The overall reputation of the company reflects significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding its customer service and support. Many reviews highlight frustrations with delayed transactions, ineffective resolution of disputes, and a lack of proactive communication. Customers frequently report feeling unsupported in cases of fraud or issues with received goods. However, some positive sentiments emerge, particularly regarding the perceived reliability of PayPal as a payment method for certain transactions, which customers associate with enhanced buyer protection. Despite this, the overwhelming trend indicates a critical need for improvement in customer service responsiveness and dispute resolution processes.

I have been transferring funds through PayPal for several years now. Since 2017 I have transferred fairly large amounts to the same individual, as in $650 to $750 at a time every single month using PayPal. And suddenly, I transferred $840 (not much more than I normally transfer each month), to the same individual I always send funds to every month, and PayPal flagged the transaction as suspicious. That is odd and poor customer service. Especially since I have a long history of sending similar amounts of money to the same individual, and suddenly they want to flag my transfer even though there is literally nothing unusual about the transfer whatsoever? This doesn't make sense, and of course, since PayPal flagged the transfer they have placed a hold on the funds so that the individual I sent the funds to can't even access these funds. I spent some real time trying to locate a number to call a customer service representative with PayPal and trying to get through to a representative only to be given a standard, generic response, that all transfers may take 5-7 business days. Well, after I pressed the representative for more information it turned out that they had flagged the transfer. PayPal didn't notify me that they flagged the transfer either, they just left me completely in the dark as to why it has now been 7 days since I completed a normal transfer and yet PayPal still hasn't released the funds.
The customer service was not great though the customer service is often poor with PayPal. Recently, a friend told me that she has had issues with her PayPal account as well. And from what I am reading online, other people have had issues with PayPal unnecessarily flagging transfers as well and placing lengthy holds on their funds. With all of this hassle trying to simply complete a routine transfer through PayPal, it's not worth it. I'd rather transfer funds virtually any other way. I ordered checks to avoid using PayPal to transfer funds in the future and if you're looking for a hassle free way to transfer funds, Venmo is a much better alternative. This is what happens when a corporation tries to make too many of their processes automated. An automated system will make errors that a human representative will not make. I guarantee you that PayPal's automated system flagged this transaction I am referring to and if a human representative had viewed the same transaction they would have approved it and a hold would not have been placed on my funds. If you try to send a message to PayPal, you also have to first go through their automated system which is often useless and frustrating to communicate with. PayPal wants to cut corners and save money by replacing human assistants with automated systems and the customer service has greatly declined as a result. So PayPal saves money, at the expense of the consumer.
Paypal has a feature special built for scammers called " family and friends" if you pay there and dont get your product, you can never be refunded. Total Scam. Stay away from Paypal. They always take the scammers side in a dispute.
Been using paypal for more than ten years now, unfortunately they were now invaded by scam sellers. Being a loyal customer do not matter anymore. Its just about money. Bought an item online worth $30usd. Seller delivered a diff item worth $1 usd. Paypal will refund provided i will return the item with tracking no. To do that I need to do undertime from my job, got to pay the bus ticket and sacrifice my time just so i will return that fu... $1 item. This is how the scammer works. Not evryone bothers returning the item for all the expenses ive mentioned. Its not worth the effort. So NEVER again will I use paypal in my purchases.
I registered my account back in 2012 when I was still living in South Africa and moved to Zimbabwe. I was using my account with no problem whilist staying here in Zimbabwe, until recently when they restricted my account. I wanted to link another card FNB card and I couldn't do so because of my IP location. They said I was a scammer. I submitted all the documents which I used in registering my account and the assistant said that it's company policy and that I must open a Zimbabwean account. All my documents are South African, from birth to ID and passport, I don't have Zimbabwean documents. This company is becoming nonsensical by day.
I bought service and used my paypal account to pay, as I received a paypal invoice.
Service was not delivered and was not even half as good as it was promised. It required to violate the rules of various social media and was generally unethical.
After I've raised a dispute paypal decided that the seller has proved delivery of the service and didn't even show me the seller's reply to it.
Basically, paypal cares about who brings them money and protects them. Customers that were lied to are not paypal's concern.
I created my account in high school to pay for a specific ticketed event and, because I was young and didn't have my own bank account, I used my moms name and bank account. After years, I tried to change the name to reflect my own but what said only businesses can change their name which is insane... I have a balance I can't collect, an account I can't use, and PayPal staff that were essentially saying they can't do anything and I'll lose my balance and will have to create an account with a different email. I would never recommend using this application. Use literally anything else
5/26/21 Customer deposit money for the invoice on PayPal. 5/28/21 PayPal said they had to hold it for 48 hours for a review and told me if there was any trouble they would email me. After the 48 hours they emailed and told me the transaction was done it went through. But there was no money in my bank account or my PayPal account. Then they told me it would take 72 hours after I confronted them about it. 5/29/21 Then 5 days... Did they said that the that they don't recognize my bank but I already had transaction with PayPal through that bank already. So if there was trouble contact by Bank. Did the 48-hour review should have said there was a problem. The money is still missing
As with many other buyers here, I was scammed by a Chinese seller that uses a misleading website domain. You buy thinking that the seller is based in your country when actually they are in China. Closed my PayPal account because the dispute resolution only supports the dishonest scammers.
