Avoid rentalcars
September 29, 2021

This company is to be avoided if you want to rent a car. Youvbook and pay, than they cancel. Not reliable. They take the money and you have to wait until you get it back. Avoiddddd.

Booked a rental through Rentalcars.com. Picked up late at night after a long day of travelling, children crying, still a long drive ahead before we get to rest - you get the idea.
And the rental (Thrifty was the provider) STANK of cigarette use. It was terrible, but in the circumstances we were not about to go to the inevitably drawn out process of doing something about it right then. I attempted to use Thrify's customer service the next day, but was told I was calling outside of business hours - no-one ever picked up. In the middle of the day! As our rental period was only 2 days, I elected to speak to a rep in person when we returned the vehicle. By the way, a cigarette contaminated vehicle gets SO much worse when it heats up in the California sun... now my luggage and kids car seats stink too. Thrifty refused to do anything about it since we had booked through a 3rd party. So I contacted Rentalcars.com. They wouldn't do anything either unless I provided photographic proof before the end of the rental period. An impossible proposition. Actually they offered a 10% discount on a future rental. Pathetic! As if I'm going to ever use their services again!

DON'T USE RENTALCAR.COM
October 28, 2015

I agree with the advice below, RENTALCAR.COM are basically an agent and are not a member of the BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association). Like others I thought the fee charged was good value including the charge for vehicle cover etc. When I arrived at the hire company supplier EASIRENT (whom I would also avoid as they provided a car that had mechanical issues and despite promises over the four day hire was not replaced) I was charged an additional £120 for the same cover. My advice stick to the big companies, as in the end the cost was roughly the same.

I mistakenly booked for a pickup at my destination at 1am on August 18th instead of August 19th. When I tried to change my 2-week car reservation a few days later for a pick up at the correct time on the 19th, the rentalcars.com website forced me to rebook my entire reservation for an ADDITIONAL COST of nearly $200. As I couldn't believe that rentalcars.com would be expecting that I book a car rental for one less day for a HEFTY ADDITIONAL COST, I went ahead and called rentalcars.com to address the problem directly. What I received from their rep was a bunch of crap advising me that I would need to rebook at the higher cost... despite the fact that I would have been willing to pay the same original costs while picking up the vehicle a day later (i. E., same rent payment for one less day!). This is no way to treat customers...

Never order from them without verifying to which car rental cy they subcontract.
I paid 147 to Rentalcars for 2 weeks and they subcontracted to Centauro in Malaga. Centauro proposed me a full insurance for 228 (150% of the rental cost) that I refused. Inspecting the car before departure, I discovered 3 defects (one was highly legible) not recorded on the printed contract. When I came back, they discovered a scratch that I did not find initially and after 10 minutes discussion with their representative, he agreed to not charge back anything, signed my original contract with the date (8 March), his signature and an OK. Back at home, I found contrarily to their signature they picked up 250 on my credit card plus 25 for fuel service although I came back with a full tank. My complaint to them and to Rentalcars while providing my document with the OK on it was unuseful. Concerning Rentalcars, although I demonstrated to them the justifications of Centauro were either false or not exact, they did not care about my arguments. Concerning Centauro, in addition to the fact they give you a car with hidden defects not recorded by them, they very often use the same credit card charge procedure without advising you with a lot of their customers. If you don't believe me, then look at the following web site and some of the 218 reviews: http://www.reviewcentre.com/Car-Hire/Centauro-Rent-A-Car--review_*******

After my flight arrived 30 minutes late to Puerto Vallarta airport in the middle of the night, i find the car rental place that was supposed to have my car is closed so now I have to take a taxi to the hotel.
The next morning I call the phone number on the rentalcars booking printout to make sure I can pickup the car, I get a new confirmation number to take to the car place so I take a taxi back to find that my booking have been cancelled and the new confirmation number does not work.

I am staying in PV for three weeks and need a car for my plans otherwise my vacation is completely spoiled. The only option for me is to rent "another" car for more than twice the price than the car I booked with rentalcars.com. I contact rentalcars for a refund and the extra cost of the car I had to rent. They contact me 5 weeks later and proudly announce that they will now refund my initial cost but that they can not do anything about the extra cost incurred.

They made me chase my car for one day, incurring massive inconvenience, extra costs for taxi, and an additional 500 USD that I had to pay for the other car and made no effort whatsoever to make good on their commitment.

Please use another service if you want to make sure this does not happen to you.

