State Farm's reputation has significantly declined among customers, with numerous complaints highlighting issues such as delayed claims processing, lack of communication, and perceived bad faith in handling claims. Customers express frustration over rising premiums and inadequate support, often resorting to legal action to resolve disputes. While some long-term clients appreciate the ease of policy management and the app's functionality, the overwhelming sentiment suggests a growing dissatisfaction with the company's service and commitment to its policyholders. I have been a customer of State Farm for 47 years. I have had homeowners, renters and automobile insurance.
Brent Dixons office is fantastic. They do their best to help you and make you a happy customer. The problem is with their claims office who i think are complete jerks.
We had a major hail storm in April 2023. I had three independent roofers look at my roof. Each roofer said I had significant hail storm damage on the back of my roof and the roof needs to be replaced. State Farm wrote in one report that there was significant damage to the back side of the roof but they sent me a letter saying there was no sign of any hail damage.
Meanwhile, neighbors on both sides of me are getting new roofs on their house. State Farm claims office pretty much told me to go blank myself and not call them back.
As far as automobile insurance they are fantastic. They have always paid with no problems.
I am shopping around for new homeowners and automobile insurance.
I absolutely would NOT NOT NOT recommend anyone to state farm.
Biggest con artists in the insurance industry. They'll throw you into an insurance pot with every DUI/ Drug addict who has minimal insurance and base your price and claims along with these idiots.
I called State Farms on a matter. I kept getting transferred from one person to another. After the third transfer, the person "helping" me was obviously not happy doing her job. Her tone of voice and words showed total disregard for my problem. At the end I asked to be transferred to her manager or anyone else which she avoided by placing and then telling me they couldn't help me.
They'll send you claim to an "investigator" if you've had another claim a few years ago. No questions asked.
The adjusters try to use manipulative tactics by bullying the customer. For instance, when I told her how I thought the theft occurred, she replied, "haha, really?" Yes, really. Annoying. It's quite obvious they're trained to make you feel like crap while you're the victim.
I would not recommend even for $5/mo.
Adjuster screens calls through voicemail and doesn't respond to my attorneys. Its a simple auto claim. I resent having to sue and if they don't respond, we'll have to go after the driver. So what good is it for him to spend on insurance if they hide when called upon. They're a terrible partner in driving. PS. This is going on for a year
I wanted to purchase my home in Tampa Florida. I called and got a quote from Seth Plato. The quote was for $3200 a year. I accepted the pool, and they sent out an inspector after they told me they were not going to send out one. After the inspection, the inspector said that I needed to get new electrical wires and fuse box both inside and out which cost $12,000. I had the house rewired it took a week. I then closed on my house and thought everything was fine. Seth calls me up and says that they are going to raise my insurance $600 which was totally unacceptable. They then send another inspector out a few weeks later and the inspector said that I needed to repair a crack and paint the house, this should've been brought to my attention prior to closing on the house in the first place intern cost me more money. The insurance company is State Farm and the actual insurance is through citizens bank. And all the years that I owned home insurance I've never had to go through this. This is the worst home insurance company that I've ever had to deal with and will be looking for a different insurance company in the near future.
Do not get StateFarm for homeowners insurance. I had a large hail storm with hail up to two inches in size and they are denying roof damage as old due to being the wrong color even though I have video and photo evidence of the hail and documentation of no hail damage from before the storm from two different companies.
I gave them a photo of one of the hail stones after it had melted a lot, I didn't want to run out in hail, and they seem to think this will not cause damage since in the denial they say zero damage even though the adjuster was pointing out damage to me.
Absolutely horrible experience. I have been a State Farm client for 17 years... Never been in an accident. Someone backed into my vehicle in the parking lot where I reside. There was a witness statement, police report and footage of the incident however, because the witness (for unknown reasons) did not want to make a recorded statement for State Farm, the claim was denied (the party who hit my vehicle was also a State Farm client)... My vehicle will not be repaired unless I pay for it. I had no fault in this whatsoever so I'm questioning what have I been paying for all these years? To top it off, I'm the one who had to pay for and submit the police report and footage, they did absolutely nothing to reach out to the officer or police department in order to obtain the footage. They definitely do not care about their clientele, just another greedy business, in my opinion.

My family was canceled by State Farm. We had a few accidents. Two at fault and one not at fault. At the time my stepdaughter had her accident, she didn't reside with us. I've had State Farm since my first car in 1985. My wife had them for 24 years. We had a bit of bad luck, and the underwriters canceled us. Years of a clean record and on time payments only to be put out like trash. I guess longevity doesn't mean anything with this insurance company, nor empathy. I can understand if I hit them up with a claim every year. One would think they'd see if there's a pattern to accidents claimed over a period of time. Not a small time frame compared to the number of years a person has been good with them. They don't balance out. What a shame.
