Direct express hires illegals to take calls. I called in spoke with man who didn't understand English, he asked me 4 times for my social security number as if he was writing it down. They don't even need my social security number because i called in using my verified phone number. He then wants my DOB and all other peeps info including my PIN number! Why are illlegals getting Americans social & DOB? No other bank ask that when calling in. After I told the man no he got angry and hung up on me. I tried to report the suspicious behavior to the next agent was a Mexican lady who spoke broken English too and hung up on me. They just lost another class action lawsuit all the theft is internal.

Lack of customer service
December 13, 2024

My card was frozen, stated the card status was invalid. So, I called...sat on hold 40 min. Hung up and tried and hour later and waited on hold for over 1 hour and 15 min before hanging up. This is m third attempt and already it's been 25 min. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm certain they are just checking if the charges on my card is legit. This happens frequently. It would be nice if I could just spend my money how I see fit without going thru this. It's time to connect my Social Security funds to my bank account. Worst card service company I've ever worked with.

I was on the phone with customer SVC., and the Rep repeatedly tried to rush me off the phone. I believe in general that elderly is negatively-treated all across the board. Also the Scammers target the elderly.
Dir Exp needs to have more patience with elderly.

If they are being sued for committing fraud and a whole bunch of other things as well as things that they do that are not even included in the report of the lawsuit and continue to do to people, why have they not been either shut down or disconnected from people's ssi/ssdi and a better replacement put into it's place? Why have they been allowed to continue to rob and abuse people is beyond my brain's comprehension. I saw on another person's review that direct express asked for their I. D which is fraudulent behavior on d. E's part. SSA knows who each person is, they are vetted when they are signed up for direct express. Another person said they were asked for both I. D and birth certificate. Please people, do not give either of these things to direct express. After they ask for either of those, it's a definite sign to cut ties with direct express. We all know they never asked for these in the past for verification because they don't need them and they are not entitled to them, they are not even suppose to ask for such things. The things they ask for verification just to speak with them is enough. Some people would parrot the patriot act but this literally doesn't apply. The SSA knows who you are. They tried to b. S me that I failed verification questions and that's why they need my I.D. It's literally impossible to fail verifications if you are the account holder. The other review I read said they sent their I. D six times to no avail. Of course it didn't work because they are not trying to help you with your account/card they are trying to steal your identity. I went years before they asked for I. D or birth certificate and there was never any issues. Now all of a sudden they want those things. Why? Because that's the last pieces of the puzzle to fully commit identity theft against you. Please do yourself a favor, when they ask for either of those two things. Clean the card out if you can (that's some of the theft they are committing is taking the money from accounts people can't get access to because they are holding the account hostage and the more you play into their game the more money ends up on the card and away from you, ssa can't help people most of the time and they their is a reason d. E was sued because ssa could not ignore what people were telling them about what d. E. is doing to people), turn it off or stop using it and find a card that is not being or hasn't been sued for robbing the disabled, poor and seniors of their money and identity. ( So that also means steer clear of bank of america and wells fargo) They were sued, that's a start, if enough people stop using their cards we can get rid of them. Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives that are committed to the financial success of the individuals, families, and communities they serve. You safest option is a local credit union.

Their platform promises attractive returns, but it's all smoke and mirrors.

I strongly advise against getting involved with Direct Express, as my experience suggests they are operating as a scam. Be cautious, as engaging with them could lead to financial loss and other negative outcomes. I was able to recover my money, but it was only possible through external assistance. (I used their website URL as my display name and profile picture on this review in case anyone needs help or wants to reach out for support).

Note: Due to the strict policy here, I'm sharing this purely to help others recover their funds.

I am disabled and live on my social security.I deposited my check and within 5 days was hacked for over 750$.Have contacted bank numerous times to explain that I am in a wheelchair and on8ltrs 0/2 could not have been in these restaurants if I wanted too.to be continued.bottom line.useless,no customer service,unprofessional.RUN!

DE (Direct Express) caused me to be homeless. They destroyed my life. They steal and lie and they're very unhelpful. They blocked my funds and refused to send me a card or unblock them. They're hard to get a hold of and IF by chance they are available, they're hateful and mean. They don't know wtf they're doing. They rudely told me to send by email all this ID crap which I did...SIX TIMES! Still it wasn't enough. I think they're doing this on purpose just so they can steal people's identities. Everyone who has complained about DE said they never accept the IDs. Anyway, I'm sleeping under a bridge every night because of them. Sometimes I sleep in the woods. Last night I had to sleep at the park because someone got arrested under the bridge. DE will ruin lives. They're lazy greedy scum bags who treat people like trash. All they care about is hurrying up and getting off the phone. But now here I am. Sitting at the park at 10:00pm. They're gonna close and I gotta go back to the bridge before I get arrested I hope DE gets shut down forever.

