The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. While a few customers express occasional satisfaction with specific transactions, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a lack of accountability and professionalism. This has resulted in a growing number of users opting for alternative platforms, indicating a critical need for improvement in service quality and responsiveness.

We rented a supposedly immaculate house up in North Carolina- called the Cider House-propety # #*******
look it up- beautiful pics, but absolutely deceiving- says it sleeps 14, sleeps 10 very uncomfortably- "well stocked kitchen" what a joke- broken pot-1,2 broken pans, miscellaneous silverware, Obviously owners went to a swap meet. 30" fridge, should be in the garage. Stove- need to light with a match- dangerous. Upstairs shower/sink will not drain, then the owner shows up mid-week to work on his house and back barns!
VRBO refuses to help. Owners property manager refuses to help. Plenty of other great vacation homes, use AirBnB. Good luck!
Do not trust booking safely through them.
They allows property owners to continue scamming renter and allow others to book with them again and again. They would not let me leave review on property.
My wife booked through VRBO months ago Sept 2021, cancelled two days later for a trip in March 2022. Hose, Eunice Jones will not refund or even reply. VRBO will not help at all as the non-refund policy was checked by host. Yet, on their site it shows clearly as REFUNDABLE. HOW CAN WE GET OUR $1,500 BACK? THIS IS ON THE VRBO SITE! "VRBO allows very limited cancellation policies, including no refund, which is the only canned option I can choose. My cancellation policy is that reservations canceled no later than 30 days before check in are refunded the deposit less credit card fees. All rental agreement terms are listed in this description"
Our first experience with VRBO was our last. We had a serious problem with the place that we rented. I called VRBO for help. The reps were all from the Philipines and were very polite and seemed sympathetic, writing down what I explained to advance the problem to someone with authority. NO ONE ever called back. I called again but to no avail. We had to leave the property as soon as we arrived late at night, to find a hotel. The last-minute rates to find a place to stay were either sky high or had no availability. We ended up 53 miles away! We lost all of our money for 3 nights. I wrote two emails to VRBO and they NEVER responded! This is not a company you want to use for vacation plans.
I came down with Covid - property owner agreed to refund my money. VRBO would not refund. Property owner called VRBO and VRBO collected fees and taxes from owner and I only rec'd a 50% refund from property owner. Disgusted that VRBO treats property owners and vacationers this way. I recommend going to direct and not thur VRBO.com. This is my 2nd bad experience - there will not be a 3rd!
It took 3 months and countless emails, phone calls and hours of our time to get thousands of dollars refunded to our account, VRBO sent the funds incorrectly to the wrong bank account, They claim it was a glitch in their system, we can understand the mistake, but to take no responsibility or show no effort is poor business practice. Their 800 customer service number is worthless!
The worst experience I have ever had renting from a company. Vrbo did nothing to remedy the situation, they don't care about their renters at all. NEVER rent from their site, Air BnB is 100x the site.
We booked and fully paid for a unit at Rainbow Condos in North Ocean City. Two days before check-in called to notify VRBO that my mother had gone into hospice, and was expected to (and did) die during our vacation week. The response was that there are absolutely no refunds. We understood the policy but were requesting some small concession in light of the unforeseeable circumstances and in the interest of future business - a partial refund, future discount, or change of date to a less popular week. Instead, management insisted that they were justified in keeping every penny of our $1,768, including cleaning and processing fees, even though we never occupied the premises. We had very much anticipated a stay at what looks like a beautiful property and would have loved to book again in the future, but the company's rigid and unsympathetic stance made this impossible. We very much regret having booked with VRBO. When we attempted to post this review to their site they refused to publish it. We booked our new trip with Vacasa and were very pleased with them.
Don't do it! The trash that rents from VRBO will do exactly that, trash your home and nothing VRBO will do to help you. Even if you put things in your policy and guest break rules, they won't cover anything. Save yourself the headaches.
VRBO is a SCAM. Would stay away at all costs. The owner can charge you whatever they want i. E. if there is damage for a 5$ doorknob. The owner can charge you whatever they want and you will be charged. This literally happened to us, and we had a 500$ bill. No receipts, nothing and so now we have our credit card company fighting with VRBO on this. Avoid VRBO and Homeaway/Expedia at all costs. (they are all the same company)
I've used bedandbreakfast.com several times on trips to Europe. My accommodations were always fine, though varied in specifics, from standard hotel-type room to room in family dwelling. All the descriptions were accurate, though sometimes details were left out. This service doesn't gouge bnb-owners like Tripadvisor, nor surveil like monopolists like Facebook.
