Absolute worst experience of my entire life - I booked a package deal and called the Riu packages team to verify if I could cancel and that I was within the window to do (otherwise I would have NEVER cancelled and LOST ALL MY S3K). The agent advised that I could and since they can't reach the hotel after calling THREE times that I should do it online. I did it online and it said I get ZERO refund. I asked if they could reinstate it then and I would come on the trip and they said its not an option. I asked for a credit and that we would come stay at a later date, they declined. There is NO CARE OR SERVICE for people who work hard and do their best to work out a resolution. The manager declined the waiver sent for refund and declined to do anything on this matter. My family is now out of a vacation and $3k (I also cancelled my flight and took a loss there as well since they advised I could cancel still). Because I was MISINFORMED by THEIR agent I am not suffering a significant loss. Absolute fraud and horrible SERVICE!
Disgusting they could treat me this way.
I was@ the riu palace Peninsula in cancun September of this year.
On our last day there we went to dinner and we returned our room it was broken into as well as the safe. The door to the room was forced open with a bar or something but the safe was apparently opened with a bypass code because there was no forced entry.
All our cash was stolen and all our clothing was searched. Fortunately our walkets, phones and passports weren't taken. We had to immediately cancel our credit cards because purchases can be made without the actual card.
I immediately call the front desk to tell them what happened and they sent up their security. Their security wasn't any good. All they seem to do was look at each other mumbling in Spanish.
The night manager offered to take us to another hotel if we wished but we were responsible for the cost? We emonded the mgr. We had no cash. After complaining they found another room in the hotel for our last night. They promised they would investigate what happened and let us know something I'm the morning.
In the morning I went to the front desk looking for management to see how they were going to help us. All I was really looking for was some cash so we could get some food, etc. At the airport.
The people at the front desk told me the manager wasn't in yet then the Mgr. Was in a meeting. They continually gave me excuses until our ride came to take us to the airport. I can't express how frustrated/annoyed I was for being treated like this. We left got home and I sent an E mail to their complaint site.
About 2 weeks later again after their investigation they essentially said it was my fault because I probably didn't close the safe which is ridiculous.
I hate the Riu organization and I wish them bankruptcy in the near futures
This is what I sent Riu they had an excuse for everything!
We arrived at the Riu Jalisco first they serve us hot bottle water and 100 degree weather.
When we get to the room the bathroom didn't have a door to it we had a 6 year old with us.
The shower has hairs all in the shower, the bar area barely had anything in it.
After cleaning the room and spraying it down we went to the buffet to eat since that was the only thing open.
The buffet was horrible picked at food everywhere nothing really to eat because it looked all bad.
The workers were handling food with their bare hands very unsanitary!
The next morning we went for BF they had raw bacon on the buffet ( see attached pic) we could have gotten sick if we ate that.
The soda's and alcoholic beverages were horrible like the water was bad.
Went to dinner at the steakhouse they served us bread on a dirty try ( see pic below)
At the beach you had to rent an umbrella and the beach chairs were old and dirty and needed to be replaced also the locals had a set spot of the beach selling stuff which was not cool they would come up to you and try to sell you stuff ( see pic below)
We could only get one towel a day and we couldn't replace them we had to use the same towel all day and some days it rained so how do you dry off with a wet towel?
I asked for towels and blankets for two days and never received them. Towels were very hard like they didn't dry all the way in the dryer. The ice machine was broken the only one that was working was on the 4th floor we were on the 1st floor ( see pic below)
The TV had very few english channels I know we were in Mexico but we are on vacation we should have had some english tv to watch. They catered to the locals the resort was 95% locals.
I can't believe that you have this resort as a 4 stars it is clearly not even a 2 stars. It was so bad we switched to the resort next door.
Just came back from RIU Dunamar Mexico. Spent 10 days there (July to Aug 2023). Worst ever RIU I've stayed so far. Will not recommended nor will go back. Poor management, inconsistent service, bad customer service, favouritism towards locals, unfriendly, unwelcoming. 90% of the guest are locals. A lot of garbage left overnight at the beach, never picked up, lounge chairs were not cleaned up. Entertainment stage is located in the middle of resort, so you will hear all the noise, loud music, screaming people until it is over, no matter which part of hotel you are staying in. Food is repetitive, no themes, over salted most of the times, meat is overcooked. You will not be hungry, but nothing spectacular or memorable. Desert is boring, looks like chef has no idea what to cook for desert. I am a fan of RIU chain, but this one is decadently not in my list. Very disappointing experience.
