Scribd is definitely a scam. I tried several times to cancel effective 3-14--21 and they ignored my request and charged my PayPal account. I have tried several times to get them to refund my $10.71. They have ignored mt requests for my refund several times. I am going to challenge this on PayPal.
Its a shame that a company that offers a good product and even after advertising you can cancel anytime but refuses to honor that and still charges people abd refuses to issue a refund.
Please be safe and don't subscribe to this fradulent company. I doubt that the authorities know they are "sharing" copywriters books. They should be shut down.
Good enough product but terribly unimpressed with their customer service or should I say they have no customer service. Abd they lie about their refund policy.
I canceled Scribd 3 times but they kept billing me anyway. So I called CitiBank and they said all I could do is cancel my credit card and get a new one. So I did that and Scribd still managed to bill me again. Now I have to get a new card CitiBank will block them but it will take a week to do that and get a new card. Save your money, get online with your library, get a card, download Libby, and you can borrow thousands of books free.
Hi Steve- Please submit a ticket through this link https://scr.bi/assist so your request is escalated straight to my inbox. We can assist you with this. Thanks! -RW
I have accepted trial; membership few months ago but two days later I have realizes that they do not have what I want and have canceled my trial membership. I have emailed to their customer service, they have replied, quite politely but have simply continued to charge my visa account every month. I have contacted them again, but without any success. I have to cancel my account to stop them steeling money from my account.
Hi Sam - I'm sorry to hear about your unexpected charges! Can you please update your review with your ticket number? That way, I can personally resolve this for you. Thank you!
They used to give you 1 audiobook & 3 books a month. Now they say you get "unlimited" but actually get... 1 audiobook a month and 3 books... false advertising. Audible may be more expensive but you OWN the book you get each month so if you want to listen to it again it doesn't count as your 1 "unlimited" book to listen to it again!
Hi Dillon - I'm sorry that specific books are temporarily unavailable to you right now. While we cannot guarantee the immediate availability of every title, all titles found using our Explore page should be available for unlimited reading right away: https://www.scribd.com/explore Still have questions? Email help@scribd.com - Thanks!
Canceled my account Jan 20,2018. On April 20,2018, got a message that the account has been reactivated and that the next charge will be on May 20,2018.
Upon checking my Credit Card statement, I discovered that they made a charge on 07 March 2018. So, I requested a refund from my Bank, and also to block them.
Note: Tried to log-on to my account, and it says it is canceled. So, they made a 7 March 18 charge on a canceled account and they planned to make a second.
Conclusion: Reader beware!
Furthermore, the e-mail address *******@scribd.com with ATTENTION JAMES, which Jerry G. Is putting on all the reviews, don't reply. And that they did not refund my money. My Credit Card / Bank had to reverse the charges.
Hi Leon - I'm so sorry for the confusion here. Most likely, you have two accounts in your name, which is why you're receiving charges but when you log-in, it shows your account as canceled. I'm happy to help you get this resolved. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com with ATTENTION JAMES in the subject line and I'll personally refund your charges. Thank you!
They lied to me and said they processed a refund for sneak charging me on a duplicatr account for 36mo. They apologized and said they granted a refund. Then they started charging again despite me not using scribd. This is a criminal company, or they were legitimate and went rogue. Call your police; file a complaint with the BBB, do NOT give them CC info my next steps are to work with my CC companies or perhaps cancel all associated cards they have on file. Their modus operandi is to keep charging and profit off the percent that are not persistent enough to get their money back from fraud. I'm speaking to an attorney to take them down and for a potentially capitulating class action suit of $18M in damages.
Hi Andy, could you please email help@scribd.com about this? We want to escalate your case to an account specialist for review. Please update this review with your ticket number for the fastest response. Thanks!
I found for the second time recently 7 books of mine to download on scribd. They do monyy with my work while i am struggling to have some moeney. They removed the books but the uploader have another book he don't own the copyright.
I let them know but they didn't anything.
They protect pirates and property stealing.
Shame!
Hi there - I'm very sorry to hear about this and I would like to get it resolved for you ASAP. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com with the subject line ATTENTION: JAMES and I will personally resolve this. Thank you!
