The available selection is atrocious. We have 92 Lego sets on our wishlist and the last few times we were able to pick a toy, there was not a single set available to select. The two times before that, the only sets were tiny 100 piece sets. They clearly have too many members and everything is always checked out now.
Turnaround time for mailing is horrendous. We picked our last toy on the 1st of the month and it didn't mail until the 12th.
They tout a satisfaction guarantee, but you can't cancel for a pro-rate if you have paid for a full year. Also before the last renewal period I had a $10 credit for something that happened the year before and it didn't automatically apply to my account! I was told I had to go into my account and say I wanted to use this credit, even though it's just sitting there. What? (I still have the credit and won't be able to use it now since I do not plan to renew)
The Lego sets are always missing pieces now because they have too many users. Twice, those pieces have been integral to the build of the set.
Basically for at least the last 6 months my kid has been able to get 4 toys and they have all been very sub-par. I could have bought him a $20 toy each of those months and he would have been so much happier, not to mention a better value. When we first joined the service a couple years ago, he was able to get a constant stream of cool Lego sets, which were mailed promptly.
Sad and clear situation of a company that has not grown with its membership.
This is a horribly run business and I am extremely disappointed in the service I have received. Not only was the only toy I received completely inappropriate for my 2 year old (choking hazard), the company continued to charge my card after I cancelled my service and refused to issue refund.
This site sounds great, and actually used to be ok. I have 100 lego sets in my 'Pley List'. When I get to choose a toy - there are 50+ options... Less than 5 are legos and NONE are the sets from my pley list. The choices are toys for 2 years olds, dolls, books, childrens toys and such. So if you have 2 year old, looking to play with used dolls - this is the site for you! Otherwise - avoid. BTW - tried to cancel - can't. Locked in. Voiced concerns every month for the last 6 months - nothing has been done. I receive generic answers and pointed to the Q/A. Horrible experience.
Automatic service renew even though you don't agree and they will not refund any unused money.
Takes 1 month turn around time to get you. Could buy toy cheaper than to rent.
Horrible customer service. No 1800 number and they do not respond to emails
The only way to see what toys are available in the premium level plan is to upgrade to that plan. They put the huge "upgrade" button on each of the premium level toys, which implies that if you upgrade you get access to them. I repeatedly request via email to know which toys are available before upgrading, and they give me the excuse:
"There is no way to see if a specific toy is in stock until you are an active member and its time to select a toy, then during that time we show you a live snapshot of our inventory, Our inventory of available toys is being updated several times a day as new toys get checked in and others go out."
Unfortunately once I did decide to activate a premium subscription, it showed that none of the toys I wanted were available, even though it implies if you upgarde you get access to it.
I put my account on hold because they say they're going to get the toys once people return them. Over a period of 5 months I consistently ask them if the toys I want are available, and they say no. I ask how can I see which are available before activating my account, and they say it's impossible until you actually activate it.
What a total scam. They should be sued for lying to their customer and tricking them into paying for a service they're not offering.
I feel totally ripped off.
We started getting our 7yo a subscription to this a year ago, and while it started out decent, it has drastically gone down hill.
Missing pieces, ripped instructions, and TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE selection. Most of the good sets are neve available, even though we've had them on our list for over a year. Usually we get shipped a random set that is of no interest to our son, or is so ridiculously easy he can't really be bothered putting it together. It lays around our house until we finally get back in the mail only to
Wait 2-3wks for something new, and equally disappointing.
We won't be renewing to say the least, and are thinking about trying to seek a refund, which from the sounds of other posts doesn't really look possible.
Save you money. Avoid it.
Watch out, if you do not remember to cancel after the initial terms of your membership you will be charged an annual membership $100+ WITH NOT ABILITY TO CANCEL WITH A PRORATED REFUND!
Turnaround time was slow. Chronic problem with missing pieces.
They trick you into signing up for $12.99 but then you have to pay for shipping if you want a toy at all! Then when you try to cancel they REMOVED THE CANCEL BUTTON!
They use to have the cancel button but they REMOVED IT. This company is the biggest scam!
Don't waste your money.
Please don't waste money with this company. The concept looks cool and their marketing does a great job of bringing you onboard. Once you are onboard, soon you will realize that it takes 2 weeks to send and receive a new toy. You can create a playlist but most likely will receive a different toy. Very often there is no tracking for returned toys and you keep wondering what happened to your return. Customer service is frustrating and they will not take any ownership of issue resolution. I would say that this is a classic example of an excellent idea poorly executed.
My daughter asked for money for her birthday and with her own money, she got a 6 month subscription. They NEVER sent a complete set. I complained mutilple times. They wouldn't even send me the instructions when they were left out! Do not even consider this site. Buy Legos, trade with your friends. My 7 year old and I learned a big lesson.
This business exploit children's emotions and their parents money. They send rubbish toys, what you want is never available. It takes ages to get the toy you want. This business should be stopped immediately at least in the US.
