I have the experience. I was on the free trial for one and cancelled my subscription before my free trial expired but Scribd kept on charging for almost 6 months now. Sometimes they charge me twice a month. This is fraud and totally unacceptable.
I want my refund back. This is theft
I must change my bank card to cancel payment, they can't find me with my e-mail to cancel it, but every month take money from card. Useless aplication, no star
Hi Mladen, thank you for bringing this to our attention! We're so sorry for the inconvenience and we'd be happy to help cancel your subscription to prevent additional charges. If you could create a new support ticket using this link, http://bit.ly/social-support-help, and provide the 7-digit ticket number that you receive then we'll have someone get back to you right away. Thanks again!
My free trial was supposed to end January 23, I cancelled it on January 22 yet I noticed that there was a charge pending from Scribd on my credit card already! This charge should not have posted because 1. I cancelled the membership before the end date and 2. Scribd charged my card before my free trial end date
I tried to contact them twice and no reply! Ticket Request #*******-- Also beware! When you try to cancel, they try to confuse you (you have to press cancel like 3 times before your account is actually cancelled. I'm not sure how this is even legal)! I will be filing a complaint with BBB.
Update- Scribd finally refunded back my money (they tried to say that the charge was placed because the trial date ended- this is not true, the last date to cancel was the day after the charge was actually made. So be aware! You may be charged 2 days before the end of your free trial!
Hi Maya, It looks like we replied to your support ticket with more information regarding your refund. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
This company is absolutely horrible! I had no idea it existed until they got a hold of my credit card, somehow. Now I'm on my fourth card and they are still charging me! I am dumbstruck how they can get away with this. And how they keep getting my card numbers is beyond me... must be some fraud string in SLC.
Hi Mike. Our support agent, Matt, responded to your with a email with an update. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
Scribd charged me for over a year through an account based on my government email, though I've never signed up using that address. I am a lawyer in the Philippines tasked to protect consumers from harmful business practices. After reviewing several websites, I am convinced someone should do something about their deceitful and fraudulent practice.
If you live in the Philippines and you've been a victim, comment here so I can reach out to you. For all the consumers that Sribd has scammed, this may not be relevant now, but the fight has to start somewhere. If we can hold them accountable in our country, hopefully it will set a precedent for other jurisdictions to follow.
For information, already sent a complaint to Scribd after realizing their charges, support ticket #*******. They replied to me in less than 3 hours because I think they recognize that I am someone who will take on this fight.
We appreciate you taking the time, to provide detailed feedback and we truly apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. After further review of the information you provided, it looks like you have already spoken to a billing specialist within the ticket mentioned. Please respond to the specialist handling your request with any further questions or concerns. Thanks again, have a wonderful day. - MR
Scribd is a ripoff POS. There are other more cumbersome but free methods of getting these PDF's. Scrbid is an attempt to shut the public out of viewing docs, boycott them now. I'd give it 0 stars if possible!
Hi Ken, we're sorry to hear Scribd wasn't your best fit. Our team would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You can always reach us at help@scribd.com. Thanks!
I wish I'd seen these reviews before subscribing to Scribd. Similar experience of being charged for four months after the subscription was canceled, catching the error on my bank account, and then having to go back, and forth by email with a bunch of dullards pising as customer service representatives. My case involves actual fraud, as they attributed charges made to my credit card to another subscription.
As an attorney, I will be taking further action if they do not remedy their mistake today. Please consider doing likewise. Fraud by internet companies costs consumers thousands of dollars every year, and is also a crime.
Hi Madaleine - Upon review, it looks like one of our specialists, Vanessa, was able to get this resolved for you in your support ticket, #2467073. You've been issued refunds for the additional months as a one-time courtesy, your subscription is canceled, and you will not be billed further. Please allow 3-5 business days for these funds to be credited back to you. Thanks!