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have taken a scribd account by taking a free trail initially and after that I was supposed to be moved to 8.99$ monthly recurring plan. I would bring to the notice that I had been charged each month for the same till September. Now in September I decided to discontinue the service and so I disabled my plan. But I was deducted once on 26th September, 2015 for this month and again on 28th September, 2015. I am attaching the screenshots for the same.
Please let me know why these two deductions are made in same month. Also before deducting the amount for each month you have not even notified me through mail. I came to know about the deductions of each month by going through my bank account statements. This is highly inconvenient and unacceptable.
I do not wish to continue such service. Delete my account and also refund me the money ASAP which has been deducted twice.
Thanks,
Abhishek
Hi Abhishek! I'm glad to see that my colleague April was able to resolve this issue and issue refunds for you. If you have any other questions or concerns, please email us via help@scribd.com. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I cancelled my subscription to SCRIBD on January 8,2020 and received no confirmation. After seeing the continued charges to my credit card, I cancelled again on March 13,2020 and again this morning. I have not received any emails confirming any of these cancellations. I reached out to SCRIBD support and received two ticket numbers: ******* and *******. According to the automatic reply email, it "typically" takes them "about 3 business days" for customer service to respond.
After reading all of these reviews from people with similar complaints it is clear that this reprehensible conduct is apart of their business model and is apparently standard business practice for SCRIBD.
I will definitely be reporting this conduct to the BBB and to the CFPB. This is unacceptable conduct that should end immediately. If it continues I'll also reach out to an attorney, who will in turn reach out to many of the the other complainants on this website and others.
Hi there, we just responded to your ticket, cancelled your subscription and processed your refund. Please continue to follow up via email with any other questions. Thanks!
I don't have any accounts or business with you guys
Why would you simply charge 10$ for no reason? Ticket #******* kindly check n refund
For god sake respond to the emails
Hello, we are sorry for any difficulty you have experienced. After further review, it looks like one of our specialists responded to you yesterday. If you have any further questions, please respond to the representative directly. Thank you, have a wonderful day. - MR
I had 2 books uploaded to scribd, they sold very nicely, i got email that i will receive 49.90 for my books sale to paypal. 6 days later they send me email that they blocked to purchase book from me to other people. I tried to contact them, they didn't reply me, and took away my 49.90$. When i tried to contact them about payment how to pay for subscription they answered immediately. But when i contacted them how to get payed for my books, there is no one answering. Just $#*!ing wow. NOT RECOMMEND BEWARE SELLERS

I highly do not recommend it. I was just charged yesterday around 837.14 INR. I did take the free trial but was not satisfied, and now iam charged for service I never used and will not be using any further. They are not responding, iam stuck
Hi Siya, thanks for reaching out. We're so sorry for any confusion surrounding your account and the cancellation process. Upon review, it looks like you canceled your account on the same day that your subscription was set to renew - this would be why you were billed accordingly. Not to worry though, as we've gone ahead and refunded the recent charge for you and ensured your account is canceled. You will not be billed further, and we've followed up on your support ticket with a confirmation of all of this. Please continue to correspond with us there in the meantime if you have any other questions - thanks!
In my view the service unacceptably misleading. Prior to logging in I
Search on the webpage shown to all (members and non members) for a
Number of books and find them shown as being available. I then log into
My new account and find the books are not available. Equally, I have
Found that some books shown as being available on not immediately
Available. When I send an inquiry I receive a response that the book(s)
Will be available the following month. I have written to service a
Number of times to obtain clarification but the responses are ambiguous
And never really respond to the question raised. Why advertise books that aren't offered when advertised?
Hi GC -I'm sorry for your frustration with our unlimited service. If you have any further questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at help@scribd.com. Thank you!
I had turned off the autopayment/renewal for scribd premium membership that was till 23 may 2017. But still i was charged when i checked my account it says amount was charged at 1 am 24 may IST and my premium membership was activated. Its really of use to me as half the time i get the error we are unable to let u download error. When rechecked the membership was automatically renewed hence i cancelled it again on 24th but now i get message ur membership is cancelled and will end on 23 june 2017. To check whether its cancelled properly or not i tried downloading books and it does download so premium membership is still active i guess... plz cancel it and refund my amount. My request id is #*******.
