Do not use Nationwide Hire UK ever!
This is the first time I have ever given a bad review like this!
I organised the car hire weeks before my trip and decided to pay extra to hire a car from them specifically to take advantage of the home delivery of the car, as I live in a rural village. The day before the hire was due to start they contacted me to say that they didn't have a car for me due to unforeseen circumstances, but that I could pay extra to have a car delivered to my home from a local rental company, or I could go myself to pick up the car at this company (30 minutes drive away). I said that they had contracted to bring a car to me and they should pay any additional costs to do this, not me! They refused. All of this took a few calls back and forth and time out of my working day. As they refused to absorb the extra cost, passing it on to me I then told them I wanted to cancel the hire and would hire a car myself from the local firm 30 mins away. They let me arrange this and then phoned back to say they were refusing to let me cancel! So I now had two cars booked both of which I had to pay for. Fortunately the local car hire were decent and professional and let me cancel the 2nd car, The purpose nehind the car hire was to attend a friends funeral, and having to go to pick upm the car rather than get one delivered meant arriving late for the service (which Nationwide Hire were aware of).
Needless to say they have never responded at all over the last 5 months since my complaint and request for some compensation for the whole very unpleasant experience.
Absolute charlatans & liars. Hired a Luton box van for a house move. Started badly in that they were late, couldn't get it on my drive and I had to take the driver to the train station as he was stranded.
Turned out tyres were low on air (dark at drop off) & had several slow punctures, when one blew stranding me on the m6 they didn't pickup the phone or reply to messages. Have to phone 3 times before pick up to get through, they were late to pick up and then held on to my deposit for 7 weeks lying about what they were doing and have now withheld over £200 for a tyre which is fair wear and tear. I will be suing.
DO NOT USE THEM!
They are cheap and that's what would make them appealing. But they have randomly taken payments out of my account "by mistake", admitted to it being an admin error, but haven't returned them.
They also say they have 4 working days to collect the van and this means that you're liable for any damages, even though you're not insured beyond your hire commitment.
Have a look through some other reviews as I'm sure others have had the same experience.
Don't get fooled by the cheap price, I would consider this company to be probably the most dishonest company around.
Use another rental company! They do not send over delivery condition reports OR collection condition reports unless specifically asked for AFTER the event.
They will not issue refunds for days not used if an early collection is requested. If the hire period is extended they automatically take additional charges from the original payment method without permission.
We have now been charged £1200 for a minor scratch to the body of the Luton van and a minor dent to the end of the exhaust pipe!
All in all a shoddy outfit that I will not be using again.
Highly unprofessional customer service who while has taken my "booking" has indicated that he won't be able to "confirm" the van. Furthermore, as part of the booking he has charged my credit card, and will charge a cancellation fee of £ 42. Because they cannot do they work correct. The next day i hired from another company without any issues. This company is a SCAM. DONT USE THEM.
Twice we have been sold van (7.5T) hire from Nationwide in which they claim to be able to deliver a vehicle and once they have taken our money they then informed us that it was not possible to deliver and we would have to collect it from a far away location (1.5 hrs away) for no discount. The person who takes your money is excellent, the customer service agents who deal with the dispute are dreadful. Both times Nationwide's markup on the local garage who hired the vehicle was in excess of 100%. The second time we did not know we were dealing with Nationwide initally as they market under more than one name. Would never touch them again.
The day before my hire was due to commence, I was called by NationwideHireUK to say that my van had broken down but that they could provide me with a smaller van. I was also promised a refund for the price delta between the big Vs smaller van hire. Moving to a smaller van was a big issue for me, but I had no choice but to accept given the short notice.
But I never received the refund. I have tried to call them numerous times & nobody will help me. I raised a formal complaint case on their web site & have had no response whatsoever from that.
They don't care, & as far as I can tell, have no intention of giving me the refund they promised. It is very frustrating & unjust - that's why I've taken the time to write this review.
I beg you do not use nationwide hire, they will tell you everything is fine the done and the time it due they phone you and say that they do not have one and charge you extra £250, more for there fault because they have to use someone else avoid at all cost
I got a quote from their website but wanted to be sure it was right so spoke to one of their operator who took the payment. Following day I receive an email saying that to return it to where I wanted it would cost an extra £400. Trying to reson with them, since I was moving in 3 days, I even offered to return ot where itd be delivered, all I asked was to extend the hire 3 more hours. They refused and quite abruptly thw choice was you either pay or get e refund. Awful customer service, their customer service manager is useless. Asked to be called back by her and she never did.
Horrendous customer service. Tried to put in a complaint about a rude staff emeber only to be told i cant complin as the staff emeber IS the customer service manager so they wont raise my complaint or give an alternative contact. They replied to emails with emojis and the rudest replies ive ever seen from a so called professional company. Reported to trading stamdards only giving 1 star as cant give 0

This is the experience I had last week,
A guy turns up an hour late in an extremely dirty van hasn't been washed in ages obviously this is part of the scam because it's harder to see scratches.
Next thing is I am asking for paperwork he tells me there's loads of paperwork which is also a Lie!
