Shutterfly's reputation reflects a mix of strong product quality and significant customer service challenges. Many users appreciate the quality of photo books and personalized items, often highlighting the durability of products. However, recurring complaints about service delays, order inaccuracies, and inadequate customer support overshadow these positives. Customers frequently report issues with refunds, communication breakdowns, and technical difficulties on the platform. This blend of satisfaction with product quality and frustration over service reliability suggests a need for Shutterfly to enhance its customer service approach to improve overall customer experience and retention.

The MyPublisher program that my whole family and I had came to love is gone replaced by this disaster "sister"company. That is what I was told when I called them and asked where all my MyPublisher photos, projects and options(book sizes) had disappeared to with the take over by Shutterfly. Now after taking the time again (as children expect their year book of memories) to relearn the system- they lose my item by taking a short cut and employing USPS to deliver from UPS to Miami- really! USPS has again lost the item and their solution is to recreate and send out again by this week- and although that would be great if it was a pair of shoes- ITS NOT, instead it's my sweet daughters photos for who-knows-who to receive. Very sad and scary! Find another company or pay for the highest end shipping if you want to protect your purchases.
I start an album and then can't begin to figure out how to get photos in it. It is the worst application I've ever encountered! I always give up!
Once I messed up my order they fixed it free of charge and helped me upload my picture within their guidelines before i order a new blanket.
Recommending this site to everyone I know!
I used to be a huge fan of Shutterfly, but ever since they have re-designed the website, I hate it. It is very confusing & no longer easy to use:-(
Customer service at Shutterfly is HORRIFIC. After taking the time to create a photo book (the learning curve was a bit steep :)) , I finally attempted to place an order. It was difficult as I originally started on the website, but was required to download an app to customize the book. I was presented with numerous free offers and they looked great but I had to go to the app to get them. Another download... The two orders didnt sync and I eventually gave up on the free items. I placed the order. On my confirmation order I realized it had ordered two books, not one. I called customer service for help. The representative was rude, uncaring, and interrupted me. He kept telling me he would cancel my order and I needed to place the order again. I asked if he would stay on the phone to help. He told me if I would actually listen to him I would be helped! I requested a different representative at that time and told him he was rude. He then placed me on hold until the company closed (about 5 min) when I was promptly disconnected with a call back during business hours message! WHAT?!?
At that point I went back to the website (not either app!) and was able to figure out how to correct my order. My 13 year old IT guy (also known as my son!) helped. I emailed Shutterflys customer service and shared the experience. They responded quickly. The response? My order appeared correct, sorry for the inconvenience, let them know if I have questions! Again, WHAT?!? Just because I fixed my order myself, all was well? Wrong. I cant believe it is okay to treat a paying customer so disrespectfully. To add insult, my free items increased shipping costs exponentially. For a free notebook and deck of playing cards. Not so free! Hopefully the items will be of quality.
If you are looking for a website with a learning curve, multiple apps to download, saving projects on said apps to go back to the website to order, crazy shipping costs, and exceptionally rude customer service representatives, go to Shutterfly! Otherwise I am positive there are better sites.
Terrible service! Do not use. I ordered Christmas cards on Dec. 12 and they have been delayed to Dec. 26 then Jan 2 and now to Jan. 9th. After struggling to find a phone number for them I finally got through to a live person who said my order was probably lost. In addition they charged my credit card almost $20 more than my invoice was as it was in US $ which was not explained when I placed my order. I've cancelled my order and now have to wait 10 days for a refund. Since I place my order I have talked to many people who have had similar problems. DO NOT USE SHUTTERFLY IF YOU ARE IN CANADA!
Shutterfly stated my order was shipped on Dec 1 en route to Canada. They said it would be here Dec 14 2017. This was a Christmas gift. Not yet received. I called Dec 15th and the order was replaced but would not make it by Christmas. The second order was due to arrive yesterday. Both orders are still not here. Today is Jan 4th 2018.
Shutterfly states that they have no way of tracking deliveries to Canada
Product was paid for including other costs, shipping etc. I am out $250 CND! I routinely order from many American companies (Sephora, Victoria Secret etc.) and not once have I experienced anything like this!
I wish i would have learned more about them before placing an order. I naively assumed because they are so generous on the Ellen DeGeneres show that they were a company of credibility. I think the reason they are able to donate may be because of so many orders not being fulfilled on their part, easy money for them. What a pathetic strategy!
The delivery date they give you is false, and they do not provide a great tracking service either. These ornaments were meant for gifts... now we are in the new year and I still don't have them. What a waste of time.
I love the stuff I love all the freebies they also put out. I am shocked to see so many horrible reviews been using them for years and they have always been wonderful.
I would give 0 stars, if I could. Spent several hours over many, many days making 2 calendars for grandparents (their favorite gift every year!) Paid for expedited shipping and was GUARANTEED delivery by December 22nd. Received 2 more emails with December 22nd delivery. On December 23rd I tracked my package. Although as of the morning of the 22nd, it's about 30 miles from my house, the new "estimated" delivery date is December 26th! For "2 day shipping!" 2 day shipping turned into maybe 6 day shipping! (Of course they never contacted me that my guaranteed package was going to be at least 4 days late!) Unless you have an open ended amount of time, do not order! Went on Walgreens website, made a calendar, picked it up 2 hours later. So sad the grandparents won't receive a gift on Christmas and since they leave to go back home on Christmas night, I'll have to spend more $ to ship it to them as a late gift! So disappointed!
