I started on UpWork with nothing, really. This website helped me build my reputation from the scratch and now I am among the top rated service providers.
However, I take away one star because they added this new system of buying connects (a currency to submit proposals to clients), so new people with no reviews have no way of building a reputation without paying. For me it's okay now since I already have clients, but it's not as new-freelancers-friendly as it used to be.
Otherwise the site is reliable and provides great and responsive support for both freelancers and agencies.
I am honestly entering the world of freelancers and I want to publicize my work internationally and what better to do on this platform called Upwork. Everything is very organized, simple and unique. I hope to continue here for many years!
Upwork is one of the best platform to use and polish your skill with making money side by side.
Before starting as freelancer carrier, I was not good in neither verbal and written English communication nor good in speaking and listening.
Upwork provide platform to interact with clients from different regions to polish my work skills.
I highly recommend this platform to grow financially and skill wise as well.
I am a Technical Virtual Assistant specialized in Web Support. I have been working in Upwork for many years and getting paid. Even though there are bad clients but most of the clients I faced are good people. You have to be a very serious and professional freelancer to be successful here. If you complete your project in a timely manner and with accuracy, there will be lots of work with repeat clients.
I have been working in www.upwork.com for many years and, without a doubt, it is the perfect place for us self-employed workers to develop a career as freelancer as well as for anyone who needs a job done professionally, without having to invest in labor expenses; but also with an immense variety of services that you can hire. Upwork is my number one choice when offering my graphic design services.
Upwork is the perfect place to find interesting projects, good jobs, and nice clients without having to get out of bed :) I always loved working from home and I was extremely happy to find this platform a few years ago. For me, it was a chance to work with(and for) people and businesses from all over the world, which is awesome. I got paid every time for the accomplished projects and I improved my portfolio with cool projects. There's still room for improvement(for instance, when choosing milestones over hourly rates), but I am confident those will come in time.
Upwork is one of the popular freelance websites, with over more than 1.5 million clients. It offers a range of jobs from hourly to fixed projects, short-long term projects, and even entry-level to expert-level tasks.
This is seriously unfair and wrong part from their side. I wasted my precious time to build my profile, taking tests and without any fault from my side they suspended my account, I only submitted proposals to offers that I know I can do only, and upwork basically say "your fault that you didn't get chosen so piss off". Also they rejected my appeal after giving them all proofs, attached copies of relevant documents (diplomas, certificates, etc.) that verify that education, skill or experience.
To be honest, I am very disappointed and frustrated from this decision. Also become a big hater of Upwork from now.
It took me about 1 month to get my first job on Upwork and one month after I already had 6 contracts, 3 of them are long-term. It's easy to find clients, the payment system is very efficient, I get paid every Wednesday and their desktop app to track our hours works pretty well. I really recommend it! The only thing I think it's bad about it is the 20% they take from freelancers at the beginning with each client. I think it's a greedy move and it shouldn't be more than 10%.
This platform is horrible and a waste of time. I have worked there for a year, completed successfully about 10 projects and my clients gave me excellent feedback. However, way too many reports of suspended profiles with no reason and too little money left for you after you pay something like 30% in fees and taxes. What's more, should you have a problem, no one will give a s*** about it. Their support is the worst CS I have ever communicated with. Why do we pay 20% fee? Stopped using it in November.
I have been working on other freelancing sites as well, but I think Upwork tops all of them and is best platform for freelancer given it's friendly and helping nature towards sellers.
Thank you Upwork!
This very good portal with a lot of freelancers and employers!
You can find any job in any price. It's difficult for first time, but when you go deep -- it became easier.
Also, they have mobile application for Windows Phone (unofficial) and it was very useful for me.
Best regards,
Find your way to get jobs :)
I've been freelancing for over 15 years and was looking to expand my client base. So I tried Upwork. The fee paid is worth the security of finding new clients and and breaking into new areas of writing. I have found great clients needing many types of assistance. I have started with clients on their posted job, maybe a simple edit, and have expanded into handling many projects for them. The clients I have added to my business from Upwork are now long term relationships with ongoing work. It has taken a year to build this and the fees do reduce as more money is earned per client. I have never been denied an increase in rate from a client when I've asked, after providing them with a high valued work product.
