I was quoted about $100 to sell my Engineering Circuits book to textbooks.com. The offer was better than any other website I received quotes from so, as a poor college kid, I jumped on the offer. I followed their instructions and securely packaged my book with bubble wrap and it was on its way. Days later I checked my email looking for a confirmation that they received the book and was informed they received my book and sent my preferred method of payment (check) to me. So I waited for the check, and and about 2 weeks later, I emailed them asking for verification that they sent the check but no response. Well I waited, and waited, and waited... then I looked for a phone number to contact them but they didn't have one, only email. Again, I emailed them emphasizing my concern but didn't get a response. I wish I would have been more suspicious from the start but unfortunately I learned the hard way. This company stole my book and rented or sold it to someone else. If this "business" offers you a low price for rental or purchase, it's because they steal the books from other unfortunate victims. This is a disgrace to textbook services and I hope I can prevent them from scamming a few more college students. I highly recommend that you do NOT do business with them and go with one of the others, like chegg or amazon.
I ordered one book, was charged and delivered two even though there's only one book on my account history and no confirmation on the second book anywhere. Yet, I am still paying $16 to ship the second book I did not order or want back in order to get a refund. Please do NOT purchase anything from their marketplace. Save your time and energy for a company or your local book store that won't play you like a fiddle.
Ordered a book that was in stock on Thursday from textbooks.com. They waited until Monday to cancel the order, presumably because it was out of stock. There was no explanation. One star for the quick refund, I guess?
If you are buying a book from them that is in stock, you should be okay. If you are buying a book from their Marketplace - BEWARE! First of all, you will have to deal with the seller directly on any issues and in our case, the Seller advertised the book was coming from a neighboring state - Avenel, New Jersey. Since we needed the book in Philadelphia, we expected the book to arrive in a week. The reality is that the seller *******@indoo.com in NOT in New Jersey, but in another country! Not sure how they get away with it, but per Textbvooks.com Customer Service, that seller has the most complaints. The shipping is like 21 business days. That's too long, class will be over. Just Beware of the Textbook.com Marketplace.
Awful! On website the description was "Used Textbook" when I received the book it was just a stack of three ring punches pages of the book. Called the company. They replied Its a "loose Leaf Used Text Book". Never before purchase was I told I was purchasing a Loose Leaf Stack of paper!
I purchased an access code to an online book just to find out after opening the package that the book was not still not accessible to me. I wasted $90 on this product that Textbooks.com refuses to reimburse me for. I will not be shopping here again, and I advise other students not to as well.
If I could give a zero star, I would. They took my books and said they were damaged when they received them. No further explanation on how much they were going to pay me or not going to pay was given. I called to figure out what happened because my books were like almost new and I packed them with extra care. They said they books were not really damaged, but they were suspecting my books could be counterfeit that they sent them for a review from the publisher, of which the process could take months to hear back. And I got no proof that says my books are going through the review. I have no idea if they really sent my books to be reviewed or they are selling my books as "like a new" condition. DO NOT SEND YOUR BOOKS FOR BUYBACK! They are thieves!
I recently sent them two books for buyback, they quoted me $40. Books were in pristine condition. Below is the email I received...
Ordered a text ($300) from them on 8/14. Charged the credit card the next day. On 8/18 an empty box arrived. On 8/20, waited on hold for tech support for 25 minutes; tech support confirmed the box went out empty - but blamed the publisher - and promised to send another. 6 days of checking found no new shipping information. On 8/27, called tech support. The second book order was "lost" - again by the publisher - and another would be "sent out in 2 - 6 business days." Cancelled the order. When a company can't check themselves for errors, and keeps blaming a major publisher, you don't need to do business with that company.
Basically they get you to send them books saying they will pay you a certain amount and when they get them they say they aren't worth anything and want money for you to get them back. I reported them to the State Attorney Generals office for Fraud.
Essentially, they steal your books.
They will lead you to believe all the books they advertise as available are ready to be purchased. Not true. Bought a book only to have them tell me two days later it was not available. They did refund my money but I was left scrambling to buy from another vendor as class was beginning soon. Suggest you stay away from this company.
The expiration of the ebook is not shown at all on the website that I could find and the expiration info is not shown prominently on the website when you are renting the book. I called to see if they could give me access to do one download of it since I was not aware of the expiration period so I could us the book on my final exam in two days and the refused. I would highly not recommend renting from them!
Do not order from this company! I mailed two books to them for the buy back option, they said they never received one of my books even though the tracking number shows it was delivered and they now refuse to give me my money back or my book. RUN AWAY!
After they received my textbook, which was in excellent condition, they claimed it was damaged because the access code was scratched off. They stated they would not pay me, and they would recycle the book. There is no mention of access codes anywhere in their long list of selling textbooks requirements on their website. Also, under buying textbooks on their website, it states only new textbooks come with access codes and used textbooks do NOT come with access codes. Seems to me they are playing both ends, in order to rip off the consumer.
This company is a scam. Their website clearly says that they accept textbooks with exposed code (though not for a full credit). And they obviously sell the used textbooks with the exposed codes (again written on their website). However, when I sent my expensive textbook to them them marked it "damaged" and said that the reason is because the code was exposed. And offered me to pay 10$ to ship it back. Basically they stole the book. I'm pretty sure they are not going to recycle it but will rent it out or sell as the used version (given that the new one costs $250, the used one of this edition will cost at least $100). Never ever repeat my mistake and try to sell your textbooks through this scam company.
Resell offers are deliberately vague so that they can claim lesser condition and/or missing code at which point they will give you nothing and try to charge you twice the postage to return the book to you. Look for a reputable company to buy and sell your textbooks with.
I bought a physical copy of a book, paid about $80. Book sized box came, only for there to be an access code. I'm never using this site again
I order a book for a finance class and they charged me for shipping. When it go here, there was a big textbook size box with no textbook inside just the access code, but the website never made it clear that i wasn't getting a textbook because it gave the option of new and use. You cant use a used access code. To top it all off, they are closed weekends and the sent me the wrong access code to the wrong book even though the title picture author and edition was all the same. Thankfully McGraw Hill was able to rectify the situation.
If you buy book from here, you will lose your money. They show one edition and one color but sell others. Be careful, this is very very bad for your. If you return, they will not refund your shipping cost.
Textbooks.com is fraud for student.
DO NOT SELL HERE! TOTAL SCAM! SENT THEM 2 DECENT QUALITY BOOKS ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME THERE IS WATER DAMAGE WHICH IS TOTAL BULL! THEN THEY WANT ME TO PAY THEM TO GET THE BOOKS RETURNED TO ME. LITTLE DO THEY KNOW I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE BOOKS BEFORE I SENT IT JUST FOR THIS REASON.
Answer: NO... They are selling counterfeit books on their site and when you ask for a refund you get no response whatsoever. Stay away from this company as it is a clear scam on college students wanting to save money on textbooks.
