Outdated features. Rude customer service. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST!
Domain transferring features are absolutely terrible. LEVEL 1 support is a waste of time and has no idea how the DNS layer operates.
I received an email from register.com claiming my site had a trademark infringement. The trademark they cited is not on my site anywhere that I can see. But they suspended my site and kept saying I had to remove the offending content. At least 3 of their support reps confirmed my site does not contain this content. But I continued to be told by their "abuse" team (interesting name for it ad I feel they abused me) to remove it to get my site turned back on. Then I was told my site had been hacked and I needed to pay them $200 to have it cleaned. Of content their reps said wasn't there. But the fine print on that service says they cannot 100% guarantee that all malware will be found and removed. Then on another call I was again told the offending content wasn't there and that my website would be turned back on and the abuse team would call to apologize. The site was turned on but I was sent another email stating I need to remove the offending content within 48 hours. I spoke to more than a half dozen reps and got a different story every time, and no one did what they said they were going to do.
I finally said just cancel my service, I am going elsewhere. But I had just renewed 2 months ago and I asked for a partial refund. I was told I would get it by the rep on the phone. A few hours later I got an email saying sorry we are not going to do that. Again, they say one thing and then do another.
Stay away from these crooks!
I am a small business owner. I purchased a domain name in June and I began to pay for a security certificate. In November I started to pay for hosting. It never worked right. There was always something going wrong. After six weeks of being bounced around from agent to agent, I found out from Adobe Portfolio that I never needed to buy hosting or a security certificate from Register as Adobe provides both for me. You would think that someone at Register might know that, but no. Every time I spoke to Register I dealt with another person who only knew what went on in their department. No one could look at the big picture and help me figure out what was wrong. There was no continuity in the customer service I received and no refunds and I am still getting emails about needing a CSR for the security certificate I no longer have!
Absolutely one the worst companies to work with. I've tried 4 times to transfer a domain and it is still not completed. Each contact I'm assured it will get done. The only thing I get is more emails trying to sell me something. They're great at taking my money but zero help when you need to get something done.
Guys dont buy any domains or transfer your domain to register.com they will transfer your domain for cheap and then harass you for transfer asking for $350 when i had asked epp code just before expiry they would delay then put your domain in delete mode and say we cannot generate auth code u have to redeem the site i have transferred from other domain providers even after expiry they had not harassed me like this. Its a ripoff please be advised they will not provide any email communication because it can be used as evidence
I just killed the email account I had with Register.com. I don't even want a refund; I just want OUT! For years I suffered with techs who speak poor English and rarely fix any problems. They tried to get me to pay them $99 to fix a problem THEY caused, because they switched servers (or something like that). NOT MY FAULT. Avoid companies that use off-shore workers.
I belonged to Register.com for over 20 years. I finally quit because I was getting 150 spams and spoofs DAILY. I couldn't handle them.
Now, a year later...I want my domain name back so I can use it elsewhere. Register.com has basically "KIDNAPPED IT" and are holding it RANSOM. The Ramson is NOT money. They want personal info that is personal and I am unwilling to share...such as a Goverment ID with a Color Photo of me and Utility bills where the address agrees with government ID. So funny, because all our Utility type bills are in my husband's name... BTW, I'm 80 years *******@mac.com
This is the absolute worst hosting platform I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. Their service doesn't work at all and when you try to fix this they tell you that you can pay them to help you OR pay Wordpress to troubleshoot it.
They don't have a c-panel so GOOD LUCK getting anything meaningful done.
Their customer service is so slow that you either give up or just call them.
Go with ANY OTHER provider, or have fun throwing your money away.
To begin, I think rating of 1.3 is way too generous. Anything above 1 assumes presence of IQ or at least basic competency - that certainly doesn't exist along with customer service. On hold for hours, chat is staffed by people who have no clue how any of this stuff works.
As a web developer, I have worked with different Registrars for 25+ years now and Register.com is near the bottom of the list (along with Godaddy). Apparently there was an issue with a card and among their barrage of daily spam emails there might have been a notice about this. Regardless, we are now almost 30 hours in, after providing new credit card info, for them to restore our site. Spent hours on chat and the phone and they still cannot tell us when they may get around to restoring our email and web services. You keep getting bounced around from all these different departments but in the end, 30 hrs in we are still down. I should also note that the disputed charge was for a service we were not even using and they took it upon themselves to alter our DNS name servers. Just an amazingly bad company all around.
This is probably the top of the horrible experience in my 20+ years of IT career. I inherited over 30+ domains under register.com at my job and it took almost 6 months to complete the transfer-out process. I spent countless hours dealing with their customer service, averaging 30 - 1 hour wait at the phone listening to their stupid waiting music. I just don't see any reason for a sane person to subscribe to their services. As an individual consumer, there are cheaper options and WAY better customer service who care about your business. As a business consumer, their infrastructure is severely outdated with horrible customer support. Uninformed people will probably subscribe to their service due to their popular domain name (register.com) but please do your research before falling into the trap.