HOST CANCELLED 2 DAYS PRIOR TO MY 2 WEEK TRIP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE GUARANTEE DID NOT APPLY AND WERE NOT HELPFUL AS ADVERTISED. THEY ONLY FOUND ME PLACES THAT WERE DOUBLE AND TRIPLE THE PRICE. REMEMBER YOU BOOK WITH ZERO CONFIDENCE WITH THIS COMPANY. FURTHER, THEY ARE NOT BASED IN THE USA SO THEY ARE NOT HELD TO THEIR CLAIMS.
After booking a reservation on a cabin and getting a confirmation with a nearly $2000 1st payment to my credit card I was shocked that 20 minutes later the reservation was cancelled. Okay, sometimes things happen like a double booking or something but surely they should be able to immediately process a refund right? WRONG!,,
Two weeks later I still do not have all my money refunded due to a "Glitch" in their system as per the customer service person I talked to. These people are nothing but scammers who use other peoples money to make it look like they are doing good business. DO NOT Under any circumstances use Vrbo to book a property!
You will surely regret it and not be able to enjoy yourself on vacation knowing you fell victim to these $#*!s.
Do Not list your rental property with these $#*!s or you will soon look like an $#*! too! Stay away!
Do not book through them! It's a scam, the house cancelled right away but vrbo kept the fee and now won't email or respond. They state if host cancels they return the fee but they lie!
Via website and customer support call i asked for my personal banking details to be replaced with business banking details. They are unable to ever delete previous banking details. Why in any moral situation would they need that information when I have explicitly requested it be removed and replaced. So shady. Cancelled my hosting account immediately. Not worth the risk.
I used VRBO for a weekend trip. I have used VRBO before and have had no issues until this time. When I booked this trip I wasn't notified that they use 3rd / 4th party companies. I was not able to get in touch with anyone for access code or if I could check in earlier than 4pm, without calling vrbo directly. I also noticed that an additional $500.00 was charged for "Service" fees. ( of course the 2 additional companies need to get a "cut") when I reached out to VRBO after returning home. I was on hold for about 40m, when the rep rudely told me they cany do anything to help me. When I asked to speak to a manager they said management doesn't get involved. I am basically at VRBOs mercy hoping I do not get charged for any additional fees after the fact.
I don't recommend using this app, if someone in your family gets sick or something happens you simply lost all your money, two of my children tested positive for COVID-19 I sent a message and nothing was done I just lost my money
Every December 27th -January 1 I take my family on vacation. This year I took them to Dolphin Island. I was not familiar with the area so my daughter and me decided to go through Vrbo! The first thing I noticed was their add said " book with confidence " bad mistake to say the least. Our condo which was beautiful at first site ended up being a nightmare. The 1st bedroom with bath was the bed skirt was torn. Roaches the toilet would not flush! Tv would not work in this room at all. Living room the tile on the fireplace was broken! In the down stairs master bedroom there was missing pieces off the king size bed broken off etc. the door in the master bathroom was broken were you felt you were going to fall through the floor. Also in the shower area! Mold in shower. I could not believe the whole place was a mess. Called rental company several times with NO answer to any of the problems! Can not believe Vrbo had its name attached to this without checking without checking property out. Will NOT trust y'all again.
I had to cancel a booking that i had fully paid for due to Covid 19 and the owner would not refund me any money. The owner rebooked the property and did not loose any money and she told me that Vrbo will take a fee from her even though she got paid twice which means VRBO profited from my cancellation. I have sent emails but no response from VRBO.
I will never use VRBO again as they will not help you if something goes wrong.
I booked a motel stay on VRBO for a myrtle beach motel. Blue Palmetto/Court Capri. This was absolutely the nastiest room I have ever seen. I could not stay there, I was scared to death! This was a flop house trash hole. When I contacted VRBO they did NOTHING to help me! They would not give my money back, 2700. 00. All they said to me was "I'm sorry". I have used vrbo quiet a few times in the past. I will NEVER use them again! They don't care what the property looks like. Just want your money. No cares about the customer just take their money and run. Never again VRBO
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO provides vacation rental listings by owner in the US and around the world.