Tried to purchase a 1-month subscription as a gift for my husband so he could build some more expensive LEGO sets. The basic plan include absolutely none of the many sets he would have like to build. The plan he needed was double ($50/month!). They refused to refund me, even before we ever had a toy sent.
The whole thing is a big scam. The toys under the basic plan are meant for infants. None of the toys show whether or not they require the more expensive subscription until after you've already paid. It's all a huge false advertising scam. Don't do it.
This business idea is ripe for a copycat provider to take over and win because Pley.com is missing the boat on customer service. It is a great idea and should work, but the site is sub-par and they send out toys that you haven't asked for. The customer service is the worst and their advertising is disingenuous. I hope they can get their act together and make this idea work, which is why I am giving feedback, but very frustrated with them right now. Buyer beware.
My 9 year old loves Legos... so his grandparents bought a 6 mo subscription as a gift. The problem is that he only likes certain Legos, not all of them. So when you look online, it looks as if there are plenty of sets that he likes to choose from, but the problem is that when the time comes for them to send a Lego set, there are none available from the sets that he likes. So they would send something that my son either already had, didn't like, or was too easy. So the set would arrive, sit unopened on his desk for 2 weeks, and then I would send it back without him even playing with it. This happened multiple times, so it was a waste. We cancelled our subscription early. Not good for us.
We purchased the 'Gift' for our grandson, never realizing that there was an automatic renewal after the 6 months gift had finished. Why designate one a 'Gift' and the other method a 'Subscription'? GIft sounds like a one time 'Gift' to me. Grandson not impressed as frequently the kits selected were not available and were substituted by ones to easy or not of any interest to him.
After receiving another $95.00 charge and inquiring with Pley, I was basically told, 'Tough luck'. No way to cancel, no way to get refund.
Even though it sounds good on paper, poor service and even poorer customer service.
The negative reviews - I agree with.
I really wanted it to work and liked the idea but I just wish I looked up for reviews before I signed up.
Because guess what? Duh, me suck'r and I aint getting my money back once I signed up & wanted to cancel. Loser! Woe me!
But all of that was said in the most polite manner, I'll give you that. Such as, you pay for 6 months and that was discounted (something around $120 for 6mos) than the monthly fee (I think it is $30-40). Hmmm, lets do the math... cancel & charge first month 40 or keep $120. Counting my beans. Deal with it consumer.
Plus, Customer service essentially told me what are they to do if they are shipping late. Oh poor you, except that is their business model. Perhaps they shd disclose it then that a) they ship must after they can b)UPS etc may delay for many reasons but not notify you (by 5 days for me) c) you likely will only get 1 or at most 2 in a month. Worth it? NAH NAH NAH.
I also happen to look at the site thebrickblogger dot com today & she mentioned some of these but she thought the most one can get 2-3 per month. (Her pricing structure is also different than what I signed up for.) Sadly, it is 1 for me and isn't looking good. Perhaps a BBB query on what they are accountable.
It literally took me 2 months to receive this toy which was a present for my sons birthday. After his asking me daily when he would receive it, I sent several emails and was completely shot down by the customer service acting manager Timothy and "Customer Service" rep. Amanda. They said they had problems documenting when they receive the toys back. This delayed my shipment. Problem was, I had already spoke with "customer service" 2 weeks prior about the same issue and the same toy. When I told Timothy this, he said he had no way of referencing previous correspondence with my account REALLY!? YOU GUYS CANG TRACK EMAILS?!$... Overall an awful experience which could have been remedied by the basic customer service we have come to expect in America. Definitely do not get the year contract. With one toy every month that = 6 toys a year with Zero customer service.
I had a wonderful experience with this company. I ordered the Pley set for 3 months for my beau who just graduated from college. He is a Legos fanatic, and growing up he wasn't given a lot of sets (because they are expensive to purchase). This service has given him the opportunity to build sets he never would have had the chance to build growing up.
Also, the customer service is SPOT ON. I have communicated with the company several times, and have either gotten someone on the line the moment I call, or I leave a message and get a response that day or the next morning. Even emails are sent back promptly and with all questions answered.
They tell you that you can cancel at any time, but canceling does not mean giving you money back. Very disappointed with the company and their policies. Buyer beware. Many other better companies that do the same thing.
This website offers a "free trial" on all their marketing. Don't trust them. They billed me immediately before I received anything from them. And they won't refund me now because they say they have changed their policy to not include free trials. However their web page still shows the link for the free trial. This is online fraud at its worst.
Answer: Hi and for all customer having the same question. I am one of the subscribers like you and am having the same situation. I have contacted them via email, which is the only way, and have got zero response. I filed a disputes to the membership charge with my credit card company. Then I filed an official complain at BBB. BBB is undergoing a formal investigation on them. I hope hat there will be some constructive results.
