Stripe is extremely difficult to use platform. Based on my brief experience with the Stripe customer service rep., Emerald today. I got the arrogant and rude treatment from her. She refused to explore solution to my issue and told me that is Stripe's business model. If I don't comply then go away! I gladly did.
I have been a long IT career professional. Never in my long career of over 40 years, I would treatment a client/user with arrogance and rudeness acting as Stripe is the only best platform in the world. That is so arrogant of a no name company like Stripe. Never I would give any business to Stripe. In technology world, there's always something better around corner. Stripe is a legacy and an unwise company. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. UNLESS YOU WISH TO LOSE YOUR MONEY AND BE SCAMMED COMPLYING WITH THE REQUIREMENTS TO PROVIDE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT. OTHER PLATFORM AND BIG FINANCIAL INSTITUITIONS DON'T REQUIRE IT. IT'S SAD THAT SO MANY UNKNOWING BUSINESSES ALL VICTI OF THEIR SCAM.
I have escalated my case for a Stripe supervisor to call me as I was told. I am just not waste my time to help Stripe improve their business.

Stripe in an incompetent company. I had opened an account before but had no need to use it until a year or so later, but I found it was locked, possibly because it had not been used.

It then asked me to verify my account by supplying the date of the last two Stripe transactions. But I had never used the account, so there have been no transactions. It took me two days to get the "support" agents to understand that this method of verification could not work.

I was then asked to send a photo of my passport next to the day's date on a piece of paper, which I did. But the agent said he could not see the date (even though it took up about a quarter of the area of the image).

It took two days to convince the agent that the date was actually there, and that he could see it with his own eyes like the rest of our species.

But then he decided to tell me that I must write the date in my own handwriting!

If they had a sample of my handwriting then this would be logical to verify my ID, but they didn't. So could have got my postman to write it (for example) or anyone else.

Anyway, I sent a new photo of my passport with the date written in my own HANDWRITING.

Then three more agents got involved over the next three days asking me to do the same thing. So I sent the same image back to them each time they asked, saying that I had already uploaded this to the URL they had supplied.

I then asked them if my account had been successfully verified. They did not reply for another day or so.

Then, after I posted my review of this shambles on Trustpilot, they responded by asking me to send an email to their "special" help email address.

So I did. Five days ago.

They have not replied.

Since then I have had more of the same emails from them telling me to supply ID (exactly the same copies as before).

I just did a count of the number of emails they've sent me. It's now 31.

I still don't have access to my own account.

I cannot imagine anyone in their right minds willingly choosing to use these morons as a payment processor; they must be the worst payment processor ever conceived.

They should not be trading at all.

I was recently told I needed to update my bank account information on Stripe, because my previous account had been closed due to fraud and they did not have an up-to-date payment method for me. When my account failed to let me update this payment, I reached out to customer service at Stripe, where the worst customer service experience of my life began. I worked with three men named Duncan, Chris and Gary, NONE of which were helpful whatsoever. The first I spoke to, Duncan, told me that I needed to provide additional verification to ensure that I was the owner of the account as I said I was. Happy to do so, I provided several documents showing recent Stripe transactions to my account, multiple forms of photo I.D. He told me this wasn't enough and that we would need to do a phone verification. They demanded bank statements for an account that, as I mentioned, was closed to due to fraud and I had no way of accessing. This was after I had provided an upwards of ten documents (total of 13) that clearly verified I was who I said I was and I was also the owner of this account/domain. They continued to ask for personal information, including bank account information I really wasn't comfortable providing over email. The amount of documents I provided them already would've made it very easy for someone to steal my identity or information, had it fallen into the wrong hands. Duncan passed me onto Gary to help, who sent me a generic response that made it clear to me he did not even read the prior emails to familiarize himself with the issue at hand. When I responded to this generic email to clarify why this information wasn't helpful to me and that I couldn't access bank statements from a closed account, he never even responded. I sent him four different emails over a full week trying to get in touch and get his help, and he never ever contact me back. Nobody ever reached back out to me regarding this issue whatsoever, and there was no phone number listed on the website I could even call. I ended up resolving the matter by myself, without help from anyone at Stripe. I am absolutely appalled by this terrible customer experience. If I could rate it negative stars, I would.

