Shutterfly's reputation reflects a mix of strong product quality and significant customer service challenges. Many users appreciate the quality of photo books and personalized items, often highlighting the durability of products. However, recurring complaints about service delays, order inaccuracies, and inadequate customer support overshadow these positives. Customers frequently report issues with refunds, communication breakdowns, and technical difficulties on the platform. This blend of satisfaction with product quality and frustration over service reliability suggests a need for Shutterfly to enhance its customer service approach to improve overall customer experience and retention.

Worst customer satisfaction I have ever experienced, they are not here to please the paying customer and when I complained they offered the suggestion that I return the product to them and they would issue me a 50% refund what the heck
Every week they're giving away free things. Wonderful. Until you get to your cart and see that shipping costs more than it would to buy a piece of furniture and have it delivered. Not complaining that I'm not getting a free item, my complaint is how misleading it is and how dishonest. The item isn't free and shipping doesn't cost that much. They are just moving the price under "shipping. To add that their photo quality is very poor and their site very difficult to navigate.
Maybe if Shutterfly didn't depend on poorly trained, overworked temps for 98% of its workforce they wouldn't be losing business and have such an ugly reputation. You get what you pay for... and that include employees... though actual 'employees' are in the minority, the majority are underpaid, no benefits, mislead (if not actually lied to) temps from Corestaff... Customers are a nuisance to be gotten off the phone as quickly as possible-customer service staff get 'dinged' for being on the phone too long with individual customer-it's all about quantity, not quality, you can't make your 'numbers' if you are busy listening to and helping one customer with questions or finding a resolution to the problem-the goal is to get that person off the line fast and get to the next customer in queue. A lot of people that work at Shutterfly would like to do a better job, they just don't have the 'luxury' of having the time to do that... the others that don't care are in management and upper executive positions.
The photobooks have easy to use templates that definitely save you time in the long run; however, they have a photo limit that is not explained upfront. I had ~40 pages left in my book, but could not fill them up. When I contacted customer service, they gave me a free book, but then tried to take it away upon use. I had three different phone calls. It was such a waste of time. And they ended up giving me a starter book only. Just a lot of time/cost waste. I would not recommend them for photobook projects. Just stick to your word, Shutterfly.
I ordered Christmas cards in November... never received them. I contacted customer service and requested a refund and never received it. I had received a new chip debit card but they said the refund would still go to the account. It never did. I will never do business with them again.
My mother has me create a calendar for the grandparents every Christmas and has it sent out. After five years, we aren't doing this anymore. Shutterfly, for the third time in a row, delayed our package. It was supposed to come early December and my mom is making calls mid January trying to obtain the package. The customer service was impossible to reach and a terrible help. She dealt with them three different times and a month later still nothing. They're unprofessional and ridiculous. We will be taking our business else where.
My print was delivered damage. It appears to have happened during shipping as the envelope was heavily damaged. It was incredibly important to me to have a replacement quickly... in less than 48 hours. Well, Shutterfly rallied and produced the print to my door! Everyone was professional and understood the urgency. I am delighted
If you don't live in US, most of their deals will not apply despite what the website claims. Website is extremely misleading. Small print disclaimers are scattered across the website. You would have to spend hours reading and playing detective to figure ou what you're not getting
I downloaded the Shutterfly app because they had a promotion going on photo books and I recently took a family vacation and custom made each family a book (4 all together). It took HOURS. And shutterfly did not have a lot of creative options like other sites had. I finally placed my order, waited 3 weeks and finally called and a girl just told me nonchalantly that she saw I placed the order on my mobile but that they need me to re-do it again from a computer. WHAT? So 1) Your app is a joke. 2) Your technology is a joke that you can't retrieve my old projects. 3) Your customer service is a joke. 4) You didn't even call to tell me? A mess of a company. Save yourself the anguish and waste of time. Use literally anyone else.
When Shutterfly claims that things are free, it's a lie. Check their shipping prices! Absolutely outrageous that they do that to loyal customers! Go to your local Walgreens and you will pay the same amount!
Ordered Christmas cards. They never arrived. They said they would resend. That never happened. Asked for refund. Still waiting. Never use them again
I ordered express shipping on Baby Shower invitations. Got a email stating they were en route and they never arrived. They emailed me telling me wait 3 more days they will resend. No thanks give me a refund and they don't even care they ruined this ugh I'm too upset
I tried Shutterfly briefly 5 years ago & cancelled because it took SO much time to figure out their system. This week I joined again... after spending HOURS to make a simple book, I ordered another(promised 50% discount). The process was confusing & after painstakingly choosing 90 photos for a book, they spent an hour 'Uploading' & vanished! Also, after ordering FREE photos, I got to the end of the order to find $22.00 Shipping charge! They are sleazy & a waste of time. I'm done! Wish I'd read the many negative reviews before wasting my time... HOURS! Back to Walgreens for me!
I recently ordered 101 pictures through a promotion on Shutterfly. I spent hours flipping through pictures to select 101. Got the pictures and the quality is not clear, and almost every single picture looks cropped or zoomed in. Most of the pictures are garbage because no one wants a zoomed in picture of their face taking up the entire picture. For example, I had an original picture of myself and 2 family members. Everyone's full face was in the picture, down to about mid chest. In the print I got from shutterfly the picture was zoomed in on mainly the center person, and only half of each face was shown for the people standing on the end. Not happy.
I had to replace two different orders at my own expense because this company did not care about their errors.
When your company makes calendars and the order goes out with the days of the week out of order the customer deserves the problem fixed. Not only that the new calendars need to be sent to the family members who received them as gifts. That is not the way Shutterfly sees it. After hours on the phone to rectify the problem caused by Shutterfly (not by me) I was told that I would have to pay for the shipping to my relatives. BUT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE COMPANY"S NEGLIGENCE.
When you have a problem with your Order, and I can almost guarantee that you will experience some issue when dealing with this incompetent organization, you will receive absolutely no customer service.
They will likely promise you a refund - You will NEVER see it! I am appalled by the unprofessionalism of this organization.
I ordered New Year's cards from Shutterly. In fact, I spent some time choosing a design, etc. - only to find that they came with a bunch of numbers and "ordered at Shutterfly (shutterfly.com)" printed across the middle of the back of the the card where I had planned to write messages to friends. NOWHERE ON THE WEBSITE DID IT INFORM ME AS A CONSUMER (OR SHOW ME IN PREVIEW MODE) THAT THIS WOULD BE THE CASE - THAT PART OF ORDERING FROM SHUTTERFLY IS ADVERTISING FOR THEM. When I called to protest, I was told I could send them back and get the charge removed, but they refused to agree to pay for shipping them back... not to mention the headache of getting to the P. O. and to designing a new card. I PLAN TO FIND A DIFFERENT VENDOR TO DO BUSINESS WITH NEXT TIME AND URGE YOU TO DO THE SAME.
Back in 2015 I ordered a Mom color blocks mug which came out great. Pictures were clear, the blocks were crystal clear and clean looking. This year I ordered a Dad blocks mug and my photos were grainy (and they were high resolution photos) and the blocks themselves were also grainy and not crystal clear/clean looking. I emailed Shutterfly and their response was to just send another mug. The second one has the same grainy problems and this time the photos were darker! I will never order a mug from Shutterfly again.
I ordered a photo book and a 11 x 14 framed cardstock print from Shutterfly on 12/29. The framed print finally arrived today... with no glass. The quality of the printing is cheap and terrible. They offered to replace the print on an expedited basis, but they say it will still take a week. No word as to when the photo book will arrive.
There are plenty of fast and reliable photo printing services out there. I will not do business with Shutterfly again.
