Absolute worst experience of my entire life - I booked a package deal and called the Riu packages team to verify if I could cancel and that I was within the window to do (otherwise I would have NEVER cancelled and LOST ALL MY S3K). The agent advised that I could and since they can't reach the hotel after calling THREE times that I should do it online. I did it online and it said I get ZERO refund. I asked if they could reinstate it then and I would come on the trip and they said its not an option. I asked for a credit and that we would come stay at a later date, they declined. There is NO CARE OR SERVICE for people who work hard and do their best to work out a resolution. The manager declined the waiver sent for refund and declined to do anything on this matter. My family is now out of a vacation and $3k (I also cancelled my flight and took a loss there as well since they advised I could cancel still). Because I was MISINFORMED by THEIR agent I am not suffering a significant loss. Absolute fraud and horrible SERVICE!
Disgusting they could treat me this way.
I won't stay at a hotel that is ok with severe animal cruelty in their supply chain. After several comments on social media, which they have been deleting, petition signatures, and calls to the company, they are still refusing to go cage-free like their competitors have done.
Please look into the eggs used in RIU meals. Hens trapped in tiny metal cages where they can barely spread their wings. This living condition would not be moral to keep cats or dogs in. Chickens are no exception.
Riu refuses to go cage free because they prefer profit over doing the right thing. They are happy for birds to suffer in cages with no space to even spread their wings. Disgusting making money from the suffering and misery of other living beings.
I contacted RIU about their cage-free policy and instead of replying to me, they deleted my comment and blocked me from further messaging them. Highly unprofessional. I won't stay at a hotel that blocks concerned customers.
I don't go to hotels or restaurants that cruelly source their food supply. This chain is well aware that they are using caged hens and need to pay attention. Many people are concerned about ethics, the environment and consuming food from unhealthy animals.
I was looking for a hotel for my next trip, and I came across some controversy on RIU's animal welfare. Apparently they are refusing to adopt a cage-free egg policy and blocking anyone who asks about it. I won't stay at a hotel that blocks concerned customers. Please consider changing your animal welfare policies.
Just came back from RIU Dunamar Mexico. Spent 10 days there (July to Aug 2023). Worst ever RIU I've stayed so far. Will not recommended nor will go back. Poor management, inconsistent service, bad customer service, favouritism towards locals, unfriendly, unwelcoming. 90% of the guest are locals. A lot of garbage left overnight at the beach, never picked up, lounge chairs were not cleaned up. Entertainment stage is located in the middle of resort, so you will hear all the noise, loud music, screaming people until it is over, no matter which part of hotel you are staying in. Food is repetitive, no themes, over salted most of the times, meat is overcooked. You will not be hungry, but nothing spectacular or memorable. Desert is boring, looks like chef has no idea what to cook for desert. I am a fan of RIU chain, but this one is decadently not in my list. Very disappointing experience.
I can't get behind staying at a hotel that mistreats animals. In this case, while you're enjoying your Spanish omelet, they are harboring hens in cages too small for them to turn around in. It's sickening. No thanks.
I booked a 3 night stay at RIU in aruba. I stayed at divi divi 5 nights before RIU. Before arriving at RIU I noticed my reservation was reserved for only one person. I immediately called. I was told I cannot change the reservation to two people Because it was through Booking.com. I spoke with them via text for 3 days. They said RIU would not respond and they couldn't fix it. Called RIU back. They said they could not do anything. I would be charged a walk in fee when I arrived on Saturday. The girl was very rude. When asked for a manager she said she was as good as a manager. Said she didn't believe RIU didn't respond. When to RIU. Told the same thing. This place is horrible trying to charge me a walk in rate on Saturday. Scam. Do not stay there. Booking.com finally fixed the problem
Our stay riu las americas was VERY disappointing this time and this usually our favorite resort. Room was street view and tried to get another one and none were available. Sd could get one the next day and that didn't happen. Food was not quality that we normally get there and VERY disappointed that we didn't get lobster. This is one of biggest reasons we stay there. If it wasn't f.or Abu in lobby bar, our wk would of been a total disappointment. Sorry to say that may have been our last stay. Will warn others on my google that lobster isn't available, but still on menu. You need to put this on your website online, so guest will know. If I had known this we WOULDN"T have booked
I was very disappointed to learn that RIU Hotels is ignoring customers about their lack of a cage-free policy. This is irresponsible and shows how little they care.
WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT WHILE RESEARCHING RIU HOTELS FOR A COMING TRIP THIS SUMMER, I LEARNED ABOUT ITS DISMAL REPUTATION REGARDING ANIMAL CRUELTY AND SUCH (CRUELTY OF CAGED CHICKENS) SADLY, I CAN NOT SUPPORT A BUSINESS WITH SUCH CRUEL PRACTICES IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY AND WITHOUT REGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WILL LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR ACCOMMODATIONS.
RIU Hotels supports one of the cruelest practices in our food industry (google 'battery cages'). Confining animals in cages is a thing of the past and RIU seems to prefer profit over doing the right thing.
While searching for a RIU hotel, I came across a petition that is asking the company to go cage-free, and I looked more into this and apparently the company is not only refusing to go cage-free (like many other hotels have done), but they are also blocking anyone from asking about it. This is not the way to go about addressing this issue. They clearly do not care about animals or their customers.
RIU Hotels are still to this day refusing to implement a cage-free policy where hens are concerned. Look for more animal friendly hotels,, preferably those that serve vegan meals!
They condone one of the cruelest factory farm Industry's practices, by not going Cage free... They don't listen to the majority of their customers and public in general, who have e-mailed them regarding this!
Stayed at the rui tequila in playacar Mexico. Fantastic staff, rooms, pools, food, entertainment. If you want an all inclusive hotel that gives you the best of everything then this won't let you down!
I feel like the way you treat animals is very revealing as to how much you really care about others. RIU has been asked not to support the inhumane caging of chickens, but apparently profit is more important to them. Everything is connected. The well-being of those hens should be of concern to us all...
RIU Hotels is falling behind their competitors when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility. Hundreds of companies have adopted cage-free egg policies to improve animal welfare in their supply chains, but RIU is refusing and there are petitions circling around about this. They would rather ignore the issue and their customers instead of commiting to improving the welfare of animals.
RIU Hotels has a rating of 1.8 stars from 33 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. RIU Hotels ranks 380th among Hotels sites.