Yet again, upwork.com taking advantage of it's freelancers. This time they limited my financial account because my employer, in LA, who I travelled to and met with and did their work, got limited. This got limited even AFTER the project was closed. This is very unprofessional and not able to continue working till this is resolved which could take weeks. They need to simply bite the bullet, go after these people and don't get us involved with it or have any payment delays.
I forgot my password and I cannot even log in for weeks because their web site is so poorly set up that it does not allow for password restore. It keeps cycling back to asking you for password. Even after I reported this via email I have not heard back from anyone.
Secondly, the categories are so poorly designed that it's almost impossible to find the 'right' category because they are so inflexible and they pigeon-hole you into 'IT' or 'non-IT'. For those who are adept in several fields, they almost get shut out of the right opportunities.
My gosh, just bring the odesk back. After the new upwork, it is way worse than the old one!
Good luck finding gigs. Don't waste your time here.
I have encountered two scams so far on the upwork.com platform for freelancers. One where I even even lost money because you want to believe that such platforms do adequate screening of clients and freelancers, alike. After my ordeal it was then I found sites such as sitejabber.com and even the upwork.com community blog section report cases of clients who are offering bogus work. Very disappointed as I am an individual who is honestly looking for legitimate work, willing to give her all. If this is also you, look elsewhere to showcase yours skills and look elsewhere for freelance work.
Dreadful company totally geared towards the clients rather than freelancers. They will suspend your account (especially if you have credit with them) with the excuse your skills don't match their clients enough... that could be the case with some people, but if you read the other reviews you will see it just ain't true for most.
$30 fee for transfers to bank accounts and 20% commission.
They don't have the balls to come to a site like this and address these issues because they know they're completely a sh%# company.
Give these guys a big miss and use Linkedin.
I started working on UpWork in 2017 even though I didn't know English. A friend of mine insisted and insisted telling me to try and don't give up. Over time, I have gained the trust of my clients and have built up a great reputation. At first it can be difficult and daunting, but if you persevere and commit yourself you can have great results, like all things on the other hand!
Thank you so much for your hard work behind this amazing platform
I am disgusted at Upwork.
I had been working as a freelancer for three months until a few weeks ago.
And after all, they suspended me without any reason.
I lost almost $350 overnight.
The worst thing is I lost clients with good relationship.
I tried to contact Upwork and asked to explain the reason several times, but they answered with silence.
Even they refused to explain clients what happened.
I am suspicious that Upwork feels lack of money and scams this way sometimes to resolve his economy.
If you think you are right, why can't you give me any reason until now?
I say again, "No Upwork Until Forever!"
Glad to have the opportunity to be implemented on an upwork.
Large pool of clients, with a variety of budgets and tasks.
In 3+ years I have never had any problems with the service.
Professional implementation, remote work, flexible schedule, choice of clients, without having to be distracted by finding them and other tasks not related to your professional skills.
Answer: They are horrible. Every freelancer I've gotten from Upwork has cost me more to fix the small job they have done. There's absolutely no customer service! I would stay away
Answer: This is not the place to inquire.
Answer: No, just 20% of your job when we talk about fixed price, and same for hourly but after some week it's been 10%
Answer: Go to Settings › Contact Info › Click the Close my account link. If you meet the requirements, click the button to confirm that you want to close your account.
Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
Answer: Because of their policy changes which are geared towards the client rather than the freelancer. They have dug their own grave with their policy changes of late.
Answer: Go to Get Paid on PC or Mobile, you will see 3 dots in front of your payment method, tap to select edit/remove to change them. Go to Billing Method on PC under Billing Section and tap three dots to change (edit/remove). Thanks
Answer: Be part and see, dont look at the sold mine reviews people, upwork can bush you to reach.
Answer: I agree with Sam. This place is a scam. They have bad reviews everywhere. Katrina is probably working for them!
Upwork has a rating of 2.3 stars from 2,122 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Upwork most frequently mention customer service, credit card and job success. Upwork ranks 7th among Freelancing sites.