I used it two times the site (yes one scam was not enough) they precharge the money and usually they should answer for the booking in reality they buy the rent for you from an official car hiting company so you still have to answerr the hie company to take the car from. So in case of an incident you still have to pay the full ammount to the official hire company then you may file a claim to rentalcars but you may immaging how difficult it could be.
Absolutly to avoid is far much better rent a car directly (which I did) you receive a much more professional customer service and usually the difference is 2/3 euro.
Definitly stay away

Paid for a premium package upgrade on last trip to Florida. Budget advised me I did not have the upgrade and would need to pay locally for additional drivers and return the car back full or be charged.

Rentalcars.com declined to address my problem, advising they could only do so once I returned home... Alarm Bells started to ring. I return home and all I got was mirrors and a smoke screen.

Budget were clear, they received payment from rentalscars.com for standard package only. Would rentalcars.com provide me a copy of their instruction and payment to Budget... No.

This company will certainly not be getting my custom again and I cannot recommend them, except maybe to my worst enemy, if I had one... Since I posted this review I have returned to using my old favourite, USRentacar. I discovered for my time slots and hire needs this year, they are more competetive than Rentalcars.com. The saving I will achieve will more than cover the money Rentalcars.com got out of me for extras that were paid for but not non-provided. At least check out USrentacar

We used www.rentalcars.com to book a week's rental car in Sicily. We also ordered a full insurance on the car. We paid with Visa card in total DKK 3,221.50. On arrival in Sicily we were refused to get the car on the grounds that the Visa card used was a debit card. The result was that we never got access to the car we had ordered and paid for. We were told to settle the matter with rentalcars.com. We have since communicated both orally and in writing with rentalcars.com, which refuses to refund anything other than our insurance money. Our claim is that rentalcars.com has a responsibility that we were not warned that the card we used to pay for the rent could not be used on arrival, as required by car rental. It is a very simple matter to let a website check the debit / credit status of a payment card, which is why we should have been warned already at the time of payment that this card could not be used in the further process.
There are indications that this "shortcoming" on the website is a deliberate part of rentalcars.com's business plan.
We contacted our bank and made a claim in which we asked them to have our money returned. After days and hours of documentation we got the refund, not from the company, but through the help of our bank.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY GO DIRECTLY TO A CAR HIRE SUCH AS AVIS ETC...
UNFORTUNATELY OUR FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED DIRECTLY BY THE AIRLINE SO THEREFORE WE COULDN'T MAKE USE OF OUR CAR BOOKING THAT WE HAD MADE WITH RENTALCARS, WHICH WAS NOT OUR FAULT AS IT WAS THE AIRLINE THAT CANCELLED THE FLIGHT.
WELL GUESS WHAT RENTALCARS DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT AND I LOST 1348.00 FOR NOTHING.
NO COMPENSATION, NO DISCOUNT, NOTHING GOT ZERO HELP AND ZERO REFUND.
NO COMPROMISING NOTHING.
AT THE END OF THE DAY THAT IS MY HARD EARNED MONEY THAT I HAVE TO WORK HARD FOR AND CLASS IT AS A DONATION OF 1348.00 THAT I JUST LOST.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I WAS ADVISED IN FUTURE TO GO DIRECTLY TO CAR HIRE PLACE SUCH AS AVIS, THRIFTY ETC AS THEY CAN MAKE CHANGES, REFUNDS ETC.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY...

Easirent Van Rental Shannon Airport Booking Number: ******* JUNE 2nd 2022

I really should have paid attention to the reviews of this firm ….

Our delayed Ryanair flight resulted in us arriving at Shannon late afternoon, an hour and a half late. There should have been no worries as Easirent terms state they hold bookings for 4 hours and their office is open until 12.30am. WRONG!

On arrival I found no one was at Easirent Shannon and discovered everyone had GONE HOME FOR WEEKEND!

After contacting their Dublin Office I was informed that our booking had been treated as "no show"and staff would only collect us if we paid an additional 120 Euros. Faced with this virtual blackmail and the prospect of being stranded, I very reluctantly agreed to pay this extortionate fee.

BTW forget about complaining to their Customer Services whop totally dismissed this complaint…. I suggest you definitely dismiss the idea of d booking with these guys.

