My Mom asked what I wanted for the kids last year (she is out of state) and I suggested PLEY. I have 4 kids, and my oldest is an avid lego builder but the last thing I want is more legos to store so I thought this would be a great thing for him... my girls should also enjoy it, and I suggested it for my nephew. Boy did I screw up. In the beginning things seemed to be going ok - my boy was able to get his hands on a few lego starwars sets and he was happy. My 4 year old got some kinetic sand she was able to keep and didn't have to return so she was happy and my nephew ordered a nerf gun. That is about it... after several months my daughter lost interest and asked Grammy to cancel her account... she did and Pley offered to distribute her accumulated credits among the other kids... that never happened, but no matter - each kids had a few credits anyway... But then they just stopped providing a way for us to access any rentals through our dash board. We have been waiting and waiting but still nothing. My mom is OVER paying for the subscription and told them that December was the last month. I have been desperately trying to use credits so that they won't be wasted but the rental button has not appeared on any one's account in months (despite toys being sent back - I have receipts to prove it) and after my mom called to tell them that they can no longer charge her card (even though we are paid through DECEMBER) our accounts are no longer accessible... Terrible customer service... terrible company... good idea... don't give your money to these people.

Stay away from PLEY. I thought their service was great, we pooled together with friends to gift it to many of my sons friends. But after a few months they have just stopped sending us the toys, we've received nothing for 6 weeks (they claim a 24-48 hour turn around on receipt of a toy) and their customer service will do NOTHING to assist. Its a total scam, robbery. Stay away

I too felt taken advantage of by their auto-subscription requirement. I was given a gift certificate from my brother- in order to redeem you need to provide a credit card and agree to sign up for a subscription that automatically renews.

Their website doesn't allow you to see the balance on the account so there's not way to avoid being charged. They also never send receipts for the bills- it seems clear they hope people don't notice the charges for a few months.

I've tried to contact Pley via e-mail and phone several times but they're unwilling to respond.

Gone way down hill
November 19, 2017

In the beginning it was a great service with lots of LEGO sets to choose from and quick turnaround, but it has seriously gone down hill in the past couple of months. Since it was a great service, we tolerated low inventory and delayed shipment when they moved warehouse outside of CA and had no one working during the holidays. Customer services was quick to respond and gave credit.

When we went to pick a Lego set at the beginning of Oct, we noted low inventory - there was less than 80 sets available - and it stayed that way for a week. We finally picked the set but the status has been "processing your shipment" for over a month. After first, I received good customer service response. They explained that there was a warehouse move, some mistakes were made, and they added credit twice to my account then they stop responding to my customer requests which basically was asking when the set would be shipped.

My 6-mos subscription ended so I switched to month-to-month at the start of November using the credits. I have enough credits for another month but what's the point of continuing. My child has stopped asking me when the set is coming.

Something is definitely wrong in Pley land!

We gave this as a gift... I think accidentally... to a family member last Christmas. They did not use the service because they got one or two toys and decided not to continue. Unfortunately I didn't catch that we were still making a $12.99 a month payment to pley.com until last week. So we have sent the company around $130 for a product we apparently aren't using. There are no phone numbers that I can find to speak to an actual individual with pley.com. The one corporate phone number that I found online goes to voicemail and then says the mailbox is full. When I reached the online customer support 'ninja' (that's what they call themselves), I was told that they could not issue a refund because of the the terms of the agreement we signed when we subscribed. All I would like to do at this point is speak to someone on the phone but I was told they only handle customer support over email. In my opinion, never do business with a company that hides. If they are 'hiding' they have a reason. Waiting on a reply from the customer service ninja to see if they will honor my request as a paying 'client' to speak to someone at their company.

Designed to scam
October 21, 2017

Lets take a look at the business model. $12.99 per credit. It usually takes 5 business days (1 week for the toy to arrive). And it is not that we exist in the world to play Pley. So, it takes another week or two for the kid to finish building the toy and then we decide to return it. Another week passes by before the toy could reach them so that we can order the next one. It means you can rent only one toy per month realistically speaking.

Add the $6 you have to pay for every delivery. It means it takes close to $19 to rent a toy. That's roughly the average cost of a Lego toy if you want to buy them.

On top of it, if you have accrued credits there is no way to pause the subscription or cancel the subscription without losing them. After all, these are credits which I had bought with money. Why cant I get to keep them.

I am canceling my subscription even though it means losing credits. Cant continue with this without being feeling cheated.

Bad deal
October 19, 2017

A toy was lost in shipment and we had to buy it, could not cancel our service until we did, so we racked-up 4 months of $12.99/month charges without a toy and had to pay $30 for the lost toy!

We've been members at pley for a little over 4 months now. We haven't had any issues getting toys, and they have always arrived in working order with hardly ever a piece misisng. I have had good luck working with customer service, and have found them to be helpful.