Direct express does not care about their customers and since it's dealing with social security they just don't care or help if you have a problem. They should be shut down. Now if everyone cancel their card they would be out of business because that's a useless business

Locked debit card

Customer service is the ABSOLUTE WORST they ask for ID & birth certificate we sent that and they still had a problem on their end with the last four digits which I resent their CSR are very impatient they don't explain the necessities my father is a 76 year old vision impaired senior how do they expect him to know how to navigate though a computer to send emails and answers questions is unbeknownst to me as soon as his card is unlocked we will not ever use their service or recommend it to anyone THIS COMPANY IS PURE GARBAGE 👎🏽 also they don't deserve not one star

First they were very rude. They got mad when I got frustrated because I asked them why they can't verify me and instead of giving me a reason as to what else I needed to give all they said was "because I can't" wish I would've gotten the ladies name. I've been going through direct express for a few years now and I've never had a good customer service interaction. They're always rude and short. Tired of them acting like they get to be $#*!s just because we need help.

Worst company EVER

My brother is vision impaired and someone used his debit card without his permission. When we contacted the company they told him it was his fault because he gave someone his pin #. Again my brother is BLIND and needed help using his card. Even though the police are charging the person that stole his money Direct Express will not refund his money.

Useless

I have a card through direct Express that was given to me by the social security administration. That card got stolen, and despite verifying all of my (re: the card holder) information the woman I spoke too refused to issue a new card. Or even lock the old one. Useless.

A piece of $hit

Please don't get this crap it is dumb is asf, and apparently the people that work there doesn't know how to fix one $#*!ing Issue. The card was great a few years back until they started tweeting with it. Like how I'm I locked out of the $#*!ing mobile app and can't use this card until Tuesday. Because my card is locked, And if u wanna use it to get something on credit it doesn't allow it. This $#*! is trash. Then if u have more than one card on the account and u have it locked u better double check it before entering in that security code, cause it will put another card in and cause u to lock the card up. But u can bet ur bottom dollar on it I will not be dealing with them anymore. I don't even wanna give y'all a one star cause the crap trash

Direct express is the worst ever. Hold time more then 1-5 hours. They talk over you. Don't get help and hold on all day! I have now changed my account to chase! I don't recommend this card for no one! Run before you get fraud and can't do nothing about it! Like I did! Terrible terrible people and service!

This is the WORST company I've ever dealt with. They have all my money, and don't allow me to use it to pay any of my bills. Every time I try to pay for something, they block my card, and even after calling to identify myself, they refuse to unblock it. I spend hours at a time on the phone with them, and they change the rules every time. Trying to use the card in public always ends up in humiliation. When I ask why they're blocking me, they say that's not a question they have to answer. Want to spend 12 hours aggravated on the phone, just to pay one bill? Put your money here. I only wish there were zero stars, because they don't deserve even one.

Please no one use this card they make you hold for three to eight hours then hang up they will disconnect and hang up in your face I had no choice but to give them one star they don't deserve they need to close this company down and to think the government would use such bad people to do business with is a disgrace to our country what is this world coming to

I had 2 charges on my card I did not recognize in August 2023. I reported this and they had to shut my card down. They never sent me a replacement card, now it is September. I have bills to pay, my card is invalid, and I've been trying for 3 days and nights to get someone alive on the phone. The phone number says they're experiencing a large number of calls and to call back and then hangs up on you. Meanwhile my phone is going to get shut off in 2 days, I have rent. I have all kinds of bills to pay, I'm getting late charges these people are terrible.

New DE App limited

New Direct Express App only allows a few most recent transaction, unlike the older version which was much better. Unfortunately I deleted to old version App and can't get it back. I'm very disappointed.

100% scam. Period.

Card getting denied with no explanation, fight around for 20 minutes (on a prepaid phone) going through multiple mandatory messages, repeatedly told where to go in the menu to check balance which I don't need, finally get to "transferring you to a customer service agent" only to be told "We have a very high call volume, please call later." Up theirs, useless buggers

EDIT: 25 calls later, still nothing but the same response: "We're experiencing high call volume, call later." Utter thieving garbage and I can't access my money. There's a special place for companies like this.