Hi Renuka. Thank you for writing in and for providing your ticket number. Our support agent has replied to your ticket number with more information regarding your account and refund. If you have any other questions and/or concerns, please reply to his email. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I signed up for a free trial and canceled it before it ended. And I just noticed that I am being charged every month and I do not know how to stop it, because my scribd account clearly states that my memebership is not active. After seeing many similar comments in this site it looks to me like scribd is clearly a SCAM!
Hello Guillermo,
We sincerely apologize for any frustration, but since we can't charge canceled accounts, it's more than likely there is a duplicate account with another email or perhaps a Facebook profile. As such, please send us a message here: https://scr.bi/assist, and update your comment with your ticket number, and we will help with a refund. Thank you! -LH
Scribd is a scam. It says unlimited but once I finished my first couple of books every other title I searched for (even old ones like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) were unavailable in my country (and I live in a Spanish speaking country but read only English books!). Apparently they say "Because of our agreements with our publishers we have to adjust availability when necessary" (so basically you only get availability to the entire collection once a month, then they reduce the amount of available titles A LOT!). So, it is clear that Scribd is not truly unlimited.
I have read many other posts saying the same now and I will start to spread the word across all social media outlets: Scribd is a scam.

Updated! Reply from SCRIBD (as can be seen below) "Although some titles may not immediately be available, there will always be something available to read!" - So they list titles and books as available, but when you try to download them they say they are "not available in your country", thus it is not unlimited and hence it is false advertising in my opinion. What do you guys think? Please post your comments below.
Hi Dylan, we're sorry for any confusion caused by the way our library works. Although some titles may not immediately be available, there will always be something available to read! Our article here, https://bit.ly/2YNuefx can help answer some questions you may have. Unfortunately with titles that are unavailable in your specific country, there are publisher and author agreements that prohibit availability worldwide. We wish that could be different! If you would like us to look at your account and clarify your current availability further, please reach back out for more info and we can get you set up with an agent to discuss further. Thanks! -AR
You can't keep your books if you cancel your membership. Sorry for the caps, but I want people to know that THIS IS A SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE. Once you cancel, you can longer read the books. The monthly limit on books is awful. Their "new platform" is set up to fail. I wouldn't be surprised if you paid for their service and end up seeing the sight disappear, along with your money, within a few months. I signed up for unlimited books and audio in 2015. Now they have changed the platform. If you just have to use their service, use a prepaid card or PayPal. Do not give them your credit care and do not pay for a year.
I really liked the free trial but didn't think it was worth the money they charged when canceled the subscription[which they make dfficult to begin with] it still didnt work because they continuously charged me and i literally have no money in my card so i keep getting interest on top of it every single f*** month and they("customer support") make you go through a bunch of hurdles to try to cancel it and then they never get back to you. I have been getting charged for about a year now if you are a busy person you will not even notice what is happening until it is too late. I still do not know what to do to get the help i need and get my money back! My only hope is to eventually pay by debt to be able to cancel the card i had.
Hi Monica - I'm so sorry to hear about these unexpected charges and we will absolutely cancel them and issue a refund. To do so, could you please reply to this with a ticket number from when you emailed us? I'll personally take over the ticket and resolve this for you. Thank you!
I am beginning to feel like Scribd is a scam. I only signed up to see a template of a work document. I want to cancel my free subscription before I am charged, but Scribd is saying my password is incorrect (which I know it isn't because I used Google Autofill to remember my login), and Scribd is also saying that an account with my email address does not exist, even though that is the only email I used to sign up with and Scribd originally sent my receipt confirming my membership to that email. After trying to recover my password and contact support, I have received no reply, and after reading the comments on this thread, I am worried I will not receive a reply at all and will be charged anyway.

I joined on 18th nov 20 and couldn't find useful after 2 days so until 17th dec i tried to cancel but no option available anywhere, no customer service in uk, i delete my account and still they took money from my paypal(£9.99). I have to call paypal and requested them to block this company from taking future payments. They are making fortune by trapping people on trail basis eg 1mil people joined and couldn't cancel trail and gave them 10mil for nothing!.
These people are purely fraud.
