Last month I found 3 tutors from this site, however one was unresponsive, so I contacted support and was offered another tutors details instead or a refund. After changing one tutor, i've found all 3 to be excellent. My only complaint was no discount was offered on multiple purchases. I'm unsure why as I can't be the only one seeking more than one tutor.
I found this an excellent site, I wanted a tutor for my 10 year old granddaughter to assist her in final year at primary school. I was given a choice of about 6 tutors in local area and a chance to to exchange as many messages as I needed to find the best tutor. After I made the payment to TutorHunt, I received the tutor's contact details within minutes and the lesson is booked.
I have been registered with Tutorhunt (as a tutor) for over a year. They were very thorough in checking my details and qualifications, so students can be confident that the tutor is genuine and qualified to teach the subjects advertised. My experience over the last year has been very positive and most of the students that I tutor, found me through this site. I would definitely recommend Tutorhunt to tutors and students alike.
Tutor Hunt is easy to use and helps your search for a tutor. I would say it's early to discuss the outcomes of the tuition we've had but the fact that our son is happy to go and is enjoying the learning it seems very positive.
I've found Tutorhunt to be brilliant.
I dont really understand other peoples issues... You're reviewing the tutor here, not the service of Tutorhunt getting you the tutor.
Tutorhunt is used to FIND a tutor, they dont specifically supply them. Its upto you to look through their utors, pick one with a good review (And first lesson free to counteract the cost of buying their details) and then off you go.
If you had a bad tutor, then its the tutors fault, not tutorhunt.
Pro tip, pick only qualified teachers to get a better chance of a good tutor. They have reviews with their profiles also:)
I had an amazing experience
Service we have experienced has been very good - Our tutor is very professional and thorough. Our son is looking forward to seeing him next week. Thank you very much!
This site used to be fair, taking a reasonable about of commission for their service.
Now, not only do they not give the option to pay a one-off finders' fee, but the commission on each lesson is extortionate. My own situation is that I charge £30 a lesson and Tutor Hunt charge students and parents another £15 on top of this, so they are now paying £45 for a £30 lesson.
As a GCSE tutor, I work with students on a long term basis, which can really increase their costs. The worst thing is I can't tell parents about the commission and Tutor Hunt make it appear as though I am charging £45.
They have become greedy and exploitative and I would recommed parents, students and tutors to go elsewhere.
So disappointed to write this revew after working a few years for tutor hunt and being very happy. Like practically everyone else I have had hardly any enquiries since they decided to charge 25% for every lesson. I have spoken to them but they were quite adamant that most tutors were in favour of the new system. These reviews tell a completely different story!
I would seroiusly advise them to go back to their original system where students paid £25 for a tutor's contact details. For example if a student was ill or had a shift change they sent me a text whereas if you are ill it is so much more hassle to log on and send an Email.
I hope you have read and are taking note Tutor Hunt as there are so many more sites available now
I have been a tutot on this site for years. I met many clients and agents this way. However, in the past year, this site has been managed in a very different way. They now charge tutors for a premium membership but give nothing in return. I have been a well-liked tutor and have had plenty of 5 star reviews for 20 years but during this past year got 0 clients from this site. They charged for a DBS and, despite paying upfront, they gave nothing in return. I sent a polite complaint letter weeks ago and did not even got an ackowledgemen from this site. On top of all this, they now take a big cut from tutors too, making the prices so much less accessible to clients. Either the clients suffers or the tutor suffers. Either way, this is unfair and it is no longer the high quality site it once was.
Twice bought details and still no tutor.
Illness, flu, emergency lectures, free but not today, don't turn up... etc
The list goes on. £50 spent and still no help... and LOTS of time messing around.
Very poor site... messages do not appear when posted. Some only the next day... too late!
So save your money and time... go somewhere else. Gumtree local perhaps... you can just call the tutor.
This company takes your money, you get a tutor who turns up once or can't teach the subject and you are left with no tutor and it has cost you £25 introduction fee. Goodness knows what you are paying for. They ignore all emails and messages, other than sending automated emails but no-one will talk to you. I don't believe there is anyone there at this business, it is an online scam. Find a tutor through word of mouth or locally. Beware, you have been warned.
Tutor Hunt
I would suggest that for unsuspecting future tutors and especially for the students who express an interest in their services - you make your procedure clearer/ more transparent on your website. In other words that you, Tutor Hunt:
- add commission on each and every lesson (in my case 25%)
- do not allow initial meetings to take place free-of-charge
- expect a series of lessons to be booked in advance before the student/tutor have even met.
I am truly shocked by my experience and have requested that my account be deleted.
Mixed feelings. We found 2 tutors for my son. One has proved to be excellent and cannot fault him.
The other not so good. Turned up for the 1st half a dozen lessons, then started to make excuses then stopped communicating and turning up all together.
Would really help that when they behave like this that they should be taken of the register so they prevent from doing this to other pupils who appoint them in good faith and begin to rely on them and be dropped without any reason or warning.
I have been a tutor on Tutor Hunt for 5 years and gained many leads from them. However, at the end of last year I got a notification of a change to the terms and was told that I would be charged 25% commission for every student gained. It appears that this is unjust as the commission service is only applicable to new tutors who signed up in 2019 onwards. I am now stuck on a high fee and will probably get no leads and have to go elsewhere.
To top it off Tutor Hunt don't bother replying to support emails and they can't even pick up the phone to remedy the situation! Appalling treatment, avoid at all costs!
Firstly I would like to say I am sure this site is legitimate and there are genuine tutors willing to help. However my daughters experience has been far from positive as the tutor which I paid a fee of £23 for has no subject knowledge of what we require (this was not brought to light before we purchased their details). Following a rather unusual phone call the tutor has now sent an abusive email. I fear this is instead of admitting lack of subject knowledge. As a result I would say stay away from this site, however this could be an isolated incident.
I'm tutor on tutor hunt. From my experience with them, I can say that many students who contacted me via TH mailing system did not continue with buying my contact details.
That is, Students don't buy tutors details due to the high buying fees. It would be beneficial for all parties if the fees go down.
Paid for tutors contact details, they kept saying they were busy, then when I did make an appointment didn't bother showing up. When I emailed asking if they had trouble finding me told me 'they wern't bothering tutoring anymore'
I complained to site didn't get offered my money back and months later the same tutor is still on their site so others can waste their time and money!
This site is a con as the tutor we contacted not only took our money, failed to provide our child with the required assistance, kept cutting him off when he contacted him and there was no one to turn to for assistance as the provided just rings out. What a waste of time and money and our child has been left out of pocket and very stressed as he failed his course as a result.
Beware of this site.
The site does not have proper protection against bad tutors that do not know what they are talking about. The tutors can promise you everything in the world and once you buy there details tutor hunt get there money and the tutors have no repercussions of not teaching you even throw they said they knew what you wanted to learn.
Tutor hunts customer service is slow and unresponsive.
This site will take your money to release the details of supposed 'tutors' who will, in turn, fail to provide you or your child with any of the agreed tutoring (although they might turn up for the first session and the first 30 quid) and then disappear off into the sunset. Following this, Tutorhunt will steadfastly ignore any of your attempts to communicate with them. Proceed with extreme caution... better still, don't proceed at all.
