You just feel cheated

When renting, a lump sum insurance premium of 300 euros was proposed and that was done continuously, to say the least.
We did not take a TOL pass. So assumed it was removed from car. But that has not happened and it has not been said that you have to remove this road before you drive. On the highway there are transmitters that register cars when they arrive. So for each registration you have to pay 36.90. Shame they don't tell you this. In the end I have to pay about 200 euros. Although I have not used this pass.

CROOKS AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

THIS COMPANY - THEY ARE CROOKS

Rented a car online via a comparison site for our holiday to Malta. Paid for extra insurance as well.
Upon arrival to pick up our car They ended up charging us an extra £200 because we didn't have a credit card! And they charged us an for extra insurance as they said the one we took out online when we purchased the car hire wasn't valid and we couldn't have the car without it.
My partner ended up just paying as we needed to get our young daughter to our accommodation.

Upon returning the car, there were two very small 'dots' no bigger than a couple of mm on the paint work. They charged us the excess of €450 plus €50 admin fee for the 'damage'. This was not going to cost more than €450 to fix (nor would they probably bother getting it fixed). Apparently none of the insurances we had covered any wear and tear, even though we had an extra policy they made us take out.
They are absolute crooks. Do not rent from this company.
Other reputable companies came out as more initially on the comparison site and we wish we had just gone with them as our car hire went from £60 to over £600 by the time we had finished with them. It's disgusting. They are also not part of the ECRCS which ensures hire companies are kept to a high and fair standard. Says a lot. Stay away.

AVOID AT ALL COST! They are a scam!
Hidden costs (low published price to get you hooked), AND they will find any reason to slug you with damage fees (hairline scratch) if you didn't fully photograph/video the vehicle completely in good lighting on collection.
Their published price doesn't include basic mandatory insurance (unlike all comparable rental companies).
I got slugged for a minor scratch that could be buffed out, to the value of $500+.
A premium brand (Avis, europcar, budget, Hertz) would have been cheaper.

They drive you to an office block miles from the airport in some seedy little office.
They damage your credit card in so that it is unusable then try to get you to buy their comprehensive insurance and if you refuse they call you a "no show" and keep your deposit. They have a "clean out clean back" policy which isn't mentioned anywhere which means you must have the car valet serviced or pay another £20 and they charge you £5 to take you BACK to the airport drop off zone.
Then just ignore your emails
And stay clear of CARJET who are just intermediaries and it is not possible to contact them post event...

Pickup was the worst I have ever experienced. Drop off was perfect. The rental agreement states that there will be "Meet & Greet". I had informed them of my arrival time and flight number. There was no Meet & Greet. After waiting half an hour, I called them. They kept on lying to me that a car is coming to pick me up and it is just 5 minutes away. 1.5 hours after my arrival, I gave up on them and went to get a bus ticket. At time they called, to say they were outside the terminal in a private car. Me & another renter were taken to their office. The driver was the same person and the only person, who does the paper work. Took half an hour to do the other person's paper work and then half an hour to do mine. I finally got my car 1.5 hours after I was scheduled to pick it up and almost 3 hours after my arrival.

We arrived to pick our car up? We were charged a further 105 euros for insurance. I'd already purchased premium insurance when booking the car. We were told that if we were in an accident we would have to stay in the country for 5 days. If we pay this money then we wouldn't need to stay for 5 days. Very disappointed with the service. No one was there to meet us at the airport as stated in the email we stood for an hour waiting, we are several people. If they've heard of this company, no one had heard of it. My husband went all over the airport to try and find them nothing. Then when we did phone they said they were coming and get us. No one came to get us. They phoned back We were told to go to Terminal 2. We waited there and eventually a man walked towards us a Very abrupt and rude man. The car was disgusting. It had all dents on the side of it. The warning light was on, one of the head lights not working which we didn't notice until the next night would never use this company again. Why was it not stated that I would need to pay further insurance? SCAM Had this been the case? I would not have chose this company. I believe I have been scammed and I have requested and I will be contacting my bank. Also when we questioned all the dents scratches etc. The guy just shrugged his shoulders and nothing marked on the paperwork. There was a burn inside on seat. Very intimidating and threatening actions. Most definitely will not use this company again. We were too frightened to question anything. They were so intimidating like mobsters. When we did return the car they didn't even check it over. Scary. Oh and it's not car jet you get your car from. It's a company called surprice car rentals Montenegro

