I've tried different freelancing and i got my first client in upwork... until now i only got client there even though im only beginners on freelancing upwork gave me so much opportunity to work from here since the start of the pandemic..
I started upwork almost 5 months back. Started working with a few clients, it made me financially independent, but it gave me a family as well, the clients became my family soon. Thanks for providing such a great platform to work on.
Upwork has been to thus date the best freelance website that I have ever been on. Its authentic client base, freelancers have a way to get fast and quality works done. As a freelancer working in accounting and finance, I love upwork.
I have almost 8 years of experience in IT and I created a profile on upwork. I was charging comparatively less as I was new to the freelancing business. After few proposals, the upwork has suspended my account forever stating that the skillset do not match. I have been working with various multinational companies and do not see a point here. The customer service is too bad.
Upwork fails to close contracts after a period of inactivity. If you forget to end a contract, then this contract can stay open indefinitely, which can result in what happened in my case. A freelancer fraudulently logged hours for a contract that was open and inactive for over a year. Since Upwork automatically withdraws from clients checking accounts, I was stuck paying for the fraudulent hours. I was scammed out of $700.00. Upwork is as much to blame as the fraudulent freelancer. They should have had safeguards in place to automatically freeze, close, or end contracts after a period of inactivity. All I got from Upwork was an apology and $100.00 credit. Moral of this story... keenly monitor your contracts and always close them because Upwork is riddled with fraudulent freelancers.
I found some of the best clients in this market place. I think the fee of 20% at the beginning fo the contract is a bit too much but after $500 it becomes 10% which I think ok as they provide one of the best technique to guarantee freelancers money. I never felt that I may not get paid in Upwork. Also, I am not a fan new bidding system I think it make it hard for a new freelancer to join Upwork. Otherwise, I think Upwork is the best freelancing platform out there especially for long term jobs and they have the best environment for the freelancer who knows what they're doing.
I was with Upwork for 9 years and I have no major issues with them. They have help me move up and live a better life compared to those days were I was still working in an office.
Upwork help me both financially and professionally. I learned so much things and variety of skillsets because I have the leeway to do it while I am helping my clients from Upwork.

Upwork is unique in providing work and how to maintain customer assurance for both parties, and this distinguishes it from other sites similar to it in providing this service. I recommend using it to meet any work you want, provided that it ends under independent clients of the highest quality.
A employer hired me to do a job and then bailed on the project. I was doing decent business until I get hired for a project by what I think was a scammer. I tried to contact this individual for months to no effect. Instead of helping me, Elance suspended my account and then after "their review" say that their decision is final. There are several other freelancer sites that have a much better rating and customer service... use Elance and in the end, they will screw you over too.
This website is absolutely awful. I must admit the way they set it up isn't bad.It is easy to navigate, but holy crap the freelancers on this website are terrible. I have only done one project on this website and it was a disaster. I asked the first guy I hired to make a cartoon Donald Trump. I thought the design was great until I found out he took the image straight off google images. Then I asked to make a cartoon Hillary Clinton and he absolutely butchered that. It took him for times to actually make the revision I asked for then when I asked to add something he wouldn't do it because he said his design looks more professional. So I fired him. Next I hired someone for the same project and it took 4 days to get any kind of update from him. My work was still not complete. 3 days later still no design. And to top things off the website goes down for at least 2-3 days a week... THIS WEBSITE SUCKS!
I have been on Freelancer for several months, looking for incremental business. Each time that I apply for a job, Freelancer requires that I take an exam, e.g., math, English, etc. All exams requires that I pay a fee. I have been a bookkeeper and tax preparer for over 10 years and decided that this site is not what purports to be. I have since removed myself from this site and would not recommend it to anyone. It's too bad, because the concept is good.
Here you can really find interesting work and responsible intellectual clients.
To be successful here, you only need to be responsible for your words.

Have not been disappointed on the upwork platform, they are very professional, attentive and you can be assured that client will pay you. Having a contract before starting a job it's an amazing idea, upwork transparency it's on another level. Have never had such a confidence on an online platform like upwork. I found assurity and security and final confidence to work on that platform.
They haven't a clue about business structures outside the US and make you jump through so many hoops for a paltry rate that it really isn't worth the effort. They don't understand that a Limited Company is a legal entity or that all freelancers aren't sole traders.

Upwork is easy to navigate and provides credible info on companies that are looking for help. I highly recommend it to consultants and freelancers.
As a contractor I have lost hundreds of dollars when the freelancer disappeared.
And as a freelancer I did not receive their help in recuperating money from a contractor I worked for.
Sh*t customer service, no safety provided but damn do they ever forget to charge their big commisions? Never!
They blocked files from being downloaded from my freelancer, then totally failed in their attempt to make them available, causing me to miss my deadline. They hide the support chat between time wasting worthless FAQs and a labyrinth of crap. They detracted from the interaction and got paid for it.
Upwork is a great place to work as a freelancer if you are looking for projects. In recent months they have updated their working conditions and it has improved a lot in relation to other years. Everything is pointed and armed so that you can work and receive more and more jobs.
I worked on upwork with over 1 year and always tried my best to satisfy my clients.
But they suddenly blocked me without any reason.
I tried my best to recover my account but they simply told that there are too many scammers in Asia.
I can't stand!

Answer: I am a customer and have had a really horrible experience. Upwork claims a 100% guarantee before you pay anything. That is not true. The process is actually quite horrible. You put money in escrow. You only get your money back after a bad contract if the freelancer agrees to release the money. If the freelancer refuses, you get a bargain offer to still pay them something but still you are paying for a bad job you can't use. Then, if you refuse to bargain over a bad job, you are told that it will cost you an additional $389 to arbitrate with a 3rd party affiliate that the customer (me), the freelancer (scammer) and Upwork (ripoff enabler) has to pay. I took it all the way to arbitration with the end result being that Upwork decided that I was just too uninformed to know their policy and that they would give me a one time only refund of my original amount. What they didn't tell me what that they just gave me a "credit" of my original amount and that was the end. So I am still out the original amount and can't get my money back. This sight is a ripoff. Plain and simple.
