As an employer I have hired more than 10 freelancers on Odesk (now Upwork)- There are so many FAKE freelancers there!. There is no control from Upwork. I was interviewing a person for Voice over Artist. I wanted exclusively Canadian. All the people whom I approached and they claimed to be in Canada were FAKE.
Also recent disappointment. I hired an Arabic translator for a user manual. They guy puts the 12 page English manual in a software and spit out crappy Arabic translation and sends me out in 20 minutes... LOL. I refused to release the money in Escrow. Uprowk now claims that they have to write to freelancer and ask him to approve the refund! WTH is going on with you guys! Truly disappointed.
My experience has been a good one. I started freelancing through Upwork in 2010 and I've been working through them ever since. Life isn't perfect and neither is every client that is requesting work through this platform. You could be working for a large company, a small business, a busy professional, or even a college student. So, with that in mind I would consider who I agree to work for because someone requesting help on a one-time basis may not care about your feedback or theirs.
All was going well on Upwork, until a customer actually suggested working outside of the platform, I did not accept; however asked him further questions about the idea. Two days later I had my account terminated! What's worse is that the client only received a warning! I sent several pleas to Upwork all of which received a copy+paste response. So my livelihood destroyed with no warning or investigation!
Upwork is an online platform where freelancers meet their clients. In a nutshell, you will be sending proposals to projects that you think are within your skills. If the client hires you, then he will send the contract, and voila. You now have work!
Last year we suffered a social media PR attack by *******@Upwork #contractor demanding we change their rating to 5 stars. We begged Upwork numerous times, please do not force us to leave a review,@upwork refuses. If you don't want forced liability, don't use #Upwork
My wife convinced me that Upwork would be worth my time as a freelance writer and I was skeptical but gave it a shot. Now even she agrees that it is not worth the time. Not only are most of the jobs paying poverty wages, $3/hr in some cases, but the job success rating system is fatally flawed and they have shown no interest in fixing it. It's a horrible place to start and if you have ANY experience, it won't matter because of the way the site is designed. Stay away.
The best part about upwork is that they don't just cater to the client, but have a ton of benefits for the freelancer as well! Insights, awards and super helpful job posting emails that get sent weekly. It's a super intuitive platform. Highly recommend.
Upwork is a great platform. I have tried some more platforms with similar business model, but their system of bidding was too complicated and you have to wait until bidding was finished, so it was absolutely unproductive from time point of view. In Upwork, I can get to an agreement with the client within minutes. My only displeasure with Upwork concerns pricing. 20 % provision seem to me a little bit steep.
For 2 1/2 years it has been fine. Evidently business is slow so now they are trying to extort more money from the contractors. That 'free' membership is no longer free. If you want to see how much competitors are bidding, you have to pay $10. They also said that companies would be identified by logos and individuals by photos. They are allowing companies from over seas to pass themselves off as individuals and accepting jobs that pay less than US minimum wage.
I've been using Upwork as a freelance writer for several months now, and I'm convinced there is no better platform for freelancers like me. I've been thrilled with the variety of jobs available, the ease of submitting proposals, and the tools Upwork provides to effectively manage your business.
As with any online platform, you should exercise a degree of caution when evaluating clients to work with--there are some who are likely less reliable than others. However, Upwork provides clear information on clients in the form of history and ratings. If you heed the warning signs, you can easily weed out the clients you would not want to work with.
All in all, Upwork is a fantastic platform and I highly recommend it!
My experience with Upwork is just awesome! They have created a new era on the outsourcing platforms. I found their professionalism. Their support very much qualified. Their website and App is super user friendly. Their finance is most secure and automatic. It is a world-class platform where you can build your shining carrier at the same time you may start dreaming to become an entrepreneur.
I like their mailing correspondence, communication, They are changing the global economy, They are giving value to the experience. If you are a skilled person you will get the freedom of the economy. A new story can be started from here
I will strongly suggest Upwork as this platform is brimming with opportunities and best of all, you can get the Long, Short term occupations effectively as it just relies upon the range of abilities you have. Incredible work environment.
Upwork provides a great platform for the clients to find great freelancers from all over the world, not just some specific country, which is a great thing they do. I have been working on Upwork for almost 6 years formally known as Odesk, and I have met so many clients and also some permanent clients.
Only one problem that can be fixed by Upwork, is that they always take the client's side in case of any dispute or problem with a project no matter if the client is wrong or right.
Other than that I love it and will continue to use it.
Thanks Upwork!
I have joined upwork since 2 months back, I tried to find clients but no success than after after two months i got one invitation from client, although that is not IT or technical task but I accepted and completed. Upwork system is very smooth, easy and supportive by all means. Success will come once you accept challenge, Become challenger like Upwork in this competitive market. Success is always yours.
In the last year, Upwork has become my way of living. It gave me job opportunities that are not even imaginable in my country, with a constant flow of new clients and old ones that come back, giving me not only economic security but also the chance to save money for a huge personal project.
Upwork has literally changed my life, what else is there to say?
Totally new to Upwork. I was looking to pick up some projects while I had some down time between some of my regular client work. I'm STUNNED at how little these clients are willing to pay! How is a $10(!) budget for *anything* even realistic? Was looking at one potential project and the client's "average hourly rate paid" is $7.73. I'd be better off working at McDonald's.
This site really the best site for freelancer after opening my account here within 7 days I get my first order it's every time provide me what should I need to do to make a right profile to getting job easily and Am so happy to part of Upwork family. If you a freelancer feel free to join.
This website helps scammers to steal your money, an Indian scammer scammed me and Upwork told me "we can't force him to refund you" can you believe this? What a joke!
Edit: After 4 months, I was able to get all of the money back after I opened a claim with my bank account.
Btw, PayPal didn't help me at all.
I have over 4 years working on Upwork with no issues, the platform is easy to use, there are new jobs available every 5 minutes, and it's easy to make money. The only thing I don't like is that they charge you the 20% of each project plus all your connects to find new ones, I find it unfair that they charge loyal long term contractors for every proposal we send, is basically there's no reward for your loyalty as a freelancer.
Upwork promotes mostly freelance work so those who wish to become a freelancer must have a certain set of skills that can be the common factor to be hired by clients. Upwork is also supportive with our work because of their online seminars which is important especially for students like me.
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
