I've never had a problem like this with them before so that's what saves this review from being one star. That being said, this has turned me off from ever purchasing from them again. I placed my order on January 6th and never received a confirmation email, or a notification it had shipped, or anything like that. Today (January 9th) I tried to cancel my order, and they refused because it "had already shipped" on January 8th, yesterday. When I emailed customer service asking to let me cancel because I had no way of knowing it had already shipped, the customer service rep just reiterated that they couldn't cancel because it had "already shipped". The tracking link they provided me with simply says (at the time of posting this) "shipment information received". That doesn't sound like it's already on its way to me! In conclusion, buy your used books online elsewhere. I've had better experiences with both abebooks and alibris.
I had ordered a book for a gift and it never made it to my door step. They say it was delivered but no, it was not. It wasn't a huge expense but I'm still out money.
I ordered and paid for a HARDCOVER VERSION. They sent me a softcover version. I spent time documenting their mistake via their email form and with their chat function. They apologized and promised to send me the correct version. I just received another identical SOFTCOVER version of the book!?! I've spent a lot of time as a result of their mistake. They make it difficult to provide feedback and get their mistakes corrected. I will never again order from them. https://allenbukoff.com/ThriftBooks/ThriftBooksScrewup.jpg
I paid $50 for a book that once got to me had a sticker for 12.64 on it.A phone number written in it and a page torn out.I will never spend a dollar with these mfs again
I actually had to email them because they had not sent any tracking information 4 days after ordering. I figured well it's the 19th of December so you know, Christmas. I got an email response in 3 minutes. WOW that's great!(I thought) Now the book is just hanging around. From what I can tell I think these books aren't shipped from USA(am I wrong?) It says OSM Worldwide on tracking info. So it's the 29th of December(Yes I know Christmas)but I would think after 10 days it would get somewhat close or even to it's destination. So yeah, stick with Amazon.
My items were supposed to arrive on the 12, when talking to some one yesterday apparently they changed the date to the 20th like I wasn't gonna look at my e-mails after and now there is no expected arrival date. I stopped replying cause they told me to contact them on the 20th cause that's when they said it was expected which when they said that they know they had just changed it.
I have bought children's books from this site twice, and both times have Bern disappointed. The condition of the books was rated good, but the books should have been rated fair to poor. The jackets were missing, the corners of the books were bruised, the bindings poor, and two of them were personalized. None of these things were ever mentioned. I'll never buy from here again.
Boy, I wish I had looked at the reviews first before ordering from these goobers. They send out a rare book worth hundreds of dollars in a plastic bag and of course, it got beat up in shipping. The stupidest and the most ignorant thing I have seen in ages. I would not order anything from these people.
I have ordered from this company a total of four times. The last two were fulfillments from another site I had ordered from. Long story short I have a text book about genetics, a book about child birth and two copies of the same book of poetry.
I bought a Ford shop repair manual and it was shipped to me in a timely manner, however, only in a plastic bag and given the weight it did sustain handling damages. When I opened the manual I noticed that an entire chapter of pages were sticking out misaligned at the time of factory binding and some even missing. After I had placed my order I received a confirmation email saying that I was being upgraded to a book of better condition. Well I thought how could these people send me a book that was manufacture $#*!ed in a plastic bag after I gave them money. And speaking of money, after sending it back to Thriftbooks.com received an email confirming they received it and I should get a refund in 2 - 5 business days. After 2 weeks I had to share this with PayPal and ask them to help. PayPal had to step in and gave me the refund.
Sent empty dvd case how do you sell a dvd in acceptable condition when there's no dvd in the case to grade waste of time better off buying new
If I would have known that the two books which I ordered were coming from two different location, I would have never ordered from them. The first book came quickly, the second book I am still awaiting which has been in the mail since the 30th of October and is clearly lost. Upon writing to Customer Service they answered with a litany of the rules when ordering. Tracking info shows the package to have been in 6 different places with the last in the county next door to me where it is has been for the last SEVEN days. They refuse to help me! Wait 12 days, they said. 12 DAYS? My first experience with Thrift books is also my LAST! I can promise you that!