We sold on ebay container/home for USD ******* and shipped from factory in Thailand to San Diego in US. When client received container/home they contacted ebay and report about missing item - client get refund from ebay, PayPal blocked all our money (about 35K)
First they said money blocked for 180 days then again for 45 days. Now I can't log in to my account - it says password wrong but when I click "forgot my password" then says my email address invalid. Looks like they just removed me from the PayPal system. When I call them they asking for 6 number code I should get on PayPal. But how can I get code if I can't log in!? Peace of $#*! PayPal! I think that's why no more PayPal on ebay... Never again in million years
I have the worst luck with Paypal and I hate their company policy. The invoice feature is PURE scam, why? If you send an invoice on services, the paypal will make their fee. They will not release your funds until 21days. IT states send w tracking. Sent w Tracking, the customer received and USPS priority tracking shows delivered in 2days. Paypal promised to release funds within 1 day of proof of delivery. WAIT, there is a catch. Paypal WILL NOT RELEASE FUNDS. Customer do not want to sign up to paypal, bc they dont want paypal acct. PAYPAL will not release your funds after tracking if your customer do not to sign up an acct. PAYPAL resolution is, too bad seller, we hold your money for 21days. THIS IS AN INVOICE SCAM, Bait and switch. I hate paypal, I refuse to use it. Any seller using paypal, please get a regular Merchant Service account. No holds everyone happy.
I ordered a shed, paid thru PayPal. I never got the shed. Never got a Communication from Chinese seller and PayPal said no tracking info available. I opened a dispute. Over a month later PayPal closed the dispute saying the seller provided tracking info... but my PayPal account still shows no tracking info. PayPal refuses to reopen a closed dispute for any reason. This action is taken by a bot, not a human. PayPal will not communicate wth me in any way. If you want to be victimized by a Chinese scammer use PayPal/Ebay. You have been warned.
I used PayPal mostly because it's ubiquitous; most sites accept it for purchasing and it was also convenient for exchanging money with individuals (e.g. Settling bills with roommates). The PayPal checkout experience is typically fine.
I only had to use their charge dispute feature once, without success. They denied my claim with no explanation for a purchase that they processed for a higher amount than shown on the retailer's receipt. Reaching someone in customer service was extremely difficult, and even after I did, they simply had me resubmit my claim and denied it again. I had to put in a dispute with my bank, which ultimately resolved things.
I noticed while searching for a way to contact customer service that PayPal has a setting for which companies have connected access to your account. You are supposed to be able to opt to remove connected sites/retailers, but several of them just didn't work. They claim it's because you have a pending transaction but some of the shops that I couldn't toggle off access for I hadn't made a transaction with in years.
Finally, PayPal started automatically logging me in when I used my personal laptop or phone - no password, certainly no two-factor authentication (which is becoming industry-standard for financial services) - just logging me in without verifying my identity at all. I emailed them about it, asking how they expected to ensure the right user was accessing the account if for example family members share a computer or a roommate accessed my laptop while I was out or my phone was stolen or something. Again, hard to get in touch with customer service, and after waiting on hold, I was told that's just how they do things.
The security risk was the last straw. I closed my account. And honestly, the impact is minimal, as you can checkout through PayPal without an account at most retailers who use the service (though they try to get you to create an account during every checkout).
Paypal sometimes holds Money for no reason you'll be tied for an idiots and unprofessional case that you shouldn't be contacted for
Paypal must knows that some buyer's are liars and thieves, betrayal they want to get the item for Free and money back by acting like a victims for an hacked account or unusual transaction those buyers are misusing paypal and ebay term's and conditions usually buyers are using phone number for login security because they liked their bank accounts and paypal
Used paypal for nearly 6 years for about 50% of my online purchases. I open disputes in only 8 cases (on over 200 purchases) because of online stores that went bankrupt and didn't refund (Anime-island, now having problems with nippon yassan), all ended in my favor. Now (29 April) i received a mail saying "you can no longer use our service" claiming misuse of the protection program (in that case why all cases ended in my favour?) even when the uses where totally justified.
Their support its basically a bot saying that they dont known the precise cause of the ban and cant due anything about it.
According to Wikipedia, in 2021 PayPal had more than 370 million accounts, with a wide variety of services in multiple countries and in 25 different currencies. One might imagine that a company with so wide a scope would have excellent customer service—starting with an "800" number and a bank of well-trained service representatives to handle questions—in order to maintain a great reputation for user support and friendly responsiveness. One would, in this case, be wrong.
A recent attempt to resolve by phone a minor problem (an attempt to pay off an outstanding balance with PayPal that had failed, due to what seems to have been a technical glitch) resulted in half a dozen transfers of call to different departments, as if no customer had ever had similar problems in completing such a transaction before. In the end, one of the reps put the caller on "permanent hold." Fortunately, another customer rep was able to provide a mailing address for a department that MIGHT be able to help resolve the problem. For a company purportedly offering 21st-century solutions, directing a customer back to 19th-century methods is NOT a good sign!