I HATE giving a star at all... they can't even explain their bill‍ Rude, got hung up on 3 times, they have no care for customer service or support. How they going to send my info to penndot stating I had no insurance but try to bill me for the same month! WTF
A couple weeks after starting insurance with State Farm, I received a letter that my original insurance quote was incorrect and I needed to pay $311.31 more. I spoke to two agents and no one would explain the reason for the increase. I quickly jumped back to my previous insurance company which was cheaper than State Farm. What a complete waste of time.
Not a single claim in my life until a storm. Terrible service, trying to cheat me, low ball me, delay payment. Water poured through my roof.
If you all think SF is hard to deal with on auto issues you better pray that your house doesn't burn down...Ours did and it's been a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE dealing with SF...We had a total loss and found out the 200k worth of contents insurance that we paid for was a lie... If you don't have a picture or receipts for everything in the house, then you get nothing...They don't just right you a check for 200k...the things you can prove you had They depreciate it so much its unbelievable...I'm just at a loss for words...My wife and I stood in the neighbors yard and watched our home burn to the ground, now I think the biggest nightmare of the whole thing was dealing with SF...The adjuster came to the house the following morning and saw it was a total loss, yet anytime we have received anything from them they mail it to the burned down house so it has to be forwarded and takes us longer to receive it...They have the address of our rental since they are paying for it so why not send it there so we can get back on our feet...they say allow 7-10 days to receive anything they mail...WTF, are they mailing it pony express...I think I should have 7-10 days to pay my bill to them...Total $#*!s
After almost 20 years of being a State Farm customer, I will be moving on to another insurance carrier. I took my car to be repaired at a State Farm preferred body shop after a collision with a deer. Traumatizing! The repair shop didn't submit all the needed repairs to State Farm in an effort to cut corners and still do the work just barely under the threshold of my vehicle being totaled. When I went to pick up my car, the engine light was on, my instrument panel wasn't working, and my sunroof liner was still sagging inside the vehicle. The repair shop relayed to State Farm that such issues were "pre-existing" issues. This claim was totally untrue. I ended up taking my vehicle to the dealership to fix the electrical issues that did not exist prior to the accident. It was determined at the dealership that those issues were a result of unsavory work performed at the body shop. The final issue was the sunroof liner. The body shop still insisted it was a pre-existing condition. I contacted State Farm directly with my concern. They told me unless I had a photo of the liner intact before the accident, they would stand by the report of the body shop because the shop is on their preferred list. How absurd! My only request was that they send a State Farm representative to look at the sunroof. They would not comply, and I was told that if I need to change insurance companies, they would understand. As a result, I am now financially responsible for this outstanding repair to my vehicle. So, no I would not recommend State Farm as an insurance carrier. They were NOT "like a good neighbor." They were NOT "there" for me as a customer. If you do select them, make sure you take a picture of your vehicle intact right before you anticipate an accident. Absurd!
They added something to my account and will not tell me what it is. Very uneithical practices. The agent is an a... Customer service did nothing but waste my time and can not figure out why my rate is over what it was the previous months.
Fraud
0 stars! Believe me if I did have give 1 star you wouldn't have gotten it! State Farm is full of crap! Their policy holder hit my daughter and admitted it on 2/07/2023 he actually said he hit my daughter. It took them about thirty minutes to take my daughter statement over the phone on 2/20/2023 I called today they said they hadn't gotten his statement yet, less then ten minutes later all of sudden they got it and saying he wasn't at fault so guess what they not paying! I got to pay though my insurance! The agent said I got to have more proof, what more proof you need when he said he did it and he told the police he did! He tried to keep her from getting over by speeding up and you can clearly see it in the photos that I uploaded to them but they can't find now! State Farm y'all got a bunch of BS going on!
This is one of the largest Ins comp in the world I Dislike State Farm's Have been waiting for the Discount since 2 years Agent change for almost 9 months Customer service are Amazing Liars They Lie and Lie will not recommend them to my Dog Sad sad sad lying Unprofessional People
I never had a claim so can't evaluate that. However, every year they increased my rates (25% not unusual) until switching companies became the obvious best move for me. They overcharge.
6:30 AM on 11/27/22 my daughter was in an accident where she saw the other car driving erratically and increasing speed on a dead end road, so she pulled aside and stopped her car. The other car continued almost as if aiming for her car. The other driver admitted to staying out all night and falling asleep at the wheel so clearly admitted fault.