I had fraudulent transactions occur online in my business. Stripe told me that I disabled the security Radar function which is why the transaction was approved even though the customer used the incorrect card address and cvv number. I did not disable the Radar function and so obviously they could not prove that! (They log and event everything that takes place) Then they told me that Stripe actually disabled the Radar function to all their customers around the world because there was too many transactions being declined! (BrainFreeze- isn't that a good thing?) WTF Who in their right mind would even want to disable that function? Its the only real protection against online fraud.! Then they said that they sent me and all customers an email stating they had disabled it and so "we" could enable it again if we wanted to! And how long until I notice they have made that change to MY ACCOUNT! AND how many fraudulent transactions do I know have to deal with in lieu of their actions!?!?!?!? But to make it worse... I have checked my emails from Stripe and I have never received any email informing me that they have changed MY ACCOUNT SETTINGS of Radar WHICH ONLY OPEN MY COMPANY UP TO FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY. Any way of winning against these bastards?>?

Worst company ever who doesn't even have their act straight. Don't even know how they can be in this business. No customer service at all. So I signed up for an account with them. Spent money having a gateway developed around stripe for my website. Was still in the testing phase with their sandbox and then tried it live with one test payment. It didn't go through. So it didn't work or so I thought. A few days later they closed my account saying I violated their TOS. I looked at their TOS and I didn't violate anything, so I contacted them. They were quite rude, but after a few emails after asking them to explain, it was discovered that they think I was doing a prohibited business. My business doesn't even do that and doesn't even use stripe. They apparently looked at another one of my website, and saw something that was on there and indiscriminately closed the account without looking further. The TOS says that we wouldn't USE Stripe to accept payments for any prohibited business. First, that site didn't USE stripe at all which they didn't check. Second, that site doesn't even Sell the item, it was an affiliate link to the seller, who doesn't even use Stripe. Because of that, they closed the account, and the other site I have using stripe can't use it anymore. I've wasted money all for nothing. I guess this can be a blessing in disguise as I don't have to lose much more when customers start buying things like others have. Because, if I have a balance and then they decide to close my account, I'd be in worse off shape. STAY CLEAR OF STRIPE. They will close your account for NO REASON and you don't have any recourse. You can't contact them and they won't care what you say at all. Save yourself the trouble and find another company to work with.

I had several chargebacks on my website by fraudsters so I looked for an option to protect me. I moved from Square to Stripe to take advantage of the RADAR fraud system which seemed robust and worth the extra money. They do charge in addition to their payment processing fees. For instance, a $6.99 purchase costs me.61 cents. Almost 10% of my sale... With this steep fee, you'd think you're paying for a nice slice of the peace of mind pie, but you're not. I constantly have sales go through with risk scores at the HIGHEST level, or they have an address in a completely different state or country, the IP address doesn't match up, the IP address has multiple disputes associated with it, so you know what you have to do? Refund that purchase, and Stripe KEEPS ALL THE FEES. I have paid Stripe more for a service that is clearly not working consistently and logically. When you reach out to ask why these clearly fraudulent payments are going through, the customer services reps never know what to say. They just copy and paste help articles and never address the real issue. They are completely useless and uninformed. A most recent order: IP address located in Pennsylvania, billing address located in Maine (a vacant building) Bank located in West Virginia, Card was prepaid, 14 cards were associated with that IP address, 6 different emails, multiple disputes. With alll the red flags you don't even need software to identify, RADAR by Stripe assigned it a ZERO risk and RADAR let it go through for a large purchase over $150. I had to refund that purchase to avoid a dispute and sure enough, I confirmed it was fraud. After all my work, I had to pay all the fees to Stripe when refunding the customer to cancel the order. It feels like fraud is happening here, and more than from my customers. Advertising a service that fails and then refusing to fix it or address is is the definition of fraud. What an expensive mistake to invest in Stripe's Fraud software.

My experience with stripe

The beginning.