My husband and I, along with another couple stayed at the Riu Playa Blanca in Panama from Nov 18 to Nov 25th 2022. This resort is beautiful! Very clean and well cared for. The food is top notch and the staff are very helpful. Some of the staff were not able to understand English very well so communication was difficult. The beach was beautiful although the ocean was red flagged the whole time we were there. I must give a big shout out to Maricruz who worked outside at the buffet. She was Fantastic! Very friendly and helpful! This young lady deserves a shout out! Overall we enjoyed our Vacation! This was the second time at this location. Our flight home with Sunwing had a lot of issues however! Not sure I will fly with them again...
I booked a 3 night stay at RIU in aruba. I stayed at divi divi 5 nights before RIU. Before arriving at RIU I noticed my reservation was reserved for only one person. I immediately called. I was told I cannot change the reservation to two people Because it was through Booking.com. I spoke with them via text for 3 days. They said RIU would not respond and they couldn't fix it. Called RIU back. They said they could not do anything. I would be charged a walk in fee when I arrived on Saturday. The girl was very rude. When asked for a manager she said she was as good as a manager. Said she didn't believe RIU didn't respond. When to RIU. Told the same thing. This place is horrible trying to charge me a walk in rate on Saturday. Scam. Do not stay there. Booking.com finally fixed the problem
Our stay riu las americas was VERY disappointing this time and this usually our favorite resort. Room was street view and tried to get another one and none were available. Sd could get one the next day and that didn't happen. Food was not quality that we normally get there and VERY disappointed that we didn't get lobster. This is one of biggest reasons we stay there. If it wasn't f.or Abu in lobby bar, our wk would of been a total disappointment. Sorry to say that may have been our last stay. Will warn others on my google that lobster isn't available, but still on menu. You need to put this on your website online, so guest will know. If I had known this we WOULDN"T have booked
RIU Hotels supports one of the cruelest practices in our food industry (google 'battery cages'). Confining animals in cages is a thing of the past and RIU seems to prefer profit over doing the right thing.
Riu refuses to go cage free because they prefer profit over doing the right thing. They are happy for birds to suffer in cages with no space to even spread their wings. Disgusting making money from the suffering and misery of other living beings.
Me decepcionó mucho saber que RIU Hotels está ignorando a los clientes sobre su falta de una política libre de jaulas. Esto es irresponsable y demuestra lo poco que les importa.
I won't stay at a hotel that is ok with severe animal cruelty in their supply chain. After several comments on social media, which they have been deleting, petition signatures, and calls to the company, they are still refusing to go cage-free like their competitors have done.
I contacted RIU about their cage-free policy and instead of replying to me, they deleted my comment and blocked me from further messaging them. Highly unprofessional. I won't stay at a hotel that blocks concerned customers.
RIU Hotels are still to this day refusing to implement a cage-free policy where hens are concerned. Look for more animal friendly hotels,, preferably those that serve vegan meals!
Please look into the eggs used in RIU meals. Hens trapped in tiny metal cages where they can barely spread their wings. This living condition would not be moral to keep cats or dogs in. Chickens are no exception.
I don't understand how your establishment can bear to mistreat hens. It is heinous and unacceptable. I cannot stay in a hotel that allows this cruelty.
WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT WHILE RESEARCHING RIU HOTELS FOR A COMING TRIP THIS SUMMER, I LEARNED ABOUT ITS DISMAL REPUTATION REGARDING ANIMAL CRUELTY AND SUCH (CRUELTY OF CAGED CHICKENS) SADLY, I CAN NOT SUPPORT A BUSINESS WITH SUCH CRUEL PRACTICES IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY AND WITHOUT REGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WILL LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR ACCOMMODATIONS.
I feel like the way you treat animals is very revealing as to how much you really care about others. RIU has been asked not to support the inhumane caging of chickens, but apparently profit is more important to them. Everything is connected. The well-being of those hens should be of concern to us all...
They condone one of the cruelest factory farm Industry's practices, by not going Cage free... They don't listen to the majority of their customers and public in general, who have e-mailed them regarding this!
RIU Hotels is falling behind their competitors when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility. Hundreds of companies have adopted cage-free egg policies to improve animal welfare in their supply chains, but RIU is refusing and there are petitions circling around about this. They would rather ignore the issue and their customers instead of commiting to improving the welfare of animals.