Never asked for it. Never requested for it to the slightest. Found it within my emails one day then they continued to send more and more with "too good to be true" sorts. Free trials and all claiming this and that expires only for another 60d trail to begin and the cycle repeats.
As shown within the images. One of which is their unique "verify your email" since I never requested for this. I clicked the "contact us" which then redirected me to their site which was rather odd. As there was no phone numbers to be seen and no "no. Reply" emails to be found either. Instead you are met with an AI that will give you outputs that has been typed in for their services. Not for them to kindly bugger off.
We apologize for any confusion, Alex. We are a monthly subscription ebook and audiobook service. We provide our subscribers with monthly access to ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more. We also do not use bots. Rather, we are a small team of support agents who are available to help out via email. We do not offer phone support. If you need help from support, please be sure to email us at support@scribd.com, otherwise, we appreciate your time and hope you have a great rest of your day -EC
Really 0 stars, but that's not an option. I'm so disgusted. Decided to cancel my subscription a few months back.
Went to log in and received a message that the username/password was wrong. Really? I asked for a new password, but that just dumps you into the Free Trial page. Tried to cancel, but you can't do that without logging into your account. An endless loop.
Support? There is none. Thieves don't maintain a Call Center. I knew there wouldn't be any help when I saw the Support number was a 415 area code. Sure enough, the "happy" voice recording on the other end said all support was now on the web. Rinse and repeat.
These the worst kind of thieves. There's too much of this going on.
I had to ask PayPal to do something about this ripoff. Until they do, these jerks will continue to steal from me and everyone else who uses Scribd.
Hi Henry, thanks for reaching out. We sincerely apologize for any confusion with your Scribd membership and the cancellation process. To clarify, it is absolutely impossible for us to bill a canceled account as it is no longer rendering services with us. We actually have a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to cancel your subscription in our Help Center here: https://bit.ly/2UpEyYF
If you still need assistance, we're more than happy to help with a cancellation and refund for you, so please use this link to connect with our support team directly and a specialist will follow up ASAP to get this resolved: https://scr.bi/assist
Thanks so much for reaching out! -VG
Unfortunatelly not all the books I'd like to read can be found on scribd and some oif them are only in audio format which I don't like either. Still it's nor a bad option especially if you're looking for something inexpensive. Once I also had to pay for one month of inactive subscription, and the problem was about apple subscriptions and how they work rather than about scribd. Or at least that's what their support agent said, but that's kind of weird...
Hey Arya - Thanks for your review! You raise some very good points, and I think our team will benefit from hearing them. I’ll be taking your thoughts and feedback back to my team for them to review when it’s time to revisit our current policies. We’ll continue to discuss our readers’ feedback as we grow and shape the future of Scribd, and I appreciate you taking the time to be a part of that. We wish you all the best and hope that you continue to enjoy Scribd. Thanks again!
Despite publicising a free trial, I still got charged by scribd. Meant to only try out free trial but was charged US 8.99 in scirbd account's payment history via credit card! I had never meant to purchase anything and did NOT use any services so far - no downloads nothing! Naturally I panicked since I got charged for something that I didnt even want to buy. Immediately after seeing the error, I desperately contacted scribd support/email, sent requests etc, even contacting scirbd on facebook. I tried calling via phone as well. The response is extremely slow, and I have not received a reply! Please reply and refund me!

I'm Brazilian. O pay Scribd in dollar through my credit card. Right now, a dollar is R$5.8,99 dollars is a substantion amount. And here I am, trying to cancel 2 months in a row, Just because the book I needed to finish my college period could not be found anywhere else. I Hope you guys can sort It out and give me a refund. Things are bad economicaly in Brazil and I have to squeeze my finances in order to pay IN DOLLAR for your mistakes.
I'm being charged $8.99 a month for a service I never started and I have no idea how they got my credit card. I can't find a single place to contact them and I may have to cancel my credit card just to get it to stop! It would be nice if they would respond to my queries! Don't sign up or even look at this app!
