I've been working there since 2012. I have over 30 projects and total rate 4.84 out of 5.
So imagine my surprise when they told me they will suspend my account due to poor performance and because I have open project on which I don't work. I think their approach is very wrong- why should they blame the freelancer for projects which client never bother to close? I wrote all of my contractors and asked them to close... no one respond and it's reasonable because the projects was back in 2012 and 2013... How should I force people to come back to that site and do this and that?
Also, this internal rating as they told me... Most of my projects are done when there was no such thing. Now I have very low rate of people recommended me. Just because this option didn't exist in the past.
Anyway, I am extremely disappointed of this platform and the support attitude. I seriously think to quit my working there. Just pity for the years spent hoping to establish a career there...
You will pay for and Indian job, and half of the time they will not do the job and run with the Money. If you open a case with PayPal PayPal will not refund you
Don't used o desk is not a good place to work
Odesk may be better than most freelancer sites if you don't mind bidding on jobs that pay less than $1.00 an hour which seems to be a high percentage of available posted job offers.
Now I just check the available jobs for entertainment purposes.
The freelancing sites sites have become a haven for abusers and scammers.
Yes!
I can say that oDesk is the best place for talent and I met some wonderful clients who make my freelance journey smooth and they not only trust me but also build me as I am today. I always try to give my best for them and learn a lot of things from oDesk.
It is just my best teacher, friend and influencer to go ahead and I get my all inspiration of personal development from oDesk. I don't stay with oDesk just for the money but for some interesting idea's and make myself always seeking for the best things ever.
I met some best clients via oDesk who open my eyes and give me a new world of learning.
Thanks oDesk!
Odesk.com is an online marketplace for buyers and providers for the services. Odesk provides an extensive online work environment where buyers and providers can build relationships based on trust and virtual office environment. Buyers can see providers actually working on their projects, receive reports and handle tasks more effeciently. While providers can be assured of payments, fraud prevention and dispute resolution in an efficient manner. Odesk also provides tests where providers can prove their skills in certain categories to maximize their potential to get hired for the jobs.
I was a little jaded joining Odesk after a few really hideous experiences working through another online employment company. What a surprise - I have met some of the best clients and never had a negative experience.
Like another reviewer mentioned, they have checks and balances in place to protect both employers and online workers and I've never had an issue getting paid.
I would highly recommend this site.
I'm amused by another reviewer who wrote, 'Beware of coders that insist on hourly work. It is mostly a scam that is easily manipulated.' I guess he isn't among the legion of oDesk users who will only hire contractors with 100 oDesk hours. My 85 hours at $22/hour ought to count more than somebody with 100 hours at $2/hour, but hey, what do I know? I didn't think contractors could insist on hourly pay -- it's those who do the hiring that decide how payment is made.
Worst support. Even though you have a verified account and have spent 10,000$ and 100's of good rating on your employers profile they ask for ID verification. Why the hell should i put my real name and address? I work in a MNC company and use odesk for my personal website needed. How can i reveal my identity?
Never use their services
They accepted a job, I interviewed the guy over Skype. After 10 days, 4 days before deadline, nobody responds :)) ) They hold onto my money for two weeks and simply refunded. I contacted the customer service the guy said do not trust freelancers, it is not oDesk responsibility! Bunch of losers, I wish I could take them to the court.
I ordered a job on this website, freelancer took 50% and disappeared. When i applied to odesk help center, they told me that they are not responsible for my money and the only thing they can do is just contacting freelancer but they cannot guarantee anything.
Here is the answer i received from odesk:
"Though oDesk does not offer mediation or arbitration services and there is no guarantee that you will be paid back"
I don't suggest using this website.
Do not give a $#*! to this freelancing website. Contact me for more details before starting your work or hiring someone out there.
This website is 10/10 bad because it has zero tolerance policy even if your client is wrong and you are right, if your client comes after 100 days and as you to send his money back, You would have to fund him back otherwise you lost your account.
Odesk is a huge waste of time. They froze my account because I photo shopped my profile picture to take out the person who was standing next to me. They don't re-start your account right away - customer support is terrible. Jobs are very hard to get because most clients are looking for people who have good skills and are willing to do the work for 2 bucks! There are also a lot of sleazy jobs, like altering legal documents. Don't waste your time.
I’ve gotten hired for several jobs on ODesk as an article writer, and I’m generally happy with the site. But it freezes me in some options, I prefer SEOClerks.com over odesk or any other freelancing site.
ODesk's support system SUCKS. A year ago, I had my legal name changed after my marriage and they created hell for me. They did not update my legal name and simply approved my profile. Six months later, all of a sudden, they decide to block my bank account, stating it did not comply with my legal name. I've spoken to 5 different agents and all lead me to a buggy link that does NOTHING. I am considering to SUE them, big time! I have been using the platform since 2011 and this is a very pathetic experience for me. Very disappointed! Their platform is extremely buggy and their agents are nothing less than robots. You cannot get a problem solved from them.
I started to create an account because a friend of mine's company gets some of their work done through oDesk. I was suspended after not completing my account and I could not get it reactivated after 5 different contacts with them and had my problem linked to other peoples problems via ticket numbers. What a bunch of goons.
Odeskwork.com website is a scam, i'm a freelancer i worked there for over a month and they didn't pay me my earnings even thou i applied to withdraw them, and send them multiple emails to verify whats the issue, they never reply to me, and then they closed my account, stealing over 800$ from my earnings.
I managed to get back some via a paypal dispute, but still they took the majority.
I have no faith on website located in india, they are scams.
AN ADVICE to ALL FREELANCERS and EMPLOYERS don't use the website.
IT'S A SCAM... BE AWARE.
Although their Customer Service is available 24/7, their "Investigation process/procedures" are very poor. They need to double their efforts in resolving resolutions.
Supposedly, the website should've had a great online reputation. But if they continue this kind of process, this might be the end for their good online reputation.
This company should closed its doors for hiring people who scam others out of their hard-earned money! The 'statistician' I hired, Augustine Cassis Obeng Boateng, was horrible!
STAY AWAY FROM HIM AND THIS COMPANY!
I am professional web programmer with over several years experience and I have established career at freelancer.com with over 70 excellent reviews and I had nightmare working on odesk. First I spent too much time applying for jobs and explaining my expertise, I hardly got a reply, obviously because of the huge amount of spam bids with as low as $1 hourly rate or may be less.
And after getting hired on 3 jobs, it turned all of them got ended with a customer canceled the job with partial payment because he does not need the job anyway, other paid after many requests and waiting for 2 weeks, last one took the job and ran away without paying a single dim.
Pretty bad experience on two occasions. The first one was on their customer service quality where you get answers into void! Totally unrelated to your issues.
Then the worse came: a freelance returned the fees as he couldn't fulfill the task. BUT Odesk kept the amount for a week and made several false promises to return the money. All documented.
Answer: I am not familiar with vendor but I strongly advise you not to work within the platform of odesk. Their work lacks transparency and credibility. It is much easier to build your own business outside of the odesk platform. This way you also will gain bigger clients and make much more money and most importantly you dont waste your time talking to kids on odesk who have no idea what they are doing at that place which in my opinion is really sad.
oDesk has a rating of 1.8 stars from 140 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with oDesk most frequently mention and customer service. oDesk ranks 103rd among Freelancing sites.
