I ordered and paid the price for a 4-5ft tall tree seedling. Once it is arrived, it is exactly 3ft tall because they cut it into 3ft. So called, to fit together with another 3-4ft seedling tree I ordered, and to fit them in a narrow box. BUT I paid $34.75 to buy a 4-5 feet tall tree, what is the point to get a 3ft only. If I buy a 3-4ft tall one, it is $24.75, $10 less. If they want to save their money for shipping, they should not cheating customers for the 4-5ft tall price, and should refund $10 for the true 3-4ft price. In addition, this seedling has only two main branches, and both of them were cut, the tree will not be grown as it was because it has to grow the very small branches sideway, and it WILL NOT have a main straight tree trunk. The customer service woman was full of excuses and trying to protect their business hardly. She said they have order agreement, and I agree it. So, please read agreement before you buy. It is NOT an honest and reputable business from consumer point of view. I am very disappointed and will return the two trees, and can get 80% money back.
Not just the worst nursery I have ever dealt with in my 69 years, the absolute WORST COMPANY I have ever run into. If my order is any indication, their plants are shipped without the slightest regard as to whether they might be dead or dying.
Ordered two (2) Concord Seedless grapes for a yard arbor and a Premier Blueberry to fill out a specimen garden I started in 2020. The blueberry was in horrible condition and I did not think it would live till fall. At this point it's barely hanging on, but don't see how it will survive the winter. One of the Concord grapes root stock arrived stone dead. I worked around table grapes in the industry for 35 years and I know a dead grape root stock when I see one. I called Ty Ty who assured me 'all root stock look dead when they arrive'. I told them the cambium layer was cooked from mishandling, but no... they said I had to plant it first. So everything went into the carefully prepared beds. The one Concord leafed out inside two weeks and looked OK. The dead one well... was dead. So I called them back, was given another run around and insisted on speaking to the manager. I was told to take scraping of the main stem and a lateral to show the dead cambium layer and send photos. I did so. Well, now they were going to get me a new grape. NOT. I was issued a 'credit'. So, I prepared to order the new grape but no... now it was 'too late in the year'. Next convenient shipping date? The dead of winter January 2023. So in September 2022 I decided to order the grape early to avoid being sent another piece of dead kindling. I went in to order and apply my credit but again, the fix was in. I couldn't use my $31 credit... I had to spend at LEAST $40 to check out. Then of course there was the $20 shipping fee and tax... making the invoice to replace my dead grape EQUAL to the original invoice for all three plants.
These people will take advantage of you in every way possible in my opinion. They work the system like con artists and absolutely will NOT lose a dime regardless of whether they send you dead plants or not. How they get good reviews is beyond my comprehension. I encountered incompetence, poor quality products and outright deception at every incredibly irritating step of the process and will end up having spent almost $70 for one dead plant and two that appear on their last legs. AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH TY TY AT ALL COST.
I ordered two Hardy Almond trees in Mid-may 2022. The trees were shipped via UPS, and took 5 days from the notice of shipment to delivery at my home. During this time, we had a heat wave across the area from the nursery to where I live. The trees were shipped bare-root, with no water-saving gel or plastic or anything to protect them. They arrived dried out, and dead. I spent 3 weeks with their CSRs (sending photos, etc.) while the CSRs tried to blame me for the trees arriving dead. I even planted them to see whether they'd survive, but they didn't. The CSRs continued to blame me for the dead trees, offered no warranty coverage, and said that since I'd sent the dead plants to compost, there was nothing more to prove my claim. THEY ARE A TERRIBLE COMPANY. Buy from Burpee, Starks, Proven Winners, etc. This company is a ripoff. ($85 spent, including shipping, for two dead trees!)
Edit: (June 8,2022) after an email from the current claimed owner, Ryan Phillips, who provided me with a direct contact number *******252 Ext. 34 and *******062 (Direct), I received a *total refund*, including shipping costs. I don't have enough other information to determine whether this (newer) ownder seems to really want to improve this company's reputation and opearation, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Note that, before this happened, I not only provided negative reviews on Google and Yelp, but I also filed a complaint with the BBB, and a PayPal refund request.
Despite the resolution of my complaint, I'd still recommend that buyers beware. There are still a lot of pretty recent reviews that suggest that this company has still not learned much, that they still are sending out low-quality (or dead) plants, and that they have not learned how to ship product so that it survives the trip, to arrive at the buyer in good condition. I hope that the current owner learns how to do this, because their product selection is awesome, but receiving dead plants is the opposite of awesome.
Answer: I found them to definitely be a legitimate business.
Answer: I'd say "good". Much better if you call rather than send an email or communicate through the website.