It was absolutely disappointing and disastrous. At the desc Surprise rent a car in Venice office they did not except my vertical credit card on my prepaid booking for 5 day which was with full cover for €66 but the lady there said she will make an exception and except a debit card but I had to purchase their insurance cover which was about €600 for 5 days otherwise we won't give you a car. She tried to rip me off. I told her that I had already insured the car but she said it is not reliable.
I was disgusted by her attitude and decided not take the car that paid for and booked and couldn't get any refund instead I booked online with Viaggiare through SressFreeCarRental without any problems and with my debit card.

The owner is clearly part of a larger network of BARE MINIMUM rental services. LOTS and lots of paperwork that amounts to screwing you, the dear customer, over at every turn. Find a big company that's well reviewed and deal with the slightly higher price. These blokes are trying to take the money and run.

Absolutely Rip Off

Been hiring cars in Portugal for 35 years first time used Surprice Car Rentals via Jet2 Absolutely ripped off just returned car and they claimed there was a small chip on the windscreen and charged me €371, no stone came anywhere near the car. Was rushed by the person handing over the car, it had just been washed only took a few pictures and guess what none of the windscreen!

I rented a vehicle in Pisa, in May 2024.

1) no handing over of the rental contract. It is sent to you by email, I am told. This is NOT TRUE, nothing is sent and no one informs you in advance of the terms and conditions of the contract.

2) the car is given to me unwashed. There is no other, the employee tells me.

3) no contradictory examination of the vehicle, and therefore no document provided on this point. Take photos, the employee tells me... except that under the mud and dust it is impossible to check that there are no scratches or paint chips...

4) on the way back, the same employee "innocently" wipes an area of the underbody and "discovers" scratches on the paint (sic!). He doesn't even bother to look anywhere else!

5) no delivery of the vehicle return document. It will be sent to you by email, the employee tells me. This is NOT TRUE again, nothing is sent.

6) back home, I noticed that no document had been sent and that Suprice had debited the CDW excess (€1200) from my account even though I had no accident.

Immediately I made a complaint.
Following this complaint, the requested documents (rental contract and return report) were sent to me by email... not signed by me, of course.
And the CDW excess was partially refunded to me, Surprice having kept €585 in compensation for the disputed scratches... so about 1.7 times the rental cost!
New complaint from me... but without much hope.

This was my first rental with Surprice, but probably my last.
ADVICE, RUN AWAY FROM THIS RENTER!
Note that this company also uses the name AUTO ONE. Run away from them too!

If you don't do an insurance at them they try to find a small dente to pay at least 400€. I asked for a real photo to see the damage before and after and didn't want to…when in Greece the lady said not to wash the car otherwise they will imput all the damage the car already has.

I booked a car in Antalya airport (Turkey). Nobody was waiting there for me when I arrived, I had to call them and wait. Later in their office the manager refused to give me the booked car saying that my cards are not credit cards and he is enable to hold a deposit there (the cards are valid, credit cards). So I had to stay in Antalya one night and rent a car in an another rental company (which had no troubles at all with my cards!). But I still have not gotten my prepayment of booking from Surprice!

Terrible company! Don´t trust!