Absolutely disgusting how horrible this company is at transferring money. Friend didn't have cash app so used PayPal. NEEEVER AGAAAIN! 4 weeks. 6 phonecalls and 20$. For 400$. I'll pay 400$ to not deal with PayPal next time
The best thing in the PayPal is;
Some of PayPal's best features are easy for use and simple uses interference, availability across different platforms; and the fact that it's so widely available and very commonly accepted as a payment method.
The bad things in PayPal
My biggest complaint with paypal is the sometimes high transection fees when recieving foreign currency, especially because they are not universal and it can be a bit unpredictable which transection will give you a fees and which won't.
My letter to PayPal... they blame me even though I was totally scammed by a Chinese vendor (drewireless.com). Their BS investigation said I made the purchase because it was made from the same IP address - even after I detailed to them how exactly my info was phished from the vendor:
The IP address WILL be the same because my personal information was Phished on the SAME device. All of the fraud occurred on the same device. I also used the SAME device to report the fraud to you immediately.
In the interim since your last message I did receive a set of earphones from the vendor
I contacted him numerous times for a return since I did NOT order these. He has not responded even once despite me mentioning that the package has not even been opened and that I did not order it.
I also took the package to the local Apple store for an evaluation. Apple has identified the headphones as complete knockoffs, not genuine Beats headphones (the Beats brand is wholly owned by Apple).
So you have a customer who legitimately got phished and had a fraudulent purchase made using his PayPal account
When I immediately reported the fraud to PayPal and tried to deal with the vendor myself, you supported the vendor and condoned his fraudulent activities. You also erroneously interpreted your investigative data and believed that to be true despite alternate interpretations of that data could be made that are actually more valid and truthful.
And now, after being a victim of fraud and fishing, I not only lost out on money, but I now have a fake product that I can't return to the vendor because the vendor has been unresponsive. This is despite him having a clearly written return policy on his fake website.
Congratulations to PayPal for the horrible job you did. I will forever remember this as a consumer and will not use any vendor which solely uses PayPal as the only source of payment.
Stole £13.66 from my account. I changed over to the new ebay user agreement scam so when you sell something eBay handles all the fees and there is no PayPal involvement anymore, yet PayPal still somehow took the money out of my bank account to pay to their partner in crime ebay currently seeking legal advice.
My aged father (in the US) sent some money to me (in the UK) in celebration of his B-day, via PayPal. To my amazement, PayPal wouldn't let me remove it from the account - or rather, they WOULD, but only $300 or so at a time. The reason? They get to charge for a currency changes!
And no, you couldn't make it up.
Answer: I would not recommend PayPal to anyone for anything they're a joke of a business
Answer: Paypal will NOT be on your side if the item is not as described. I bought an item that was totally wrong, advertised as "handmade, hand quilted, made of brushed Kona cotton", picture was beautiful with wonderful quilting and vibrant colors and I was buying from a company from Texas. I received an item from Texas, not handmade, not hand quilted, not vibrant colors, not brushed cotton and it was just a picture printed on cheap polyester/nylon fabric. Hideous. I paid $99.90. Company first offered to refund $30, nope, still way too expensive for a cheap quilt that I wouldn't even use for my pets. Then said if I return the "quilt" to China at my expense they would refund the money. Cost to return? $70. Paypal agreed with this company, denied my claim and I'm sitting here with something I would feel cheated if I paid $10. Paypal is not the company it once was. Use your credit card as that company will have your back. Looking to see what a better option is than Paypal. 20 year customer and I'm done. I do not think anyone actually reads our messages to Paypal.
Answer: They have become a money laundry scamming allowing company. Stay away at any cost.
Answer: USPS delievered it to the wrong address my pacakge was supposed to be delievered too 35710 Bay Morgan Ln, Fallbrook, CA 92028 when USPS delivered it to an address simillar to this one 12354 Alcatal Street (do not know the exact address since they did not email me, but you can call USPS and ask, and that is how I found out) Fallbrook, CA 92028, right city and zip code, far away address.
Answer: I'm thinking someone has to work there, if you send messages you will get a canned reply, I get the same response from 10 messages, basically "suck it up buttercup, you have just been played" but if you try to actually talk to a person good luck.
Answer: They dont. They wait for you to forget it. You get money back if you fill in a form after 180 days.
Answer: Do never send money to PayPal. That money is lost. This company has become a Giants money laundry company.
Answer: No there is not. PayPal protects scammers. Be sure to never use them.
Answer: It doesn't matter if you report them or not PayPal won't do nothing about it they continued to let the scammers operate on their site and do not protect consumers
Answer: SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THAT LOT, THEY CLAIM TO REFUND AMOUNTS PAID FOR ITEMS THAT DO NOT ARRIVE THATS "BS" I HAVE HAD 3 SUCH CLAIMS FROM 14 TRANSACTIONS AND HAVE NEVER GOT A REFUND DESPITE THEIR CLAIMS, THEY ARE CROOKS, FULL STOP, KEEP WELL CLEAR OF THEM.