Hi Bryan - I'm so sorry to hear this! Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll be happy to cancel your subscription and issue a refund.
Along with all the other disgruntled people here, I do not have an account on SCRIBD and yet it is charging me monthly. Customer service is a circular shell game. You cannot officially request a refund if you don't have an account to log into. To reiterate: I don't have an account to log into so a) you shouldn't be charging me and b) it won't let me submit the request to solve the problem without one. Genius money making scheme. Will contact the bank for unauthorized charge and hope enough people have done so that it impacts them.
Thanks for your comment here and I am sorry to hear about the trouble! Our support agents are available to help everyone, including future or current customers. To get in touch, please submit a ticket via this link https://scr.bi/assist and we'll make sure you're forwarded to the top of our queue so we can help you ASAP.
This business is slowly dying. Original deal was for unlimited books and unlimited audiobooks. That was fantastic, and I listened to a bunch of books during my daily drive. Then they limited subscribers to one free audiobook per month, and started charging for additional audiodbooks. Today I got an email stating that Scribd will limit regular ebooks to three per month. Not sure why I stayed this long, but I immediately killed my subscription after getting the updated subscriber terms today. Rip off, bait-and-switch, BS. Stay away.
This organization is dishonest. I signed up for trial membership and cancel within 2 weeks. They continued charging my credit card for 7 months (overlooked to check). They do not respect cancellation. Just do not give your credit card to this outfit.
Hi there! Our Support team is always happy to help with any cancelation issues. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we can take a look. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Similar situation as all the others here, didn't see the charge of USD8.99 for 4 months, and then just got one month refund back. I cancelled on time as well.
This site should be shut down immediately.
Just managed to cancel today, I'll see if I can report to my bank, but hopefully won't see a charge again.
Fras
Hi Fras - I'm very sorry to hear this. We're happy to help with a further refund. Could you please reply here with your ticket number? Thank you!
If you elect to ignore all these people warning you off, at least take this advice; do not save all the audiobooks you are interested in to your reading list. They will make 80% of the books unavailable to you until your free trial has passed. This bait and switch amounts to unfair trade practices as defined in the state consumer protection laws of which I am aware. If I have one-tenth of the trouble canceling that the rest of these folks describe, I am going to make it my new hobby to get cease and desist orders issued by every state they do business in. (Note to Scribd.com, you'd be better off telling me to fornicate with myself than giving me that scripted, "sorry, but there's always something to read" response I keep seeing. I'd applaud that measure of honesty.
Hey Joel- We apologize for any confusion with your Scribd membership. You'll notice the catalog rotate as you read, not as you save titles. Please feel free to email us at help@scribd.com with any questions or concerns, our support team is more than happy to assist you. Thanks!
After I had a subscription on scribd.com, I found that every month two payments were taken from the card on different days (both $ 8.99, the monthly subscription being $ 8.99)
After I closed my account, they continued to take my money monthly.
After long discussions via email, we received confirmation of the closing of the account and the return of a single amount of $ 8.99 improperly withheld.
After confirming the closing of the account, the surprise!
He continues to take money from my monthly account, but I no longer respond to emails.
I had to go to the bank monthly to report abusive transactions.
There are credit card thieves.
Hi Loan, my name is Rebecca and I'd like to step in and make this right for you. Can you please reply and update your review to include the ticket number from your most recent email correspondence with us? I want to look you up and connect asap. Thanks!
I have email messages dating back to July, 2019 asking them to refund my money and stop the deductions. All I keep getting is there is no record and they can't locate my membership. I hate to change bank account numbers for $8.99, it would disrupt my entire autopay life! I just checked again, having time now with the Covid-19 shutdown, and find I'm still being charged $8.99 per month. Count me in for the class action suit!
I'm so sorry that has been ongoing! We are always happy to help with refunds, but we need to find your account in order to do so. Please feel free to update here with your ticket number from support and we'll be sure to continue assisting you. For now, thanks again for contacting us here and have a great day!