When we came to get our car at 03 in the morning at Tirana Airport they just told us they didnt have a car for us. No reason why, nothing at all - they had our order in their system and we had paid full in advance but still they just told us they could not give us a car. Not even a different one than that one we paid for. This was in the middle of the night and we had our baby with us. Instead we had to leave without a car and find a taxi that could take us for 1 hour to our hotel. The next day they didnt answer the phone and when we finally got through they refused that we had even been there! They said that the car had been ready but it was us who hadnt shown up! We had to show photo proof and plane tickets and fight with them and even write a police report and after 1 month we finally got a refund after threathening to sue them. An insanely bad company that no one should trust!

I booked a car through CarJet to rent a car for the day at Surprice Florence, Italy. When we arrived:
1. There was a huge queue because all the other customers were complaining and we had to wait for more than 1 hour
2. They told us, as they did for the other clients who were very upset as well - who were mentioning scams which absolutely seems to be the case - that the driver had to be the same one providing the credit card for the deposit which could not be done since the driver did not have a credit card. They were even arguing with the couple in front of us who wanted to use a joint account...
3. they told us they could cancel the reservation and do another one with them right there to change the driver (and add an extra driver for a fee). We tried to do it but in the end, the whole new reservation then would have amounted to 3x the starting price.
4. We decided not to get the car with all those extra prices but didn't get any refund for the first reservation. Other customers, mainly tourists see themselves forced to proceed with this scam to continue with their trips.

Be aware that they will check car very carefully when you return it trying to find anything to charge you for. With other companies I've never had to pay for a small (less than 3cm) scratch, but they spent about 10 min on return checking and rechecking until they could find something. It was a tiny dent that was either already there or someone made us as we didn't hit anything. The guy spent ages going around the car looking for something until he found this. So small we hadn't noticed it.
They made us pay 190Euros.

They also put the onus on customer to take photos of the car when checking out to prove its condition.

It was obvious they wanted to find something, he even went under the car twice.

Strongly recomment NOT TO USE

Ever ever again, be aware of this fraduelent, money graping company, and thier partner company in turkey (active car rental) took 900 euros deposit on top of my rental, it has been over a month since I returned the car and haven't received my deposit back yet the rep was very rude.tried to sell me unnecessary insurance, and when I refused he was very disrespectful the car was dirty, brakes were loose with over 100k miles.very bad experience remember this name active car rental in turkey part of surpricr car rental.bunch of scammers.

I rented car from Sur Price in Maderia Portugal. The price was acceptable. Our flight was arriving at 11:30 and I authorized a rental for noon. The plane was 2.5 hours delayed and I had no opportunity to contact the rental company while in the air. When we arrived and I called (it took probably 7 calls to get through to an actual human) I was told the rental was for noon and it was almost 4 and they had rented the car and cancelled my reservation...and kept the $530 total cost for my rental. The person who answered this 7th call was rude and told me it was my responsibility to contact them with the flight delay information...really! On an airplane... and that I was responsible for the entire cost of the rental. When I questioned her on these charges and the circumstances of the delayed flight she simply hung up me. I am now dealing with American Express for the full refund on these scam charges. BEWARE...DO NOT RENT FROM THIS SHAM COMPANY!

Run away from this company

I rent cars at least 3 or 4 times a year and always pick up the best deal available. Never had problems before, and the rates this time were good. When picking up, a worker took about one minute tops, inside the shadowish garage, to take note of all the scratches. I didn't get a copy of that report - but there already a few minor scratches in several parts of the vehicle.
I went outside of Lisboa - to highways and other places where parking is not a problem and there is lots of space everywhere.
So, 6 days later, delivering the car, everything's different and I had two guys checking every millimetre of the car, under Lisbon's July sun. And they found a "new" scratch on the alloy wheel, a tiny-minor-difficult to see (this time I took the pic...) for which they charged me 170€, well over what I'd paid for the whole renting. So, I've read reviews after that and concluded it's their business model: cheap renting, then overcharging clients with scratches that were already there.
They go by different names, the documents are issued in "International Car", "International Car II" and "SurPrice car rentals".
PS - I dare you to find the 170€ worth of damage in the photo...
