Truly and honestly one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Beyond the few walkers I have used that stole rolls of poop bags or didn't use the proper harness (not that big of a deal), I had a woman stay over and "care" for my cat and dog and multiple violations were done. Multiple guests brought over (security camera evidence), dog fed the wrong food, dog allowed to eat from bag of food and I was not told for hours, cleaning products left on the ground, cats litter box blocked and uncleaned for days.

I get it, rover is a site for independent contractors. But they did not care nor remedy the situation in the slightest. Impossible to get a solid answer from anyone, or a call back. I followed their mediation guidelines and because of that had to pay full price for a service that was not done.

They do not care about the safety of animals, humans, or property.

Do not use them.

I have been using Rover for 5 months and have used 4 different dog walkers without a problem. My walkers have been friendly and professional and always showed up on time. The one time I had one cancel, she gave me 2 days notice so I could find someone else.

I'm so so surprised at all these bad reviews. As the sitter, I maintain the highest standard when boarding pets in my home. Emergencies can and do come up, as most sitters are just regular people who have lives outside of their business but that is no excuse for some of the things I'm reading. As the client hiring a sitter it is your upmost responsibility to make sure you are leaving your pet with someone you trust and have a connection with. It is your responsibility to vet out the people you are leaving your property/home/pet to. Where I am from (near milwaukee, WI) I have never heard such bad things about other Rover sitters.

As a sitter, they are useless in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. In the event of a mandatory evacuation, their only solution was for me to drive 2+ hours round trip to deal with a dog that was in my care AFTER assuring me that I would be taken care of in the event that this precise thing happened when I called before the stay began. If I had cancelled the stay, like I knew I should have, I would have been penalized. I ended up penalized anyway with a ridiculous "solution". The "support" staff is either completely clueless or downright rude and condescending.

Not reliable
August 29, 2023

Although I didn't use them weekly, service was not consistent. My dog would meet a walker once and the next time that person was no longer working there. If I book someone for a vacation (to walk my dog once a day from home) and two weeks before and they cancel. Really sucks. Canceled my ABB and lost a lot of money. Not good.

Really awful site for service. I sent out 8 requests for dog boarding and 4 said they did not update their calendar that they were unavailable. Three did not respond at all. One responded, I booked and then they canceled two days before. I will never use these jokers again.

Horrible. Don't use Rover
September 28, 2021

I hired a pet sitter through Rover. She was hired to stay in my house for the weekend and care for my cat and dog. She stopped by the house every 5 to 7 hours for 15 minutes. She lied when I was texting her about her being hired to stay at the house. We have ring surveillance cameras so I have record of every time that she was there and how long she stayed. I got home from my weekend away and my rugs were soaked in urine. I contacted the sitter and she told me to get a grip. I contacted Rover and they said it's up to me to deal with Yazmine, the pet sitter. So I have disputed charges on my credit card and I am doing everything I can to warn everyone about rover. Do not use them.

No Accountability
May 11, 2022

Rover charges a fee for their service, which is, in reality, non-existent. They do not vet the sitters. They do not train the sitters. They do not provide the sitters with policies to follow. I've had a few great sitters on Rover, but not because of Rover. And, I've had MANY terrible sitters - people who "check-in" for a session twenty, thirty minutes (even an hour) before they arrive, and spend less than 5 minutes with the animal while being paid for half an hour. If you call Rover, you learn that another thing they do not provide is customer service. Rover will tell you to take any issues up with the sitter, as their sitters are independent contractors. Rover thereby disclaims all responsibility for ensuring you actually get what you pay for. It's a horrible company.

Leaves dogs outside
November 1, 2020

We chose rover because we have two dogs that are scared of kennel settings. The lady that watched out dogs had two dogs of her own. Left our dog outside for HOURS and he tore her door up because he was scared. She told us that if we didn't reimburse her she would tell rover. Don't worry honey we will tell rover and never use the service again.

Don't use
December 6, 2022

My dog Cookie was in the care of a person l found on rover.
I don't know what happened but the woman taking care of my dog said she was having seizures. Her and her husband took my dog to the vet. Not even 3 hours later she passed away. I am angry that
I put my dog in the hands of anyone from rover. If you love your pet you won't even consider them.