Scam, scam, scam.
January 10, 2020

I booked a reservation thru rentalcars.com for a car in Puerto Vallarta. Upon arrival the employee, Fernanda told us our car was not available and to come back in one hour, 4 pm. When I returned she said they still had no car to give us, but it would be available by 8 pm. She said they would deliver the car to where we were staying by 9 pm and they would also deduct the cost of our taxi, $36 US dollars. I left her with 2 phone numbers and our address to contact us upon their arrival. She in return gave me a phone number to call should we have any questions, *******111, which turned out to be bogus. We waited till 11 pm and no car delivered. The number on the Dollar mexican website, ************** also was bogus, no one ever answers. The next day up till noon we still had no word on our car. My husband and i rented another car for our family as we had obligations. It is now 2 DAYS LATER and NO ONE from dollar has still contacted us. Nocar, no refund! Rentalcras.com has given us the runaround on a refund. Implied it was our fault!

Complete Rip-off
April 27, 2016

Rentalcars.com is a complete rip-off. I booked an Avis rental car through them for a Costa Rica trip. I followed all the requirements including having a letter from my bank confirming that I had rental car insurance coverage with my credit card. When I arrived, Avis wouldn't accept the letter saying that since I booked through a 3rd party, I had to pay for their coverage (an additional $152 for the week).

The rental was fine and I got it dropped off; Avis handed me a receipt and said everything was fine. When I got home, I went through my bank statement and saw that Avis had also charged me for the car ( I was charged by Rentalcars.com when I booked online). I corresponded with Rentalcars.com about both the over-charge and the double charge. They said they could help with insurance issue, because I signed the Avis rental agreement (what else was I supposed to do?). It's now been over 2 months and they won't address the double charge. I had to file a dispute with my bank. I'll never use these guys again.

Highway Robbery
January 26, 2020

I showed up to pick up the car was told that because I was a Florida resident I will have to pay $500 deposit, once I told them no the rep at the counter gave me the wrong number to call and ask for a refund after calling the number about 12 times someone call me to tell me that I was calling the wrong place, give another number and that place told me that I called after my pick up time so therefore I couldn't get my refund! What a freaking scam! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! They refuse to give me back my money and then had the nerve to tell me to calm down that she was trying to help me!

This place is awful. They failed to note in the reservation process that some facilities do not have on-site parking, or that you should check with the rental car location to determine whether they have on-site parking. Now, I have to pay an extra $150 to park at the airport or I have to cancel and make a different reservation at another place that has on-site parking, but because my reservation is 2 days away, the prices have skyrocketed since I made my reservation.

Because the problem is a failure to provide important information during the rental process, this is the fault of RentalCars.com not the company that is actually providing the car.

When I called RentalCars.com, the supervisor repeatedly talked over me, repeatedly said there was nothing he could do, and repeatedly argued that because RentalCars.com does not take the payment, they have no obligation to uphold any promise to the consumer or to provide the consumer with relevant information. Statements like these are false as a matter of law, and companies that purport to reserve a car at a certain price are acting fraudulently if they think they don't actually have to honor the price.

I relied upon the reservation I booked with RentalCars.com. They owe me either a parking voucher or a new reservation at the cost of my old reservation. They refused both requests and said they didn't need to do anything (not just that they couldn't, but that they didn't have to). Avoid this place like the plague and show this company how the free market works.

Booked with company and received a message indicating my rental code. When I went to collect card I was told I should have brought more ID, however this wasn't on the notification I received. I asked "Andy", working at the office in Ponteland, Northumberland on 17/06, what options were, to be told if I collected some more ID I would be ok; spent £40 on taxis getting said ID only to discover on returning that "Andy" had left, my car had been allocated to someone else as I was late and there was not record of me being there at my original allotted time. It might have been nice of "Andy" to have been a little bit more informative on this front, but I think that was stretching it as just asking him to help with a taxi number to get a lift from his office seemed to be far beneath him. I ended up being stuck with losing my payment or having to fork out for a more expensive car. At the Ponteland, Northumberland office customer service was in short supply, while my rental was being sorted out there was an on going argument with a customer already at the office.

Réf *******

I have booked a car and payed online with Rentalcars at Rome fiumicino airport with Goldcar renting company for 139 euros. Arrived at the airport the person at the counter told us that he is not accepting our Visa international credit card for insurance deductible because he says it is a debit card. Actually it is a standard Credit card that most people use. Then I proposed to use a mastercard gold which he also refused. Actually they would accept my credit card only if I take a full insurance and therefore I have to pay 190 euros more. This is simply stealing money from customer by forcing them to pay much more than the price given by rentalcars. I have refused this blackmail and rented a car from another company (by the way they have accepted my credit car without any problems). However having booked with rentalcars probably in collusion with Goldcar, I will have to pay 3 days of car renting although I didn't rent any car with them. Therefore I will not get refund. Their behaviour is such a shame... Don't trust positive reviews on car renting companyies on rentalcars.com. It was my mistake.