He walks round the vehicle takes a couple of pictures hands me he's rubbish little android phone to sign I ask him where the paperwork is he says you will receive an email after you have signed it.
The next day a couple of guys turn up about three hours late to collect the vehicle.
The guy walks around takes a couple of pictures well I'm busy doing something else,
He then has me hes Android phone to sign that I am happy I looked at everything on the phone there was nothing about damage or anything as soon as I sign with my finger he drives off very quickly then I receive an email to say there has been additional damaged picked up that was already on the vehicle!
So not only are the guys picking up and dropping the vehicle off liars and cheats probably on extra commission for doing this kind of Malarkey.
Done now trying to get me to pay for the damage of the vehicle side of stolen my £250 deposit and are now trying it on I'm willing to take legal action and go all the way I've got nothing to lose anymore.
Please read the reviews don't listen to the fake reviews this company is shady as hell!
Possibly the worst vehicle hire…
Possibly the worst vehicle hire experience in 30 years of hiring. The booking process was smooth & great customer service from all we dealt with but that's where it ended. The van was 3 hours late being delivered & required multiple calls to find out what was going on. Once delivered it had a tank gauge showing empty, no SatNav (as booked & paid for), the hand brake alarm sounded intermittently throughout driving & a hole in the roof meant that much of our cargo was wet & some was damaged beyond further use. We wrote four times to Nationwide Hire asking them to contact us to discuss our complaint but they have not responded in over a month & a half. We are now contacting Trading Standards as the Company seems unwilling to answer our complaint. We would not hire from them again, nor recommend them, based mainly on their lack of after sales service & no response to our correspondence.
DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!
I hired a mini bus which was delivered late and in a filthy condition inside and out. I paid £35 to have it cleaned before I could use it. The bus had a faulty handbrake, 2 seats in the rear were not fixed at all, the heater fan speed didn't work properly, it looked and smelled like a building site crew bus.
They do not reply to any communication after you have paid.
AVOID THIS COMPANY
I hired a van. All started well with it delivered on time, the van was ok, but not great. The issue comes with the collection. I have been waiting two weeks for the van to be collected. No date for when it will be collected despite calling them twice.
They hide behind their broker status and state the contract is with the hire company. Which in this case is Budget Putney. However, if you do a Director search you will find the directors of Nationwide hire Joseph Shukri CORY and Edward Shukri Joseph CORY are also directors of Budget Putney (BOUTAGYS HOLDINGS LTD).
Avoid.
You will not get 100% customer satisfaction like the website promises. If you have an issue with the company's mistakes then you will be met with extreme sarcasm. I've come forward with my concerns about the company's mistakes and not 1 but 3 employees took offence to my complaint and were sarcastic and offensive. I was asked if I had mental health problems and that if I think money was stolen then I should call the police. Very unprofessional and I'm in complete shock from the way I've been spoken to when coming forward with my complaints.
The van was not picked up at the arranged time and day. It should have been collected on the day that I was still at my old address but they came 4 days later and they left the van in the parking spot of the new tennent who had a van of his own to unload. The new tenants van hire company had to move my van hire company's van and he told me to complain about this because it is very unprofessional. I've been charged a substantial amount that was taken from my bank without my knowledge and it's been put down as a van extension hire period.
Do not use this vehicle hire company… and if you do…. Make sure you write all about it when they screw you over.
Steer clear of this company. They don't deserve one star. They let me down hours before the completion of a house sale/self move and took nearly £400 from my bank account. 6 days later i still haven't had a refund. I have contacted Trading standards to report them.
My daughter has booked this company' to supply a vehicle so they can move into their new home at the end of the month! The money has left her account & as of yet no confirmation has been sent- needless to say she is now distraught as unsure whether or not a vehicle will actually turn up! Tried ringing numerous times & no one answers the phone! This is money she can potentially ill afford to lose as has just bought first house! Also a higher amount was taken from account than was agreed!
Moving is a stressful enough time as it is without this shambles!
And after reading all the reviews it doesn't leave us with much confidence that they will deliver the goods!
Hang your heads in shame if you have taken hard earned money from a young family!

My Dad ordered us a van for our house move as I was massively stressing out as we were let down from another company in Birmingham. Thankfully nationwide said yes, we can help! My dad later called up to book it and we got same day delivery of a Luton Van. Just make sure you give a share code for your licence now so they can do a check online. Very happy with the service received. The van was a new model and was easier to use than I thought. Only thing was we did get a fuel charge after the hire but that's my fault for not filling it back up. I will be using this company again as they were really helpful and the service was really good.
Van was eventually delivered 4.5 hours after the initially agreed time. This meant delaying my 400 mile planned journey until the next day. Van had a number of damaged areas including important lighting that could no longer function and broken radio which meant no traffic reports being available. Cab and load area were filthy, clearly no cleaning had been done between hires, very concerning from a COVID-19 perspective. What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of support from the customer support desks of both Nationwide Hire UK and the van supplier Enterprise. No email or call back concerning the above issues.
We hire from Nationwide once a month they always give us a good deal.
We insure the van as we have our own fleet policy so even better on price.
Delivery is excellent saves so much time.
