Our experience was like the rest. They quoted low and happily took a deposit. A few days later we confirmed inventory with photos and surprise, the estimate went up $3k. We reluctantly agreed and gave then a second deposit. The movers delayed a few times and eventually arrived on a Sunday afternoon with a car hauler. It wasn't exactly the 26' moving van they said we would get. By the way, a trailer will not make it to our new home because of the switchbacks and they knew that. They even said they looked at Google Maps to confirm. When asked, they said the trailer is just to shuttle our items to a semi and if I needed a shuttle on the other end we would have to pay. They wanted $4.4K more than we previously agreed and said it would be $6k to unload. We sent them on their way because we didn't want to pay $15k to move a 2 car garage. We tried to get a refund since they broke the contract many times in our minds but we're told we actually broke the contract when we refused to pay more money.
I can even express how much we feel scammed out of $3200. Please listen and find someone else. We're happy to join any Class Action suits that are out there.
We are very happy with the service that we receved from Southern Guarantee Moving. Professional and punctual, and very much on the ball.
Spoke to Ben Mallard at Southern Guarantee about a move for my son. After giving me a high number I said No and he continues to contact me with lower numbers which felt a bit shady. We settled on 1599 for a one bedroom apt. I paid them a deposit of 579 only through bank they don't accept credit cards red flag Number 1. Leading up to move I would txt Ben about my son being on the third floor. No problem and NO charge Ben would say all good! Day before move I too got the call from Mathew Higgins that wanted to double the estimate. I told him no way forget the whole thing he quickly bactracked and said he would leave it as it was. I get an email from ES VANLINES Tamira Parsons. I call her about the move she too says not to worry it there will be no extra charges and she has trucks and a crew for the move. Moving day 1 guy Robert arrives 3 hours late in a budget truck by himself! Shows us the space we are allowed in the truck and it's 2 feet wide and the height of the truck. Truck is empty at this point. He wants 700 more dollars for the move. After a lot of hesitation we sign his paper and give him 600 cash while he waits for his helpers to come. He then got in his truck and drove off with our cash! A helper shows up said he was contacted on Craig's ljst to help out. We call cops they say it's a civil matter I disagree sir a THEFT just occurred. I call Tamira Parsons she says we signed his receipt so cops can't do anything. Clearly she is skilled at this robbery scam. Call SOUTHERN Guarantee speak to Stacy who says it's not their problem won't give back deposit and I should call movers about stolen cash. LEARN FROM this. Real movers give you an exact price by coming to your home or virtually seeing your items. NO BROKERS involved. All the players in this scheme are linked to many different company names that pop up until they get in trouble then open under another name! Disgraceful
I COULD MAKE THIS REVIEW VERY LONG BUT I'LL GET TO THE POINT TO SAVE SOMEONE FROM THE MESS I'M DEALING WITH.
If you value your time, money, and belongings, PLEASE do not book with this company.
First of all, know that they are a broker and do not move the items themselves so you honestly have no idea or control over what company will pick up your items until the day they show up.
The salespeople are great at selling you a lie. I told Kayden the contents of my 1 BR. Whatever system they use to gauge the amount of space your stuff takes up is flawed! The company that actually picked up my items basically doubled the estimated cubic footage and I was paying them 40% more than what I was quoted. And this is after re-confirming my items the week of the move.
If they tell you a delivery date, they WILL NOT deliver on that day. I was told my items would be delivered on a day and even set up a time. 1 month later I finally got a call from an independent driver that picked up my things and told me he was hours away. After having to call the subcontracted company every week and them telling me my items had not been picked up yet. Horrible communication from the company.
Finally, my items arrived A MESS. You can see in the pictures that boxes are completely destroyed, vacuum seal bags busted, and the corners of my metal TV console and wooden bar stools are worn. Nothing marked fragile was handled with care and they sent a random man with a truck to drop my items off. I also have to go and clean and sort through a storage unit now due to their carelessness. I'm stressed just thinking about it.
