We booked flights NYC-Lisbon-Bucharest and back. The flights to Bucharest were fine. We thought it was going to be a great airlines. Then while we were traveling around Romania we were told through word of mouth that TAP Portugal had canceled all flights to and from Romania. They didn't alert us. No email, no phone call, nothing on their english facebook page. It took a lot of searching and asking people to translate for us to find from their Romanian facebook page that our flights were in fact canceled. Then we spent hours on hold and getting the run around from customer service as they rebooked our flights from different countries and with layovers that would have caused us to miss our connecting flights.
All in all a terrible airlines that you should avoid at all costs.
We booked our tickets: Toulouse - Helsinki via Lisbon.
The first flight was at 6:45pm, the airline staff at 7pm started to tell us that the flight was delayed for 40 minutes... 7:45pm, staff announce another 45 min to wait... like this for 3 or 4 times. After 4:30 hours finally the plane arrived, obviously we lost our connection to Helsinki.
At 1:00 am finally we arrived in Lisbon, where their staff were waiting for us with new connections. They are so amazingly inefficient that they gave us a new connection in the next 5 hours going to Brussels and in ONLY 20 minutes, take another plane to Helsinki. WAW!!!!
We went to talk with them in Lisbon, trying to explain that the connection time was to short (20 min), that we will be risking again to lose the next connection. They did not understand, they forced us to take that flight.
Finally we arrived in Brussels, luckily we got time to get the flight to our final destination BUT we insisted that we wanted to be sure that our bags were in the plane (as the connection was only 5 min), ALL their staff confirmed that our bags were on the plane, they were 100% SURE of that! We trusted them.
After 20 hours of travel, we arrived to Helsinki!
Big surprise: OUR BAGS WERE MISSING!!!!! After all this hassle and drama, they lost our bags!
There is an EU regulation that you must receive a compensation for flights delayed and for loosing connections.
We wrote to TAP about this subject, obviously they did not reply to us!!
The refuse to follow the regulations, they have not respect for their clients, they do not want to pay us!

Doesn't matter where in the world TAP employees are clueless about their jobs...kid you not
If dealing with TAP make sure you get to the airport not 3 but 5 hrs ahead of time, if you have to go to their counter because you have excess of baggage, have a pet or you have especial needs...you need the 5 hrs.
You will be talking to someone that won't look at you...and you also can be blue on the face trying tell them what ever you need to explain to them doesn't matter. You will be losing your flight...or pay through your nose for something you don't know what...and better pay or you lose your flight
They will not listen because they know better... the customer has no idea what he needs or wants...
That beautiful saying " Customer is always right" is wrong.
They snap at you, make you feel like you are a criminal. They are rude, obnoxious to the point of you losing your temper and then you are done.
I tried to call TAP Air Portugal numerous times and different numbers... I waited some times 30/40 minutes no one picked up the calls, the message goes on " due to high number of calls do not hung up you call will be answered...." I also tried the email address, now that's interesting they don't have one, only to book your flight but there they give you a phone number that goes no where...
My trip was on the 3rd of January 2018, I traveled a lot on my 60 years, I am Canadian and like most Canadians I am very polite and have tons of patience and apologize a lot in a between...
For the first time I felt insulted... I was like a flee bothering a dog
Be careful TAP now co-works with other air lines in Canada and USA, when booking a trip ask about it, freely they don't give you that info.
