Some people say that the website is awesome with lots of good books. But they intentionally made it very difficult to cancel membership and made it impossible to get a refund past 30 days, even if they knew that we had not used the service.
I'll never support your business model, and will choose to directly purchase any books I want even if that means I'll pay more.
Subscribed to the free trial a year ago and was sure that I "canceled" the subscription right away since I didn't find what I needed.
Well I probably didn't click the hard-to-see button on the last page so I didn't really cancelled it. Had just found out that I've been billed for 12 full months.
Finally made sure that I cancelled it, and hopefully will be refunded for the last bill & not be billed again. However "It's extremely important to note: You must contact us within 30 days of a charge for a refund. We cannot grant you a refund for any charges that are more than 30 days old."
Well if it's extremely important how about making it a bit easier to read or cancel? Count me in for the class action lawsuit!
For such a well known company it is quite unfortunate that this occurs. Like several others I did not expect to be billed once I cancelled my trial period. This is false advertising and unacceptable.
Hi Emma! I'm so sorry for any confusion here. It looks like what you received was a pending verification charge. It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! I can also see that you have reached out to, and are in contact with my colleague Gary - please feel free to let him know if you have any further questions about this issue. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Service
I have been charged AU $13.99 every month since July when I cancelled my free trial and membership. I even deleted the account and another account with these scammers just in case I was using both my emails, and STILL get charged for something I didn't intend to use beyond the trial. I tried contacting them about cancelling and why I keep getting charged and NO RESPONSE. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. This review better get me my money back or at the very least, which is what I expect from such scammers, cancel my accounts so I never get charged again. Waste of my money.
Hi Christoffer, we apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. If you are still being billed, that means there is still an active account that is linked to your card. We would love the opportunity to look into this for you and get this all resolved. As you mentioned you have already reached out to our support team, please update your review to include the ticket number. We will be sure to get it assigned to a specialist ASAP.
Thank you, we look forward to getting this resolved for you. Have a great day! - MR

I subscribed for one month trial but never used this or login again but they keep on charging, no reply from support also. My request id Request #*******.
Hi Selva - I'm sorry to hear about your frustration, but it looks like you've been emailing with Karen on our support team yesterday and she's processed a refund for you! If you have further questions, please respond to Karen's email and she'll be happy to help.
I am very disappointed with the Scribd. They deducted money from my paypal without my authorization... I hope someday these fraud will vanish and closed that bull$#*! site.
Hey there - Just to clarify, Scribd does not "sign up" or "start subscriptions" for our users without their consent. In order for someone to have an active subscription with us, the only way to do so would be for them to sign up when creating an account or restart/renew their membership from their Account Settings page. With that being said, our support team would be more than happy to investigate this and stop any future charges for you. Please email our support team at help@scribd.com and update your review with your ticket number so we can get you connected with someone who can help ASAP. Thanks!
Scribd hide unethical business practices behind small print, make direct contact difficult and take payments without your clear understanding or agreement. The worst business model on the internet.
We're sorry to hear about any misunderstandings with our policies and we would love the opportunity to help ensure you're being assisted properly. If you have an open ticket, let us know your ticket number, otherwise, please update this review with a few more details of your issue so we can ensure your case is escalated properly. Thanks! -EC
How did they get my details? They saved it somewhere. That's really bad
Kindly revert back the money. My card ending with ×××× 016 has deducted 352 inr.
Hi Patrik, we are sorry for any confusion! We are happy to look into this and locate the subscription you are being billed for. That said, please submit a ticket to our support team here: Thank you! https://scr.bi/assist. Thanks! - MR
This is scam! I signed up with them and bought a solution manual for my text book for 45 dollars. When I logged in through my ipad to view the solutions manual, it kept telling me that i am only viewing a preview, and I couldnt get access to the entire manual until i subscribed for 8.99 a month! I couldn't view a book i paid for! I tried emailing them several times, and today I tried logging on and it doesnt let me saying I have the wrong password. I use the same password for everything, so I know that cant be possible. So I click the "forgot password" and it says they will email me instructions to reset it. They never emailed me. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THEM!
Hi Mahshid. I'm so sorry for the frustrating experience. I tried to reach out to you here 1 week ago via private message but I haven't heard back so I'm trying once more. It looks like we did help you with your login problem on September 11 (in ticket #599795) and you said you were able to log in, but we were still trying to help fix your purchase and we haven't heard back from you. It looks like you've since been able to read the book you purchased, but if you're still having trouble on your iPad, my colleagues and I would be happy to keep trying to help; just let us know! --Jerry, Customer Service Manager, Scribd.com
THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! I EMAILED THEM SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, WITH NOT EVEN A BLIP OF A RESPONSE. THE LINK THEY SENT ME IN AN EMAIL THAT CONFIRMED MY MESSAGE IS A DEAD END. THEY ARE A TOTAL SCAMMER OPERATION. NO PHONE NUMBER, NO NOTHING! SUCH A LACK OF INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONAL ANYTHING! STAY AWAY!
Hi there - I'm so sorry to hear that you did not receive a response! If you emailed us to help@scribd.com, you would receive a response right away. If you send us an email to that address, please reply here with your ticket number and I'll get this taken care of right away. Thank you!
I cancelled my free-trial subscription last October 04,2017 before they charge my account. But then as i'd checked my account balance via phone, my account was charge with an amount of $8.99 for the premium account (October 06,2017).
I couldn't believe that they still proceeded to charge my account. I WANT A REFUND ASAP!
I was charged for the last 9 months or so, $8.99 for a service I NEVER EVER USED because I didn't check my credit card statement as I should. There was NO number for me to call the company. When I emailed them asking for FULL REFUND and CANCELLATION, they never responded to my email. I emailed scribd a SECOND time, and again, no response. This company is underhanded, unethical and I wish someone would sue them for fraud. They are unethical and their customer service is deliberately elusive so that it remains impossibly difficult for ANYONE to contact them (there is no number to call). Awful, awful company which should be ashamed and I am going to write on every review site and let everyone know they should NEVER be trusted with their credit card. Try Amazon and other services instead. STAY AWAY! Never do business with them. I wish I could given them ZERO stars, one star is too charitable for being one of the most unethical, swindling companies to exist in recent memory.
Hi Derefe! I was able to locate your email that you sent to us. We sincerely apologize for the delay here. I do see that you were billed for 5 months after leaving your subscription active following the free trial you registered for. I've included more information about your account and the refunds we're sending you on ticket #1194334. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I had a problem with a free trial, after contracting their support they returned the money and made things right. 1 star down for that incident but 4 up for their customer care.
Hi there - please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll be happy to help you with a refund!
After signing up with scribd I was charged 8.99 for a free trial and I'm waiting to hear back from customer support still. No one is responding and I want my money back!