I wish I'd used a pod or honestly even done a uhaul on my own. It would've been $2000 much better spent. PLEASE BEWARE and learn from my mistake.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! First of all, they're a broker company, which I didn't realize until it was too late. Second, the only thing this company "guarantees" is a lot of stress and tears. They got me to book my move with them by acting like they were going to offer me a good deal. I was told by James that as long as I did not exceed 60 boxes I would not be charged more. Then, once my movers arrived, they loaded all of my items on the truck and told me it was going to cost $700 beyond my estimate, and I either had to pay it or pay $1500 to cancel and take my items off the truck. I was just moving my bedroom, 26 boxes and my bed/dresser/nightstands/laundry basket. I was on the phone with them through the entire pick-up process, clearly upset and feeling taken advantage of and Nick advised me to go forward with the move. After I signed off on it I read a bit more of my contract and their website and realized that what they did was ILLEGAL. I was then informed to take photos of everything I signed with the movers and send it to southern guarantee for review, which was supposed to take 72 hours. It took them two weeks after delivery to get back to me, and once I finally got in touch with someone they told me there was nothing they could do since I paid and the move was complete. I have never felt more taken advantage of or lied to. This company wants your money and couldn't care less about anything beyond that, and Sam made that very clear to me. Overall horrible experience, PLEASE DO RESEARCH AND BOOK WITH A GOOD COMPANY WITH GOOD MORALS AND VALUES! If you have already booked with this company, and are just now seeing the reviews, I promise you cutting your losses with the deposit will be worth it.
DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY. They are absolutely terrible! They are a carrier and your bill is tripe when movers arrive!
BEWARE! We are moving my parents to Fl. We signed a binding moving est. On 4/25/22. We were given our list of items (51 pc) for a certain price. We were asked to wait until 7/22 to move bc they already have a delivery in the area.
A week before we received an email stating our move was scheduled for 7/22 & we would receive a call on 7/21. NOPE! We did not receive a call the morning of p/up. When we called customer service, they would say the driver would call us shortly. We waited all day. At 7:30pm, we received a call from the driver. He stated that they just received the request from S. G. Moving & he would not be able to pickup the items until late afternoon on 7/23. Because the new home owners were scheduled to move in on 7/23, we had to move my parents items to the garage & driveway. The driver finally arrived at 5pm. At the time of signing our contract, we were not told of a 3rd party driver.
As they started to load the items on the truck, we realized they had no moving blankets. They only came with wrap. My parent's furniture is wrapped in plastic with no blankets. In addition, they start talking about cu. F. I told them this did not apply to us because we have a set amount. This is when we learned of the scam the company was running. The amount ended up costing $4K over quote. They can't tell us when they will arrive. We were told in April it would be door to door (F-M). Another lie!
When I called to complain about the additional fees & delivery, I was told this company was not Amazon. They had no projection time of delivery. I mentioned the door/door promise. He told me that employee was let go. He said he wasn't responsible for the additional cost. I asked for the owners' name. He said; "you don't go to Chilis & get the owner's name". I asked for his boss' name, he hung up. There is no way they can be rated a 2.73. Moving multiple times in the military and this is the worst. The employee indicated their business is "just fine". I am not sure how?
My wife and I mistakenly agreed to sign a binding estimate with Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage without checking on their reputation with the Better Business Bureau as well as numerous customer reviews on several websites. Before you sign or pay anything to Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage, do yourself a favor and read the numerous customer complaints. First, you need to know that Southern Guarantee is only a broker, they don't do any actual moving. Their estimate includes the statement "... please read Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move, and Ready to Move Brochure provided by the moving company and seek further information at the government website www.protectyourmove.gov".
After reading these documents, I quickly realized there were several red flags associated with Southern Guarantee. First, Southern Guarantee did not provide us a list of the carriers they contract with. Based on customer reviews and photos of damaged goods, I believe this is because they do not want their customers looking them up in advance. The brochure states that you need to check whether the interstate mover is registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and has a U.S. Department of Transportation number. It's difficult to do that if you don't know what the company's name is. As of 13 August, 2022, Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage has 67 complaints and a grade of "F" on the Better Business Bureau website and a score of 1 out of 5 on Yelp. They are not a BBB-accredited business. When I called to ask them me who they had tentatively contracted our move with, they refused to tell me. The second red flag was when their contracted carrier contacted me and stated that he would be showing up in three days (on the wrong date) to start loading and packing. The gentlemen who called me would not tell me the name of his company and stated that they would have our 4-bedroom home packed and loaded in a single day. The third red flag was when I offered to pay the carrier to visit our home in advance of the move to confirm our weight and cubic feet requirements he said it was a waste of time. I later find out this same carrier has 18 years of scamming people out of their belongings and threatening to unload or keep their belongings unless he receives more money. His reputation with at least six different moving companies in at least three different States had been following him since 2004 in New York.
Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage has a rating of 2.8 stars from 280 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage most frequently mention customer service, cubic feet and actual movers. Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage ranks 6th among Moving Service sites.