It said acceptable for two identical books I ordered. Pages were ripped, folded and chunks missing.
I'm not allowed to return them because I was supposed to accept their rating.
I gave them $6 for a book. They sent me the wrong book, and say they do not process returns valued at less than $15. So I am simply out of luck.
I purchased two books - one was very good and the other good. I was not happy with the writing in the good book so I let them know. They immediately sent me an almost brand new book. No questions asked. It's nice to find someone who does business that way
We have been purchasing books for over a year from ThriftBooks. We discovered this company during Covid, when going to public libraries wasn't an option. It was for us, a LIFESAVER! We've bought about 35 books of different genres, condition ratings, and price values. We have never been unhappy with any of our purchases. They have always been delivered within the expected time frame, if not before. Many have come in better condition than we expected(such as a book listed as fair or good condition, yet being in a new condition, seemingly never been opened). We have been able to purchase many books for low prices, enabling us to buy some books we otherwise couldn't have afforded new, or otherwise allowing us to be able to buy more. We have nothing negative to say about this company and will continue to order and to recommend it to others.
Don't get me wrong, I'd buy the book for the price even if the condition was stated correctly. If the condition says "Like New" just make sure to be ok with "Used & slightly damaged." Again, if I would have seen the book I would have still bought it for the same price, but it was misleading.
I bought 6 books in one order. All were either very good, good, fair or acceptable. The "acceptable" rated book was the best quality book, without any creases or discoloration of any kind. One of the "good" was a graphic novel with a very major front cover crease and seeing how cover art is a major part of comics and GN's, this should have been fair to acceptable at best. Another book marked very good, was in easy-reading large print, which should definitely be stated and wasn't.The print size is a factor for readers! The other thing is that Thrift Books puts their own sticker on all of the books which cant be removed without tearing the book itself, in my view, making all of the books less than very good.
I was excited about this company, and they even grand credit rewards for purchases, but its not worth it for the inconsistency and lack of consideration of the books themselves and readers. Id never buy from here unless I was desperate and they had something I couldn't get anywhere else.
I recently purchased two books. Upon their arrival I found them in less than good condition. One in particular was a "picture" book, but it was not described as such. They don't give refunds. Upon purchasing the books, there was nothing that explained to me that I was unable to return the books for a refund.
This store is very unfair,, some people can be tired with, job, studying and 3 kids and you might end up buying the wrong edition of the book, and that's what happened to me, and they dont have any consideration as I am explaining what happened Jerry from the customer rep. Just rejected my return/refund. That was inconsiderate of this store, you guys could have give me atleast half of the money I paid through a voucher that I can only use on your store, they did not offer any solution at all just say a big NOOOO,, I wouldnt recommend buying at this store, selfish, any one that is reading comments, just look for that very one message that is not good, because they are the one that has the real experience, and not a clown... what a dissappointment, I was gonna buy all my books from you,, guess their is a reason why it is thrifbook store, you guhys are thrifty..
Answer: It sounds like a question you need to ask them directly.
Answer: You should think twice before paying international postal rates and customs fees for used books.
Answer: When this happens, just tell them and they'll give you a refund. Books are sent via USPS, so good luck with a tracking number. Very occasionally they will lose a shipment, and this is not Thriftbooks' fault.
Answer: Library Binding is a term used for books that are in large print.
Answer: I donate my books to the library for their book sale
Answer: I ordered through the ThriftBooks website. They send me an order confirmation email. Then they send me shipping confirmation email with tracking. Shipping confirmation emails may be sent separately for each book if they come from different locations. If you keep track of the emails, you know exactly what the situation is for your order. I have ordered over 30 books, have check on the status often, and had no problems. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have email, but is that a possibility in this day and age? If you ordered by phone, I'm not sure why you didn't call them for the status.
Answer: They do not accept checks or money orders. You need to use credit, debit (cards), or PayPal.
