My experience choosing and ordering the tires on the Tire Rack website was quite good, everything went smoothly. Tire Rack shipped the tires promptly, and 2 of them arrived at the expected time. The other two were sorted incorrectly by UPS and were 3 business days late. The installer was only willing to make an appointment once the tires had actually arrived since, as they said, this sort of thing happens frequently. The installer's "appointment" meant that I would only have to wait 5 hours for my car to be ready. That's not my definition of "appointment", in fact it was quite a disappointment, I've never before waited that long to have a set of tires installed. I don't expect to be going back to them for rotation and balancing.
All is well, except that I was offered a mail in rebate with additional savings with the credit card I just applied for, and I see no instructions about the rebate at this point.
It was easy to shop for and buy the tires that I wanted. There was some confusion when I got a cryptic call from TireRack the next morning saying that I had bought two rear tires. That was annoying, but no, I had bought 4 tires of the same size for my 1983 280zx that I had just purchase new wheels for and it confused them. Their tire size and wheel offset calculator was very helpful in choosing the wheels and tires that I wanted.