My daughter hit her face on the dash and will now have a permanent scar on her face. Horrible!
Unfortunately, she has the same insurance "State Farm" so State Farm is running all my daughters claim thru my insurance. This is wrong. Deductible out of pocket? They are clearly low balling the car as well even after I've submitted 100 receipts of car parts we added to the car when we rebuilt the engine to enhance the value as a high-performance engine.
So now she's out her car and permanent scar, and they want to low ball me and short me by 5K on the car.
I'm really at my wits end with the fact that they are running the claim $#*! backwards.
Answer: Scam. They are terrible. Will take money from you and not explain why My grandpa has been with State Farm insurance since the 1960's. We have had great service up until the last 6 years. Everyone has always told me they were shit and told me all bad things about them but I always stood up for them. Well I'm here to say that was a slap in the face. We have filed a total of 8 claims this whole 60 years he's been with them. 3 for car wrecks, 1 being our fault, 1 being both parties fault, and the other one being the other parties fault but they did not have insurance so State Farm had to cover it. Another claim was when my car got stolen. There's was $1500 of damage done to it when it was stolen. THEY SPENT $15,000 FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS BRINGING IN STATE FARM LAWYERS AND INVESTIGATORS TO TRY TO PROVE MY DAUGHTERS DAD AND I WERE LYING ABOUT IT GETTING STOLEN. MIND YOU IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY $1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY TREATED US LIKE CRIMINALS AND RACIALLY PROFILED MY DAUGHTERS DAD, EVEN TRIED TO GET US PUT IN JAIL FOR FRAUD. BUT GUESS WHAT THEY COULDN'T BECAUSE WE DID NOT LIE, IT WAS NOT FRAUD, MY CAR REALLY GOT STOLLEN. They are ignorant and even belittled me so much it made me cry. WHICH INFURIATED my grandpa and he confronted our representative about it and he said "there's nothing I can do that's what they do to people" They have lied to us multiple times. They cancelled my road side assistance because I had 2 incidences "too close together" We pay by the 6 months. I pay for my cars I own and my grandpa pays for the other cars because we are on a family plan. Well last time it was due it was $800 each for my cars. It's usually $600 each. I thought it was a one time thing and I paid it. But then I got another bill for $800 for the 6 months for each car. So I asked my insurance representative why it went up $200. He said he didn't know and he couldn't figure out why. There was also nothing he could do about it. They also called us and told us we were late on an insurance payment (again we pay by the 6 months) but they called 5 months into this last payment (that was most definitely paid I have plenty of proof) and said we were late on that payment. Why would you just now be contacting us if we were 5 months late on a payment and we still have coverage. So she went back through her system and called us said that she was "wrong" that it popped up it is due next month and she thought that meant we missed a payment. Is she dumb or what? Then proceeded to tell us we were 2 car payments past due. Which isn't true. And how would she know if it had been true. We never have been late on a payment. We are actually 2 months ahead on every car payment we have. So I called the bank that gave us the loan for this car and they said they have not communicated with State Farm at all. That that would be illegal to do without our consent. That when someone calls about an account, they have to verify they are that person, and then everything that is discussed and done is written in the notes of that phone call and put with that account so they can go back and look for future reference and such. I know someone that recently stopped working for them and she said I quote "I will not work for a company that is dishonest, deceives, doesn't care about their clients, tries to screw them over, does NOT act in way insurance companies should or any company should, and treats people like criminals. We are here to help not to screw people over. But State Farm does just that. Their clients pay extremely high prices but cant use their insurance half the time because State Farm is trash and wants to fight every claim that's filed. I have morals and values and working for them makes me look bad. I can't believe the things they are doing to people and the way they are treating people. I WILL not work for a company that is more than greedy, takes advantage of people and manipulates people. I'm thinking about calling the Better Business Bureau and I encourage you all to as well!" I know for a fact (from another person I know that currently works there and is getting ready to quit because of that horrible things State Farm does) that they will do absolutely anything and add fake charges to people's bills just to get extra money. So with that being said STATE FARM THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TO SAY TO YOU FOR SCREWING ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS OVER (especially ones like my family that have been with you for 60 plus years) AND NOT DOING RIGHT BY US. SCREW YOU. I HOPE THE WHOLE COMPANY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS AND IT REALLY SHOWS WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE YALL ARE. **Remember when you said you would drop me if I filed a very very small claim WELL HERES ME DROPPING YOU HORRIBLE PEOPLE.