Scam
September 27, 2017

I can't even really give this scam one star. My brother got us a membership as a Christmas gift, we went on, signed up and selected every building set list on the site. In August I got an email from them saying that the payment for the subscription had failed. WE HAVE NEVER GOTTEN A SINGLE TOY! I thought my brother had just signed up for a month and that is why we never got anything, but I just went on the website and saw that we are apparently still on the waiting list for every single building set on the site. For 8 months they collected our money and we never once got a single toy. When I tried to contact them, I was told that sometimes there is a waiting list for certain toys and that I should be more open to different types of toys. This might makes sense except 8 months seems ludacris, we have over half the toys on the site selected, and they refused to offer a refund. This is clearly a scam. Please do not sent them your money.

I was really excited when I heard about this company because it seemed like a great way for my kids to build more Legos without having to collect more in our home (we already have so many!). We received a gift card for Christmas and the gifter told us what a bad experience he had just ordering the gift card, so I already had a heads up that things wouldn't go well. Still, I held out hope.

There are many details you don't know until you actually sign up, so it all seems like a great idea until you have to actually use it. They encourage you to sign up for the 3-credit/month option to get better toys, but they don't show you what your options will be until you sign up. In the 9 months we've had this subscription, we have never needed to use 3 credits for a toy as there are very few 3-credit Legos offered.

They also encourage you to keep the toy for as long as you want, but continue to charge you if you don't send it back by the next month and send no reminders about sending it back or charging. There is also no way to skip a month if your child is enjoying the toy and you are not ready to send it back yet (other subscription services offer this). Once you do send a toy back, there is a lag time before you receive your next one (at least a week), so we have never needed more than one credit per month, sometimes less.

I've belonged to a number of subscription services and have always received something for the monthly charge, except with Pley. It is very easy to build up unused credits because of the reasons mentioned above. If you do build up unused credits and contact them about it, they will put your account on a maximum 90-day hold, but then will continue to charge you for more credits after that even if you haven't made it through the old ones.

It seems to me that the only way Pley makes a profit is by screwing people out of their money.

They don't clean the toys, and my child was playing with one of the toys. Kid put stuff in their mouth. Two days later the fever starts and the blisters popped up, and it was a full blown herpes breakout. I know it was the pley toys. Clean your used toys.

So we have been subscribed since December 2015. We didnt receive our first Lego until February. Thought it was along time, but we were new and had to work out the sign up and listing kinks. I signed up for the 6 month subscription and yep was suckered in for the autorenewal. With four kids we thought for sure we did get our money's worth and would give it another go. We sent out last you back December 2016 and still have YET to receive another toy in July 2017. Quite frankly I thought the subscription was up and had not paid it much mind until TODAY JULY 7TH 2017, when I received an email staing my credit card on file had expired (thankfully i had it replaced due to wear) and THEY were going to cancel my subscription if I didn't update the information. For your information I will do some quick math for you: 6 total toys at 19.99 month over the last 18 months = $359.82! Or how about $59.97 per toy to play with AND return! So total investment=a waste of money! Please don't get me wrong, I have pictures from my subscription to prove my previous statements, I am also a subscriber to other services, but be warned!

They are horrible. I ended up having to get my credit card company involved because they were using a bait and switch to overcharge me. Avoid this company!

You're better off buying the toys and then selling them when finished. The selection is more limited than expected and takes forever. Customer service is MIA.

Pley is really poor: Overall selection is poor and selection when you pick your next set is terrible - what's offered was filled with toys for toddlers (my son is 7) that were not on the Pleylist. Most sets came with too many missing pieces, so some were unusable, but Pley gave no credit when that happened. Customer Service is very poor - unresponsive or unhelpful when they do respond. Shipping times much too long, we only got 2 sets per month because of the 7-10 day shipping wait times. Great idea, but what a shame their execution is so poor.

The worst service
February 6, 2017

This was a gift for a grandchild. He did not send it back for the next toy, and we kept getting billed month after month. We complained and asked for a refund for toys not sent, we were told basically too bad, if he did not send back the toy then they charge every month ( 27.50x 8 months!)until they receive the toy back. Ridiculous - no credit given once sent back- almost $230 for a $20 toy!) very disappointing- and it was impossible to speak to a human being when we realized he did not like the toy and would not want other toys to come - we expected there would be some way easy to cancel. There was no letter sent, no reminder- hey where are you? Just month after month a riiculus sum and no attempt to give a refund at all.

It seems I'm not the only dissatisfied customer. Rather than charging month to month like Netflix or other subscription services, Pley charges 6 months upfront and auto-renews your membership. I was in the hospital and unable to cancel when my account auto-renewed and I've literally been charged nearly $250 for renting three small to medium-sized Lego sets. Robert of customer service didn't offer even a partial refund for the 6 months of unused membership. I've never heard of a company that will take $120 from a customer for zero services received. Heed the advice of the majority of reviewers here and avoid this shady company like the plague!

This must be a scam
February 3, 2017

I orered a subscription as a gift and I couldn't cancel it. There was no number to call or an email to contact them. You can only contact the company through the web site and when I did they said they didn't get it! The child hadn't rented any toys for two months so I should have been able to cancel and I still couldn't! When I could finally cancel it, it was almost one month after the date after the renewal and they wouldn't refund!