Launched a company
Went international
Built an open payment gateway that had fraud protection
The build

We used both PayPal and stripe
No charge back from PayPal. Fraud protect system works and was sufficient in acquired information to pass any inspection of transaction via ip.
stripe.com listed all transactions as fraudulent based on EIN numbers. We were 100 % legit. They took over 3000 in prior sales, 1200 of which came directly out of someone's social security funds. Then they complained to the authorities about harassment after stealing this former us marines money because it threw him into a ptsd episode.
They tried to return 515 dollars of that man's money, which was returned to back to stripe.com which immediately was immediately followed by his detaiNing
That man spent 2 months in jail over harassment of his social security funds being garnished illegally as stripe.com was made aware of the situation.
There is now a nocontact order between that man and stripe.com / ceo jon zeiger.

They still have not returned his cash, nor followed up with proper research on the business transactions which were shown as legit.

They even labeled donations from menial fundraisers from local friends as fraudulent.

B È W A R E

If you use this company, be prepared for being robbed, and them using the fbi, and local Authorities to cover up their own illegal activities.

Their game is simply to create a system that taxes the merchant literally out of business, by way of financing and product.

We know this. Personally. Due to this experience our lives will never be the same. Thanks.

We will be seeking damages.

I made the mistake of using this company as an alternative to Paypal. BIG MISTAKE! I sell online webinars and educational material through a membership subscription. Once my membership got over 500 they started to hold my payouts. It took many many inquires just to find out that they considered my business HIGH RISK although I have almost no disputes)Other than a mysterious fraud charge that they appear to be used as the reason to hold my money.

They will continually tell you that they are checking into it and they understand your frustration. Talking to serval different customer service reps (through email because this 45 billion dollar company (Valuation) does not have a phone number you can call into) they all give the same generic response. Currently, they are holding over 12,000.00 of my money. I gave them free membership to check the account out and nothing but radio silence. These people are thieves.

The Better Business Bureau is being inundated with complaints about their business practices and they give the same generic answers there as well. Check it out for yourself:
https://tinyurl.com/u9tecg8

Everything that you are reading about this company in the reviews is true. They are a shady company that will rear its ugly head once they can steal your money. I have lodged a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and currently laying the groundwork to file a civil action against them in Federal Court. This is the only thing that will get their attention once they have enough lawsuits lodged against them. Stay away from this company if you are a startup. Paypal is a much safer choice no matter what issues they may have.

Their customer service is TRASH! This is my professional opinion. They appear to be stealing money and making interests off it to offset something, I'm not sure. My intuition tells me this is a crooked company. DO NOT pay attention to any of the positive articles on the internet. Check the Federal Trade Commission and BBB if you want the truth.

BEWARE the STRIPE TAX!
October 13, 2023

25% revenue hold as reserve for chargebacks and refunds.
This month 1 chargeback $600
Reserve taken $7000
45 days until returned
1/3 through month - expect $21,000 hold
Worse! - they don't use that money to pay for refunds or chargebacks - they still take that from the remaining 75%!
Need 150 transactions for 1 chargeback so they keep 25% to cover a potential 0.75%
In my business at $600 per sale that is $90,000 in transactions and $22,500 held in case there is a $600 chargeback
But worse- it is a sneaky 45 day hold so that is $135,000 in transactions with a $33,000 hold fo a potential $600 chargeback.
You think maybe we have a lot of chargebacks?
Our chargeback rate has been 0.5% for 4 years with a jump to 1.7% for 2 months now dropped again.
Maybe we are in a bad industry?
Healthcare telemedicine certified nationally by legitscripts most fastidious criteria.
Maybe irregular income?
Subscription business with 4 year history
Maybe just low income?
$4m in 4 years
So surely customer support can help?
4 hours with CS in a week on an urgent matter to remove the hold- 4 agents- they are just robots " but sir you have a 1.1% chargeback rate over the past 3 months we need to collect 25% of your revenue. No phone support, only chat with polite messages promising an email from the disputes department.- get a polite email from a no-reply mailbox. It is a black hole, running on an algorithm with no humans with any idea of business. No access to a supervisor or manager.
It is big job to move our company to a new processor but we are doing it. We will have to wait 45 days for these funds to START coming back. It is not a lump sum it is 45 days from each transaction, less fees, less refunds, less disputes that occur in the meantime.
AND if there are not enough funds in your account they will hit your bank account for the balance before using the reserve for" chargebacks and refunds"
STAY CLEAR of STRIPE especially if you are a high volume subscription business in a reputable industry looking for growth. BEWARE the STRIPE TAX.