I tried SCRIBDs free trial and canceled when it was over. It seemed everything worked out fine until two months later when I received a notification from my CC that a monthly recurring charge from SCRIBD has been approved!
The charge is for the month ahead, so I canceled my subscription only to be notified by SCRIBD that my membership will be canceled after the next month is past with no mention of refunding the illegetimate charge already made to my card.
I immediately demanded a full refund and immediate cancellation of membership. I was notified my request has been sent to support with a response forthcoming within 3 days. My charge on my CC is still pending and I am unable to dispute it until it is approved which I have been informed may take up to three days.
Reading some of the reviews here it is no wonder this company is losing potential members by the droves. I list this company right down there with another scam, Freedompop.
Hi Richard, we'd be happy to escalate your case and get it resolved ASAP for you. Please update your review with your ticket # so we can have a specialist follow up - thanks!
I found charges from this company appearing on my bill last month. I never signed up for Scribd. They have no customer service phone number. I have been working with customer service, via email, provided all of the banking information they have requested. Since I don't have the email address associated with an account, they can't find the account. Of course I don't have an email associated with an account, I NEVER SIGNED UP FOR AN ACCOUNT! Today, I find another charge on my account. Still can't get any help from customer service...
Hi there! We are more than happy to help you with this. Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!

After cancelling my subscription I received a confirmation e-mail. Turned out, it was not stopped and drawn certain amount up until I realized after 1 year.
Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, Pawel. We're sorry for the trouble you've encountered. If you're still being charged, this could mean you may have a duplicate account created with another email address of yours -- which would explain why you are being charged even after a confirmation. We would like to first confirm this though! Please create a support ticket with us through this link https://scr.bi/assist so we can get you a response within 48 hours. Thanks! -AR
I tried their site for the free month and read only one article that was not helpful, and I sent them an email saying I did not wish to continue but they have been charging my card ever since and ignore and requests and never reply I thing it is a total SCAM stay away and report them
Hi Gary, we're truly sorry for the experience here and we would be glad to make sure this subscription is completely canceled for you. If you have already reached out to help@scribd.com, then update this review with your ticket number so we can follow up. Thanks!
I never signed up for Scribd and have been charged nearly $50 over the past 5 months. Paid by my Paypal account which I use very rarely and thus don't really keep an eye on. NO EMAILS WHATSOEVER FROM SCRIBD INDICATING CHARGES OR THAT I SIGNED UP FOR THE SERVICE. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A SCAM AND PERHAPS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS THE WAY TO PUT AN END TO THIS.
Hi Scott- I'm sorry to hear about your unexpected charges; most likely you have a subscription with us that hasn't been cancelled. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll be happy to locate the subscription and issue a refund. Thank you!

Scribd has a rating of 1.1 stars from 881 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Scribd most frequently mention free trial, credit card and customer service. Scribd ranks 188th among Ebook sites.
Hi Keren, we're sorry for the frustrating experience. We sincerely apologize for any confusion with your Scribd membership and the cancellation process. To clarify, it is absolutely impossible for us to bill a canceled account as it is no longer rendering services with us. We actually have a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to cancel your subscription successfully in our Help Center here: https://bit.ly/2UpEyYF
Additionally, the reason why we are unable to process refunds outside of our 30-day Refund Policy guidelines (https://support.scribd.com/hc/articles/210133986) is due to limits that are set entirely by our payment processor's parameters. To put it simply, we are physically unable to access or edit transactions that are older than 30 days. We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes. However, we can confirm that your subscription has been canceled successfully and you will not be charged again as we cannot bill an account that's no longer rendering services with us.
You can find more information, and a confirmation of this in your recent support ticket, under ticket number #3219969. Thanks for your understanding here, and have a wonderful day! -VG