They engage in deceptive advertising, their apps are not what they claim and dont let them pressure you with short deadlines sales like, hurry for 40% off when itll be 50% the next day. Which is not a great deal as they are horribly over-priced. I personally wrestled with their damn app for days, finely sent off the book with rush shipping (within the by Xmas deadline) only to find out it will not arrive by Xmas. Contacted customer service, who did not care. Didnt even apologize. Ruined my Christmas plans. Will NEVER trust or use this site again. There are other options.
If you want to spend hours loading photos and then receive your calendar with the photos turned sideways and heads cropped out, this is your place. Can't wait for August where my wife is walking on the beach... upside down. Just threw out 2 calendars... and $30.12/23/17
Paid extra for *guaranteed* shipping to get it by Christmas. Delivery was supposed to be by 12/22. The package ships on 12/22 and won't be here until after Christmas. In what sense is this a guarantee?! It seems to me that they're obligated to ship it next day air and have it here by 12/23. Awful! Won't buy from them again!
Ordered cards and paid extra for fast shipping. Was given an email confirmation with a guaranteed delivery on 12/22/17. Then got an email that my order had shipped on 12/20/17 (did not notice right away that the email now said 'estimated' delivery). Clicked on the track it on Shutterfly and then used the tracking number provided by USPS and both say estimated delivery 12/26! Ridiculous! Contacted customer service twice and both times they said they were getting ready to ship and I should have 12/24. I explained that was not satisfactory and they offered to refund the expedited shipping - are you kidding me! You lied, you can't fulfill my order as promised and you think that refunding the shipping will resolve this!
I placed an order for a calendar on 12/2. According to "mail innovations" it was shipped on 12/4. By 12/18 it did not arrive and I became worried and called customer service. The woman I spoke with wasn't sure what had happened with my order so she re-ordered it, rush shipping and it was to arrive by today 12/22. It did not. For some reason, they cancelled that order. Why on earth they would cancel my rushed re-order I have no idea. So today, I was on the phone with customer service for over an hour (talked to two different people) to try and remedy the problem. Alas, it was re-ordered, once again. So between today and 12/18 I wasted over 2 hours of my life waiting on hold, for a gift that will NOT arrive by Christmas, even though I ordered it on December 2nd, and checked up on it by December 18th. I am so furious. And I am still out the $30.16 I paid for it! Nobody offered to reimburse me, nobody apologized. I place 3-4 orders per year. Have done that for years. Do they want to keep me as a customer?
Horrible customer service, placed an order beginning of Dec, on Dec 22 (14 days after order was shipped according to shutterfly) find out it is lost after spending a ton of time with unhelpful chat reps. No recourse offered aside from keep waiting and after few more days try to re-order.
Paid extra for design services, upgraded shipping on photo book for my husband for Christmas. This is his central gift from me this year. I should have received the book by 12/20, based on their GUARANTEED delivery date. Received notification on 12/20 that PRODUCTION PROBLEMS prevented delivery. New date: 12/27. Thanks Shutterfly for your horrible service. I've ordered from them for years, never again.
We have spent several hundred dollars on all sort of Shutterfly products over the last several years and have always been impressed with their service.
Unfortunately, this year is so much different. We question whether there are significant quality control problems with Shutterfly that may be signaling the eventual demise of this company.
We ordered our Christmas cards and 5 other items in mid-November. We were notified they had been shipped on November 22nd. After nearly three weeks of waiting with no cards in sight, we contacted Shutterfly. They refunded our shipping costs and provided a small credit to be used on a future order(as if). Their solution was to ship us another set of cards. When we asked them to sent them by expedited shipping. They refused because we live in Canada.
It is now December 20th and we still have not received cards from either shipment. Right after Christmas we head to Arizona so who is going to send out these cards? Oh well we can try sending them out in 2018 scratching out the 2017 displayed on the front page and aging the family members in the photos.
In the USA, the cards are shipped by UPS. Shutterfly, UPS also operates north of the border. We pay for your products in US funds so give us the same level of delivery service. If you are unable to do so then stop accepting orders from Canada.
It does not seem to make any difference whether products are shipped UPS, USPS, or Mail Innovations.
Merry Christmas.
I am so disappointed in my holiday cards, the product is very misleading and not as it appears on line. Their customer service terrible as well
I ordered the Christmas card on November 26th. It's now December 18th, I'm still waiting for it. It says the cards were shipped on Nov 28th. I don't understand why it takes more 3 weeks to get to Canada, I mean we are just across the border! And we are in Toronto, not some remote areas. So it's only 4 days to Christmas and I still haven't got the cards yet. They provided me refund (if it actually gets into my account), but it doesn't save me from the hustle of having to buy a box of random cards and mail out. Never order time sensitive prints from Shutterfly again!