Register.com seem to be a very big business operating out of the U.S. whilst they do appear to have lots of 'satisfied' customers they also have many who they have hacked off - I'm one of them! Do not sign up for any of their services without reviewing their criticism on a number of sites on the web including Sitejabber. I am having on-going problems with them taking unauthorised payments from my CC account. Even the CC company seem unable to stop them. Once they have your account details they will persistently take your money and you will not be able to prevent it.Be warned!
It used to be a good service provider when I became their customer in 1997. Nowadays, it is only interested in getting new sales and does not care for its old customers. Its help service on its site has become totally irrelevant and people who are supposed to help on the phone can't speak English well and nor are they knowledgeable.
Our business email has been out 5 days. We called these sad excuse of a company and they said we were on an old email system and needed to upgrade. It would take 4 hours. We had to pay $180 more. They never told us about an upgrade. Now they said to wait another 4 hours. These people are business killers. How about they pay us for hurting business. I am going to look for another service as I see they are rated #70 and now I know why. Total garbage steer away. Now 7 days they are completely useless. This company is horrible do not use them you will be sorry.
Business site down due to no ssl cert which is issued by reg.com in the 1st place. Dozens of calls round in a circle for several weeks with no way out. Each call you start from scratch. Loads of promises going nowhere. Only progress is when I contact the President of the company who put me in touch with a top manager who resolved the issue quickly. I have had to contact the President twice in the last couple of years in order to get issues resolved. This is not good enough. Thousands of $ lost because of lost bookings. We are a travel business.
Register.com charged us for an extra year ONLY because they had delayed the transfer of a domain past the renewal date. After every one of 4 phone calls, they assured us that they would refund the $48.00 in fees for that extra year we didn't need.
Now more than 2 months later, they still haven't refunded the money that promised they would after every one of 4 phone calls to them. It's just the same old game of stall, stall, stall and see if they will go away. In the end, if I ever do get my money back, it'll have cost me way more than $48 in my time.
There are plenty of other inexpensive Registrars out there. I'm not here to promote them. I'm just warning you about these guys. They just want your money and they don't care if they give you anything in return.
About December of 2013 they decided that they didn't want to maintain their very first websites called first step websites so they just "dumped" them with no warning. They are gone. You never got a chance to try to save them, to upgrade them,... nothing. A lot of folks work was trashed and lost. That's not the kind of website that you want to trust to protect your data but I'm not yet sure that any other such website is any better.
Register.com is the worst domain name registrar I've ever experienced. The service is unreliable, their customer service is outright horrendous and their tech support is incompetent, understaffed or both.
I had the displeasure of trying to resolve a DNS propagation issue with Register.com. Every customer service representative I spoke to had different excuses and details. They constantly misled us about the progress of resolution and kept back the timeframe. No details were ever explained, Customer Service continually provided vague explanations such as "This has been escalated to Senior Admin." When I asked to speak to a manager I was treated with hostility. The DNS propagation was was supposed to be resolved in 24-48 hours. As of this review it is 120 hours. Our business got to a point where we had to transfer our domain name registrar. At that point they stopped work completely.
Regarding the transfer of our domain name registrar, ICANN standards are 5-7 business days. Register.com Customer Service team told me that our domain would be released in 7-10 days, a clear violation of standards.
Spoke with Craig in Nova Scotia this morning re: cancellation of my website because I'm now retired and no longer wish or need to have an internet presence. Not only was he completely professional, he was friendly and helpful. (Of course he followed corporate "script" re: renewal for a discount, etc. which I imagine is obligatory, but not with a 'pushy/obnoxious' approach I've endured many times with reps from other businesses.). I've been with Register.com for over 10 years and have always had positive experiences with associates and I shall continue to recommend your company to friends and colleagues... Jerry MacLauchlin
Register.com is garbage. They are good at one thing: registering your domain in 1999. Never give them your credit card for any reason. Today I authorized an $11 charge. Just got an American Express alert they charged my card $75.97. This is the $#*! I'm talking about. Shady, shady, shady. Most dishonest company I've ever dealt with. Only time in my life I couldn't get a vendor to reverse a charge for a non-functioning product, so I disputed with AmEx and *they* reversed the charge for me. I cannot even articulate what absolute trash these thieves and con artists are.
Answer: I was working with a consultant from the Small Business Development Center when I began my business. She advised me to register my LLC and then to go to Register.com to buy the domain name before anyone else could. Later on, she suggested Register when I was looking for hosting.