I booked who I thought seemed like a reliable sitter and paid for a week long stay at my house to watch my two dogs. The sitter was responsive up front and accepted payment. A few weeks before my trip I tried to get in touch for her to do a meet and greet and no response. I tried messaging again and no response. I tried called and no response. I was getting frantic knowing my vacation is near and didn't want to be stuck with no sitter, so I had to cancel and find someone I know personally. It's pretty frustrating there is such a lack of accountability with sitters on this site. I will not use Rover again.

No thanks
December 8, 2021

I used rover as a sitter and the amount taken from our checks are insane. They should require house owners to get a background check as well. I was hired by a nut and asked to leave her house in the middle of the night just so she could save money. Another had a filthy house, ugh smh.

I have worked for "Dog Buddy" and now "Rover" for about 5 years. Have lots of very happy customers and am currently doing about 16-20 walks a week. Now since "Rover" has taken over I have been told that as I do not have a passport or driving licence Rover are unable to pay me.

Garbage
December 29, 2017

Sitter let my very large powerful dog in with a herd of small dogs despite my instructions to introduce slowly, or kennel if needed. Sitter completely irresponsible, boarding a mixture of Rover-sourced pets and non-Rover pets, so the insurance coverage wasn't equal across the animals for which the sitter was responsible! Avoid and use a legitimate boarding service.

There was a misunderstanding with one of persons I sat for and despite my spotless record, many great reviews and a $#*! ton of apologising, Rover decided to indefinitely kick me off the app. I hate this company and they put me through hell.

They also take a really hefty fee off your pay and just aren't there to support you. They support the clients because they know their reviews matter more.

Pet Owners Beware!
July 27, 2022

1. Some of the pet sitters are this site are criminals.
2. Many of the reviews are fake.
3. If you want to know my experience, check out what I reported on The Ripoff Report. (I didn't spell check as I was so angry about the entire experience). https://www.ripoffreport.com/report/matthew-short/avon-park-fl-highlands-county-*******

Be prepared that if any issue comes up between the pet sitter and your dog, that Rover will side with the pet sitter and block you from putting any negative reviews on the pet sitters profile. This is ensures that the pet sitters always have high reviews even when they should not be pet sitting. Plus the sitter has ALL of your information but they protect their pet sitters information from you. If you do use this service, make sure you write down the pet sitters license plate number and get a copy of their drivers license.

Our pet sitter could not handle our frightened 5 pound chihuahua and started texting us while we were hundreds of miles away saying she couldn't get him to stop barking at her and she didn't think she could do this. WHAT? We were scared she was just going to walk away from the job and not even feed him. Never never again will I trust my precious little dogs to a stranger - especially from a site like Rover that blocks dog owners from posting honest reviews.

I recently went out to Rover.com and contacted 7 pet sitters. It was very interesting what I found out. Out of the 7, NONE of them had their own insurance nor were they bonded! I asked one woman if she had insurance, and she said she didn't feel comfortable answering that question! Now clearly, she didn't have any. I said a "Professional" pet sitter would have insurance and be bonded. I then said what if you caused some harm to my dogs... you would just say I'm sorry?
What I would tell anyone who uses this service, really think twice about it. If they are supposedly professionals, why wouldn't they have insurance and be bonded? Don't take a chance with your pet. One incident was just in the news about Rover.com and now the owner is without her dog. Don't do it!

Does not advocate for anyone. Is only looking for their best interest and that is themselves and taking their cut. They don't respond or intervene in emergencies. They ask you to contact the sitter/owner and be as hands off as possible. If your dog is lost or killed they will pay you 500.00 and wipe their hands clean.

I paid for boarding for 18 days. Handed my dog over and 6 hours he was no longer with the boarders, there was a hole in their fence and he had escaped. I had five days of worry and emotional distress. He was exposed to a major highway and could have killed. He was found on the fifth day and spent the remaining time with a friend. I have asked for a refund and was told they had refunded the money in October. They were not paid until November and the stay was in December. They are responding to me with rubbish. Don't risk your dogs life with rover.
