or personal messages, which whilst they may let you get your message across, leave a bit to be desired.
Answer: The simplest and most honest answer to this is simply that we, as a site that allows authors to post work, can not possibly stop someone from copying something they've read online and trying to use it as their own. The question you have to ask yourself, more so, is whether or not that's likely to happen. If you feel your work is up to the level that someone could just take it and get it published -- then certainly you should not be joining a writing community to improve your skills -- you should instead be out getting your work published. From our 15 years of experience, having had tens of thousands of authors post work to Writing.Com, we've never heard from anyone that their work has been stolen from our site and published by someone else. I hope this answer helps!
Answer: Sure, that is interesting!:-) You can certainly write about anything that is interesting to you.:-)
Answer: It hasn't been down at all, so this is a difficult question to answer.:-)
Answer: Hello, If I'm understanding the question... you're asking about benefits of our Preferred Author promotion? You are correct in that promotion is recognition within the community more than anything else. There are some ancillary benefits, such as message forums and activities available only to certain portfolio levels, plus certain times where we request the input and/or participation of higher levels within the community. Our Moderators are only chosen from well established Preferred Authors. In addition, higher portfolio levels earn an increased number of Gift Points for logging in each day. Answer: Hello, No, we do not have with "landing pages". It sounds like you're looking for a search engine placement company and that's not what we are. Good luck!
Answer: The answer is 0. Spending has nothing to do with promotions on Writing.Com. The qualifications for promotion include reviewing and interaction on the site, along with minimum amounts of time on the site. The full qualifications are listed in "Writing.Com 101" which is linked from the top of each page. Promotions are made manually, however... and Writing.Com is a literal "Mom and Pop shop" -- two people. Active members in our community also know that our 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia the first week of September, so they know that this type of manual promotion is not something we have time to take care of right now. We'll be back to it as we work through and manage our family health issues.
