Everything you read about Skillshare and how it has deceived a lot of people are true. Experienced it first hand and boy, i am now full of regrets I continued signing up on this site. The mere fact that I already cancelled my free trial before it ended, Skillshare still charged me for a full annual membership fee! I sent tons of email and tried to contact them to whatever platform I could find my I got no response at all. I recommend you try udemy, its cheaper, better customer service or just go to youtube, its free.
I wrote to Skillshare one last time, and it seems like in the past 4 months they have really upped their customer service game. I received a same-day response apologizing for my previous experience and with an offer to refund me all my money. This gesture was more than I expected, and I am grateful to know that people do actually work at this company, and it seems they are listening to the negative reviews and trying to create a better company. I still have a sour taste in my mouth, but I feel like after they ended up giving me all my money back I should update my review and give them more than one star.
I signed up for Skillshare as a free trial. The day BEFORE my trial was supposed to end I received an email from them thanking me for subscribing to Premium. Naturally, I was confused. It's normal for companies to offer free trials in hopes that you like the product enough to actually pay for it. What isn't normal is for the company to LIE to you and charge you the day before the free trial is supposed to even end, in effect tricking you and then stealing your money. I was furious.
I looked online and after 30 minutes of digging I found a phone number for the company. (Red flag, what legitimate company does not have an easily accessible customer service number?). I called this number and it went directly to voicemail. The voice on the voicemail sounded like some stoned college kid, complete with "ums" and "likes". (Red flag number 2). At this point I was freaking out because I had just gotten scammed. The only option left to me was to write them an email through their website. This was over 3 months ago, and I have yet to get a response.
I am appalled that they handle business this way. They stole my money without warning and are now unreachable. I went back on their website and even their advertisement for Premium is a lie. It clearly states that your Premium account is cancelable at anytime. What they actually mean is you can cancel it so that it won't renew at the next billing cycle (which is an entire year!). They are crooks. If their content were any good, I would have happily continued using their services, but all their videos are things I can find on YouTube or other places for free.
The only thing I an do now is save other people the hassle. DO NOT sign up for the free trial. Go to Lynda.com or YouTube. Please, don't make the same mistake I did, and stay away!
I forgot about the trial period, because contrary to what they say they don't let you know when it's coming to an end.
I asked for my refund because as stated on their website you can get a refund until 7 days after the payment. They told me they would look into it and never replied.
My son signed up for the free trial and forgot about it, he didn't really find the courses interesting. Two months later he was charged for the premium membership. Luckily we saw it before the seven days period and he contacted Skillshare and they sent an email promptly and refunded the full amount 2 days later..
Guys, I like the classes on skill share but what the hell, my account has been deactivated and there has been no further contact from the support team other than the initial contact. I mean I like going through the classes here and as far my knowledge I haven't done anything outrageous. I checked credit info and it's alright. What you guys take money from willing customers and butcher them too? The classes are really good, I miss them.
I believe in open education platform, and know that this requires money to function. But if I cancel my account, I should expect that my account is cancelled, that I don't discover that my account has been over drawn while I'm trying to buy groceries for the week. Just like most others here, I'm quite disappointed. I DO NOT recommend this service only on the basis of their shadey billing practices.
EDIT: Skill share did refund my money back within a few days, and we're helpful with that process. I personally don't recommend them to anyone with to access to YouTube and wikipedia, with a self drive to learn. Otherwise they might be useful for you.
I know that the deadline for free access expired and i got charged without any warning or at least an email or something. It's my own fault for not looking up at least some information about this site before giving them my credit card information.
But! As a student, I don't have a lot of money and would really want to eat something this month that isn't bread and water.
You could at least tell me is there any way to pay this stuff monthly or something.
It would be really nice to at least get some feedback information if I can at least try to cancel that and get my money back because I still have a year left and I haven't even watched any course.

The structures of tree house courses were really well designed. They don't assume you know anything and hold your hand every step of the way. The courses also evolve into building real world applications, with room to expand if you're feeling confident.
Keep referring to the class content even after you complete the class.
Learn at your own pace, and do all homework and quizzes. Re-watch
Videos if needed. Try to complete "with highest distinction" (grade >
90%), it's entirely possible.
SkillShare classes were part of a whole bunch of online classes I took
In AI, machine learning and data science.
I truly would, and have, recommended Skillshare to people. There are excellent instructors and supportive community. As an older learner who is coming back to art in a new technology driven world, the classes have been so helpful. Most of all, I can see progress in my work. Thank you, Skillshare!
I feel you can find most of the stuff Skillshare has online for free through other online services such as YouTube. Also, be aware your membership auto-renews so if you paid you only have 7 days to contact them for a refund.
I love skillshare. Not only do they have a wide variety of classes to chose from, the classes are short... to the point and easy to consume. I have learnt a lot in the design field which has been great for my business and creative journey. Would highly recommend to people who want to learn new skills but like their learning in bite-sized pieces rather than long drawn out courses that cost a fortune.
